– Du’Vonta Lampkin: As a brief update, Lampkin’s release has not quite come in yet. I have been told by some close to the situation, however, it is expected (right now) sometime in September.

– Redshirts: I spoke with a couple sources and was able to track down some names of guys we are told, as of now, are likely to redshirt. Keep in mind (1) any number of circumstances could change things and (2) this list is not necessarily complete, rather simply the names we have been told thus far:

DB Antoine Stephens
OL Cody Ford
DE Kenneth Mann
DE Gabriel Campbell
WR John Humphrey
DL Neville Gallimore
LB Arthur McGinnis

– Caleb Kelly: 2016 LB Caleb Kelly (Fresno, CA) released the list of schools he will officially visit this fall and, as expected, OU made that list. The other schools that will also receive visits are Michigan, Oregon, Notre Dame & Texas. I’m told the OU staff continues to feel good about where things stand with regards to Kelly, who has already been to Norman multiple times prior. So while this official visit was expected, it still speaks to Kelly’s interest in that he could have just as easily decided to see some other school with one of his five official visits. Instead, he chose to see OU again.

I have been curious about Kelly’s interest in Texas since they were a school that offered late in his process. Kelly’s mother did tell me that they have family ties to Texas. Regardless, it stills seems that OU and Michigan are probably the schools to beat at the moment.

– Johncarlo Valentin: 2016 offensive lineman & OU offer, Johncarlo Valentin (Philadelphia, PA), is planning to be in Norman next weekend for OU’s season opener. Valentin had originally planned to use an official visit during the weekend of the WVU game, but evidently there has been a change of plans.

Valentin is a very talented offensive lineman, who is being pursued by a number of programs. You’ll recall, however, that he has a close relationship with former OU standout Trent Williams. When we spoke with Valentin several weeks ago, he even went so far as to say, “Trent Williams is like my brother…he told coach Bedenbaugh about me.”

Valentin has also scheduled an official visit to Arizona State in the month of September. While not yet confirmed, I expect him to also visit Auburn and Virginia Tech at some point as well.

– Jordan Parker: Earlier this week, 2016 CB Jordan Parker (Pittsburg, CA) tweeted out that he has set up his official visit to Oklahoma for October 3rd when the Sooners will be hosting West Virginia. Last we heard, OU was looking to take one more CB in this 2016 class. Obviously room can be made for the right prospect, but as of now it is our understanding the Sooners are looking to fill that one secondary spot.

Obi Eboh is still very much in play so it’ll be interesting to see, if Eboh were to commit, how things might play out with Parker. Perhaps they are both takes for OU irrespective of numbers. We’ll have to wait and see if it comes to that.

– Avery Roberts: An offer we missed that occurred recently was to 2017 LB Avery Roberts (Wilmington, DE), who has received a number of major offers from schools across the country. I spoke to Roberts earlier this week, who said he is very interested in the Sooners and is in the process of speaking to his parents about possibly taking an unofficial visit to Norman sometime soon.

UPDATE (Sun., 4:57 pm): Have chatted with a few sources and it sounds like 2016 CB Obi Eboh is contemplating making a commitment decision pretty soon. It also sounds like OU is the team to beat. I can’t say for certain when this is going to happen but I’m being told that Obi and the family are definitely thinking about making the decision very soon. And again, OU is the favorite at the moment.

Anybody else planning to do the boat thing for this Tennessee trip? Looking for some friendlies to tie up with.

    • Katyboomer says:

      Wow!!!!!!!!

    • Jesse says:

Just listening to the announcers during the game they raved about the kids arm strength/accuracy they also said at the end of the 4th he threw for 322 yards but obviously they didn’t have the official stats.

    • Boom says:

Shame too as his WRs let him down in 2nd Q. They dropped 4 or 5 passes in a row which shouldn’t been dropped. Accurate and quick arm, all good.

      • BleedCrimson says:

Several of those were on critical 3rd down. DB’s were playing pretty tight most of the night. Some really nice throws in the right places.

        • Boom says:

2nd & 3rd down on same position, both drops inside redzone for 1st down and most likely TD. McKinney goes the other way and scores, 14 pt swing. Horn middle of defense isn’t solid as of now.

          • EasTex says:

Horn had 3 returning starters on offense, 2 on defense.
Boyd had 6 on offense, 5 on defense from a team that lost to Cedar Hill in regionals back in December.
A good illustration of how having a dynamic QB gives teams a chance.

          • Boom says:

No doubt and he looked good especially for the 1st game. I think they will be much improved during the year.

    • Bob Edwards says:

Another Danny White. QB and punter.

    • Dustin says:

Kid looked really good. Definitely needs to put on some weight. That would also help with arm strength.

  • Katyboomer says:

Really like the Roberts kid. he can hit with great force and is fast!

    • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Man he gives hits and takes hits. Definitely worth keeping an eye on.

    • Daniel Ruffo says:

There were a few times early in the video that whomever he tackled/hit didn’t get up for awhile. ILB like the good ole days. The next Boz?

  • Jason Vos says:

    CB Antoine Stephens not DE

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

47…here is a link to the Jalen Saunders clip…the link takes straight to the time https://youtu.be/zk1U3tD9v7U?t=48

    • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Thanks Dave, Man he sure was a special player to have for the good guy’s. Not very computer savvy, how do you imbed videos on here? when I try it always post a link will never put video up. 🙁

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

I right click the video and select copy url or in this case copy url at current time

and the more I watch him, the more I wonder how we wouldve done with a more consistent passing game in 2013

    • T. says:

The quickness, speed, and hands of course…. but his route running and ability to find the open space is a concept in which Riley’s offense is based, which greatly excites me.

    • KJ1123 says:

Another CaliSooner! I dont know why people think California isn’t really one of OU’s recruiting grounds. They’ve been it for years.

    • CS says:

Met Jalen in ATL airport!! Mentioned the ALA game and his face lit up!! Always played BIG in BIG games!!

    • Dd992emo says:

I fear Jalen is facing a cut from the Saints in the next couple of weeks. They drafted this Murphy kid from Mizzou and he’s been getting most of the return reps. I hope they keep Jalen, but it doesn’t look good.

  • Chas Taylor says:

I thought Antoine Stephens was a defensive back?

  • Jeremy Siebold says:

    is Stephens a DB??

  • Jordan Esco says:

Just a typo re: Stephens, people. Everybody calm down.

Definitely appreciate everyone pointing it out though 🙂

    • SoonerfanTU says:

James Hale wouldn’t give us information with typos. 😉

      • bjwalker82 says:

James Hale would definitely not…..Hey! What happened to my credit card??

      • Jordan Esco says:

If that’s the bar, I feel pretty comfortable we are far exceeding it.

      • Sooner 4Ever says:

And HEY, ya know, we’re gonna, ya know, gonna have to really work on the, ya know, ya know, have to work on, ya know, the whole typo thing, ya know, what with the wacky world of recruiting and all, ya know. And as I always say, ya know, it really all comes down to, ya know… what was the question again?

        • SoonerOracle737 says:

I overlook the typo’s for the most part. But the run-on sentences just kill me.

  • Oscar says:

Johncarlo Valentin must have had a chat with Lane Johnson. Nice!

  • Sooner 76 says:

I think that the following true freshmen will play this year:

    Defense: DeBerry OLB
Houghton, Sunderland, and McKinney, all Ss
    Mbanasor CB

On offense, only Samia will play for certain.

    Maybe/Likely:

    Defense: Overton NT

    Offense: Green and Miller WRs
    Hearne OG

    Unlikely unless injuries:

    Defense: Lampkin DT

    Offense: Evans OT, Anderson RB

    That’s clear as mud, right?

    • Zack says:

Anderson will play. No sense putting rs on a guy who can spell Perine and Mixon. I know the depth is great but Anderson might be 3rd on the depth chart over brooks and Ross so I don’t know why they would hold him out if he can produce more than the 2 behind him. Just my thoughts though.
Also I think linemen should almost always RS because they are the most “grown man” positions on the field so to me they always need a year of weight room and college level practice.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

Is Anderson 100% healthy? I forget what his injury was, but I was under the impression he wouldn’t be healthy for awhile.

      • Sooner 76 says:

I agree about the linemen, but Samia is just too good to redshirt. I could easily have put Hearne in the last category.

