Bob Stoops ‘End Of Season’ Presser

Image via NewsOK

No clue what to expect today from Stoops, especially after this morning’s news regarding Josh Heupel no longer being with the program. Could be a huge day for the program, or it could be Stoops standing up there having called for this thing and refusing to actually address specifics. At this point nothing would surprise me. Well, other than the idiotic rumor that made the rounds last night that today could be about Stoops resigning.

Will be here to provide live updates, though, just like every other presser this year, so feel free to hang out and discuss.

    Here we go..

  • Greg sparks says:

Is this going to be on tv?

  • OUhound says:

    Outstanding, Thanks Jordon

  • OptimusPerine32 says:

Is it starting at 11 and will it be on Sooner Sports Network on FOX?

  • ruasoonerfan2 says:

    BOOMER

  • Doobie74OU says:

can it be watched online anywhere?

  • Billy says:

    Bob Stoops the the 49ers.

  • alouicious says:

    BOOMER!!

  • BR says:

Thanks so much Jordan for doing this agian….Hopefully we get some good news and not just a bunch of coach speak

    • BleedCrimson says:

I believe he will only comment on what has already been put out. I doubt he would say what is going to happen with other coaches. Just wouldn’t be right.

  • normanite says:

Stoops wouldn’t be firing people if he was leaving. He’d just leave.

    • blaster1371 says:

True. And the fact he is staying while the staff is being overhauled tells me he WANTS to be at OU. This is not a man just going through the motions.

      • Billy says:

Well. We are paying him a lot.

        • Jared William Reininger says:

I agree somewhat with that but his wife makes more than he does, I think he wants to stay at OU for his family cause his kids have grown up in Norman, he is established there, etc.

        • SoonerfanTU says:

Who is we? It is my understanding that most of his salary is paid thru athletic dept donations, or thru athletic dept earnings. So it’s not thru your tax dollars.

          • brainpimp says:

Yes, we the fans that donate and go to games pay for him. What you think you do it alone?

          • SoonerfanTU says:

You completely missed my point. If most of his salary is paid straight from donations, the portion of his salary that you, or any other one person that is not a donor is paying, is so miniscule that it’s not even worth mentioning.

  • blaster1371 says:

    This is a weird situation.

  • ccmosaic says:

stoops wants to get the air cleared and reassure the Sooner Base that he is taking steps to get the program where it needs to be. This is for the recruits as much as it is for anyone. We are in a dead period and no face to face time is allowed. This PC takes care of that.

  • Kevin Fielder says:

Bob announces we are doing away with the Alt Uni’s! Book it!

  • leatherneck1061 says:

There are 2 schools of thought here:

    1. Bob Stoops is committed and ready to turn the ship around and start winning championships again.

    2. Bob Stoops has lost his edge and is just firing assistants in a bid to save his job because he has no other answers.

At this point – and I love Bob Stoops – I really can’t be sure which it is.

    • ccmosaic says:

I believe it is somewhere in between. Bob is ready to call it a day, but he has too much pride to leave a program in a mess. Bob wants to get this ship right and then ride off into the sunset.

  • Kevin Fielder says:

DGB is staying and Braxton Miller is transferring in.

  • SoonerWarVet says:

Some of these journalists clearly do not know we can hear their conversations. Giddy as a school girl they seem!

  • Defend Colfax says:

Can’t watch so I appreciate everyone who will be relaying

  • ellisbr says:

Can I watch this on any cox channel

  • Billy Jackson says:

    Bob sounds nervous.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops confirms the Heupel & Norvell firings, says they will not be ‘scapegoats’

  • bjwalker82 says:

    Monty Co DC

  • Dustin Brasel says:

    JErry Mo – Co DC

  • Jordan Esco says:

Bob says he is more determined than ever to get this program back to winning championships.

  • bjwalker82 says:

    So no Mike out??

  • Sooner Ray says:

His voice is shaky, you can tell this is very difficult for him.

  • Billy says:

I am so sick of co’s to be honest.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Bob announces he has promoted Jerry Montgomery to co-defensive coordinator

  • bjwalker82 says:

    Dammit, Mike is staying….

