K’Lavon Chaisson: TFB has spoken to a few sources close to the 2017 LB in the past day or two, and we’ll cut right to the chase. It’s pretty clear that Oklahoma is no longer in the lead for Chaisson after being the presumptive favorite for some time.

One source told TFB, “the main reason is because they (OU) have two guys committed at his position.” It would appear that the addition of both Addison Gumbs and Kenneth Murray has caused Chaisson to look around at some other options. However, I was cautioned by another source who said, “I wouldn’t count out OU just yet.”

Based on information I received from a source, it does sound like Chaisson is currently favoring Texas and LSU. Which was confirmed by Chaisson himself to our friend Eric Nahlin over at Inside Texas.

As previously mentioned on the site, Chaisson’s coach tells TFB that K’Lavon does plan to attend the OU vs. Houston game on Saturday. – (Super K)

New JUCO Safety Offer: Per Demetric Warren of VarsityPreps.com, the Sooners extended an offer to 2017 JUCO safety, Johnathan Abram (Jones County JC).

Abram will be eligible to enroll this upcoming January, and originally signed with and Georgia in the 2015 class. Abram appeared in ten games as a true freshman, but left UGA once coach Mark Richt was relieved of his duties.

I’m told that Abram may be favoring LSU right now, however it’s not clear whether or not the Tigers will have room in their 2017 class. TFB plans to check in with Abram to see if a visit to Norman is in the works.

The Sooners will lose at least one of their safety starters, Ahmad Thomas, after this season and the possibility certainly exists that Steven Parker could leave early for the NFL. It would appear Oklahoma is working to ensure they have some healthy competition at the safety position for 2017 and beyond. – (Super K)

Team Note | Suspensions: I checked with a couple sources and OU fans will be happy to hear that, as of now, it looks like there are no expected starters out on suspension for the season opener. We checked because it seems like one of those things that tends to happen, then we’re all left wondering why so-and-so didn’t start and/or play only to find out in the postgame from Stoops that player was suspended.

However, in checking on this TFB was told there is one OU offensive lineman who has been suspended for six games. That player was not among those included on the depth chart released earlier this week — although the suspension could explain why — so while certainly disappointing, it is not expected to have much of an impact on the field. – (Super K)

Team Note | Charles Walker: Yesterday, a TFB reader in the comment section noted hearing that starting DE Charles Walker has been ill. So TFB checked in with a source to follow up and was told that as of last night, Walker was indeed still not feeling well and running a fever.

Let me be clear, I am NOT reporting that Walker is out for the Houston game. Let me repeat, I am NOT reporting that Walker is out for the Houston game (apologies for the repetition but it’s always shocking to me how many times what we write is misinterpreted, and then that very misinterpretation is offered up to others as something we reported when in fact nothing could be further from the truth).

Players can play with/through a mild cold or flu (obviously), and by the time kickoff rolls around Walker could easily feel much better. But again, I can confirm the reader’s comment that Walker was still dealing with an illness/fever as of last night. – (Super K)

Jalen Preston: Per our Andrew King, 2018 WR Jalen Preston (Manvel, TX) will be in attendance at the OU/Houston game. Preston holds an offer from Oklahoma.