I think they’d like to RS Anderson if they can, but I agree that he’s probably better than the ones behind him.

    • Fear The Magic says:

I pretty much agree however Id move DeBerry down to Maybe/Likely ( more likely than maybe ) and Id move both Green and especially Miller up to “will play”. In Rileys offense I think we’ll have at least 8 WRs playing quite a bit.

      • Sooner 76 says:

Probably one of Dahu Green or AD Miller will be in the rotation. Coaches seem to like them better than several of the holdover receivers.

    • KJ1123 says:

      DeBerry;

    • KJ1123 says:

      I think

      Maybes:
      DeBerry
      Green
      Lampkin
      Evans

Everyone else will play except for Hearne, I think he will RS for sure.

      • Sooner 76 says:

Evans is probably no better than 3rd at LT right now, so it would take an injury for him to play. Plus he had the injury last year.

        • KJ1123 says:

Yeah Evans is at best maybe 5th option at tackle. I agree he will be forced into action only out of necessity at this point.

  • BleedCrimson says:

    G-Day minus 8
Just one week and a wake-up. I am getting soooo pumped to see our new offensive machine and to see how well the DB’s have been coached up for the upcoming season. I am really beginning to feel this is going to be a special season with a bit of Sooner Magic sprinkled here and there.
Anyway, here are some names for the countdown.
Jalen Saunders – Sonny Brown – Ryan Reynolds – Darrell Shephard – Donte Nicholson

  • KJ1123 says:

Saw Parker play last year as a Jr. He played alot of reciever too. It was extremely obvious that he was their best player.

  • DUNCANSOONER says:

For some reason I wasn’t expecting Humphrey to be red shirted

  • Zack says:

Surprised to see gallimore and Humphrey on the list. I know Humphrey needs to add weight and may not be ready right away but his speed can’t be taught.

  • KJ1123 says:

Im glad TFB has someone on the sidelines for the scrimmage today to give us real time updates RIGHT??????
    http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4Je2cNLAaec/UPlOpZhNxnI/AAAAAAAADO8/yT77_iD0Zzk/s1600/troy+thumbs+up.gif

  • OceanDescender says:

This absolutely speaks to the tremendous job done by que Overton but I seriously thought gallimore would be the true freshman DT showing up on the field this fall. I think playing Canada ball might’ve forced an adjustment period too. Is it game day yet??

    • EasTex says:

Proud of Overton for his determination and hard work. I too thought Gallimore would be a force and play this year.
      As to your question…NO!
      http://media4.giphy.com/media/71PLYtZUiPRg4/200.gif

    • KJ1123 says:

I think the coaching and competition in Canada had something to do with it. He has been and is still “raw”. I had a chance to watch Neville at the Opening compete side by side with guys like Khalil McKenzie, Josh Sweat, Terry Beckner, Rashon Gary, and to be honest, Neville was clearly WAY behind on technique and coaching. But physically he was just as strong and big. He’s going to be good no doubt, with Coach Reynolds help I think he’s going to flourish.

      • OceanDescender says:

Those are some potentially great lineman listed there. You’re right though, a former NFL technician can get him to their level and beyond I’m sure.

    • Clint Lenard says:

Same. I watched him in whatever “all-star” game he played in last year and saw the same explosiveness he showed in his game film. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him get a lot of praise while on the scout team.

  • Jeff says:

Texass thinks once they get him on campus they can reel him in

  • EasTex says:

Allen Eagles start the season in their repaired stadium tonight against a tough opponent.

  • Dick Bump says:

Season ticket sales are up 1800+ over last year 67000+ total. Pretty impressive.

  • KJ1123 says:

Anyone know if there is a designated section for OU ticket holders at the red river? Or is it just a free for all?

    • Jordan Esco says:

      For OU/Texas?

      • KJ1123 says:

        Yes

        • Defend Colfax says:

It’s always half crimson and cream and half concrete and aluminum. Or atleast after halftime it is.

          • KJ1123 says:

Ok thanks….it will be again this year! So basically OU fans can sit anywhere after halftime.

          • Dick Bump says:

Open carry doesn’t start until January, so sit wherever.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Tejas is a CCP reciprocity state with Ok, so we might just do that.

          • EasTex says:

Don’t know what a CCP is, Texas has CHL.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

            Concealed Carry Permit.

          • EasTex says:

Never heard it called that, only Concealed Handgun License.
Open carry with a CHL begins New Year’s Day in Texas.
            /’bout danged time

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Waiting for Oklahoma to come to their senses and get rid of the permit requirement. The 2nd Amendment is good enough justification for any kind of carry.

          • EasTex says:

I agree. Acquiring a CHL is de facto gun owner registration.
An interesting aspect of the Texas Open Carry Law is law enforcement cannot ask to see your CHL if you are observed in open carry.
As a life long shooter and 2nd Amendment supporter, it is my sincere wish that all who do Open Carry wear a “retention” holster, preferably with triple retention.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Yes, safety is a must. And rule # 1 is never point it at anything you don’t intend to shoot.

          • EasTex says:

A retention holster so some idiot doesn’t try to snatch it out of the holster.
Had to recite the first ten safety rules as a kid before I could even hold an empty gun. Fired my first shotgun just before my 7th birthday.

          • CrimsonNative says:

Or as we like to call it…The Great Texodus!

          • J J says:

            MassTexodus is proper term 🙂

    • jimintexas says:

OU is in the South half, where the common team entrance is, if you look at a Cotton Bowl seating chart. My ticket are usually above the entrance. I guess you could sit in any open seats. But, I can’t think of any reason to choose to sit in the orange half Makes me shake to think of it.

      • KJ1123 says:

        Thanks Jim that helps.

        • jimintexas says:

I think you will find player’s family tickets on the East side of that half, about the 35-40

        • EasTex says:

Yessir, South of the 50 is OU, the same end the tunnel is in. Odd years OU is the visiting team and will be in white unis.
          https://youtu.be/KJ9Y8p-eMcI

          • Sooner 76 says:

If you recall the 2000 game, it was reported that the texas players were taunting the OU players in the tunnel before the game, saying, “You are afraid of us.” As they were walking through the tunnel for half time, with the score 42-7 OU, Bob Stoops yelled, “Who’s afraid now?”

            Just awesome.

          • EasTex says:

I recall that game, didn’t know about the “woofing.”
Other than the total annihilation of Texsa, I remember the horrible announcers.

            this X 1000!!!

      • j l says:

i can think of a reason. UT’s tickets would be much cheaper, LOL!

    • Daddy R says:

Last time I went, tickets have assigned seats. its NOT a free for all. But, they do split the OU vs texas side, so hopefully you’re buying from a sooner!

    • Tex'ish says:

Yup – split in half. Tickets are assigned seats.

  • Jason Vos says:

I see this in Que Overton’s future

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DY3_kutsTjE

  • Fear The Magic says:

Saw this on another site from a very reliable source. He’s certainly come up with excellent inside information in the past.

“Talked to a friend on the team today had an interesting conversation. He said “Ya know if you asked most OU fans who the 2 best players on OU’s offense will be over 90% would probably say Sterling and Samaje. Honestly they may not be the best at their position on the team.” He went on to praise Dede Westbrook and Joe Mixon. He said “Joe is by far and away the best football player I have ever played with. He is amazing” He also said not to expect to much from Orlando Brown because yes he is good, very good for a true freshman but a lot of it is Farniok is just that bad. Said Farniok gave up 3 sacks in a row in a scrimmage and watched him lose his spot right then and there.

Also described a play he believed won Baker the job in their last scrimmage. It was 4th and 15 and they ran a bootleg right and Baker couldn’t find anything so he scrambled back left with the defensive line over pursuing to the right and on the run squared his shoulders up to the line and fired a 40yrd for a touchdown.”

    • KJ1123 says:

Looks all on point. Joes one of those guys who can make things happen even with an average OL (not saying our OL is average). And I hate to say it and I dont like talking negative about players, but he’s right about Farinok, St. John as well. Samia would 100% redshirt if we had last years line.

      • Fear The Magic says:

Yeah it looks like the OLine is a bit of a concern for sure followed by the Safetys and then depth at CB. Other than that I think that we’re very solid at all positions.
QB of course is wait and see.