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops on Montgomery: “He’s a rising star in this profession.”

  • normanite says:

    Nothing on Kish and BJW.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

No more staff changes, at this time

  • bjwalker82 says:

    Bob looks very shaky.

  • SCKSChief says:

IF, and I stress the “if”, those are the only changes…I’m not a happy camper.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops says he is not expecting any further coaching changes.

    WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

    • snakepit says:

True, True! Especially on the defensive side!! He keeps saying he has 9 players coming back on defense so things will be better. They Won’t!!! I wouldn’t want to be in the stadium next year when teams just walk up and down the field on us…could be a riot.

      • hemisooner says:

the secondary should improve by just having some experience. Now, im not going out on a limb and say they will be a good defense . Just better than this year.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Jordan love your efforts and this site. Can’t start a day without it. However, throughout CFB, offenses are dominating. Look at Bama! Having trouble holding top teams under 40 points. FSU 29-0 gave up 59! I know you think MS failed this year. Can you outline what you realistically expect from an OU defense moving forward? If a team averages 40 points a game (Baylor, TCU, Ok St, TT, K St, etc…) is giving up 28 a game acceptable? What would be a good defensive year? Just trying to gauge a fellow OU fan’s perspective.

      • SCKSChief says:

It’s not about the points. It’s about looking lost and out-matched ALL THE TIME! I think I’m gonna vomit…

BTW, that last bit had nothing to do with your post.

        • Daddy R says:

Young players will look lost and out-matched.. I know coaching can improve this, but often, only experience can.

          • hemisooner says:

I agree. But i would say there is a big talent drop in the defense from years past. In fact i would say only 3 players from this D would start for those defense in the past during the stoops era. I dont see the talent.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Bob seems very nervous. It’s not a good look on him

  • Glocal Sooner says:

Ah yes, the ole Sugar Bowl victory over Alabama again.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops confirms he did meet w/ Boren yesterday, offers nothing in the way of details

  • SoonerSouthoftheRed says:

Mike is not going anywhere. Surely he doesn’t think the only weakness was with the Offense!

  • bjwalker82 says:

    Eff. Me.

  • Mr. Jones says:

Bob’s not happy with Blevin’s prodding. lol

  • Sooner Ray says:

Bob is basically saying that Mike hasn’t found another job yet.

  • vargo05 says:

Man, I’m sorry, but I dislike Bob more and more each time I see him at a press conference.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

      Find another team?

      • vargo05 says:

How about I’m allowed to express my opinion how I want? Is that OK with you or are you a mod that can ban me for saying what I want without being combative towards others? I’m an OU fan and will say what I want about the program. I haven’t attacked anybody here or said anything terrible. If you don’t like it, that’s your issue, not mine.

        • captfoss says:

          Find another team?

          • vargo05 says:

            Find your own comment?

          • captfoss says:

How about I’m allowed to express my opinion how I want? Is that OK with you? If you don’t like it, that’s your issue, not mine.

          • kt-raida says:

            Trolling lol

          • MooseanzSqwirrul says:

Nice….Really? Why? because ganging up on vargo is so classy?

          • captfoss says:

I found TU’s comment to be the appropriate response to not liking Bob Stoops, and I found vargo’s response to it humorously defensive. I responded accordingly.

I assume that vargo is wearing his/her big boy/girl pants, and nothing that either of us posted is going to cause him/her to break down and cry or otherwise ruin his/her life… so I’m not sure where this “ganging up” sentiment came from. No one attacked vargo in any way.

          • Travis Coyle says:

            lol!!!!

  • James says:

    Well, that was disappointing!

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops confirms that Dorial Green-Beckham is entering the NFL Draft

    • SCKSChief says:

While expected, just another shot to the nuts for OU fans today.

    • Jordan Esco says:

Immediately downplays the decision having anything to do w/ Norvell

    • akryan says:

I’ll make one comment about this in every post that DGB is brought up in. Then I’ll shut up about it. I am glad he’s leaving. I’m glad he will never wear a Sooners jersey. He broke into a house, busted through the bathroom door, and then dragged his girlfriend down the stairs by her hair. I’ll give kids a lot of second and third chances for a lot of things. Domestic violence isn’t one of them. I hope the kid has really changed things around for himself, but I would have never had him on campus.

