OU Practice & Bowl Prep Related Notes (Updated Mon. 9:53 am)

Image via Sooner Sports

If you’ve spent anytime online of late, you know team related notes from this bowl season have been a little sparse. And we are still digging for some additional info we hope to have later tonight or tomorrow. But, for now, here’s a few quick notes we’ve been able to track down:

– First name that has come up as someone who has stood out thus far is true freshman cornerback, Jordan Thomas. This really doesn’t come as much of a surprise since he’s a young guy who was just starting to get some reps during the season, but it sounds like he’s had some nice practices leading up to the bowl game. We had a source tell us they didn’t see Thomas get beat a single time during the reps they witnessed.

– Not sure how his bowl practice has been, but we talked to a friend who worked with Marcus Green just before the trip (this person also trained Green some in high school) and was really impressed with the jump the OU true fresman has made during his first year in Norman.

Before the season, we were told that Marcus was someone who came in and really surprised the coaches. And even though he would eventually redshirt, he got a number of early reps in fall camp. It sounds like he continues to develop, which is always welcome news when you’re playing in the Big 12 and need to have at least four or five legit cover guys.

– A lot of what we heard about practice as of late hasn’t been contact based. It’s been more walk through, special teams, and 3rd down/goal line situations. Which is not to say the team has done no contact work, rather we just don’t have any info on that particular part of practices at this time.

– No surprise necessarily, but we’ve been told that the defensive line was consistently rotating two full groups, despite the scare with backup NG, Matthew Romar. You know Jerry Montgomery is going to have depth to run out there. Haven’t heard much on the young guys though as it sounds like most of the reps are going to the first and second team groups.

– Along those same lines, we’re told the LBs and DBs have been somewhat similar with most of the reps going to the 1’s. Some of the younger guys got in for a few situations but being as those groups substitute less and are already kind of young to begin with, it’s probably to be expected that the 2nd and 3rd team guys didn’t get a ton of reps. We’re trying to figure out if any of the young LBs stood out like Tay Evans or Curtis Bolton, but again we’ve heard their reps would have been limited.

– We did receive one not so pleasant not regarding practices, but we’d definitely advise you to take it with a healthy grain of salt as it’s just the opinion of one individual. But this person felt the intensity just wasn’t particularly high in practice. Our source said, in their opinion, it felt like a lot of guys just didn’t necessarily seem like they wanted to be there.

Whether that’s true or not, one would have to think that these players going into the season with such lofty goals and instead finding themselves in a middle or upper middle bowl is a bit of a let down.

– We are also trying to find out if Taylor McNamara made it out for the bowl game. We were told a couple months back that he was seeking and received approval to transfer. If he made it to the bowl game, however, then hopefully that means there could be a chance he changed his mind about leaving.

UPDATE (3:01 pm): We have been able to confirm that Taylor McNamara did indeed make the trip to Orlando.

UPDATE (3:03 pm): We are also told that Samaje Perine is looking good so far in bowl practices. We figured we’d note this because he had the injury at the end of the season. But it sounds like it isn’t bothering him.

UPDATE (Mon., 9:53 am): We got a few more notes from another source. His take on the bowl season practices are that he hasn’t really seen a lot of guys standing out. That isn’t to say people aren’t necessarily playing well…he just means no one has really separated themselves. He did go on to mention that Parker has had some pretty good bowl practices and also mentioned Jordan Thomas. He said that Thomas still has a ways to go but will be really good in time. Also, noted that Bond has been looking better and better rushing the passer but as expected he is struggling a bit when he’s asked to drop in coverage. The more we talk to folks the more we get the sense that there isn’t necessarily some unknown name person that is just blowing people’s minds at the moments. It’s really more the young guys you expect to be growing like Parker, Perine, Thomas, etc.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

I’ve been seeing Sooner Dave in some bowl practice photos.. You think he’ll be back or no?

    • Jordan Esco says:

I’d be pretty surprised. Can’t blame him for wanting to play, obviously.

      • OUn8v says:

I was hoping to see Sooner Dave in bedlam after Perine went down.

        • Zack says:

We may have won had he been the 3rd running back and not Alex Ross. They don’t use their players in ways to make them successful and sooner Dave would have been better at running between the tackles like perine.

          • hOUligan says:

With ‘only’ 5 backs on the roster and 1 incoming, Anderson, we saw how the top 3 got banged up throughout the season. Hope he stays and maybe is able to move up the depth chart in spring. If he doesn’t, maybe gone along with MacNamara.

