Bob Stoops announced Tuesday, via the program’s official Twitter account, that wide receiver Derrick Woods “has been removed from team indefinitely for violation of team rules.”
. @OU_CoachStoops indicates reserve WR Derrick Woods "has been removed from team indefinitely for violation of team rules."

Woods has missed a majority of the 2014 season with an injury. However, prior to the injury there were expectations he could break into the receiver rotation. Mainly due to his highlight-reel catch against Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, but also because he was an athletic guy with good hands and speed.
It’s an unfortunate development for a once promising player.

Wow! Hurts us at a position already needing help.
Considering how our QBs are throwing the ball, it unfortunately won’t cause much drop off in production.
If DGB plays next year I think he will make any of our QB’s look like studs.
Well I was afraid something like this was coming! Seems like had to be some of this brewing behind the scenes with the additional interest in 2015 WR and offers going out to a position that on the surface seemed packed full. With Cavil gone, DGB probably moving on to the NFL, Andrews moving to TE (maybe), and Woods suspended we do have openings for some playmakers at WR now. Hope we can sign some great replacements!
Makes that JUCO pick-up even more important!
Called this the other day. The Juco signing pretty much meant somebody was leaving. Now we know who.
I still think you see DGB in a Sooner uni next year.
Sadly, with no QB to get him the ball. I miss the days of Sammy and Jason.
And LJ.
He didn’t have the “It” factor like the other two but at least he could complete passes.
Yeah the Sun Bowl and the Insight Bowl were fun huh?
I think LJs accuracy passing, behind a line that gave up only 6 sacks all year, might have won us an extra game or two.
Let’s not do this…
It only makes the JUCO pickup important if he can actually play. Seems to me the last few years we have had a lot bark and not much bite from our receivers.
Really? We had two stud receivers that helped the team a lot last year and both were juco guys. Also what about Brown? Not a Judo but a transfer. I think we have done well with Juco WR.
Brown and Saunders were not JUCO WR’s. Lacolton was and I agree he was very consistent. But I am not talking about JUCO WR’s but WR’s in general. Example Shepherd, Neal, and woods were supposed be on of the best WR recruiting classes in nation. Shep has been great Neal has not done much and woods has one highlight. Smallwood, Cavil, and so on. I am just saying for the hype that has come with a lot of these guys I think we would all agree that currently we have one legit WR and rest are just here. That’s all I was saying.
And the biggest recruit of all: Metoyer.
Speaking of P’s.O.S….The line starts here.
Say what?
SoonerfanTU, he’s not “leaving”. He got kicked off b/c he’s a thief/burglar/P.O.S. human being. The dude stole a ton of stuff from Shep and Durron. Don’t feel bad for this guy one bit.
not challenging you, but do you know this personally? I’m curious.
The facts were revealed on another site. Apparently he was already flunking out of school, but this incident expedited his dismissal. He stole a bunch of shoes and stuff while Durron and Shep were gone on Thanksgiving break.
Been reading that, what a POS. Apparently goes way back like a lifelong habit.
Well I guess we shoulda known after that snag last January dude had sticky fingers
That’s a good one Colfax! lol Had a roommate do that to me my freshman year of college. I evicted him straight to a no expenses paid trip to the infirmary though. I got kicked out of the dorm over it and it was damn well worth it.
Your next roommate probably stayed on his side of the room, I’ll bet.
Yeah, and never liked the dorm anyway. My next roommate was a guy I played football with in high school and we’ve remained lifelong friends.
Sticky fingers indeed but must have a fumbling problem, read he dropped the TV on his way out the door.
Thanks for the reply. What a shame.
I don’t disagree with general rhetoric to getting him kicked out, but POS human being? Maybe its just me, but I reserve that title for the Ray Rices, FamousJameis, heck even Demarco’s (if true was waay worse)
Dude definitely made a bad choice, hope he gets his act together.
To each his own but I DESPISE thieves. They’re low-life, lazy, disrespectful P’s. O.S. that clearly hold no regard for others and what they’ve worked hard to earn. I’m not saying go India law on them, but each deserves to be cracked in the face at least once. Second offense, I’m honestly not opposed to cutting hands off. Kind of like rapists. Cut their dicks off, no more rape.
Wait, did Demarco do anything other than sleeping with Clay’s wife?
Sleeping? There were no sleeping going on from what i understand
There are rules for a reason, if you can’t follow you be gone.
Well that’s a shame, but it opens up a spot for the kids that really want to be there and won’t throw it away.
Please football gods let DGB play next year!
He will, but it’ll be in the NFL.
I doubt he’s in college to get an education, so if he’s goin to be a 1st round pick, then he’ll leave.
There is still hope!
It’s been said that he made a promise and a deal to get an opportunity here and his family is going to hold him to it. That is my hope.
He’ll be hard pressed to get any NFL endorsement if he doesn’t keep his word.
That’s what I’m talking about!
He’ll play because there’s no way he’d be a first rounder this year. He’s been out of the game a year and (because) he beat his girlfriend. Just for the latter I still wish we wouldn’t have taken him. Anyway, he needs to prove that he can still play and he needs some serious image rehab, especially in the wake of the Ray Rice scandal. He knows that he’ll cost himself millions if he comes out right now. A good year of production will allay fears that his skill has eroded and it’ll put him two years away from his domestic violence incident. While it is possible he leaves this spring, I think it’s at least 70/30 that he stays.
Tommy Mason Griffin, Tiny Gallon, + hundreds of others in football and basketball……..
Seems like kids who care little about education, think they are good enough to go pro.
DGB knows he has talent, and also probably knows that he’s not a rocket scientist.
I “hope” he stays, but would be quite shocked if he does.
Someone call dahu f****** green right now!!!
I upvote this.
I did not realize that was his middle name.
LOL