  • Jed says:

guess that was why there were no names up for DC.

  • SCKSChief says:

This…does not make the ribosomes happy.

  • RBear says:

I’m not so sure Mike’s gonna be here- I just don’t think Bob can fire
him- i suspect he’ll be encouraged to find work elsewhere… and Monty,
the “rising star” can fill the role along with the replacement. Bob is
not comfortable at all talking about more changes coming.

    • Billy Jackson says:

I agree. His talk left the door open for Mike and Kish to leave gracefully. He said he didn’t expect anymore changes, which was key. Had he said there would be no more changes, then I’d think otherwise.

  • Isaac Wright says:

    SO KISH ISNT GOING ANYWHERE?

  • normanite says:

Stoops got a little evasive when asked if more coaching changes will be made. I think more could come.

    • OUWade says:

which is in two weeks, right?

      • Jordan Esco says:

        nine days

        • OUWade says:

cool, thanks. At least that’s encouraging that we could fill the two vacant offensive roles in that period of time. Maybe, depending on who it is, it could help with a few 2015 offensive guys that we may not have had a chance with, otherwise. Hoping that we will also see the defensive “nails” taken care of in that same time frame.

  • Glocal Sooner says:

I think more changes ARE coming on the defensive side of the ball based on what Stoops said and how he said it. Could be wrong but I think so.

    • SCKSChief says:

Dear 8lb, 6 oz. tiny, infant, baby Jesus…please let this be true. The changes part…not the other nauseating part.

    • Mr. Jones says:

I agree. At one point Bob started to say “At this time..” and then changed course and corrected himself. May be reading into that but worth noting.

    • JB says:

I hope to God you’re right. If Bob can’t see that defense was our biggest problem by far then he is completely out of touch with reality and must be replaced.

  • Isaac Wright says:

Kish couldnt recruit his own son to come here…

  • Phurter says:

I certainly hope there are more changes to come – otherwise this is just one big tease. Doesn’t matter if we score 42 points per game if we give up 43.

  • Defend Colfax says:

HE IS NOT GOING TO ANNOUNCE FIRINGS THAT HAVEN’T HAPPENED YET. I repeat. HE IS NOT GOING TO ANNOUNCE FIRINGS THAT HAVEN’T HAPPENED YET – Brought to you by sh*t we already knew.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Bob says Mike & Jerry will share, to some degree, def. play calling duties. Because who can’t see that working out?

  • leatherneck1061 says:

Not at all surprised Mike is staying – but I thought there was at least a decent chance Kish would be on the chopping block. Would love for someone to ask Bob to name one positive thing Kish has brought to this defense.

  • Andrew says:

It is smart not to release anything. Keep everything in house. In the end we will know exactly what changes where made.

  • shawncturner says:

So when the Norvell announcement was made, TFB said that their source heard 2 more names. I am guessing that JH was one. So who was the 2nd and why wasn’t it announced today, I wonder?

    • Sooner_Ace says:

“think” Cale likes his gig as is

      • OUWade says:

and why wouldn’t he? Gets paid a pretty decent amount, and as long as he does what he has for the last 15 years, he doesn’t have to be concerned about his name coming up in press conferences like this one (in a negative way)

        • Sooner_Ace says:

i am not knocking him at all, i’d like that gig, and can only hope I would 1/2 as good as he is

          • OUWade says:

yeah, sorry, my ‘tone’ may have sounded wrong. I completely agree that I think Gundy might just like his job as it is, knowing that he just has to keep doing what he’s doing and his job security is at a higher level than several others.

  • Sooner_Ace says:

Still think MS (by extension KIsh) is gone in one way or another….

  • Isaac Wright says:

so heupel was canned? not just demoted?

  • Sam Sherwood says:

Someone at the business college needs to teach Bob that Co-coordinators is NOT a good management structure.

    • snakepit says:

That is why when the offense huddled on the sideline during timeouts etc. it looked like a Chinese fire drill with everyone trying to control their little piece of turf. It is impossible for the co-coordinators in particular!!!