  • Zack says:

In regards to the “intensity” comment…I kind of get that feeling as I haven’t heard much about practices. And it seems like the players were given quite a bit of time off, I didn’t see many updates about practice prior to the team getting to Orlando and then they took a day and a half at least to be “tourists” so we will have to see what team shows up tomorrow.

    • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

I’m getting a 2013 Cotton Bowl vibe. Season of embarrassing losses. Lower-tier bowl than originally expected. Familiar face on the opposing sideline (this time Brent Venables). The expectation to come out on top on paper.

And then a great, golden turd. Right down our leg on onto the field. Plop!

      • Zack says:

That’s a good comparison, I don’t think Clemson is that good to blow us out.

        • Super K says:

Agree. I think Clemson can beat OU but I don’t think they can beat the pants off the Sooners. Not sure which way I’m leaning yet on this game but definitely don’t see a blow out.

          • Zack says:

The only way this game becomes a blow out is if OU plays to their maximum ability. I don’t think that will happen with knight, perine and shepherd banged up.

    • JD says:

Will we get a pass like Bama did…doubt it

      • Zack says:

The only ones who won’t give OU a pass is the local media. The national guys forgot about this team after the baylor game.

    • Okie4Life says:

The team had regular practices in Norman through Friday, Dec. 19. They were off Saturday, Sunday, and Monday to celebrate Christmas with their families, then traveled to Orlando on Tuesday, Dec. 23. Not really “quite a bit” of time off. Most of the “tourist” activities were part of scheduled bowl activities, and the team also had practices on those days. Maybe someone is seeing a lack of intensity, but your take on their lack of practice time is totally false.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Thanks for that. I was wondering about the time off.

      • Zack says:

Were those full practices though? Many of the coaches were on the recruiting trail from December 7-15. So that would be 16-19th of full participation coaches included.

        • Okie4Life says:

Wouldn’t Clemson coaches be on the same recruiting schedule? Hence, the same type of practice limitations? Not trying to argue–your original point was that they weren’t practicing.

          • Zack says:

I’m sure they were on a similar schedule. But to me it looks like maybe 6 or 7 full days of practice over a 3 week period. And maybe 6 or 7 days of light practice. I’m sure that’s normal though.

      • Sooners W says:

Don’t let the facts get in the way of a good rumor.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I would like to know the history of Stoops and bowl practices vis a vis “tourist” time. Could there be a link to our defeats in bowl games?

  • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Really don’t want to see McNamara go. I keep hoping he’s going to break out on the scene. If the rumors are true that he is indeed seeking a transfer, who’s rising to the top of the TE depth chart?

Whatever he decides, best of luck to him.

    • Sooner Ray says:

It may not be competition for position as much as the current OC not using the TE much in scheme.

      • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

I was afraid of that. Man, I hate that for McNamara. So much potential just sitting on the sidelines.

        • Zack says:

And he’s one of those kids who was rumored to be homesick early on as a freshman.

          • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Ah. And if I’m not mistaken, a little soft in his blocking. Still, the kid has such soft hands.

      • ND52 says:

Seeing a depth chart with “TE” listed on it would kinda be like looking through the Sooner playbook and getting excited when you come to the page marked “zone-read”: sure it looks nice but are you really expecting to see it in real life?

        • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Gone are the days of Jackson and of Gresham. Hope that changes next year. Of course, we’ve said that for several years now.

          • ND52 says:

I’ve never seen an OC who’s as blind to his own player’s strengths and weaknesses as this guy we have now.

          • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Exactly. It just kills me that anyone sees how much success this offense (and others) had with a weapon like Gresham, and then insist to shove a square peg in a round hole. What’s the definition of insanity again?

That’s a trick question. The answer is Heupel as OC.

          • ND52 says:

Just goes to show that playing the game and coaching the game are two different things completely.

Mike Leach for example: never played a down yet is regarded as one of the foremost experts in the modern passing game.

          • ND52 says:

I think you mean a rhetorical question but I totally get what you’re saying.

      • hOUligan says:

Not much but Bell has made a difference at the position this year. I hate it for Mac, but when a guy that has never played the position passes you, there’s a problem. If he isnt at the top of the depth chart after spring, I would expect him to move on.

        • rphokc says:

think there might have been some favoritism for bell over tmac due to his loyalty when he decided to stay?

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

T MAC didn’t make a difference in 2013 when Bell was the QB.

          • hOUligan says:

Wouldn’t say there wasn’t, but no doubt he was effective. You don’t find the field with this staff if you don’t block whether you’re a TE, RB, or WR. He blocked well and caught the ball when it was thrown his way. Don’t recall but a couple of balls he had his hands on that he didn’t pull in. Could have utilized him much more since other receivers were having trouble getting ‘open’ or catching the ball.