        • KJ1123 says:

Im 100% behind Baker, but I can’t help but think that it’s the state of the OL that helped him get the nod. Not that he will be running for his life the entire game, but it sure is plus that he can do that.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

I think the key is him having that “pocket awareness” that so many QB’s don’t. This sounds like one of those plays where he was aware of defensive players around him and made the play accordingly. I’m encouraged and hope it shows up in games too.

          • guest says:

We’ve had passing QBs and we’ve had running QBs. Mayfield may be the first scrambling QB we’ve had in a long time.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Knight has solid mobility. Not sure that the state of the OL is all that bad. Must remember that most teams don’t have a Striker or Bond.

        • Scott Moore says:

I think it’s paramount that Baker make quick good decisions early in the season as the O-line gels. Get the ball out quick to all of those weapons. With this system, assuming LR play calling is solid, quick mistake free distribution will go a long way. Hopefully along about the Texas game the line is solid enough to where Shake and Bake can sit back in the pocket and let a deeper play develop.

      • Stephen Dale says:

what is equally disappointing is neither JC signee ( Danley & Mittermeier ) apparently is going to help this year : hence the promotion of fr/rs and true frosh onto the depth chart……

        • KJ1123 says:

Yes. Mittermeier will most likely Redshirt.

        • SoonerMGB56 says:

Samia is a story unto itself, but as for the other youngsters, they have been in the system for a year or more. That makes a difference.

And by all accounts, while Alvarez has a lead on Danley for the LG position, it seems to be slight, and the starter is as yet undecided. Danley will get plenty of PT, whether as a starter or backup. And Danley went through spring practice.

Mittermeir, was a late arrival, and by all accounts needs to get bigger and stronger. He has 4 years to play three. So he has time to contribute.

And according to Jamal Brown, Orlando Brown is a supremely talented kid, for whom the light has gone on. And he has an NFL bloodline. HIs father played LT in the pros.

      • Rick says:

We obviously do better talent wise, some years than others. Seems we found a few diamonds this year. Monty and Bedenbaugh were spot on with most of their picks. Having said that there are always a few that don’t quite pan out and a few that are better than expected. You never know till they start playing on Saturday. From what I am reading, the OL is very young, inexperienced, but talented. If they can give Mayfield a little time early in the season (and get by Tennessee), maybe by the end of the season hitting those last 4 games in stride, (not really inexperienced any more), I think we will see our true potential.

    • Soonerfan24 says:

Wouldn’t be surprised if Cyrus Kouandjio gave up 3 straight sacks in the Sugar Bowl. I don’t know how good Farniok is, but a good pass rush can make even an All American OT look bad.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

        Obviously, the coaches weren’t impressed.

      • Super Keith says:

I believe Farniok was a project player the minute he committed. He’s so big that I’m sure it was hard to think he couldn’t develop into a decent contributor. Unfortunately, I just don’t think he has what it takes to be a solid o-lineman. People don’t really understand how athletic a player must be to play O-line, and especially tackle. You can get away with a slower, less athletic guy at guard, but at tackle you have to have someone with great footwork, a quick first step and the ability to diagnose the defensive lineman’s intent. One or two of the three just isn’t enough. I’m afraid that Farniok has just never developed into the guy they hoped he would. He’s been in Norman for going on 5 years, and if he hasn’t gotten it by now, it’s probably not going to happen.

I hope I’m wrong, and he turns it on this year. I really do!

      • guest says:

Farniok is solid, he just will not be picked #1 overall in next Spring’s NFL draft!

    • Mr. Jones says:

Thanks for passing along the information. However, Brown is a RS freshman.

    • metzker says:

Fear whats your name on scout?

    • SoonerinLondon says:

I was afraid of that. Oh well. We have the same line problems every time we graduate. Just ask Sammy B.

    • paganpink says:

Man, I’m dying to see Mixon get out there next week! If he’s even half as good as everyone says we are in for a special year. And our coaches and other sources aren’t ones to gush about specific players because we’ve seen some great ones at Oklahoma- which makes it even more exciting! Sounds like the kind of player you are told to prepare for and it doesn’t make one bit of difference. Man oh man.

      • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Man Oh Man!, Can you smell what the Mix is cooking. 😉

      • Walter Sobcek says:

I like that Sam and Joe have different styles. Perine will plant a DB into the dirt, Joe will leave him standing in the dirt. Either way, dirt is involved.

        • JB says:

Farniok is limited, athletically. He works hard and will represent OU well, within the bounds of his limited athleticism. He’d probably do better at RT though.

He’ll play, but not at LT against better speed rushers probably. Brown, or St. John would be better LT’s. We would have issues with Derek, against better teams.

    • Nate Broadus says:

OL sounds like it’s going to be the position that will have to gel the most as the season progresses.

Bedenbaugh has my trust, all things considered. I’m not shivering in my boots about him finding a way to get some good play out of this OL — it may just take some time.

Luckily, it sounds like OU has the right backs to allow for the OL time to come together.

    • William Ryan says:

This is not good news at all about farniok I thought he played well against okie state two years ago no disrespect to the kid bit he’s a 5th year seniors with God given and talent we need him to step up and solidify the left tackle spot I think Zeus jr. Is going to play in the nfl one day but right now he’s just not ready to start a full season in a perfect situation he should play enough to get his feet wet and get ready for next year

  • KJ1123 says:

Jordan is that you on the right?

  • KJ1123 says:

So, regarding Frison, hearing that he could be back in about a month. Whether he starts practicing immediately or plays…I’m not sure.

    • metzker says:

KJ does anyone know what rules he broke?

      • thebigdroot says:

Heard academics. Don’t know for sure.

      • SoonerinLondon says:

I don’t want to start anything, because my information is not official, but I’ve been told there was some work to be done on grades and a minor rules violation.

        • Dustin says:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t school start four days ago? And didn’t his suspension happen before that?

          • Daddy R says:

Could have been (most likely was, if this is even the case) from summer course work..

          • Dustin says:

I wasn’t aware he (or anyone else, for that matter) was taking summer courses. That’s why I’m confused as to why people suggest academics.

          • Daddy R says:

Just curious, but why wouldn’t you expect summer courses? Don’t players often take summer classes to either catch up or get ahead? How would we know who was/wasn’t taking classes in the summer, there is not a public list is there? Again, I’m just totally curious as to your thinking (dont want this post to come across dick-ish…not my intent at all 🙂 )

          • Dustin says:

I don’t have expectations either way in regards to summer courses. The timing just prompted me to ask the question. Did anyone mention he was taking summer courses? I may have missed it. The limited info of the situation and the speculation gets to me. As far as I’m concerned, until Bob says he’s back in uniform, it’s not really any of my business. Oh, and don’t worry about sounding dick-ish. You didn’t.

          • Daddy R says:

Yea that makes sense. Not sure of the timing. I just saw it thrown around a few times this past week that it might be academic. Not sure if there was ever an official comment on that.

          • Dustin says:

As far as we know, it could be because of the spring semester, too. The fact is we don’t know all the facts.

          • Daddy R says:

Sounds a bit like the donald rumsfeld documentary, The Unkown Known.

          • Sooner 76 says:

In the 70s, players didn’t normally take summer classes. I remember once a player told me he had to take summer classes because he failed the class we had together in the spring semester.

          • Dustin says:

So, we should invade Austin? 😉

          • EasTex says:

Why not, no one there would fight back. :-0

          • Daddy R says:

That we could! lol I would actually like to see some sort of rotation with the red river game.. *4 year rotations: 2 games at cotton bowl, 1 game in Austin, 1 game in Norman.

*4 year rotations would allow for potential senior players to play at all 3 locations, and at cotton bowl twice. Would be sweet.

          • SoonerMGB56 says:

It is my understanding that all (or virtually all) of the players take summer courses. I believe that they have to be taking “full time” course work to get room and board monies in the summer. And they are all here for the “voluntary” work in the summer, and need that R&B, so I think pretty much all are taking summer courses.

          • Dustin says:

See, I thought that the dorms were closed during summer sessions. Just one more thing that I don’t know about lol.

          • SoonerinLondon says:

I think the grade problem may have been prior to this semester.

      • KJ1123 says:

Yes. But Bobs answer is its a team rule, so everyone has keep it at that.

