Before this thing gets started, just wanted to say that both the Men’s and Women’s BB teams looked really good this past week. I got to watch them on FSSW and really like the chemistries of both teams. Lot of depth and kids that seem to really playing together.
What were their exhibition game results?
OU spanked Washburn by 50, I think. Bob Chipman, Washburn’s coach, was the basketball camp I always went to. He is a pretty good coach. Of course he played at KSU with Lon Kruger.
Washburn was no slouch. They have some pretty good players and a good system. OU just looked that good.
Girls 111-73, Men 112-62, I think
going to be fun to watch them both this year
I also really, really like the 4 quarters for the girls game now. 5 fouls in each qtr, then bonus. No 1and1’s in womens BB any longer. Would like to see the men’s game go to 4 quarters now. Speeds up the game.

If the offense is gonna score on single play drives, they have to continue to move the ball, or the defense is gonna get worn out. We should be able to turn things around after a dismal offensive performance in the second quarter, but it won’t be easy with a potentially tired D.
As predicted, ISU has a decent defense and knows how to play. Let’s hope the amount of time the D has had to be on the field doesn’t start making their running back look good in the 4th quarter.
Meantime, kudos to the D for stop after stop, under significant duress.
I imagine we start pounding Perine and Mixon in the 2nd half. That should give the D a breather.
Maybe, but ISU has dialed up some very effective run blitzes, after the first quarter that made it pretty difficult.

This year there isnt anything special about our special teams.
I’ve watched ISU play two games this year. TCU and Tech. They played them tough in the first half, but fell apart after halftime. I am hoping that is what happens here.
I think we scored too quickly and the players felt like the game was in the bag. The problem was, Isu continued to play ball. Go to half, refocus, and come back out and win this convincingly! Boomer!

Love it we have the right mix of upper classmen and younger ones. Kruger has done a great job coaching and recruiting!
I’m a huge Kruger fan. I loved him when he was at KSU. I thought he was underrated. I was excited when OU hired him.
I don’t think anyone thought the game was in the bag. I think ISU made some quality adjustments and we helped them with a “fumble.” (Looked like he was down to me)
ISU stomped the crap out of a team we didn’t beat……I wouldn’t take them lightly.

A couple good things happened today, Leach and the fighting cougars beat the fighting Jackie’s and Arizona State. And Arky won, Tech beat them, Ole Miss beat Bama…how about that defense in the SEC?
It would’ve been entertaining to see Ole Miss win out, and cause a blackhole in the heads of all the SECers when the playoffs either had a 2 loss SEC champ, or a one loss Bama (or Lester State) that didn’t even win their conference, as a participant. Or a miracle of biblical proportions…No SEC team at all, for rational-minded folk…and therefore, proving their might be some fair-mindedness in this playoff committee after all.

A few weeks ago, I thought that TCU was our biggest challenge, then I was thinking Bears. Now, I think that the biggest challenge to finishing November undefeated is going to be Okie lite.
Amazing how much a few injuries can change a season for a team. Happened to us last year, and seems to be happening to TCU and BU this year. OSU is still full strength and that is making a difference.
Pokie state did lose a top tackler the same time WVU lost their defensive stud. But they have remained pretty healthy on both sides this season.
although. . . tcu was cheated out of 5 pts (obvious that osu was holding doctson’s jersey and should have been 1st and goal at 1; instead they kicked a fg) and they went for 2 when they could have kicked extra pt. SO. . . what I’m saying is at 5 pts to tcu=34 pts and osu beats tcu when they lose doctson, boykin throws 4 int. by 14 pts. okay.
it wasn’t THAT impressive of a win IMO.

Best OC we have ever had in my opinion. Yes he does have a lot to work with, but him and coach Collins running the DB’s we have a real shot the next few years.

It still baffles me how we lost that one game.
Before I get hammered, I like Riley and glad we have him. However, there are a couple of things I notice we do all the time.
1) The run game was doing well but he prefers the pass. In the first half, I felt like we could’ve picked up a lot more 1st downs with the run but ended up 3 passes and out.
2) Passing seems outside the hashes. Hardly see a slant, skinny post, or seam. The middle is where you make a living, ask Baylor so I’m curious why we don’t pass more in the middle.

As to no slants in last night’s game, in fairness they have used those patterns in nearly every game this year. The way isu played the 3-4 and those LB blitzes up the middle may have had an impact.
I get it but when they are blitzing, hit the short route. Tired of Baker taking a pounding waiting for a long pass. I just want to see Andrews more involved in the middle. Andrews does a skinny post or drag with play action, he will destroy the LB’s.
Each game is different. This game the big gash plays were available.

I haven’t seen the freshman in recent games, I don’t think he is hurt just too light and inexperienced for the recent district games and their rushing games.
Okay. Robinson looks a lot taller than 6′.
As for the offense. Haller is fast and explosive. However, if they have another QB, I say put him in the game. They seem one-dimensional with Haller in the wildcat.
They brought the JV soph QB up and he played a little late in the 4th. Last week they opened the game with stud DB Cortz Hurd at QB with Haller and Chavis as his backfield mates.
Coach Harper is a good coach and it seems nearly every personnel move he has made in recent years have worked well.
I agree with your assessment. LR does get pass happy at times, but then again so do most OC’s out there these days. The thing I am liking about Riley though, is it seems he realizes when he gets too pass happy, and he makes dang sure and gets back to running the ball.
As for not utilizing the middle more, lets just say I hope its coming, cuz its certainly there.

For whichever scenario you were posting those stats, 1) they’re awesome! 2) They are also a little skewed because we had really large leads in all of those, and were running much more in second half to run clock.

I’m with you. Love Riley but he isn’t above criticism at all. He even admitted that he didn’t do a great job in that 2nd quarter. After the big blows in the 1st quarter they just kept taking huge shots. How many times did we see baker, once again holding onto the ball taking 5 step drops waiting for something to open up down field and getting sacked or pressured. This team must utilize the quick passing game. Mix slants, shallow crossers, stops, outs, bubbles, tunnel screens all of it to get the ball out in no more than 3 seconds.
I can’t remember how many times I was yelling at the TV “throw the ball away.”
You can tell it just kills Baker to throw the ball away. That is just something he wants no part of.
I hope he gets over it before he kills us or himself.

I may get beat up on this but I’m starting to wonder if Baker is padding his stats by not throwing it away. He will take a loss instead of throwing it away cause I in his mind he’s thinking, no big deal I can make it back up. Riley has struggled with the 2nd Q all year.
Didn’t get to see the game live, but watching it now. Love seeing the big play capability return to the offense this year. I don’t think any other team out there has as much dual ability to hit the long ball downfield and pound the rock as do the Sooners.