      • Boom says:

Based on results, JH doesn’t value a TE. JH puts one in there to please BS. BS vision is a TE/HBack whereas JH vision is 4 WR spread. JH would rather pass 70 – 75% of the time. This is JH’s comfort zone but he adds BS plan and the two don’t mesh which is why we don’t have an offensive identity.

        • SoonerfanTU says:

I don’t agree with that. Anywhere you can see the number of snaps a guy took on the season? Bell was out there quite a bit.

      • Shelby is a Patriot says:

We definitely didn’t use Bell as well as we could have.

    • JD says:

my guess is we’ll see some Isaac Igulianna (murdered that sp..juco last year) and young guys like Mier and Andrews taking reps next year

  • kt-raida says:

We can’t use that “not wanting to be there excuse ” if we didn’t allow Bama to.

    • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

If (heaven forbid) we lose and someone uses that excuse, I will refer them to this site. TFB keeps it real. And as everyone knows, keeping it real is the only remedy for a bad case of the douchebaggery.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Yes and no. Big difference between the Sugar Bowl and the Russell Athletic Bowl. And Bama sure looked good on their first few drives of the game.

      • CastorTroyBoy says:

We did too versus USC, etc…Look what happened?? Anybody can get jump on anyone at the start of a game. It is how u finish or bluntly when you a bully and you find the one that will fight you back how do you react? That is one of my biggest problems with Stoops coached teams. There fight is never equal to their bite. We bite hard and fast but as soon as we get someone standing up to us we crawl away looking all defeated…

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

So is that what Bama did? Give freakin credit where credit is due! OU punched them in the mouth in the first half correct? In the third quarter, Bama stopped us cold. But in the fourth OU made enough plays to hold off a good Bama team. If you know the history of CFB, when a team does not show up in a bowl game they usually get blown out e.g. Utah over Bama…not a close game. But the Sugar bowl was close. Hence, you can conclude that Bama was trying, at least in the second half. But OU was better.

        • Jason Rudd says:

True. Except, Bama was firing on all cylinders in the 2nd half as well. We just straight up outplayed them.

    • DT says:

Thank you! I have been reading about this way too much on TFB. Some OU fans are using it because its to their convenience and its very hypocritical.

  • Sooner 4Ever says:

” First name that has come up as someone who has stood out thus far is true freshman cornerback, Jordan Thomas. This really doesn’t come as much of a surprise since he’s a young guy who was just starting to get some reps during the season, but it sounds like he’s had some nice practices leading up to the bowl game. We had a source tell us they didn’t see Thomas get beat a single time during the reps they witnessed.” TFB

That shouldn’t surprise anyone… our receivers make every DB look like Deon Sanders. LOL

  • CastorTroyBoy says:

KT-raida, speak for yourself! I’ll go to my grave knowing Bama did’nt have their minds right nor their best effort that day. If we played now they beat us by 45….Not trying to start nuthing so don’t start that…One longtime Sooners opinion and I know when a team is wanting to be there or just saying the right things…Sorry if that hurts some koolaid stoops lovers on here but they should get used to it….

    • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Stop letting your cat walk on your keyboard. Or else people might think that nonsensical garble is actually a troll attempt.

    • Tmac says:

      What did u even say?

      • CastorTroyBoy says:

I said they whip are asses, that the short answer. If you want the long version learn how to read dummy!

        • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Wow the irony of that statement.

        • boomersooner says:

Before telling someone to learn to read, try it for yourself. It would be “our” not “are”. Try this…your act is stale, tired, lacking. Moving to Houston does not a braggards life make

        • Tmac says:

          Learn how to write, maybe?

          • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

Let me translate: “Me said Bama there not with minds in right. There effurt weren’t so good either. You all like too much koolaid, but that hurts feelings of yours. That your fault. Why you no not read this well?”

            Do this help?

          • Sooner Ray says:

Why couldn’t he just say it that clear to begin with?

          • boomersooner says:

Well said except you forgot to say bubbas several hundred times

          • CastorTroyBoy says:

            BUBBAS BUBBAS BUBBAS…! HAPPY?

    • j l says:

You are welcome to your opinion, though it would be wrong.

OU and bama played 2 common opponents this year, OU beat WVU and Tenn worse than bama did.

No way bama beats us by 45. Bama gave up 630 yards to auburn, they are nothing special defensively.

    • Stephen says:

Can you go to your grave a little bit faster?

  • CastorTroyBoy says:

Robertson are you a fool? You sound like you been in Okie land all your life. Become worldly then get back to me…

    • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

worldly |ˈwərldlē|adjective ( -lier , -liest )of or concerned with material values or ordinary life rather than a spiritual existence : his ambitions for worldly success.• (of a person) experienced and sophisticated.

