In a statement released Tuesday evening, Bob Stoops announced that sophomore defensive tackle Marquise Overton will miss the rest of the 2016 season after undergoing foot surgery earlier that same day.
While the loss of a talented player like Overton is never a good thing, the Sooners are fortunate in that depth along the defensive line does not look to be an issue (/knocks on wood).

Feel bad for Que. Hope he recovers quickly with no lingering effects
deserves a medical redshirt. looks like a big time player for us. sucks this happened to the kid
He SHOULD get one. If I remember right from the 2013 season with Corey Nelson not getting a medical redshirt was because he got hurt in the fourth game. I remember the talk was that three games was kinda the magic number/cutoff for a medical redshirt. Jason White played two games in 2002 and got one. NEVER know with the NCAA though..
25% or less of the regular season games – pretty much means 3 games so you’re correct on all of those situations. The only caveat is it must be clearly proven to be a season ending injury.

Does he have to use his “regular” redshirt ?
Yes, but he can’t use that this year. 1 snap and no redshirt.
he can get a medical redshirt since he hasn’t played in a majority of games this year. If he did play against Houston he can’t redshirt but he can medical redshirt…then there is hardship if you miss the most of two seasons
True, but I think the NCAA defers that until you actually would use it to decide. It’s not an automatic thing, like a regular redshirt.
I think if Q comes on like he’s capable of, he won’t use any redshirt anyway. He’s definitely got NFL size and athleticism. But it’s nice to know he’ll almost certainly get one if he does stay long enough.
You are correct. Wish MO the very best
Its the medical hardship that has you guessing with the ncaa…the medical redshirt is pretty straight forward. If he doesn’t play anymore this year (like the article states) he will get a medical redshirt…same as w a redshirt…you dont get it until the end of the year when you dont actually play. It looks like he is done so he will get that MR
Interesting. Thanks for that. I didn’t ever pick up that distinction.

Has to be a medical and he easily qualifies for it.
Well if your looking for positives…we now have another stud coming in next year with 3 years to play and 2 extra years with smitty
Heal fast young man.
Get well soon young man.
Wasn’t long ago that DL depth was a huge problem.. Get well Que!
Get well MO, expecting to still see 3 years from this young man.

Get healed up Q. Work as hard as you did to get here and you’ll be fine.
I think his run stopping and pocket collapsing ability will be sorely missed no matter how deep we may be.
agree with you…………
Do you agree we have enough depth on the DL to win on Saturday?
I don’t know .
Another question would be will the players suspended come back with their hair on fire and ready to play?
Keep your head up Que!! Does this open up more playing time for gallimore?
Do we know what happened? I didn’t even know he was hurt.
Well that’s a bummer. We need all hands on deck no matter how deep we are. Every guy in the rotation helps. Get healed up right Q and come back next year ready to own the opposition.
Well, that suQs
Hopefully he comes back stronger
More snaps for Gallimore please
Q was in the middle, and Big Canada the end. So he wasn’t taking snaps from Gallimore.
I’m pretty darn sure you’re going to get your wish, too. Gallimore was very impressive, even against a lessor opponent. And with tOSU’s size in the trenches, we absolutely need our biggest boys in there a lot.
Oh that’s right. Looking forward to seeing him play again.
Oh that’s right. Looking forward to seeing him play again.
I hope the staff agrees with you.
That’s the question. There are times when the TFB posters have a consensus but it is exactly the opposite of what the Stoops do!
I mean is it a case of a player showing out in a game, then happens to make mistakes the following week during practice that eliminates playing time for the following week? There have been players who just don’t focus as well during practice but kill it in game time.
I’ll take the game day gamer every single time. Imo, it’s one of Stoops weaknesses.
“Practice? You’re talking about practice? Practice?”

Man, really hate to hear this for big Q. Prayers for full healing and return stronger than ever.
Absolutely.
Only positive I can see in the timing of this is OU hasn’t played 25% of its schedule yet so he qualifies for a medical red shirt. With Wade or Romar gone after this season 2017 would see the return of one of them and Q as our only experienced nose guards.
Pretty sure Jordan Wade is a RS Senior. He came in with Jordan Phillips.
I knew one of them was a red shirt senior but didn’t know which one. That means aware has another year left.

Interesting side note for the game this weekend
Dang it. Was really hoping for a break out season from him.
So two guys out for the season.
Such is football
Man, not sure what’s more depressing. This news or the mood of the mods in the Town Hall.
Anybody know if he Can get a medical red shirt for this year since he hasn’t played much?