    • Jordan Esco says:

I’m not sure how that would work from an academic standpoint, which I have to think at that point would take precedence over any on-the-field possibilities.

  • Brent says:

How do redshirt rules apply? Do they need to announce redshirt by a specific date?

    • Bob Edwards says:

If you don’t play for a year you can call it a redshirt year. I don’t think they have to actually do anything, you just can’t play if you have already played during four seasons and you can’t play if you have been at the school more than five years.

There used to be rules about playing in less than a certain percentage of games but I am pretty sure they got rid of that and now it is any play uses a year. There are exceptions that can be granted due to injury or other circumstance, but those require an appeal to the NCAA.

      • Daddy R says:

They got rid of allowing them to play early and then RS? I was unaware of that. Didnt it used to be like less than 4 games or something like that, then you could still RS?

        • Bob Edwards says:

It think it was 20% of the games or something like that. So basketball was more than football.

      • Brent says:

Thanks. So barring any unforeseen injuries, we should know who is redshirting by the start of conference play.

      • Dustin says:

All of this is true. Straight out of the NCAA Football Manual: “Any competition, regardless of time, during a season in an intercollegiate sport, shall be counted as a season of competition in that sport…”

      • Katyboomer says:

I thought a year or so ago the NCAA was kicking around 5 years to play 5 years. I wounder if they are still looking at that.

    • KJ1123 says:

I think as long as you dont play in ANY games, you can be redshirted.

  • boomersooner says:

sounds like a winner. didn’t he used to coach at lil bro?

ILLINOIS FIRE HEAD COACH TIM BECKMAN
In a release, Illinois AD Mike Thomas said he learned of “efforts to deter injury reporting and influence medical decisions that pressured players to avoid or postpone medical treatment and continue playing despite injuries,” adding, “I expect my coaches to protect players and foster their success on and off the field.”

    • Jordan Esco says:

Do not believe this to be accurate based on what we have been told. But also can’t speak to this person’s Texas sources either.

      • Daddy R says:

Well that’d be nice, but guess its still just a “wait and see game.”

        • SoonerfanTU says:

Yeah, I’m not going to get to worked up either way. He is going to end up at OU, and is going to play at OU. And he is likely to redshirt this season or play a very limited role. It’ll work itself out.

      • rphokc says:

is there any reason the ncaa might poke their nose in all this

      • Doobie74OU says:

Doesn’t the Lampkin story kind of not matter anymore as far as this season goes, If he is cleared he will RS and if not has to wait a year anyway? Still like to know the outcome but wished Texas would have given its release a month and a half ago!

  • Daryl says:

I like Roberts a lot. Looks great great on the blitz and times them very well, good against the run, good athleticism and motor, pretty good hitter, and his highlights included him dropping in coverage. Let’s get him!

  • Daddy R says:

1 Week away, basically!! (a little motivation, as to not overlook our opponents)

  • KJ1123 says:

I see on twitter all these kids getting parking tickets the first week of school at OU…hillarious.

    • Dustin says:

Only going to get worse when the Residential College begins construction.

    • Daddy R says:

Should learn where to park! lol, things always rough first few days/weeks. Parking gets easier after a month or so, when a bunch of folks start missing classes…

  • Daddy R says:

Quick question for you all. I have a FF draft coming up tomorrow evening, and I have the #1 pick! The league is a 16 team, qb driven league (almost everyone in this league takes qb in round 1 for some reason..). I was thinking Rogers before Jordy went down, but Now I’m thinking A. Luck. What says you other fantasy footballers? Luck or Rogers?

    • boomersooner says:

luck even before jordy went down

    • kt-raida says:

      Rodgers still

    • KJ1123 says:

Luck because of the volume Indy throws. Plus he has some new weapons this year. Rogers is awesome but he sits at least once or twice a year in the 4th.

      • Daddy R says:

Kind of along the lines of what I was thinking. And they’ll probably throw more this year. And they play in a dome 10 times this season!

      • Fear The Magic says:

I agree with Luck but I’d go with Rodgers if they’d throw in Oliva Munn

      • Scott Moore says:

Yes, I agree. On top of all of the WR he’s got Gore to throw to as well. Plus the aging Gore also should still have enough to cause the defenses to respect the run a bit more than in the past. So Luck should blow way up in 2015.

    • ColoradoSooner says:

Wow. What kind of Bronco fan are you? 🙂

      • Daddy R says:

Ha! one that’s wholly unsure if Peyton will produce (fantasy wise) like a number 1 pick should! Lol, fwiw, I had him last year in another league, and he won me a super bowl 🙂 I play fantasy to win super bowls (and money), not to pick homers!

      • Daddy R says:

Going to try and steal him in another draft next week, with a 10th pick.

      • KJ1123 says:

If its a standard league and I have the 1st pick Im definitely going AD, no doubt.

        • Daddy R says:

Well, again, I’m in a 16 team league, where everyone like to take qb’s in first round or second. If I wait (my second pick would be # 32), I’m not getting a good one. Folks with the best qb’s usually win the SB in this league. Nothing against AD. But this winners in this league, have the best qb.

But I’ll take him if he’s there in the 3rd!

          • KJ1123 says:

16 TEAMS!? Does anyone ever break 100 points a week?

          • Daddy R says:

I know right! its crazy. And no, never over 100. getting into 50’s is a fantastic game in this league. I think the highest ever in this league (going on 15 years in this league for me, these boys were playing FF before the internet!!! lol…) is like 85 or 90 pts. 70’s and 80’s get hit only once or twice a year.

EDIT: I’m in one more league that was 12 teams, and now is 10. Over 100 pts is a must in that league, if you want to win! Its so different. 16 teams is a biatchhh, but competitive as hell.

          • KJ1123 says:

That’s CRAZY…..I can just imagine, I’m in a 12 team league and I barely sniff a 100 points. Last year I had Rodgers, A.Brown, Megatron, L.Bell, Julio..and I still didnt make the playoffs.

          • Daddy R says:

Damn! Well, Megatron was quite the fantasy disappointment last year, wasnt he? but still!

          • KJ1123 says:

Yeah he was, I traded for him too, sucked. My other back was Gore, that messed me up too.

          • Daddy R says:

lol. Each season is its own animal, thats for sure!

        • Fear The Magic says:

Yeah AD but first WR take Beckham

    • Doobie74OU says:

Yeah I think you got to go with a QB if you have a 16 team league that is geared toward QBs because you may be stuck with the 20th best QB if you wait till the 2nd Rd. I like Brees, Manning, Rogers, or Luck for your pick!

      • Daddy R says:

I’ve won a SB with Brees back in 2012 in this league. Whomever drafts Brees always has a good season. I’m just in the same boat with him, as I am now with Rogers. Losing your #1 target is never a positive for qb production.

        • Doobie74OU says:

I hear you but I pick Brees more for Sean Payton cause they will throw it a ton. Graham was injured a couple games last year but the back up did great and Marcus Colston has been up and down for several years, but Brandon Cooks is still there Mark Ingram out of the backfield and our very own Jalen Saunders is there. I bet Brees has a really solid year. All those guys floors are about the same but Rogers and Luck probably have a higher ceiling.

          • Daddy R says:

Very True. Yeah, I think Cooks is going to lead in TD’s this year. He’s a real stud. Hopefully Jalen can get some looks in a slot role. I like Ingram too, glad NO finally found 1 runner. their committee approach for last few years was annoying..

    • brainpimp says:

Luck. or buck the trend and take AD.

    • Scott Moore says:

Since you brought it up. I have quite the quandary. I pick 2nd in a 12 team non ppr league. I want AD of course but if he’s taken #1 I seriously have my doubts about Levion Bell who is suspended 2 and coming off an injury if I’m not mistaken. So if AD is taken. I’m thinking Eddy Lacy. But Jamal Charles is there. I would hate to take a fragile longhorn. What do you guys think?

      • Daddy R says:

I’ve never had much luck with “stud backs.” Seems like they always end up injured or not producing when I pick them. I’ve had much better luck taking stud qb’s within the top three picks, then going with guys like mark ingram, jeremy hill, denard robinson, etc… But if you’re def picking RB #1, then hard to go wrong with any of those guys listed, with the exception that they have all dealt with injury history. But then again, seems like most backs do at some point. Good luck!