You’re from Bammie alright. English language just gets away from you. Just slow down and noodle it a bit.

  • CastorTroyBoy says:

Keep it coming Bubbas, If we lose I’ll be tearing you bubbas a new one…

  • Jordan Esco says:

As I understand it, K should be addressing our little troll friend here.

    • Billy Jackson says:

      That would be great.

    • Boomer4life says:

      Awesome!!!!!!

    • Sooner Ray says:

If you don’t take out the trash, you end up with a fly problem.

      • Perry Dickey says:

Appreciate the analogy. I’ve been out for family time and come back home to TFB and the place stinks of old forums. The main word in The FOOTBALL Brainiacs is of course football. If this my internet piss stream goes farther than yours ideology takes hold here I’m sad. Loved being able to come here and get football news, football responses, football entertainment. Not frickin know it all opinions.

        • EasTex says:

Some turds are always looking for a punch bowl.
          Sad, actually.

          • Perry Dickey says:

To qualify what I meant by ‘stinks’ is this. I jumped right in the thread hoping to catch a glimpse of bowl preparation as the title was, and got caught up in post after post of an ignorant pissing contest and never did get to the bottom of the page just gave up. Oh well. I’m gonna watch the game and foam at the mouth regardless.

          • EasTex says:

I hate it when a “stinky” troll hijacks a thread and it’s only possible when others get sucked into his bile.

        • Easton says:

          Second This.

    • EasTex says:

      Which one?

    • SamSooner says:

It would be a Merry Christmas, indeed.

      • CastorTroyBoy says:

Merry Christmas with a New Computer New Year????LOL

        • cpearc00 says:

If you need a new computer to get behind a ban then you don’t have the computer skills you claim to have.

          • CastorTroyBoy says:

Not new computer my uninformed or sadly mindless bubba. But a new ip can be established anytime anywhere…

          • cpearc00 says:

Oh, my mistake. The part where you said “New Computer” must have thrown me off…IP address is spelled similarly…

    • Sooner Ray says:

Seems the ban hammer is broken.

    • CastorTroyBoy says:

Not a troll at all chief. Jordan you are a homer and you have accepted to status quo. You and it appears the rest on here will stoop at nothing to have a bunch of followers dancing to that ole’ tune. Ban me my man, feel free knock yourself out. It will change nothing. If I need to get my point across to the mindless Esco followers I will. There are plenty of computers…..

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Being new to this site, I think you are off base a bit. I have found this site to be highly critical of BS. Perhaps too critical for my taste. But they back it up with legitimate questions. I think you want OU to be doing what Bama has been doing, so do the people on this site. It’s not as simple as saying fire the coach.

      • Jordan Esco says:

I’m a homer that has accepted the status quo?

        That’s priceless.

    • Doobie74OU says:

Good I’m ready for Caster Oil to move on to greener pastures!

  • James D-Space says:

  • EasTex says:

We will find out what their state of mind is this time tomorrow.
The players and coaches have numerous motivations to win.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

Apparently Barnett has Nebraska & OK St. as his top 2…

    • rphokc says:

      ..source?

    • hOUligan says:

Hoping it is an indication that another OG named Wariboko is coming. But I tend towards optimism by nature.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

We have to get one or the other right?

        • JD says:

No..we already have a good OL group in the fold. I’m sure the coaches would accept one of them but we’re pretty full at the position and coaches prob quit recruiting them hard..especially with Barnett since all of a sudden its Neb and Osu when it had been a two horse race between us and Arky all season long

        • Zack says:

Some think the lsu commit is the mystery recruit. Then wariboko and maybe a couple other targets if wariboko goes to ucla

    • Hotrod33 says:

Barnett waited to long to commit to us. He had to know that space was filling up with the ol guys that were committing to us and he still sat on his hands to do anything. If he truly liked OU then he should of committed a long time ago. Wish him the best but we have to move on.

      • Zack says:

For Barnett, reality finally caught up with him. Super K (I believe) said wariboko was over valuing his hand since he was a guard and not a tackle. And that is true, the same thing caught up with Barnett the only difference is that wariboko’s play did nothing to drop his stock the way Barnett’s play dropped his stock.