Any update on Lodge?
His Cedar Hill team has no small matter to contend with this coming Saturday, they will be facing 13-0 Southlake Carroll in the playoffs.
Thanks. Hopefully, we can get a visit after the playoffs.
No relation to Johnny.
Um, is it too late for me to remove him from my “my guy” picks for this season? call me psychic, but I don’t think that pick is gonna turn out very well…:-)
Who else did you pick??? DGB shannon and mayfield? If so please pass on that thread next year.
Mayfield may be worth a shot good chance he will be ou starting qb next year.
I don’t know I don’t see upside. Serviceable yes but I think he may have one of those games where turnovers kill us.
Then if not mayfield then who.
Well if I had to guess based on the way things currently sit I would say mayfield would start but I’m not as high on him as others. Thomas has bedlam and most likely a bowl game to show some stuff and we could see a tremendous performance in the bowl game like we did last year from knight. If ou wins bedlam and Thomas looks decent or better then has a good bowl game then I think he will start. Unfortunately I think knight may be done. And I wouldn’t know if Hansen would be better than everyone as a RS freshman.
i would think if TK is done, that Thomas will have a very good shot at it. Although he could get a serious leg up with a great performance, I don’t think it will matter nearly as much how he looks the rest of this season as it will how he looks in practice in the spring. (and I don’t mean the spring game…:-)
Well Thomas has one thing going for him. He wears number 14. And to me he looks a lot like Bradford as far as stature so I’m hopeful he can be as accurate. Obviously he can run and while Bradford didn’t run much at all, I think he could have.
Well what are you saying?are we going to have another 4 loss season next year?if we play .Georgia tech in the bowl we will lose that game.then next year we could lose 4 more.if that happen’s sooner nation will Rebel.who every is the qb they better develop fast or this can implode next year and bob stoop’s may be out think not just look at Nebraska and bo Polini.
I don’t think we will lose the bowl game since I don’t even know who the opponent is. And no Georgia tech doesn’t scare me. They’re just a slightly better version of the military schools and Calvin Johnson or demarius ain’t walking through that door.
As far as losses next year who knows. Baylor is the only game I look at right now and say well it would be a miracle to win that game. Osu and ksu will be road games but both will be a year a way from contending. Tennessee is still a year or 2 away from being great but they catch us early when we are replacing 4 on the oline and possibly 5 in the front 7 (hopefully just 2 Grissom and ndulue) then tech, tcu, isu and wvu at home should all be wins and the RRS should be a good one but we should still be better. I would say 10-2 next year I believe that’s what we did in Bradford’s first year starting and I’m betting we will start a guy next year who replecates Bradford’s first season as the starter.
Wish i could share your optimism about next year zack i see more than 2 losses texas will much improved over this year and they should have beat us this year Tennessee is going to be top25 with the young recruits they have.i say we will lose 4 games next year if no qb emerges for ou.
But we were supposed to be an improved team from last year. Just because you have those expectations doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. But I do think a qb will emerge and we may feel better about Thomas after the bowl.
As much as anyone, I hope Thomas gets it going in the passing game and if given a chance, has a bowl game like Knight did BUT, that scenario (in my opinion) puts us right back where we were last year. A QB that struggled a lot but had some nice games at the end of the season to give us hope for the next season. Then you see what has happened with Knight this year when he was healthy. All that to say, I don’t know what to think about the QB position. They’re all very young so hopefully someone really takes some leaps in the offseason!
Maybe its time to move Stanvon to WR
Norvell sucks at landing high school recruits that actually contribute.
Yep. the Sterling guy is a real bust. Oh and don’t even get me started on how useless Stills was…(sarcasm of course).
While I disagree with Ryan, you can’t really credit Norvell for landing Shepard. He was never going anywhere else.
I disagree, as long as he is the WR coach he gets credit for kids (good or bad) under his tutelage.
might be more of a question of development after they arrive…..have seen that mentioned by some serious posters and a couple of the tfb’ers over time……however, there are certainly more reasons why one may/may not pan out
Hmm Westbrook makes sense now. Alot more sense.
Question. Is there a way to know exactly which players are on scholarship and which ones are walk-ons from looking at the roster? I know the limit is 85 but not sure who all is in that 85 and who is a walk-on. Thanks!
I wouldn’t know for sure but I would assume it’s about 83 right now. Cavils and woods should be the only 2 open now but I don’t know if stoops leaves one extra each year which the last one he gave out was to gastelum and that was after Quincy Russell left.
I agree. That’s probably about the right number. I’m just wonder which players are in the 83-85 and which players are walk-ons. I can guess at it but I was curious if there’s a way to know or if that info is G14 classified.
