This is all in the Bob Stoops presser thread, but just to avoid it getting lost in everything else that was said I wanted to post a quick injury update based on Stoops’ comments today (Wednesday).
Stoops stated that Geneo Grissom is a little behind where they thought he’d be in his recovery and as a result will not be available for the bowl game.
Stoops also said that Julian Wilson separated his shoulder two days ago during a practice and as a result, he also will not be available versus Clemson.
Stoops said that at this point, Sterling Shepard is still questionable for this game because of his groin injury.
Other than those three guys, Stoops said the expectation is that everyone else dealing with an injury is expected to be back for the bowl game. Be it; Trevor Knight, Samaje Perine, Quentin Hayes, etc. Now, obviously that doesn’t eliminate the possibility of someone re-aggravating an injury during practice, but as it stands today Stoops believes most of his guys will be back.

Too bad for Julian. Hopefully he will be ready to go by the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. He will need to make a good showing athletically because there will be a lot of questions looking at his game (understatement).
Shepard needs to take better care of his groin. We need it on the field.
Yep. I hope they’re being overly cautious this time. Hey- maybe that’s the source of the old “no sex” before a game advice!
Ive never had any issues with a groin pull, so I just dont know?
Can’t help but wonder why he was ever put back on the field a second time after aggravating the injury the first time. I also think the injury had its origin when he landed on that telephoto lens. No way should a photographer be permitted to put equipment on the ground. That lens comes with a lens case that he could sling over his shoulder.
Maybe, I never considered the “camera landing” to be a precursor to his groin injury but you might be onto something there.
Goes w/o saying it sucks immensely for two fifth-year guys like Wilson & Grissom to be forced to miss what should be the final game of their college careers.
Loosing Wilson is not that big of a deal and honestly he has no future in the pros. Grissom though is a beast and has not been given the opportunities to show it. I think Grissom needed this game. He will score well at the NFL camps and should go in the latter rounds of the draft. Hope he shows up in the pros.
Dude, harsh…
“honestly he has no future in the pros” and what NFL scout did you get this from? The NFL is about projected need and the ability to play multiple positions in a scheme. Some NFL teams may feel he fits their scheme (prototype). There are guys in the pros today that people thought would or should not be there. Then again there are guys sitting at home on their couch who were touted as a ‘can’t miss’.
Losing**
Wait, your metric for justifying him deserving playing time is his NFL readiness? These guys gave 5 years of effort whether they make it big or not.
BTW. I thought Wilson actually did well having shuffled the position in his time here. I think he WAS a big deal and you see the dropoff when he got injured.
This does hurt because Julian would have gone back to safety. Freeing up Stricker to rush the passer.
Yeah because the NFL isn’t looking for 6’2″ rangy, long, cornerbacks these days… He played in a terrible scheme this year while being banged up. Dude has a chance, but to say “he has no future in the pros” is dumb.
The Chiefs would likely give him a shot. They have some issues there and LOVE big corners.
This is dumb. I’m a Bears fan and would love to have Wilson at Safety right now. Hell, he could play QB for them right now.
Sad for Wilson and Grissom. Regardless of what anyone thinks of Wilson’s play at cornerback, he’s been a really good Sooner and I’d love to see him get the opportunity to play in the NFL.
Didn’t Shead hurt his knee?