        • Scott Moore says:

The reason I don’t believe in that strategy is aside from the top two QB’s, Luck and Rogers this year, you don’t gain that much more production than say a Romo or Stafford which in my savy league, you can get them much later. RB tend to score more points and there is a much bigger drop off after the top 5 or 6. Guys who take QB’s early in the first round in my league don’t do well because all the good RB and top wide receivers will be mostly gone before it gets back to you.

          • Daddy R says:

Another reason why fantasy is so fun! SO many different strategies. That league I have the number 1 in, is 16 teams, and qb’s score the most points. So everyone takes qbs first. If i waited in that one, I’m down to the Robert Griffins, and I’d rather not go that route, lol. In another league I’m in is only 10 teams, so waiting for a qb there is a little more doable. But, Good luck to you sir!

      • boomersooner says:

        lacy’s a good choice

edit:and in 2nd you could get miller as rb2, which is awesome. or hilton/mike evans as your wr1. not awful to go either way

        • Scott Moore says:

Yep, Lacy is a pretty safe pick which I prefer with my first. I like Hilton coming back around. Miller is interesting. Still not sold on Dolphins putting it all together. With Crab legs probably starting I’m a bit scared of Evans this year. Winston has a lot to learn and may be a bust. That’s my gut on him.

          • boomersooner says:

Hahaha. Crablegs. It’s crazy how those number 1’s won’t have any other threat to go alongside em and they still get theirs.

I like Miami. Not a dolphin fan but from fantasy standpoint. Tanneyhill is pretty good. Miller has Damien backing him up. They picked up Cameron and Stills, drafted Parker and Landry is awesome and Jennings still has a little left in the tank.

But Hilton is in the best passing offense in the league. For me, he’s safest with Miller right behind him

          • Scott Moore says:

Funny thing is. I got Lacy then came back and picked up TY. So that part went about as planned. Then got Emanuel Sanders on the way back down. I don’t know if I really like my team but that’s always the case. Free Agency is my friend.

  • OmorganU says:

So I got tickets to the Akron game and I was thinking of doing some tailgating. Any tips / suggestions for someone who hasn’t before?

Trotter seems pretty sore that Herbstreit picked OU to make the playoff. Trotter used to cover OU for ESPN..is there a reason he’s so sour now? Run-in with Stoops?

    • Zack says:

He was filling in for Al last month and dude was trolling OU big time. I don’t know if he feels burned by them for some reason or if he just doesn’t want to sound like a homer but I would be interested to know what his problem is.

This just gave a look-in on Fox Southwest Friday Night Football of the CP vs Aledo game, just in time to see CP score and make it 17-7 in the 3rd qtr.

      • Jesse says:

Ahh thank you! I’m from Tulsa and have a couple buddies that are seniors this year at CP only reason I wanted to know! Glad they’re winning and thank you so much!!

        • EasTex says:

Another look-in is on now, CP leads 24-7 at the end of 3.

          • Jesse says:

Nice! Whole quarter left but not bad for a team that just moved up from 4a last year I believe. From what they told me aledo is a pretty solid team

          • EasTex says:

I could look it up, but the announcers just said Aledo was hit hard with graduation, whereas CP had many returning starters from a playoff team.

          • Jesse says:

Maybe they just wanted me to think higher of their comparison to make the win look better haha.

For those following OU Basketball recruiting, Payton Pritchard committed to Oregon today. Lon needs to locate another big-time point guard for this class.

    • Oscar says:

      From the OUHOOPS board:
“Coach Kruger told him Thursday night that we were pulling out and he needed to go someplace else. His dad was enjoying the recruiting game way too much and was a problem. Plus his aunt for some reason was telling him how he needed to stay close to his family because she had gone to Arizona to play ball and she regretted playing far away from her family. In other news OU is actually playing in a juco point guard from Coffeyville who would not mind sharing the point with Woodard for a year. But OU feels it is down to USC and OU for the 2 Louisiana players as LSU has slow played the kids and they have some hard feelings now. OU feels they are in good shape”

Anyone know anything about R. Broyles situation this year? Is he going to have a chance to play? I noticed the stats from tonight’s game, and he wasnt listed. Is he sitting the preseason?

    • Daddy R says:

I found some interesting Lions’ practice notes, but this was from August 6th.. Still nice to hear Ryan getting after it…

“Ryan Broyles had an interesting day. After hauling in a quick out and juking past the first defender, the receiver was unexpectedly lit up by rookie safety Isaiah Johnson. As Broyles laid on the ground stunned, a few of the defenders on the sideline taunted him. The rest of the session, Broyles was incredibly aggressive, putting uncharacteristically punishing blocks on Wilson and Diggs.

After practice, Broyles was all smiles, calling the opportunity to get physical, “Fun.”

      — One more on Broyles, he did a nice job fighting through a jam by cornerback Crezdon Butler in one-on-one drills, ultimately hauling in a long pass down the left sideline.”

Really hoping we get obi eboh kid can play safety corner or nickel and looks to be the most versatile db in this class and a perfect fit for OUR defence.

  • Glocal Sooner says:

Good to see Travis Lewis having a nice preseason for the Lions. Hopefully that will carry over into the regular season. Our pro players without a torn ACL/MCL is shrinking.

    • William Ryan says:

Travis lewis was a beast my two biggest memory’s of him is destroying E J Manual (still cant believe my bills drafted him.. ) and the two personal foul aginst Texas 08 the second one was questionable, but none the lest dude could flat out cover sideline to sideline.

      • Zack says:

He was great at OU fell off his last year a bit from my memory then put up a 4.9 at the combine. I didn’t think he would still have an opportunity by now but good luck hope he gets some real snaps this season. And hopefully the lions aren’t done with Broyles he hasn’t had many snaps with Stafford when I’ve checked in on their games.

        • thebigdroot says:

He never looked as fast after he broke his foot.

Hopefully if the lions do let R.B. go, then the eagles can pick him up and let him catch some passes from Sam! That’d be sweet. Definitely want R.B. to get a chance somewhere…he seems to have had a pretty good camp so far.

          • Daryl says:

I would think that Carolina would give him a shot considering they have no except Olsen right now.

          • Daddy R says:

Good point. I’m sure several teams are watching cuts closely for receivers. If Broyles can stay healthy, he’s gonna surprise this league. I remember a few years back when he really started to come on for the lions, and was getting good PT, then got hurt again. But man he looked good when he was out there.

          • Daryl says:

I know. He has looked pretty good this preseason but last was not so good. I am not sure if he didn’t play much or just didn’t get chances. But he only had one target and no catches. If he didn’t get playing time last night then I woukd think that is not a good sign for him making team.

          • Zack says:

Broyles is good enough to hang around but the lions haven’t been willing to give him huge targets when he’s been healthy. So I would like to see him elsewhere.

        • William Ryan says:

      • hOUligan says:

Was in the student section for that one. Everyone was pumped as Pitt was actually good then.

      • Sooner 4Ever says:

In the ’70s, that was a celebrated, “great hit” that is still part of Sooner legend nearly 40 years later.

Sadly, if it happened now, Scott Hill would almost certainly be ejected for targeting. He “launched” himself at the runner and aimed high. Add in the fact that Dorsett was knocked out of the game with a “head injury” and there’s no way that wouldn’t be a targeting ejection.

        • BleedCrimson says:

I agree that some players were trying to injure other players and some rule changes were needed. However, I do believe that some of the rules interpretations have taken away from the game.

          • Sooner 4Ever says:

Agree. That was my point. A play that is iconic in Sooner history, a good, clean, hard hit, with no intent to injury… would be a penalty today and result in the ejection of a good player who made a good play.

Instead of being remembered as a big play in Sooner lore, it would be lamented for costing us 15 yards and the services of our star DB for the remainder of a big game.

      • Walter Sobcek says:

        Sooners clamped down on Dorsett.