  • SamSooner says:

Who is asking that dumb question about Stoops on vacation?

  • SoonerSouthoftheRed says:

Mike getting testy about his personal time..team preparation for the bowl.

  • Isaac Wright says:

Just so we’re clear I dont want to hear anyone begging JH to come back when he has a couple successful seasons and we have had a couple disappointing ones

  • Dustin says:

Who’s the joker that keeps asking about his family vacation?

  • SoonerBredCD says:

Thanks for nothing Dorial… I hope you get drafted in the same round as Tony Jefferson.

  • OUhound says:

Hey Jordon, is Hoover as big of an SOB as he appears to be?

    • OUWade says:

does that mean at the end of the spring semester? Kind of thought at least Mixon was expected back after the Fall semester. Maybe I’m just misremembering

  • Isaac Wright says:

So at the moment the best we could do was can our WR coach whos only problem was that he wasnt able to develope (big problem) but are at the moment keeping the only guy on staff that couldnt recruit a dog to play?

  • Doobie74OU says:

THIS DEFENSE HAS TO CHANGE!!!!!!! I am not saying that the offense didn’t need changes but it averaged over 36 points per game! How can an offense average that much and loose 5 games and there be NO DEFENSIVE FIRINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sooner_Ace says:

Every defensive question is answered by “Right now…” things are brewing in my mind’s eye on that side of the ball too

    • ccmosaic says:

Changes are coming on the D as well. Bob refuses to tip his hat but his answers left it open. I personally believe Mike will be back and Kish will be removed, bjw will be gone as well but where?

  • leatherneck1061 says:

    Great character….in between gf beatings……riiiiiiggghhhtt….

  • Glocal Sooner says:

And again, that ole Sugar Bowl win…

    • Isaac Wright says:

      Better than most

    • Doobie74OU says:

      Oh my goodness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • MrBigsby says:

Did he seriously bring that up again? That’s grounds for termination if you ask me!!!

    • SamSooner says:

I think what Stoops is using the Alabama win as a point of reference. He has established a baseline. When you are a leader, you have to remind yourself that you are closer to success than most people think. He’s unmoved. I know some are tired of hearing that but I get what he’s doing. He’s not allowing himself to be dragged in the muck that everyone insist the program is.
You’ve got some seasoned journalist asking the same dumb questions. I’m surprised he hasn’t gone off on some of them.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

I respectfully disagree that he doesn’t get it. He was asked the state of the program and he said we are a year removed from #6 and a Sugar Bowl win and then said we are now 8-5, which is not acceptable.

He’s fired two people, promoted one, and is having a press conference to discuss the changes. I think he gets it.

I wouldn’t be surprised if more changes take place before spring practice. We’ll see.

    • Shelby is a Patriot says:

You’re leaving out the question and him pointing out 8-5…

    • SoonerWarVet says:

Completely taking what he said out of context. As said below, it is what he said after that that should resonate. People, and really in life in general, need to stop taking little sound bytes and blowing it up.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

    Hoover isn’t letting up….

  • Ash Jones says:

At least Stoops is answering questions…..not as much coach speak

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops again refuses to address whether or not he’s already reached out to potential candidates

    • Sooner_Ace says:

I would not expect to answer that ? at all, till that person is signed etc

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I don’t think it’s prudent to talk about people he is reaching out to. No rush needed.

    • Bobby Duncan says:

Sounded an awful lot like he knows, and has reached out to, exactly who he wants to bring in. If I were a gambling man, I’d put money on that. Probably just trying to finalize the deal. As far as the defense is concerned, I agree with keeping Mike and his BASIC system when you have a lot of guys returning in it. Adding Monty to help game plan will be a bonus. Keeping Kish and BJW is ridiculous, and I don’t think there is anyway they are here in 2015. Mike might still land somewhere else and take Kish with him. At that point Stoops will get someone to share the duty with Monty. IMO

  • Billy says:

Waiting for the drop the mic moment where BS says, “oh and Mike is fired.”

  • JB says:

    Just say NO to Spavital

  • RBear says:

Not one Q about brother Mike interviewing w/Lester?

