I can hear it now, just like on the OU Replay last night, the first thing Stoops will say about KSU will involved the name “Snyder”. His pressers are as predictable as Heupel’s gamplans.
Lol. We Let’s see how many of the buzzwords we can get through. Execution, Discipline, Respect, Great team, well coached,

If we could only capitalize on that…

Here comes Bob
At least he’s willing to concede this:
Stoops: “We recognize there’s some areas we need to continue to improve on. In particular, we had some mental breakdowns on 3rd down defensively.”
One 3rd down conversion on offense, and he’s talking about 3rd downs defensively. Not that there aren’t things to improve on, but, c’mon Bob.
“We just need to execute better” remains the company line
I don’t wanna come off as snarky or smart alecky or anything but I just don’t know what y’all expect. He closes practice so as to not give anything away. He’s also gonna guard his words. If he tried to break something down to a certain level(such as something deeper like “our scheme stinks” more so than “Ahmad was outta position” or “we blew an assignment”) he’ll either end up calling someone out in public or would have to guard his words to where it just ends being coach speak, so I think he just chooses to avoid it with clichés and coach speak so that he doesn’t give something up. Opposing coaches probly see everything they need to on video anyway but if you want a deep answer, its safer to guard yourself against anything you might say. This makes sense in my head so hopefully it comes across well or I might just be way off
Yep. I wonder if Saban is giving out any more than Stoops is after being in the same position (loss followed by close/ugly win). I’d guess not.
That’s a good point. They’re probly getting talked up more for the playoffs than we are also. Which, to some extent, they’ve earned with previous yrs accomplishments. But, they’re scuffling like we are and with health our title hopes of yrs past could be extremely different and then Bob would probly get more of the benefit of the doubt like Satan does
Or get better players!!!
Right. The players aren’t executing. I think Mike even said that he can’t make some magic call. Players have to make plays. Surely reading between the lines doesn’t bring us to conclude that their game plans and play calls are optimal, it’s just the players who aren’t doing it right…
Stoops says solving their third-down issues will be a heavy emphasis in practice this week.
That’s two weeks worth of emphasis!!!
Stoops: We’ve got to be more efficient on first and second down to avoid third-and-long
This… our 3rd down conversions are a result of inept 1st and 2nd downs. Prior to TCU we were averaging over 8 yards a play on 1st down.
Stoops dances around and doesn’t really answer a question about Knight keeping it on zone read plays
Stoops talking up Devante Bond who I thought played pretty well on Saturday
Stoops on Bond: He’s an exceptional athlete with great power and size. He’s going to have more opportunities to be on the field.
Stoops isn’t going to sit here and detail on Trevor has played
Simply because he would have to throw Josh H under the bus at the same time.
He’s always been consistent about not calling out players performances any further than maybe mentioning a specific play where a throw or catch could have been better. Lots of folks seem to think that he’s upset or reading Josh the riot act, but unless I’ve missed something, with very minor exceptions, I haven’t seen anything from Stoops that’s indicated anything other than being in total agreement with what JH is doing.
And that tells me that Josh is doing what Bob is telling him to do in regards to play calling
my sense from everything they’ve all said is that there’s group input on everything. However, my reading of this presser is that the decision about how much and under what conditions to run Trevor is Bob’s. He said as much. My take is that he’s not at all happy about it, in the sense that he views it as a tough decision upon which the season’s success may rest. My sense is that he’ feels he’s walking a pretty narrow tightrope, but that he’s deciding as we go along, just how much risk he’s willing to take. After seeing this, I’d say that while he’s discussing it with his crew, the chances that anyone else is making the final decision on that are pretty close to zero. JMHO of course.
Stoops on defensive miscues: “We’re making too many mistakes. I don’t know why it’s happening. It shouldn’t happen
because it’s all guys who have played. All they have to do is talk.”
Stoops: I didn’t feel like the run game was the difference in the game for them (Texas).
Stoops on Hunnicutt: He’s been so consistent. Wwe have so much confidence in him. We definitely appreciate him.
Stoops shoots down a popular theory about putting Ross at WR
Stoops suggests there could be some different receivers out there soon after drop issues in recent weeks.
Really? It is about time.
I don’t think it’s warranted a change until recently (UT game). And we’re mostly talking about Young here.
While Quick is the option most would like to see, what happened to Bennett? Didn’t he look really good back in the spring/summer?
Or Mead. As much as we like to throw the deep fly, surely he could come down with a few of those with his height.
Gawd….just the THOUGHT of Mead going deep would loosen up a defense.