    • BleedCrimson says:

      DeMarco Murray

      https://youtu.be/Aflr2ZThllQ

      • William Ryan says:

Demarco Murry is one of most physically gifted rb in stoops history and to luckly USC seen him as a corner back. Kid showed heart coming back from that gruesome knee cap injury. Kid could take it to the house any time he touched the ball. Was a complete back had 88 catches his senior year! But the only bittersweet thing in his career was not having him aginst Florida I truly believe he was the X factor that made that offence go and to see no chris brown get stopped for no gain on 3rd and 4th down was heart breaking…

        • Brad Warren says:

Especially considering the fact that Florida had no answer for Gresham. A fake to Brown on either play and the unguardable TE would’ve been all alone for a easy lob from Bradford. This was right before the half. Huge momentum changer. I hate it when a play is completely blown up and the identical play is called on next down. Even without Murray, we still gave that game away. I loved K Wilson, but this wasn’t his best moment. We easily should have been up 21-7 at half.

          • William Ryan says:

I agree with you on Gresham being basically unguardable but it’s hard to not run behind those big hog mollys on the left side in the Duke and loldholt on 1st and goal to go I hate to pin it on a player but on 4th down Brian simmons the right guard completely missed on his block and the DT went untouched and stopped brown in the backfield you really can’t blame Wilson on for that plus Bradford was under alot of pressure in the second half. Without Murry on the field it really took the explosiveness out of the offence and other than a few decent runs in the first half by brown our offence became some what one dimensional and lacked confidence and swag we seen from one of the best offence in history no disrespect to brown bUT Murry is a difference maker and is showing it in the NFL.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Not to mention we had first and 10 at their 11 but a hold by Duke R got the play called back.

        • RocketCitySooner says:

I think the play calling had something to do with those stops. We had Florida back on their heels. They didn’t know what to do. Instead of going up tempo, we went with the Meerkat. Gave Florida time to get set and stop us. The best thing for us to have done was go to the line and snap the ball. It was a time to hit them with a kill punch. Any punch. Just hit them. JMHO.

          • William Ryan says:

Yes the tempo had them on their heels and we was able to break off big runs in the first half and if you remember correctly we went with a quick snap on 4th down and Brian Simmons got beat by the DT imo I think simmons is still in his stance as we speak not having a game changer like Murry allowed them to key in on us and in the second half they got more pressure on Bradford and made us pretty much one dimensional.

          • EasTex says:

Meyer said if they hadn’t had a month to get ready for OU’s tempo they wouldn’t have had a chance.

          • William Ryan says:

I heard they had two offences on the field at the same time to get there defence ready for our speed.

          • EasTex says:

I heard the same thing, one offense ran a play and the next one was ready to run the next play within seconds.

          • William Ryan says:

They came up with the stops when they needed to no question about it was it bad play calling or missed assignments a healthy Murry would of been tremendous.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

            Missed block.

      • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

That time when Demarco ran by the defender…

All-American Brandon Everage. One of the greats to don the crimson and cream. RIP Brandon.

      https://youtu.be/8K2Aas2Sa_g

    • William Ryan says:

Brandon Everage is a Oklahoma legend the kid bleed crimson and cream. Was one of the most physical safety stoops ever had and most loyal still remember story’s about how he was riding a bike to practice.

    • thebigdroot says:

They will continue with their dominance as long as there no competent competition. FoxSports does such a half ass job. Their broadcast crews are not very good. I hate listening to the TV when they are doing an OU game. Don’t know what the hell they are talking about most the time. You’re guaranteed to miss some of the game because they are interviewing somebody.

      • Dick Bump says:

I agree. I’m not an ESPN fan but they’re usually better than FOX. That and I can’t save the games to DVD when they’re on FOX, which plugs up my DVR.

        • thebigdroot says:

They are usually on youtube by the following Monday. That’s odd it won’t let you DVR on certain channels.

          • Dick Bump says:

The DVR works fine it just won’t permit copying the games to DVD later. I Get an error message. It’s considered copyrighted content or something. Doesn’t happen with ESPN or ABC games, just frickin’ FOX.

      • Daddy R says:

Well, I would say you could always mute, and listen to toby on the radio broadcast, but unfortunately, the two are rarely in sync. It’s great if you’re having to get any work done during the game though, cuz then you can hear toby calling a touchdown run, and then run into the tv room to still catch it “live!” (seeing as the tv broadcast is usually a few seconds behind the radio..)

        • thebigdroot says:

LOL yeah I can’t do the radio and TV thing. The delay screws with me.

          • Dick Bump says:

It’s kind of a pain to get them in sync, but I’ve been able to get them sync’d by running the TV through the DVR and adding a little delay. Sometimes works better than others. It’s pretty good when it works. Toby and Merv add a lot to the game.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

The weird/odd thing is, I like FoxSports and what they do in their baseball coverage. But you are right, there football stuff just isn’t good enough.

      • Zack says:

Fox’s coverage sucks. One thing ESPN does better than anyone else is production and you don’t think of that when you’re watching but when you watch fox covering college football then it’s obvious. Plus I hate that it seems fox has longer or more frequent commercials. It takes 4 hours to watch a game on there.
I don’t think their announcers are that bad or any worse than ESPN. I think the problem is fox is in it just to be “competitive” and make money. I wish they aimed to knock ESPN off the pedastool.

        • paganpink says:

I think it’s driven by the fact ESPN has so much more money. Their production values are far higher because more cameras, more people, more money. But I still don’t like them!

    • boomersooner says:

So they have sec network and this is everybody else network? Or espnu2 more or less?

    • BleedCrimson says:

Another ESpin channel I will not be watching, unless OU or LLWS is on it.

  • Oscar says:

I’ve decided to come down from the water tower. I apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused. I was just trying to see if it was a good spot to watch the games. I couldn’t see anything but the press box. Sorry.

  • thebigdroot says:

It’s strange that it’s the Saturday before the season starts and it is so quiet. I guess no news is good news.

  • boomersooner says:

cause what’s a good list without a couple sec teams on it?

    http://grantland.com/the-triangle/2015-college-football-preview-leap-year-teams-arkansas-tennessee-minnesota-cal-temple-southern-miss/

arkansas makes little sense since you say it yourself that they return little on defense, but i reckon it is the sec and there are no juggernauts

    • John Garner says:

I love it when our coaches give back.

    • Cush Creekmont says:

Thanks for posting this! I have always loved the way the OU staff has helped uplift children with serious difficulties. While I love my OU football and want to win every game, this makes me PROUD of the folks representing my school!

  • Daryl says:

DOES ANYONE HAVE INFORMATION ON QUICK??? Yesterday was listening to Al on the animal. Tramel was on and said you know Miciah Quick may not start but he’s going to play quite a bit and Al quickly snapped, “uhhhh haha no he is not.” What is the deal here? I thought he looked very good late in the season especially for a freshman. TFB do you have any insight or any of the rest of you?

    • Big Higg says:

Seems like tfb said he was coming on pretty good late in camp.

    • Michael says:

I thought it was interesting, in the SiriusXm Oklahoma camp stop preview when they interviewed Mayfield, and asked something to the extent of what are some receiver names fans should know, Mayfield responded with 6 or so guys and forgot or failed to mention Quick. Probably just slipped his mind.

    • Zack says:

I would have to listen to it because I think Al is high on quick so that seems odd that he would suggest quick won’t play at all.

      • Daryl says:

Ya I agree last year before the season and during all he talked about was quick. So is quick in the doghouse for something?

        • Zack says:

I know watching the games last year he had a bad case of drops but he was a true freshman and a young one at that. I don’t think he’s 19 yet unless his birthday was within the last couple weeks.
He’s got potential but if he can’t be reliable as a WR they could see about moving him to running back or corner.

      • rphokc says:

think al is high on repeated trips to thailand

    • jrv04 says:

Yeah I heard him too. Al doesn’t know squat! He just talks out of his ***…..

    • BoomerDave says:

Quick is not catching the ball well at all. Don’t be surprised if he moves to CB, where he excelled in HS.

    • kokevo says:

He is having trouble catching the ball I have seen people mention it. I wanted him to play corner from the beginning he was a shut down corner in high school but the only way we could get him to ou was let him try receiver most schools were recruiting him as a corner.

    • William Ryan says:

I thought he played well and showed flashes at being a good slot receiver.

  • BleedyRayWilson says:

Anyone have a decent stream for the game? That 60 for PPV breaks the bank…

  • Randy says:

R Boyd committed to Texas AM.. That’s good right ?

    • Zack says:

In regards to Whaley? I don’t think it says anything different than what most think which is Whaley is a silent commit. Things can change but at this point I don’t see Whaley signing elsewhere on nsd.