  • ccmosaic says:

I believe Bob did a great job with this presser. He gets upset because the questions are the same over and over again just simply asked in a different way. He took the blame today, gave respect to the departed and spoke about change. He has my confidence. Changes will come to the D just not sure when.

    • JB says:

I agree with his handling, but if he doesn’t make changes on D (i e., eliminate), then this is all for naught.

    • Mysterio1 says:

I still think Bob is trying to get Mike a job some where else. The staff changes are not done.

  • Defend Colfax says:

Some of you guys make it too easy to tell which end you put the jockstrap on.

  • Ash Jones says:

I’m glad Stoops is looking for a new OC with new ideas and a new system.

  • ouguy777 says:

I think Stoops posts on here. Sometimes new directions are worse… sounds a lot like the doomsday posters on here that are afraid of making moves.

  • ouguy777 says:

Relationships ahead of time mean nothing to me- Bob Stoops. BULLSH!T

  • SamSooner says:

“Why the press conference?” Really? Is that what you had on your list of questions to ask Bob Stoops?

    • Ash Jones says:

Some reporters just want to be heard.

    • Eric Hoffpauir says:

That isn’t a bad question, actually. They could have released all this info in a different way. Maybe Bob just wanted to bring up the Sugar Bowl win again.

  • Jeff says:

If OU loses 3 games next year Stoops needs to be FIRED!! Had a chance to do something and didn’t

    • Ash Jones says:

      Overreact much???

      • Jeff says:

So you are happy with Kish, BJW staying????? So I guess you were happy with how the def preformed this year especially in getting blown out in 2 games!

        • ccmosaic says:

Kish and BJW both will be gone. He is just not announcing those changes today. BJW is looking at where he will land in the program. Kish is gone but Bob is not ready to say so.

      • Easton says:

        Yes, Wow.

    • Boom says:

easy hoss, Rome is not through being built. Just addressing what has happened so far.

    • paganpink says:

It really depends on the nature of the loss, the quality of the opponent and whether we see progress in our game. There are good losses where it still sucks but you went down doing everything you could do, and then there are losses that really sting like this year, where we lost to inferior opponents, and looked embarrassingly incompetent and stupid at times. Some more of THOSE and he is gone! But I don’t think you can set a number and not look at the big picture, Jeff. (Even if you have big boobs as in your picture LOL)

  • ccmosaic says:

My take on the D- Bob wanted to make a change but the big fish he was after went to Auburn. He chose rather than risk a new hire he would keep mike. Honestly I think that is a good move. No reason to grab a person you are not sure of. I do believe Kish will be gone and Montgomery will have more say than we may believe.
Very glad Monty is Co-DC. He need to be given that title. He will be out next DC if Mike fails or gets a new job.

    • JB says:

There are big fish still out there, like Clancy Pendergast

    • Indy_sooner says:

I concluded after watching Baylor dismantle MSU that NOBODY can stop that offenses. Heck we did that very thing to Bama.
Agree it doesn’t make sense to replace Mike with someone worse.

      • JB says:

West Virginia did, with a crappy defense talent-wise

        • Clint says:

Texas did as well when you consider the zero help that Texas’ defense got from their offense. It’s not easy, but it can be done. It stats by NOT having your corners play 10 yards off of the LOS on a 3rd and short scenario.

    • BigJoeBrown says:

May help out in recruiting. With Monty being out there so much, it would help him having the DC title.

    • Mark Evans says:

Hoping we can keep him from being lured away to Michigan by Harbaugh.

  • Ash Jones says:

BJW was seen at the Greyhound station with a need work sign. Can anyone confirm?

    • Cory Reedy says:

Well, it didn’t say “need work”….it said “Wife and dog kidnapped by Ninjas. Need $ for judo lessons. I really want that DOG back!”

  • Cory Reedy says:

Does Kish have pics of Bob smoking a J with a stripper or what?

  • RBear says:

Is the goal to have our games mirror the TCU Baylor game this year, score 100 but allow 101?

  • Ricky34 says:

So…Kish is still retained? Wow I thought he should be the first one fired???? Jordan is there something I’m missing on that? With his lack of recruiting especially and player development. .