6 games later…
Jordan, this is the best news I’ve heard all day. It’s frustrating seeing no rotation in WR core. Really talented guys, no PT to brake them in.
Stoops: Tyler (Lockett) puts pressure on every secondary.
Just a slight understatement
Auburn shut him down with ease; passing game anyway. Not sure what they did, but it was effective. My thought was since he’s so slight, press him on every play and do not give him the opportunity to just shoot off the line and make moves. Just my 2 cents. Regardless, review the Auburn tape and follow suit.
Get ready to see the 8 yd. cushion.
I don’t like this cat one bit, we will have our hands full. Between the Baylor’s weapons, WVU’s White and Lockett, is he the best we will face all season?
So ready to be done with the Shipley’s, the McCoy’s, AND the Locketts! lol
https://twitter.com/OU_Football/status/521711284287713280
Stoops on whether he’d like to see more QB run game: “At times, yeah.”
Proof is in the pudding, Bob. Let’s see it then.
that’s encouraging
https://twitter.com/OU_Football/status/521712110552621056
https://twitter.com/john_shinn/status/521712327708921856
Stoops: Getting QB run game is “both” play-calling and Knight’s decision-making.
https://twitter.com/ryaber/status/521712729359654912
You can tell Stoops is trying to put an end to this, or at least this current line of questioning. He’s having none of it.
Stoops says Geneo Grissom could play more at DE to due emergence of Bond and injuries to Walker and Dimon.
Why can’t they just keep this guy at one position?
I hate not letting him settle in, but I do like the prospect of having Bond and Grissom on the field at the same time.
And Okoronkwo! Crazy pass rush with Obo, Striker, Grissom, Tapper
I think this is the real reason. Pass rush is being neutralized too easily because the secondary has been weak. Putting a true linebacker back there should shore up the secondary and moving Grissom back to DE improves the pass rush.
Secondary has been weak in exactly 1 spot – Thomas. Most of the other consistent failures in coverage have been due to soft coverage and not letting a guy like Toast be aggressive. Giving guys a free release with nobody near them for 8 yards makes it impossible for anybody to get pressure. You’re gonna get beat in coverage sometimes, but if you give your self no chance of defending 5-10 yard routes, you’re gonna get beat a lot and that’s not the DB or d-lines fault. That’s the coaches.
So basically, Bob admits they want to run QB more, and he wouldn’t respond to the “give is there” comment… But he also says he doesnt want to get Trevor hurt. So that is it. Our seasons success depends on playing it safe, to keep TK safe. Okay. Well, there’s that.
Classic Bob
Here’s one of my issues with this entire QB run BS. Does he NOT remember that Sammy was hurt when he threw the ball, not running it? At this point, he and the other coaches best idea is to play TK safely and not run because he’s their best QB in practice. Well, he’s been average, at best, in games, so we are being conservative and playing “not to lose” football so we don’t get our average QB hurt? That’s rich.
It’s the annual trip down memory lane for the media talking about Bob’s time in Manhattan w/ Snyder. Expect a coma-inducing article from Tramel on the subject later this week.
Stoops on the injuries to Walker and Ford: They just haven’t healed as fast as we thought.
https://twitter.com/ryaber/status/521714065140248576
Damn media, stir the pot and throw the kids under the bus.
Stoops on if there was improvement between TCU and Texas games: It’s a heck of a lot better. Winning is better than losing, so yeah.
“It’s the nature of everybody” to ask so many questions about what’s wrong even after a win, according to Stoops.
Because your blind if you think all is ok
Stoop says he isn’t going to call kids out by name publicly b/c they aren’t professional players, but assures everyone behind closed doors the issues that need to be addressed is being done so.
Just the way it should be.
I did like his demeanor when he said that, gave me more confidence that he’s handling things.
Hate to be a pessimist, but I won’t believe it until I see it.
The most interesting take away from this question for me was that the question seemed to me that it might be referring just as much to game plans, and coaches, and that didn’t even register as an issue with Stoops. He immediately registered it as a player issue.
Or diverted it to a player issue so he wouldn’t have to throw a coach under the bus.
No, that’s just what I mean. I checked it again. His body language and the way he instantly responded said, to me anyway, that he didn’t even consider that an issue. In my experience he’s pretty obvious when he wants to divert things, as he attempted to do on the reasons for Trevor not running the ball more on the option.
and that is the way it should be! Amen.
https://twitter.com/ryaber/status/521715422127611904
And that’s a wrap for today
For Bob anyway, Trevor Knight now at the podium
Not expecting much here in the way of substance. Which is not meant as an insult to Trevor, but he’s been coached well to say a lot of words w/o really saying much, IMO.