  • John Garner says:

Sorry but little in this report inspires confidence in me. I’m not sure why Taylor made the trip to Orlando unless he’s never been to Florida, but I’d be pleasantly surprised — make that shocked — if we use a TE in our offense vs. Clemson. Sure hate to be a Debbie Downer, but I’ve simply lost faith in our DC and OC. I’m beginning to believe Nick Saban when he said that the Bama kids weren’t excited about playing us in the Sugar Bowl. Hopefully Clemson won’t be either.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Even if a team is said to not be excited to play another team, it is still on them. The Bama players know the history of OU and the talent that comes to Norman. If they took them lightly or are just so disappointed in losing the SEC title, they should still want to play for themselves and beat their opponent, as well as impress scouts and leave something good on tape for scouts. The fact that they didn’t consider these things is on them. That big slow LT didn’t come prepared to block Striker? He not only got embarrassed, but could have cost himself a lot of cash. What Saban can motivate his players? Either way the coach is to blame or the players are. This does not translate to the conclusion Bama would have won. Some teams just don’t match up with others. Hey Bama fan I still see Saunders and Lester running wide open!

      • CastorTroyBoy says:

Laughing at you! If these are the things you pin your hopes on then no wonder this team cannot sniff titles. Holding on to an un-motivated bama victory has not brought this program any closer to elite. Would you like some frosting with those 8-9 wins a year???LOL

        • Doobie74OU says:

The faster this guys posting privileges are revoked the happier a ton of people will be! RIDICULOUS!

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I am not pinning any hopes on a game that was played a year ago. OU has top talent that on any given day can beat the top teams (Bama, FSU, Oregon etc…).

          • CastorTroyBoy says:

True. No argument or need for debate there…Now my only concern is “on any given day. That is not the way Winning titles works. That is an everyday, every play thing! If you’re not focused on winning everyday, believe me those who do are going to defeat you! Fact is Stoops cannot motivate or does not have the know how to come up with a strategy that will put his team in the best possible position to win in a 12 game season. You cannot take weeks off in a 12 game season folks. You just can’t….We look lost because were unprepared, when not prepared you become emotionally detached from the purpose!

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

My point was that OU has the talent to win. If you are suggesting that OU’s current coaches do not have the ability to have a 12-0 season. Perhaps you are correct. Although they did it once. Look, OU fan here since 1973, if Coach Stoops can’t get it done then, yes, OU needs the best coach available. But I think it’s players failing to execute. As I look around CFB, teams like Baylor and USC seem to have faster WR than OU. I mean, is Quick and Neal fast? What are your views about the talent on the current roster? I noticed some personal attacks on this board, I’m not here for that. Just want to talk OU football.

          • CastorTroyBoy says:

I like Quick but he’s not as polished as Adoree, you only have to watch his hs. tape to see that. Also Usc offense is pro style that forces you to learn how to lose people, not look to the sideline and see where numbers are are that best gives you the chance to get open. Like there is a streong rumor going around that our Staff does not teach technique thoroughly. Gerald “HankBeast” McCoy said that last year in comparing Greg Sciano and how he teaches defense to they way Stoops teaches. He was not bashing Stoops really but he just said ” We never really learned how to tackle properly until he learned that from Schiano. If we could get Greg Schiano as Def. Coord. that would be the biggest coup other than Harbaugh at Michigan! When Greg was at Miami his defenses shut down everyone! As far as talent, you can see glaring weaknesses in talent by even comparing USC . Only 54 schollie players and our 85. We need recruiters here I don’t care if they don’t mesh perfectly with Stoops on philosophy! Stoops is so arrogant that he demands anyone who coaches here coach the defense he has coached on. You have to think outside the box but you also have to keep a system of Oklahoma Defense that was here long before Stoops got into coaching. We’ve had some of the greatest defensive minds in College football history to coach here. I’m talking about Larry Lacewell, Jimmy Johnson, Rex Norris, Gary Gibbs, has Stoops even chatted or made any efforts to reach out to our tradition? I don’t care about Just Switzer being allowed to come to a practice but having humbleness to lose pride and confer with our tradition of coaches who have seen everything. As far as recruiting we need recruiters like our RB coach we had in the 70’s who would spend a month on the road if they had to, just to get that needed recruit. His names escapes me at the moment but he had a big afro like Billy Sims and Switzer brings him up a bit in the Bootlegger’s Boy. We need guys who can recruit with the best of them and we need coaches who can coach with the best of them for 60 minutes! Not 45 or whatever..Let’s get back to being the Traditional Oklahoma Football program.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

These defensive guys didn’t face the type of offenses the Big 12 has, so they wouldn’t be of much help. A coach has his guys, you see it across all football. I brought up USC only because of the speed. In every other aspect OU’s program is better and has the W-L record to prove it. Although it must be acknowledged that Southern California as a destination appeals to certain kids a lot more than Norman.
As far as former 70’s and 80’s players, The 18-22 year old’s on the roster have never heard of most of the OU greats. Bosworth stands out and appeals to todays players because he 1. He showed individualism (the Boz/haircut) that appeals to them 2. He was an All-American and only two-time Butkus winner 3. He was “the whole package” being able to cross over into movies and mass media.