    • CoachTalk says:

I think Mike and Kish go elsewhere… Give it time…

    • ccmosaic says:

Kish will be gone. Bob loved Josh, like a son. If Bob got rid of him he will cut Kish. He is looking for the right replacement.

  • Sooner_Ace says:

BS said “Business Decisions are business decisions” My read MS and the minion are cleaning out offices soon

  • J Proz says:

Not sure I know the actual answer to this, but did we just pay for 1 year of college for DGB and get nothing back or did his scholarship not start until he actually played? As someone said below, “thanks for nothing”.

    • Sooner_Ace says:

in a word …yep..oh and the bad press it brought as well

    • paganpink says:

Bob says he contributed a lot on the Scout team and won Scout team player of the week “about every other week” Still doesn’t seem like much of a return for taking another teams reject and all the bad PR. But he says he knows him as a person and he has had good grades and done what was asked. Bob says he went into it with “eyes wide open” that he may choose to leave. He still has to be disappointed that he was paid back for sticking his neck out by DGB boltinG for the NFL.

      • J Proz says:

So everyone paid for one year of school, from which he will NEVER get a degree (from anywhere!). I guess we gained the continued ability to dream……what might have been. I certainly hope the program will learn from this and try to get something back from all that they do give.

  • JJSoona says:

Dayuummm people, can we clean this up a bit?? If you can live in a glass house, keep the s*&t flowing. Wait and see where it goes!!!

    • Sooner_Ace says:

      ????

      • JJSoona says:

Ace, its business. I don’t get so many making this so personal. Separate issues, institute change and move on. In a business fashion. I for one, am grateful for what these guys have done and sad that things didn’t work out. That’s all. Its still a business and professional outcome

        • Sooner_Ace says:

JJ understood, some are just more…”expressive” to phrase it kindly, I can get worked up by some the coach speak etc. That being said, I think dont i fall into the overly “expressive” camp πŸ™‚

    • SCKSChief says:

Why are we not allowed to be displeased with the current state of affairs? For all intents and purposes this is the end of changes. Your assumptions that more changes are to come are, in no way, different than those taking Bob at his word.

      • JJSoona says:

Indeed you are Chief. Just as I am, but the solely personal attacks and insults are totally uncalled for. Things didn’t work out…..make some changes and move on. Its not personal.

  • bjwalker82 says:

I don’t understand the Anthony Wheeler decision then.

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Reporters ran out of questions a long time ago…

  • ccmosaic says:

Stuart Scott question today? Guys this is not the question to ask at this press C.

  • Jordan Esco says:

thank goodness they got everyone here today so we could get Bob’s thoughts on Stuart Scott’s passing (RIP, btw)

  • Peabody Thekat says:

Methinks Bob sez if Mike goes…I go too.

  • SoonerSouthoftheRed says:

My favorite part was not hearing Eshbach’s nails on a chalkboard voice.

  • Jordan Esco says:

    And that’s a wrap.

Still trying to digest, but I can’t even begin to describe my level of rage over the fact he has said there will be no more changes to the staff. There isn’t a m-f’ing defensible explanation for bringing back this defensive staff intact. No a f’ing one.

    • MrBigsby says:

      Preach it!!

    • CoachTalk says:

      Give it time… It’ll happen

    • Defend Colfax says:

Never been in a boardroom eh?

    • OUhound says:

Yeah well, I still feel like…… “There’s 45 minutes that I’ll never get back”. What were the revelations again here? No DGB and that’s all the head chopping…..for now.

    • SCKSChief says:

But they’re aren’t “intact”…not in Bob’s eyes anyway. Monty is now CO DC!!!!

    • Sooner_Ace says:

The def changes will come, baby steps my friend

    • soonerbred4ever says:

take a deep breath Jordan. It’s not brain cancer.

    • Doobie74OU says:

AGREEEEEEEDDDDDDDDD! They allowed 26 point per game and lost 5! In 3 of those 5 loses the offense scored 30 or more points and we fired coaches from the offensive coaching staff (which I agree needed to change)! If he was just going to fix one side of the ball it should have been the DEFENSE FOR SURE!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I think it’s important to consider the averages of the offenses OU played and what those teams averaged prior to playing OU. The question ought to be “Did OU hold them under their averages or not?” Case in point, the TCU game. TCU averaged what 47? OU held them to 30. Since every FBS team is having trouble against today’s offenses, I think we need to rethink what a good defensive game is.