      • Randy says:

Silent commit, but no one is for certain that it is to OU. Ofc, we assume he is and will but never know.

        • Zack says:

I think it’s a safe assumption though. No new offers have gone out and I believe I read somewhere that he was going to be a silent commit wherever he chose.
I’m not sure what Arkansas has done lately in offers for running backs or not but I think they’re in his top 5 and they can recruit the way ou does and just tell one kid he’s their guy that year and at some point he’s going to have a great opportunity to show what he can do.

    WILLIAMS INKS EXTENSION IN WASHINGTON
The Redskins are giving LT Trent Williams a 5-year, $66 million extension, with $43.25 million guaranteed, his agent, Vincent Taylor told ESPN. Williams is now the NFL’s highest-paid OT.

  • BleedyRayWilson says:

Anyone know if there will be a replay of the game on TV? Trying to decide whether or not to take the PPV plunge..

  • rphokc says:

ndst/griz………fun game…..griz coach no fear……..nice qb for ndst

    should have gone for it

  • rphokc says:

‘stitt happens’……..that was fun………makes next week a shorter wait

  • EasTex says:

    Well, now.
    Congratulations Montana Griz.
What a great first game for the new coach, new offense, new QB topped off with a fantastic finish.
Hope to see the same result for our Sooners.

    • John Garner says:

Awesome first game! I, however, hope we don’t have to beat Akron in the last 6 seconds of the game. 🙂

      • EasTex says:

No, I’m actually glad our offense has a weak opponent to start the new season, new offense, new OL and new QB. For the Griz to do what they did defies and exceeds audience comprehension.

        • eastoksooner says:

Yes that was an awesome game. The only thing they had going for them was that it was a home game. Other than that nobody really gave them a shot, but they BELIEVED THEY COULD. You can never underestimate the WILL of a team. I think this years Sooners will have a lot of the same kind of grit. Ready for next Saturday, it can’t get here soon enough. BOOMER!

          • Slim Sooner says:

SOONER! I do believe OUr boys BELIEVE they WILL win every game! Just six days and a wake up till game day!

        • John Garner says:

Agree. But you have to admit, other than a complete blow out of saxeT, it’s the kind of game we all love to watch. Add a complete blow out of little brother as well.

          • EasTex says:

It was a very entertaining game to the end, even more so since I wasn’t emotionally invested in it.

  • eastoksooner says:

So I ran my Dish network guide out til next Saturday at 5:00 and it shows the game being available on channel 458 for $39.99. I’ve been waiting for an announcement but thought I’d work my thumb out and see, your welcome guys.

    • EasTex says:

      LOL!
I got the same price from the TWC website. Still haven’t decided if I will spring for it again this year after the glitchy mess Fox made out of last year’s ppv.

      • Slim Sooner says:

Well, I’m gonna just do it then just wait on it. I always do. Price doesn’t even matter.

        • eastoksooner says:

I’m the same way, I don’t even want them to know what I’d be willing to pay for it. Gotta get it, been waiting 7 months on this!

        • EasTex says:

I don’t care about the cost in dollars, but I still remember the cost in anger and aggravation from the glitchy mess last year. Black screen until the middle of the 1st qtr, numerous screen freezes throughout and a black screen for the 4th qtr. What I did see wasn’t even in HD.
I said “never again” and hate to go back on my word especially to me.

          • JB says:

When I lived in Shreveport in ’95, I ordered a pay-per-view game, Colorado vs Nebraska. OU wasn’t playing that day and the other games available were garbage. I had Cox cable there. I stead of CU-NU, I got Minnesota-Northwestern. I called the cable company to bitch, and was on hold forever. Finally got to speak to a human, and they said they were working to fix it, but wouldn’t give me a refund because I was still getting a PPV game. What B.S.! When they finally switched over, it was deep in the 2nd Qtr and NU was already pounding CU. I was rooting for CU, my second college choice behind OU.

      • eastoksooner says:

        I’m getting it, no doubt.

  • ellisbr says:

Anyone know how Sammy B is doing tonight?

    • Zack says:

Pretty good based on his stat line. Not watching so I can’t say how he looks but I’d say pretty good.

      • Borba22 says:

I watched, and he was dropping dimes everywhere. Here’s his highlights: http://www.nfl.com/videos/philadelphia-eagles/0ap3000000517972/Preseason-Week-3-Sam-Bradford-highlights

        • BleedCrimson says:

Wow, that is awesome. Love to see it. Thanks for posting the link. I have a long time Navy buddy that is a Dallas fan. I keep telling him, Philly is gonna win the conference this year.

          • Zack says:

A lot of people are giving kelly hell for his decisions but it appears he’s bringing in guys he likes as opposed to being content with the talented players he started with in Philly and the ones most coaches/GMs wouldn’t let go. Hopefully for demarco and Sam it works in the regular season.

          • JB says:

Agreed. My favorite team is Denver, followed by anyone who plays the Dallas Cowboys. Go Philly!

        • Cush Creekmont says:

Wow – 25 points in the 1st quarter! That O mixed some quick stuff in (RBs), but still had some 20 yard type tosses. I would dearly love to see OU operate that slick (I know Sam is not the QB, but Riley’s O won’t be running against pro D’s either).

        • Daddy R says:

Damn he looked good in those highlights. LOVED seeing him bounce up from that hit on the second TD.

  • Jesse says:

De La Salle (Calif) vs. Trinity (TX) should kick off around at 10 pm. Been under lightning delay.

    • Jesse says:

Not sure if it’ll still be on ESPN 2 or not but ESPN 300 DL and Sooners offer Chris Daniels plays for trinity.

    • BleedCrimson says:

Getting ready to start at 9:30 on ESPiN2

      • EasTex says:

Hope I can hang, otherwise the dvr will have to do.

        • BleedCrimson says:

Same here. My morning normally starts about 4am. I am not gonna make it much longer.

          • EasTex says:

I don’t have to get up early on Sunday, but have gotten a lot of things done today, had a nice dinner and dessert so the fade is with me.

        • Zack says:

Eastex you may have to educate me on this but the quick set prior to the snap by de la salle has got to be a loose interpretation of the rules right? They have the whole offense set for a half second then snap the ball.

          • EasTex says:

They call that a “rolling start” and apparently use that in cali. This game is supposed to be played with NCAA rules so they are getting away with it for some reason.

          • Zack says:

It looks illegal for sure. Isn’t it that each player has to set for at least “a two count” or something like that.

          • EasTex says:

I don’t know how the rules are stated, but pretty certain that what DLS is doing is not the NCAA rule.

          • Lesslie Stanford says:

It is legal in Oklahoma, or atlas it was 4 years ago when I was playing. We played against a team that did it. And watched another team or two on film that did it.

    • RBear says:

      • JB says:

Ok, thanks! I kept looking up scores and I knew the game started a while ago, i knew it was being played in Euless ( r Euseless as we called when I worked in Bedford…haha), so i figured it was over by now.

        • Clint Lenard says:

It’s actually being played in Mansfield. If I would’ve known I would be there. From Cali, but live in south arlington these days. That stadium is literally right down the street.

          • OceanDescender says:

I remember playing in newsome stadium from my MHS football days so I was tempted to go back and watch the really good teams play some ball last night until reports of hail started coming in.

          • Clint Lenard says:

I had to drive through the rain yesterday from Burleson to Arlington. That might have been the worst rain I’ve driven through. 35 was flooded within minutes. Had to pull to the side because I couldn’t see anything. But hey, we finally got rain.

          • EasTex says:

Meanwhile, here in Far North Dallas I’m looking out the window and scratching my head when they announce a weather delay.
            Never even saw a cloud.

          • Clint Lenard says:

Arlington had some sprinkles, but the rain was done by the time I got close to the Miller factory near 35 and 20. South of that was a nightmare. Stayed south of 20.

          • EasTex says:

If we don’t get some rain in my area soon the foundation repair people are going to be very busy.

          • OceanDescender says:

Ouch, yeah those black as night storms are certainly the eeriest but the rain was definitely MUCH appreciated haha.