Stoops until this year had a 80% winning percentage that’s one of the top three in CFB. Yes, from 73-88 Switzer was No 1 in winning %. We have fallen off from that, but other than two less national titles, Bob’s tenure is comparable.

          • CastorTroyBoy says:

Stoops is not revered like some other coaches. When recruits ever here of Bobby he’s attacking someone in the media or being combative in the interview room. You bring up 18 yr.olds…We’ll “cult of personality” still exist! Saban has it, Harbaugh too. Yeah perhaps the game has past coaches by. It is not about that, It’s about bringing this program together. There is an “aloofness” ? That is within this program that was there even when they were winning Big 12 titles. This program is too guarded, with fans and media not allowed at practices etc..Roy Williams was asked If he had the choice where would he most like to play at now, he said USC, there practices are loose, fun, spirited but they get there work in and the players atleast in the Carroll days when they got behind they always found a way to come back, resilience whatever. Stoops record in games decided by 7 points or less? Awful. Switzer I believe was 18-2 or 19-1in games decided by 3 points or less. Plus I don’t care much for playing with the lead. Any team looks good when they have a lead, but a true champion is really respected imho. when they come back time & time again and eventually win.

    • blaster1371 says:

I see the TEs having as big a blocking role in this game thanerhaps since Texass. Clemson DEs will need to be chipped or sent wide. What I think we are all hoping for is a little play action to the TE.

      • John Garner says:

Any play-action to a TE would be novel — and appreciated — especially if SS can’t play.

  • Peabody Thekat says:

Of course I wish the best for J. Thomas..however,
everyone appears to cover our receivers?

    D. D.

    signed….Debbie Downer

  • CastorTroyBoy says:

Guys everything in my blood wants me to walk, talk, strut around Like” WE OKLAHOMA ARE THE BEST! Sadly that has not been true. Had some idiot not had Demarco returning kicks to start the game vs. Mizzou it may have been different! You don’t see Saban, Meyer, Harbaugh, and about 100 other coaches playing there MVP on kick returns in a game we could have named the score. Now Kool-aid drinkers I’m sorry for the negativity I’m never going to sip on the kool-aid your drinking! I have wised up, I hope one day U do as well…

    • Doobie74OU says:

Goodbye Troll! Nobody cares what you think! We are all just waiting for Super K,Jordan, and/or JY to block you from posting here! What a waste of time and space!

      • CastorTroyBoy says:

Again, when you or someone else has no facts to back up your claims you can only resort to calling someone a troll. I bet you and others one here always have to have your boys around when your in a discussion with someone. Always playing to the lynch mob mentality. If my talk was not true it would not bother you…Like the ole’ saying says…”If the Shoe fits..You’ll end wearing it. If it don’t you’ll drive on… I guess alot of folks are wearing shoes that have made them uncomfortable…And now you want to blame me for your discomfort? Can thee spell Hypocrite???

        • SoonerfanTU says:

          Can you spell “ban hammer”?

          • CastorTroyBoy says:

Plenty of people have been banned, jailed, persecuted whatever…! As far as the banning is concerned. I’ll just say I am very well versed in computers my boy….

        • cpearc00 says:

Can thee learn the difference between your and you’re? Also, you are sadly mistaken if you seriously think that the fact people are put off by you is due to the truth in what you say. People just don’t like rude, negative people. Simple as that.

        • Doobie74OU says:

You see this is were you prove that you are a true moron! On this site we all readly acknowledge to things about our team that need to change. We discuss thing that have to get better. We argue and disagree about what some of those things are but we are not ATTENTION SEEKING WHORE TROLLS that will say anything just trying to get a rise out of others. You truly are sad because you are not a fan you are just a hater! Move on! You don’t matter to anyone! And also anybody including you can spell hypocrite with the aid of spell check!

          • CastorTroyBoy says:

Anybody calling themselves Doobie cannot be taken seriously son! Have you ever called anyone a whore face to face? And them be a man too? Alot of name-calling on this board and spell checking but no fact-checking??? I know what you are…So I’m not surprised at all with the vitriol…But If someone was under my skin this bad I’d try something a little different. I don’t need to name call anyone unless said person is only willing to hide behind that keyboard.

          • Doobie74OU says:

Never call me son again my dad was 1000 times the man you will ever be and he gave me the nickname of Doobie long ago having nothing to do with what you are referring too. I lost him three years ago and he no time for people like you in my life! Goodbye and Good Riddance!