      • Double G says:

Can’t pin 3 (maybe 4) of those losses on the defense bro.

TCU we lost by 4 points. Offense threw two INTs (one was a pick 6) and went 7 of 18 on 3rd down. Defense blocked a PAT for a score and forced back to back fumbles inside the TCU 30 yard line with almost 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter, but we couldn’t get it done. That loss was on the offense.

KSU we lost by 1 point. Offense threw two INTs (one was a pick 6, the other was in the redzone when we were going to score) and had a PAT blocked. Special teams missed two field goals, including a 19 yarder to win the game. That loss was on the offense and speical teams.

OSU we lost by 3 points in OT. Offense fumbled the ball once inside the 30 and went 8 of 17 on 3rd down. Defense picks off OSU to ice an ugly game, offense goes 3 and out. Then we have that horrible re-kick . . . and the offense disappears in OT. That loss was on the coaches (because of the decision to re-kick), but the offense sure didn’t do a whole lot after Perine got hurt to help secure a victory.

Clemson, the offense never got off of the bus. The defense didn’t play well, but when the only players that actually came to play the game are your FB (Ripkowski) and your true freshman running back (who was recovering from injury)

        • Krys Allen says:

          All good points

        • Double G says:

Computer messed up and I lost my cursor when trying to fix the last part of my comment when I went to edit it.

What the Clemson portion of my post should have said is below.

Clemson, the offense never even got off the bus. The defense didn’t play well, but I can’t blame them after the offense threw 3 INTs (one a pick 6), and fumbled twice (once inside the redzone). Also hurts when when of your defensive lineman makes a beautiful play on a ball, picks it off, and the points come off the board because of a penalty – instantly killing the only momentum we might have gained in that game. The only guys I saw that even looked like they were trying out there were Perine and Ripkowski (and Perine was still recovering from injury).

The only game our defense can truly be blamed for losing is the Baylor game. Outside of that, they gave us the opportunities to win over and over again. So I’d say that the firings on the offensive side of the ball make sense, even if they did average almost 36 points a game. No QB development, no WR development, and an inability to adjust the game plan during a game made it more than necessary.

Defense needs work, especially in the secondary, but they were far from the main reason we lost the majority of our games this year.

        • Doobie74OU says:

I said in many other posts about the needed changes on offense this was just one post saying that the defense needs major changes as well!

          • Double G says:

I hear you, just wanted to make sure we hadn’t lost you to the pitch fork weilding group that has been on suicide watch since about 3 minutes into this morning’s press conference!

I think that, like a few others have suggested, more changes are coming. Bob is just giving folks time to either a.) find a new job or b.) leave “gracefully” on their own before telling us anything else. He’s a loyal guy and that explaination of the coaching changes made so far makes sense when you consider how hard firing people who are close to him is for him.

He’s going to make the right changes for the program and because I am confident he will do that (even if it’s tough for him to do), I have no problem with Bob making those changes on his terms.

          • Doobie74OU says:

Agreed to everything! I’m not even one clamoring that Mike Stoops has to be gone! I still believe when he is on his game there is nobody better than Mike Stoops but he has seemed derailed a bit the past couple years but when he gets his defense rolling it is a sight to behold! I just think we need fresh minds and fresh ideas. Tim Kish is not a Bob Stoops guy and they have been saying for years that BJW will move into a administrative position when he quits coaching. I would like to get a couple of fresh faces on the LBs and DBs. I think that is one of the areas it helps to have young energetic coaches and recruiters cause those two positions are about attitude. In todays football you are going to give up some plays the way the ball is thrown around by everybody but you got to have the confidence/arrogance and swagger to come back the next play and shut them down!

          • Double G says:

Agree 100%! And I also agree that we need fresh faces coaching the DBs and LBs. Those positions are completely about attitude and with the way we run our defense (when it’s firing on all cylinders) they have to have it.