Trevor thinks they’re doing a great job of executing the zone read.
https://twitter.com/ryaber/status/521716400021188610
I wonder if he said this with a straight face.
SMH
Well maybe this is the source of the whole problem!!! HE DOESN’T KNOW WHEN HE IS SUPPOSE TO PULL IT! (if this is true which I don’t think it is. they coach the kids on what to say better than running the zone-read it sounds like) There was at least 5-6 times last week that the DE that he is suppose to read was the first one to hit the RB and that should tell you they are crashing down the line hard!
Ok, is he blind?
I got nuthin’
He’s speaking the truth on not having many pull reads lately. That’s because it’s not a read, its a predetermined give. Not stating anything everyone else isn’t. You can tell by the blocking it’s a called give. They are blocking the DE instead of getting to the second level and leaving him free. The DE should be the guy you read.
…
If TK truly believes that then we have bigger issues
He doesn’t. He’s just saying what the coaches want him to say.
https://twitter.com/OU_Football/status/521717398366613504
What has the emphasis been on in the past?
https://twitter.com/ryaber/status/521717589337059328
The media is really, really fascinated w/ Alex Ross’ personality.
I saw him a bit on the OU Replay last night, but that’s about all I’ve seen. All I’ve heard is that he is a really weird dude.
texsa thought it was weird how Ross tele-ported down the field at warp speed.
now we’re done
If we’re going to be SO guarded about TK’s health, then why even bother running the GD zone read??? It fools no one when the likelihood of TK keeping it is less than 5%. Get back in the offset I or diamond and run traditional, smash mouth, kick-the-defense-in-the-teeth run plays!
With respect to TK’s passing game, I think we need to get back into some dink-and-dunk type plays to build his confidence. We finally ran a swing pass/WR screen (the kind LJ used to throw 18 times a game to Broyles) and it worked perfectly. I loved the fake RB screen throw to WR middle screen call. Also beautiful. Run some simple 5-yard stops where the receiver finds the open spot in the zone and tell TK to wait on it. Don’t just zip the damn thing b/c you think that’s where he’s going. Actually find the open area.
I have been saying this exact thing for weeks… Landry completed like 65% of his passes compared to TK’s 50%… but LJ was throwing bubble screens and swing passes every other pass. Give TK some quick completions for him and his receivers to get momentum going and to loosen up the middle of the field for Samaje. If we ran the real zone read on top of that we would be light years ahead of that crap we ran against Texas.
Haha. But please, no 5 yd stops or outs on 3rd and 8
Now all we need to do is get Cale to recruit Lb’s for OU and we should be ok!
The annual ask stoops an absurd amount of questions about his time in Manhattan.
Anyone ask Bob about the uniform choice this week? I’m betting we go with new home uni..
Be a good morale booster but I think we might wait for Baylor
Love this, I’m sure Bob feels the same!

Awesome, funny, and true all at the same time. Thanks for posting.
wow. he nailed it. people(fans) sometimes don’t get it. when you have “sooners” on your jersey and a team, any team, sees you coming up on their schedule, YOU ARE GOING TO GET THEIR BEST SHOT. alot of people are saying it, every team is getting better. parity is here, whether you like it or not. if you don’t match or come close to matching someone’s intensity, your talent gap may not be able to overcome them, especially on the road
Easily the best I’ve ever seen Saban. Wow.
If you watch the Ty Darlington video clip that they showed during the coaches show, you see exactly what he’s referring to. Pure joy and excitement. The best.
That about sums it up.
Bob Stoops initials are?
..the same as Barry Switzers?
After 16 years of listening to Stoops press conferences, they’re very predictable. No offense to you guys in the media (because we appreciate you asking the questions and keeping us informed) but I know how Stoops is going to answer some of the questions as soon as they’re asked. Some of them are dumb questions and as we all know, some of them are just to get a quote for the story you’ve already written.
I really appreciate TK’s press conferences. He’s the QB, the team leader and regardless of how he or the team plays, he’s always positive and very politically correct. Does a great job of speaking for the team.
I LOVE the Striker interviews. Just the way he speaks and answers questions reflects his intensity and his attitude on the field. He could care less about anybody other than his team. He’s not giving anyone on any other team any praise. You want that on defense!!!
John Hoover with Tulsa World was shuffled to the back and allowed only 1 question. Punishment for last couple of weeks.
Weeks??? Years