      • Sooner Ray says:

If you don’t give the little boy any candy, he may put his barbies back in his purse and find a new playground.

    • Jeremy Phillips says:

if that were only true… Percy Harvin has always returned kicks and punts and he’s always been the best offensive player on his team… he’s played for Urban Meyer and Pete Carroll…

      • CastorTroyBoy says:

Jeremy look at the film of all percy career games. How many touches do you think he averaged? He specializes in kickoff returns. I don’t recall that being Our most important need? Your job as coach is to protect your best players unless you absolutely have no one else to do the job. We could have sent a 10 yr.old out there versus Mizzou and if he can follow a block he’d get 20 yards. That game was a joke! Whether DeMarco, or Dumbo would have been out there. Still the same outcome!

        • Jeremy Phillips says:

I guess you missed that National Title game between OU and UF… Harvin caught passes and took handoffs… he was THE difference in that game.. again he was the best player on the field… and he also returned kicks…

          • CastorTroyBoy says:

He was the difference because we had sorry play on defense! He had touches because we did not stop him. He got traded from Seattle because he was not a contributing! Teams allow you to do things. Others do not. We have made career days for many people over the last 10 yrs. Need I remind you??

          • Zack says:

And who were we missing? Demarco right. Similar effect. People forget Peterson returned kicks every once in awhile at OU.

          • CastorTroyBoy says:

Yeah and name big game where Peterson returning a damn kickoff, made any difference in the outcome of the game. I get what you folks are saying. I just feel differently on how you use your talent. Especially with a talent with unique skills like DeMarco had which we were lacking in all others..But hey we OKLAHOMA we have 5 DeMarco’s ready to start versus Florida….

          • Zack says:

If demarco is your best returner then you use him as a returner. Especially when they had 3 deep at running back. Not having demarco could have been part of the difference but so were the 2 int’s and the defense getting eaten alive by Percy Harvin who was a Swiss army knife that game.

          • CastorTroyBoy says:

Zach I get it. Percy did this, Percy did that. Lsu did this, Lsu did that. West Virginia QB did this and he did that..Boise did this Boise did that. Stoops has lost so many games this way. Fact of the matter is. If your a title team you should be able to take something away. Why are other teams able to keep Harvins of the world in check while we continue to make excuses. Do you guys remember OU having to have Bo Pellini come down to teach us a game plan on how to stop florida offense..?? Have you seen Nebraska’s defense under Pellini?LOL I’m sorry, Stoops friendship with these guys helped him lose another title game. ..Instead he should have been talking to guys who have a proven record of causing Urban Meyer trouble defensively. You go even to your enemy if your enemy gives you the best chance to win! Stoops will not do what is necessary to bring titles to Norman, that is fact!

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

True I think Moses Madu had 100 yards. Didn’t Murray dislocate his knee on special teams against Tech in 2007 as well?

    • boomersooner says:

You’re not sorry for the negativity. You don’t speak in fact but ebonics. The only thing you’re good at is being a POS….congrats

      • CastorTroyBoy says:

I wonder If you were next to a black recruit we wanted would you be making disparaging comments in association with black people and ebonics. Best stay in Okie land, they may allow that talk. Go to Atlanta, GA. spouting that stuff see how that works out for ya….

        • boomersooner says:

Been in the state of Oklahoma maybe twice in my life. And you might be the toughest guy on the internet. Cool man. We’ll see if these guys know somebody who can make you a trophy. I’m just trying to grade someone on how they talk/type/speak….you failed. And I’m from Memphis so I don’t need a lecture from some tough guy who picked up roots and moved to Houston who’s on the internet looking for some street cred

          • CastorTroyBoy says:

Street Cred? No I just hoped there were less idiots on this board than the other Sooner Boards. I respect landthieves though, since they will criticize and not question anothers criticism by calling them troll, or other racists disparagement! The Ebonic talk, idiotic! As is the troll bull. You want to shut someone up. Have facts that back up your claims. I’d like nothing more than to crow about how bad Ohio St. Alabama, Oregon 7 Fsu are. But I would be an idiot to claim that looking at there accomplishments as of late. This is my team, my program. I take the losing seriously and I don’t even gamble! You think I like coming here and taking your abuse because I have beef with the way are program is going? Your beyond stupid if you believe that. I care enough to take what I’m getting daily If It means something will change..!

          • connie usa says:

The word is spelled “YOU’RE” (“Your beyond stupid”) .
PS: At what point will you take the hint and go away?

          • CastorTroyBoy says:

In your dreams honey. When someone fights at me Kiddo Connie I go at them even harder…!You folks keep starting this ignorant way of message board angst. I can assure you will forgive if I finish it!