          • JB says:

Ah not familiar with that stadium. When I worked in Bedford, there was a stadium across the street from my clinic on Central Drive, where Hurst LD. Bell and Euless Trinity played…Pennington field? It’s been since ’96 that I worked there, and since then I’ve been by there once. I don’t have much reason to go back, and it’s not like the Mid-Cities are a garden spot destination. When I lived in thw Metroplex I lived in Flower Mound, the same city my sister lived in. I moved back here in January ’97. A few years later, she bought a house in Lantana, and after her divorce, bought a house in Preston Hollow. So, whenever I visit the area, I’m nowhere near H-E-B or Arlington.

          • J J says:

In past years, the PPV broadcast was re-aired free on one of the Fox sports channels on Sunday. I always waste the 40 bucks because I am such and A.D.D. OU fan – and they say “You can’t take it with you.”

        • J J says:

I oddly wont be at the game which is gonna kill me. I will prolly be good & fighting mad about missing by the time the pathetic game I will be at kicksoff. Ugh, Looking forward to the trip, but hating the idea of missing OU. Hopefully the trip to Tenn will make up for it,.

        • RocketCitySooner says:

When I was at OU in the sixties, we sang it:
          “Rah, Oklahoma. Rah, Oklahoma. 3.2”

          Is it still the same?

    • rphokc says:

not just ou, but cfb in general………sec and pac will be interesting and later for big 12-2……..wouldn’t mind seeing harbaugh get knocked off th nite ……..and go chippewas!

  • JB says:

Where in the hell is my “BOOM!”? Two weekends in a row without a BOOM! are too many.

  • Tipman says:

    AD rockin the OU bling

  • Boom says:

Haven’t read through the 400+ posts so this may have been said. Louisville is doing a $55 million expansion of their football stadium to reach 65k seats plus suites. This is the same school the Big 12 didn’t want. Same school the year they weren’t picked went to a BCS bowl only to crush Florida. Both men’s & women’s basketball teams reached the finals and Men’s winning it and to top it off, their baseball team was runner up in the CWS.
I don’t understand the lack of vision by the Big 12.

    • albsooner says:

Totally agree. When you look at how they finish in athletics, they have consistently finished very high in the Capital One Cup (which ranks how schools perform across all sports ).

Very disappointing for the B12 indeed.

Now the ship has sailed, and they are very happy in the ACC. It is a better fit and better conference, so it worked out for them in the end.

    • Zack says:

Biggest mistake IMO was passing on Louisville and Pittsburg a few years back now. Those 2 would have been better additions that what is remaining now and both would have created rivalries for West Virginia who geographically still doesn’t fit.

    • Cam says:

Yup, biggest mistake ever. Louisville has a very passionate (and very wealthy) fan base that has been constantly improving their entire athletic footprint. They have championship level baseball, basketball, and soccer programs along with a football program that’s continually improving.

  • Daryl says:

By the way if any of you are in the Massachusetts area there is an OU fan watch party at McGreevys Pub in Boston. There are also watch parties already planned for Tennessee and Tulsa too. There is a OU Boston Sooners group on Facebook. I can’t wait to go to one!

    • Sooner 76 says:

There’s also an OU Club in the Wash DC area. They meet for the games at a pub in Alexandria.

    • J J says:

We saw a guy in the Canbury Burial grounds in Boston 3 years ago in their Boomah Soonah shirt. My 5 year old yelled Boomer about 10 times at him 🙂 but I would sell a kidney to get one of the shirts!

  • Sooner 76 says:

Don’t know if this was posted way below, apologize if it was, but Trent is set to sign the largest contract ever awarded an OL in the NFL with Washington.

OK, Bedenbaugh, another tool for recruiting for Offensive Line University. Just Wait On It.

  • Walter Sobcek says:

Sam Bradford was razor sharp against Packers last night. If he stays healthy, the Cowboys better watch out for the Eagles. I hate having two great former Sooners playing for a team I’ve always despised.

  • BleedCrimson says:

LLWS Championship game is on and the bats are on fire!!!

  • Walter Sobcek says:

So, I finally heard ESPN (good for Herbstreit) admit that the SEC’s dreadful bowl record last season is an indication that their dominance was overrated. So then, of course, Lee “where am I?” Corso chimes in that the SEC could have two two teams in the playoffs. Good grief.

    • OceanDescender says:

Corso followed that up with “or none.” Looks like he’s going boom or bust with the SEC this season. A scenario where one sec team makes the playoff is no longer allowed haha.

  • SamSooner says:

Thanks. K! So. Is this a weekend BOOM!?

  • Jordan Esco says:

    Update added

  • OceanDescender says:

    So for Eboh, we can get a half-Denzel at the moment? We’re at a B_ _ M?

  • ToatsMcGoats says:

He’d better do it before Fear the Walking Dead comes on.

    • EasTex says:

Don’t know what time that is, but if it’s during “The Last Ship” and “Falling Skies” I’ll find out later.
      /8-10 Central

      • ToatsMcGoats says:

        It’s 8 central.

        • EasTex says:

          Okay.
I should state I have no interest in this era’s zombie shows, the zombie genre was perfected by George Romero decades ago.

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

Well, he started it. He shoulda finished it! 😉 Also, I can’t really speak for Fear the Walking Dead just yet, but if you’re missing The Walking Dead, well, I just feel sorry for you…

          • EasTex says:

Watched about five minutes of it…meh.

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

I always knew you were one in a million!

          • EasTex says:

I will say this, the cable networks have been doing a good job in recent years cranking out some excellent series.
Tonight is the series finale of “Falling Skies” after a good run.

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

I started watching that on Netflix a few weeks ago. I’m gonna hold off until it’s all available. I can’t say that I’ve ever witnessed Noah Wyle play a bad part.

          • EasTex says:

It’s the big Hoe-Down Show-Down tonight with the overlord of all overlords.

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

I’ll probably end up flipping over there and ruining it for myself…I’m weak like that.

          • Kelsta says:

Big Falling Skies fan. I was a bit disappointed last night. Actually, the entire season hasn’t felt right. The last two episodes felt really rushed, almost like they were forced to wrap things up quickly.

          • EasTex says:

            I know what you mean.
I could have done without seeing Pope again.
But, at least we won and they didn’t leave us hanging.

          • Zack says:

It’s the best show on TV. Greg nicotero (sp?) is pretty good at the zombie design. If I’m not mistakened he learned from one of romero’s guys.

          • EasTex says:

            It’s been done…to death.
Burned out on the zombies, vampires, werewolves.

          • Walter Sobcek says:

Yes, but wait till you see what’s next: zombie vampire NAZIS! They’re scary monsters with a scary ethos. I’ll be watching that one under the covers.

          • Boomer4life says:

            Really. ..? Smh

          • EasTex says:

Yes, and I want those 5 minutes back, too. 🙂

          • Boomer4life says:

            Lol!

    • Zack says:

      Damn that’s the truth

    • SamSooner says:

Jordan/K, please tell Eboh he needs to accommodate Toats and give us that BOOM! we’re looking for.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

They didn’t ever release a depth chart did they?

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

C’mon Eboh reserve your spot. Don’t sleep on it as Coach Cooks said.

  • Mike Reed says:

The long wait for the season to begin…..It’s over!!

    https://youtu.be/nMLHPnxkOwA?t=3m22s

    • Walter Sobcek says:

Now, was that painful reminder of bad headband rock really necessary? I’m going to need two full albums of Ted Nugent and a Zeppelin chaser just to wipe that song and image from my mind today.

  • Mike Reed says:

Did Chris Daniels release his top 5 today?

    • EasTex says:

Just checked his twitter, still no word. He said in his post game interview last night he would announce it today.

  • Jeff says:

So would OU turn down Jordan Parker?

    • ccmosaic says:

no. OU would find a place for him. But we are filling up fast so , guys better reserve their spot.

      • Sooner 76 says:

Why do you think OU would take yet another CB? OU has 8 this year, none graduate, and already have 2 verbals. Eboh would make 3. Parker would make 12 CBs for next year. Not gonna happen, even if you expect Sanchez to go pro and 1 or 2 to transfer, that’s plenty.

The first one to commit takes the last spot; that’s why Eboh is thinking of committing already.

  • Chris White says:

I probably missed it but has there been a depth chart released yet?

  • SoonerFan16 says:

Any chance Eboh makes it up to Norman after his game in Tulsa on Friday?

  • Mike Reed says:
