During his usual Monday meeting with the media, Bob Stoops provided an update as to the status of injured OU linebackers Jordan Evans and Devante Bond. As you may recall, Bond sat out last week’s game against Kansas State with an ankle injury while Evans left the game in the third quarter with what appeared to be a knee injury.
Jordan Evans is questionable for Saturday, will know more later in the week.

Stoops specified Evans’ issue is with the muscle behind his knee and NOT ligament related, which is certainly a relief for both player and OU fans alike. It will likely just be a matter of how quickly Evans can stretch that muscle back out (in Stoops’ words) with regards to how much time he may possibly miss.
Of course if Evans can’t go on Saturday, the Sooners have the benefit of an experienced player behind him in Frank Shannon.
The news was slightly more encouraging regarding Bond who, according to Stoops, was actually quite close to playing last week but didn’t quite feel that ankle would hold up.
Devante Bond should be back Saturday. He was "really close" for K-State.

However, as evidenced above, the expectation is that Bond will be back on the field for OU’s home contest this coming Saturday against Texas Tech.

FIRST!!!
In the Fantasy Football world Questionable means he’s playing!! We’re good!
In Bob Stoop language Questionable means plan the funeral.
so Bond did not have to endure a below the knee amputation……THAT is indeed good news !!
Above the knee amputations take a lot of fun out of life.
They forgot to mention on the injury report that Techsa’s image is still DOUBTFUL after refusing to release a walk-on two years ago. Quite the nagging injury.
Good thing we have Frank. Always a fan of his game.
me too he was great in 2013
No doubt. It’s nice to have a backup that could start for a large portion of D1 teams.
Let JE rest if at all possible. Will need him close to 100% down the stretch
Same for bond if you ask me. Will be tough without 2 starting LBs but Shannon has experience and lindley has played well although against tech we may only play 3 LB mostly
Yeah probably play a lot of 6 DB sets this week anyway
Hopefully no Byrd, but some time for Taylor or Austin.
Or Will Johnson he really impressed me
Still think PJ needs some reps too
I forgot about pj, he of course needs reps. Tech does have smaller receivers so hopefully if PJ goes in the game, they don’t give him a mismatch the way the did with Tulsa.
I was surprised a bit to see both McKinney and Sunderland but not haughton. I’ll tell you though, those 2 look like football players. Hasn’t worked out great for Byrd so far (looking the part) but it would be great if all of them turn into stud safeties.
Byrd doesn’t seem to have the agility to play in the B12
Would not be surprised to see some of the 2-4-5 alignment either. They can move Striker into coverage if they want 6 in the backfield.
2-4-6 if they can get away with it. 😉
It’s the new 4-4-4
What are your thoughts of the 2-4-5 against texas. You might have mentioned it, but I didn’t see it.
The 2-4-5 would make sense against TT, especially if Bond is back. But if Mikey gets into the Margaritas again like he did in Dallas, we might see a 5-4-2 against the TT pass happy spread
HaHaHaHa!!! Good one … “get into the Margaritas” …. actually, it’ll be a 4-2-5, but I totally get your point!!!!
Yep we are on the same page. The look was a 4-2-5, but personnel wise it was a 2-4-5 since amazingly mikey decided to go with only 2 DL against texass, a run team that cannot pass. This schematic disaster was even more bizarre when you consider that your best all around LB Bond did not play. Even more confusing when your consider that the 2-4-5 would have been great earlier in the year v. spread/pass when all we heard about was the dilemma of not being able to get your 2 best pass rushers on the field, Bond & Striker. Obviously you can do that when both are healthy in the 2-4-5 and hopefully we will see that v. TT, TCU, Baylor
I think Mike is a scotch man….the kind that makes you die penniless. 🙂
Just pressure.
I’ve been impressed with Lindley. He’s played pretty well and he has great size.
He has had a couple of big hits. I have been impressed with him too.
Holding up well in the run game playing as a DE basically.
Im thinking he’s going to be involved in some “tip drills” this week.
But horrible hands 😉
The difference between a LB and a RB, FB, or TE is often the hands.
He’s a big LB who had to make an adjustment to the ball. I thought it was a humorous play. Who was it in the secondary that dropped the one that hit him in the numbers?
Prentice. That play might haunt his dreams for a week or two.
Lindley is a bad pass rusher, but is a solid player
That’s what my girlfriend tells me …
I think Bond is the more important piece of the puzzle. Lindley’s been okay, but Bond is a special player, a true difference-maker. I prefer Evans, but I think Shannon could spell him okay.
Yes, Jordan Esco will be needed.
JE is THE MAN … too bad he’s not on our O-Line!!! 🙂
We might need JE this week. I think hes probably better in coverage than Shannon and against Tech we’ll need all the cover guys we can get.
Methinks Evans will sit this weekend out and Shannon will put better numbers down. Questionable is Stoopspeak for an amputation
KU game will be a 2 or 230 start. Will be announced this weekend. Either on Fox or FoxSports 1. Good, I don’t have to get up early to be at the hole in the ground known as Lawrence, KS!
Does Kansas still have a football team or are we playing the basketball team? They would probably have a better chance in the football game.
They’re still planning a tackle football game, but will be using a basketball.
LOL! Good one Walter!
I hope they have something of a football team as I am going to that game. If not, that will be some wasted $$$ on tickets, gas, food, motel, etc. LOL
I think Bond will be foaming at the mouth to get after a pass-happy offense. He needs to be back on the field to get back up to speed for offenses like TCU and Baylor that are suddenly not so far away.
I love his intensity, as long as he keeps contain.
This is the DB group I would like to see against TT.
CB – Zack Sanchez
FS – Stephen Parker
SS – S. Parker
NB – Will Johnson (backed up by Stephen P.)
CB – Jordan Thomas
By my count that is six really solid cover guys (if you count Parker three times).
How many positions can Parker play at the same time?
75% of the world is covered by water. The rest by Steven Parker
I guess I haven’t seen Water. Is he a JUCO transfer, or a 2016 prospect? Sounds like a great player!
Mike can’t figure out how to use his talent yet
He’s so talented it just drips off of him!!
Yes.
I think that Ahmad Thomas has performed very well this year.
How many redshirts were pulled off on Saturday? Wasn’t McKinney going to redshirt? If so why throw him out there now?
I think he saw some time earlier in the season. Pretty sure his redshirt was already burned.
McKinney, Overton were the new ones I saw (there was a rumor Mann played but I did not see him). Sunderland, Haughton were already on special teams.
Per participation report Mann did not play. McKinney, Overton, Sunderland and Haughton yes.