      • kt-raida says:

        Why the ebonics remark?

        • boomersooner says:

Don’t take my comment to him at face value. I don’t dislike him because he’s black. I dislike him because he’s a piece of crap. If you look back at his comment history, not just here but everywhere. Not just OU, but every site on every topic, you will notice a recurring theme. He is a racist. There is a difference between a JC Watts and a Josh Gordon. There is a difference between a Reggie White and a Marion Barry. There is a difference between a Russell Wilson and this guy. I will call someone out. If you’re full of crap I will call you out whether its saying negative stuff about every little thing or being a racist pile. I will not apologize for not being politically correct and I will not apologize to this clown

    • J J says:

Let it go. The game was 6 years ago….

      • CastorTroyBoy says:

I never let go of losses! You learn more about your team thru big game losses than you do in powder puff wins…!

        • J J says:

Yeah. We learned a lot from it 6 years ago. Mostly we learned as mind numbing playing as Kevin Wilson had become…. He’s light years ahead of Heupel. But trust me. Let it go. Be pissed about bedlam & tCU & kstate bc clearly the staff didn’t learn much going into the Baylor game

  • Kyle says:

I hope McNamara stays, I thought he’d be an actual threat from TE. I can’t blame if he leaves though. If we won’t utilize the position he might as well find somewhere that will.

  • blaster1371 says:

The JC TE signed last winter and who red-shirted will be pushing for starting time. Sam Grant also moved back to TE in the fall camp. McNamara has all the physical attributes of a prototypical TE But for some reason he has been unable to earn a place on the field.

  • CastorTroyBoy says:

? Formerly Known as CastorTroyBoy LOL…

  • Stephen says:

Twitter seems to be experiencing an attack right now, if you’re still logged in, do not log out. It won’t let you back in.

  • Jeff says:

I hope they come out and are ready to play.

  • CastorTroyBoy says:

Guys when we play with a passion, very little mistakes, not looking lost or if were playing inspired once down in the game, were physical on offense defense. We the fans understand what were doing, were tackling well etc. etc. You would never hear a peep out of me unless I’m crowing about how great we are and how we have to be talked about in the same breath as other teams as one of the greatest of all -time. That is a promise!!!

  • ellisbr says:

I don’t think this is necessarily the right post for this but has there been any news on the coaching front? I’ve been traveling and haven’t had a chance to catch up on everything.

  • CastorTroyBoy says:

Gotta head out of the Coffee House. To one and all BoomerSooner!

  • Lesslie Stanford says:

Apparently Barnett has narrowed it to Nebraska and Ok State. Per ESPN.

  • Stephen says:

Favor to ask, I’m working on some highlights/hype video for 2015. What are some plays you would want to see? You can link them or just tell me what game and I’ll do my best to find them. Thanks.

  • EasTex says:

I predicted before he got drafted by the Browns this year, and I stand by my prediction today, that Miley Football will be broke and in prison within ten years.

  • Rene Goupillaud says:

In my view, if you don’t respect your opponent enough to prepare and compete as hard as you can, then you don’t deserve to be called a good team. When Bama used that excuse, what it said to me was “we are a poor excuse for a Crimson Tide squad”. I hope the Sooners don’t do the same. Lose trying is a lot better than mailing it in.

  • SamSooner says:

Jordan/Super K, can either of you confirm if there’s any truth to OU telling Barnett they are full at his position?

    • Jordan Esco says:

I think this has been coming for a while. From what I understand, he just didn’t develop over this past year like they thought/hoped they would.

  • SoonerSpock says:

The Oklahoman reports Jalin Barnett announces OSU and Nebraska are his top two schools. He said his top two schools OU and Arkansas told him they were full at his position.

    http://newsok.com/lawton-ol-jalin-barnett-names-top-two-of-oklahoma-state-nebraska/article/5379877

    • JB says:

Great…yet another in-state talent we’re going to blow it on. But we’ll probably pick up some Texas 4 star at his position even though we’re “full” who will be yet another bust/wasted scholarship because they don’t pan out. Meanwhile, Barnett will probably be an All-American somewhere else and be a day 1 NFL draft prospect. Oh, I am so ready for a new coach at OU, one who finally understands the importance of recruiting in-state.

      • Lesslie Stanford says:

We are in better standing with Wariboko than expected. So they probably feel good about his commitment. And from everything that I have read Wariboko is the better prospect. Also interior lineman do not hardly go in the first round anyways. 6 guys at Center or Guard have gone in the first round over the last 5 years.

  • TimPOBSooner says:

Sounds like a lot of what we heard was dead on. The team nor the coaches were excited to play this game and it showed. How EMBARRASSING!
