Oklahoma OT Kenyon Frison Suspended Indefinitely

Bob Stoops announced Monday afternoon that redshirt freshman offensive tackle Kenyon Frison has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules. Stoops did not offer any specifics as to what the violation was in reference to, simply that Frison has not been with the team for a couple weeks and that he will not take part in fall camp.

Certainly not good news for either what many believed to be an very talented player and/or a program already dealing with inexperience and depth issues at the offensive tackle position.

Damnit! Hate this time of year…

  • Zack says:

    Well damn

    • Boom says:

      double damn

      • Zack says:

Hopefully it’s just a one season deal and he can bounce back. Brown looks good though. Saw a picture of him and Daniel brooks and he’s like 3 times bigger than brooks.

        • JR says:

That was Rodney Anderson which makes it that much more impressive!

        • Boom says:

With you. It’s not like I had him penciled in as starter but it would’ve been great to see him get quality reps in practice and during the year. The bummer is, if he does come back, he still doesn’t have any D1 experience.

He walked right by me on way to dorms before Tenn game last year. Blew me away because he was actually more impressive than the photo of him in office doorway last year. Looked so freakishly big amongst the crowd too, head way above it all.
Hope he plays like he looks.

One would think that the message would get through to these kids. BUT, SIF

  • Nate Broadus says:

Why can’t we ever have nice things?

  • Barry Duren says:

    Boo.

  • Randy says:

Well we need Bolles more than ever now.. Or at least another JC OT..

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

So, he hasn’t been around for a couple of weeks, not participating in fall camp & nobody knew??

    • Slim Sooner says:

Yeah, surely somebody had to have noticed he was missing. This worries me when young men squander their opportunities by making unwise decisions, assuming that’s what had to have happened here. Life Lesson: You will never regret doing the RIGHT thing.

  • Will Narramore says:

Are Dru Samia and Quinn Mettermier playing OT? If so are the OTs on the team Samia(Fr.) Mettermier(Juco Soph) Evans (Fr) Farniok (Sr.) St John (Sr) Brown(Fr). If so thats a lot of young dudes unless I forgot anyone

  • Daryl says:

JY I would love to hear your thoughts on the breakdown of our depth and where we go from here at OT. How shallow do you feel we really are at OT.

  • Jason Vos says:

Glad we got the JUCO OT Mettenmeier

  • Travis Coyle says:

Really?? He has only been there 2 months. Lol

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Well, that explains the reports of Natasiti (correct spelling?)
    at RT.

    • KJ1123 says:

      yep –

      lol Its Kasitati…close

    • j l says:

So would man the other guard spot, ford?

      • KJ1123 says:

Nila would be in as a rotational player at OT. Main position will still be guard. The hope is one of the new guys will step up at tacke and provide some relief.

        • j l says:

Even if its only rotational, someone has to take his spot at guard. Wondering if its someone like alvarez or dalton, or one of the freshman dont redshirt.

  • Boom says:

I’m guessing at this point so my hope is this won’t be taken wrong and I get a bunch of hate posts.
In the spring, K mentioned there were 10 players who got in some type of trouble. I’m assuming pot or something like that. He may have been a double offender.

    • Bob Edwards says:

Not hate. I just don’t see the point in speculating. As fans, all we need to know is that he is not going to be part of the team. We don’t need to know how or why he got in trouble. If it’s publicly reported then reporting it is OK, but otherwise people are just making stuff up that they know nothing about. Stuff that could hurt the young man in the future. I would like to see him get his act together. Having a bunch of speculation about what he did wrong can’t help him, but it can hurt him since speculation becomes fact on the Internet once it has been repeated enough times.

  • Ed Cotter says:

    Well, that sucks!

  • Sooner 4Ever says:

Wow, this really sucks… both from a depth perspective now and talent perspective long-term.

I read elsewhere a report from a poster who spoke directly to Merv Johnson about the OT position. This poster claimed that Merv Johnson stated unequivocally that before he was finished, Frison could be the most talented tackle OU has had in 15 years. That is high praise considering the source is Coach Merv (one of the great O-Line coaches ever) and the quality of tackles we’ve produced over that time span… Jamal Brown, Trent Williams, Phil Loadholt, Lane Johnson and Davin Joseph… just to name a few.

    • hOUligan says:

Hope and pray he gets it together whether he ever wears crimson and cream or not. You don’t want to let opportunities like he has, with that kind of talent, playing at OU for a coach like Coach B, get away from you.

  • Walter Sobcek says:

Hopefully the young man will serve his suspension, learn his lesson, and return to the team – if not later this season, then next spring.

  • Cush Creekmont says:

Huh…Well, I guess we have a Boom and a Bummer. I hope it works out, but “not with the team for a couple of weeks” and “will not take part in fall camp” sounds a lot like MIA.

  • Thegunnfather says:

Come on man!! Lot of good momentum going and then this. Hope things work out for him whatever the issue might. Learning opportunity.

  • Rick says:

What is the rule on a player that has been suspended, and possibly the rest of the year, who has already red shirted, as in this case? How does that affect the player’s eligibility?

    • Bob Edwards says:

You have five years to use four years worth of eligibility. When you first enroll your clock starts ticking and you have five years in which to play, but you can’t play more than four years. So if he sits out a year he loses that year of eligibility since he has already redshirted.

There are medical, religious, and military exceptions. There is not one for misbehavior.

  • Brad Warren says:

Attrition sucks when it’s your team. But it happens at every program. Hope he can get things ironed out.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

Apparently back on Aug. 1st, Frison tweeted something to the effect… “It’s completely & totally my fault & I will make up for it..” this was reported by Chris Plank on Tulsa radio just a few minutes ago… FWIW..

  • SoonerLove says:

No surprise. This is why depth is so important. OU, along with most other teams, are always going to have at least 1 or more players get suspended or injured each year. Guys have to step up. However, that’s been an ongoing issue in past seasons. The drop off from the starters to the back-ups have been night and day for the most part. Hopefully the kid gets back on the team, but until then the guy or guys behind him need to step up to the plate.