McKinney and Overton both played against Akron.
Our staff is selling that Freshmen can come in and play. It is also true that we need depth in the secondary. When we have games like this and a freshmen is physically ready to help you need to get them in so they can get reps.
None.

(AP) – The 17th-ranked Sooners (5-1, 2-1 Big 12) lead the conference in scoring defense, total defense, pass defense and interceptions, and are second in sacks in league play. Overall, Oklahoma ranks ninth nationally in pass defense. Coach Bob Stoops likes what he’s seeing. [So sick OU fans still wanna give Mike and Bob the Ax.]
So unfortunate those perspectives exist with any respect for the respective perspective. In other words, grade A post.
They’ve played three conference teams that aren’t any good at throwing the ball. WVU, Texas (doesn’t throw), and KSU (no QB).
This is true. But be freaking honest. How did Baylor’s D or TCU D do in comparison to like opponents? TCU better v Texas, worse v K St.
Doesn’t matter how TCU or Baylor did against those teams as they’re not us. Those teams aren’t the passing heavyweights in conference right now. I think you all know that.
Our defense got shredded against Tulsa no? Best passing team we’ve faced so far. Well the Tulsa game doesn’t factor in to conference rankings stats so that’s why we’re where we are in those stats. My point is legitimate.
Is your post a way to discount the stats?
Or
Are you saying that OU played defense against those teams like we expect?
Wow!
What will it take to make you happy?
A few cheesy tots is a good start
Bacon wrapped.
Now we’re talking
I’m just saying we haven’t played the teams that can really sling it people, and that’s what the stats show. Relax.
You are exactly right. Don’t worry about the insults. Some of us seek the truth and can live with it.
I ain’t happy, for an entirely different reason.
My high school QB’s season is done.
Feel for the kid.
While the team’s season may well be effected, all anyone is thinking about is what a tough hand he has been dealt.
Poor kid – hope he’ll be able to make lemonade out of the situation…
does he have a D-1 scholarship locked in ?
Wow, EaxTex. I’m sorry about that. I hope his dreams don’t end here. I’ll keep praying for him. I hope the team use his fall as their battle cry and play hard because of him.
Tough break for the young man.
The coaches and players will have to suck it up and rally around to keep their goals intact.
The ironic part of this injury is the local paper had written a really nice piece about the kid the day of the game(scroll down and click skip survey for the article).

EasTex, thanks for sharing. What a great story. It’s amazing what you can see in defeat. Kid keeps getting up. I can work with that. I’ll take that all day.
I don’t have any doubts he’ll get up again. I hope he gets his opportunity to continue his football career.
Just so you know, I think I’ll be thinking about Marshall football for the rest of my life.
Ha!
Once a Mav, always a Mav.
When they play well against the real passing teams in our league that have real QBs and real WRs which we haven’t played yet. I’m gonna go ahead and throw that Tulsa game out there for ya here.
So just shut up until we play one of ur favorite big 12 teams, then come back and say I told u so. You’ve made ur point. U hate mikey. Got it bro. Now pick something else to whine about.
Ugh. Smdh….
the same type of results against OSU, Baylor, TT, TCU—–if OU is #1 in those league categories at the end of the season, THEN the ‘sunshine pumpers’ can brag about the job the coaches / players did….proof is in the performance……………
TCU has played two of those teams and OSU has played three
What’s that got to do with anything? TCU played with 1 returning starter on defense due to injuries. The Tulsa game isn’t reflected in those stats either. We got shredded by a Tulsa team that hasn’t done anything since.
Keep it in perspective. Stats can still not tell the whole picture, we are getting ready to find out where we are.
OH—-so true.
No, that will be a month from now. We have TTech, Kansas and Iowa State if I’m not mistaken. Those teams, aside from tech, should pad our defensive stats if we bring our A game to each. I think we can do very well against Tech myself.

Oh, yeah. Top thirteen. Let me know when he cuts it to top twelve.
LOL!!! Thought the same thing
I’m feeling warm about top ten. 🙂
At 6’2″ and a sub 4.4 I’m glad we are still in the conversation with him.
Oh, I’m glad too. Just chuckling that the kid put out a top thirteen. I think these tweets are more just a way to brag about all the big time schools that are recruiting them. They haven’t really narrowed the field much. May not be the case with this kid, but then what is the purpose of a top thirteen?