And it’s not a Suh or Oakman, cheapshotting type attitude I want to see either. I’m talking about the “I don’t care how good you are, you’re not making a play on my side of the line of scrimmage” attitude; the “go ahead, hit me in the mouth again because I’m going to hit you right back” attitude; the “I just shut you down and it was easy” attitude.

I want that attitude because that’s the type of attitude that crushes opposing offenses even if things aren’t going OUr way. It’s the kind of attitude that can bounce back from a bust in coverage or a missed tackle. And it’s the kind of attitude that displays confidence, toughness, and power without being arrogant, dirty, or disrespectful.

I don’t think we have enough of that on our defense right now and if we do, I haven’t seen it.

    • Cooper Jones says:

He has to give Mike a chance to find another job and leave for it rather than be fired. At least that’s my hope.

    • RBear says:

He didn’t rule out “changes”. Go back to the beginning where he said (paraphrasing here) that this is a weird time of the year in this profession, things happen (change). He left the door open for staff to leave of their own accord which makes it easier on him as far as being the bad guy.

    • Big Higg says:

Thinking you may have just been trolled with Bob Stoops being the troll. My gut tells me Mike will be gone soon

    • Boom says:

C’mon Jordan, take a deep breath. You’re supposed to be a responsible one here with keeping things realistic. Your emotions are way out of wack.

    • Mizuno44 says:

Jordan I didn’t realize as a Moderator you were allowed to pick sides πŸ™‚

  • Mizuno44 says:

In all fairness and to not take his statements out of context, he referred to the #6 ranking and the Sugar Bowl win to measure against the results this season, and that it’s unacceptable. He clearly has committed to making serious changes on the offensive side of the ball, admittedly allowing someone to bring in “their system”, which I also think verifies he’s going after a big time OC candidate. Come on people, when is the last time an elite program fired both their OC and DC’s? Our offense can become explosive once again relieving some of the glitches defensively, and it will allow more time to build out the 3-4 scheme over time, get the right guys recruited for it, etc. Tired of reading all of the negativity after every dad gum thing, cheer up!

    • SCKSChief says:

      No

    • MrBigsby says:

Therein lies the problem. They AREN’T recruiting to it!! What, 1 LB in this class and you want to play 4? Defensive coaches are NOT getting it done.

      • Mizuno44 says:

1 LB in this class so far, signing day isn’t until February 4th. Not to mention, we snagged three quality LB’s last year. I did mention defense is a work in progress, wouldn’t you rather put more points on the board immediately?

    • boomersooner says:

Amen. Started sounding like a website geared toward girls getting their 1st period. Had to recheck I was in the right place

    • pomodisqus says:

Mizuno44 gets it… Refreshing to see logic prevail over wildly irresponsible emotional ranting…

    • Clint says:

I anticipate Oklahoma going back to either a base 4-3 or 4-2-5 in the spring.

      • hemisooner says:

And where would you put striker or DeBerry or Obo or Bond. Those guys are best when they rush the passer and none of those guys can play a DE except maybe DeBerry

    • Indy_sooner says:

The defense was bad but at least it was okay a year ago. but that god awful Meerkat thing….that was infuriating and has been there for ages.

  • leatherneck1061 says:

We learned absolutely nothing new from this presser. What a complete waste of 45 minutes.

    • Billy says:

TV news is for those who don’t actively seek it on the Internet.

    • pomodisqus says:

ESPN added two new important updates to their news ticker after Bob’s presser. Are you more of a visual learner?

      • leatherneck1061 says:

Seeing that ESPiN is your source of sports news, I am not at all surprised by your question.

  • Peabody Thekat says:

Yea.. I think more change will be a trickling effect.
OU don’t want it to look like a total housecleaning? ? ? ?

  • OUhound says:

OK I will admit that I thought this presser just might be different. I expected some huge announcement, something akin to Kennedy announcing to the nation that there are nuclear missiles in Cuba. Instead………oh well.

  • Indy_sooner says:

Happy that Coach M got promoted. Think Bob was looking for a way to get him a raise… And he deserves every single cent of it.

    • paganpink says:

Yes he does deserve it and it seems like a lot of folks forget that that is a way of getting more money to a great coach without changing his responsibilities much. Although I hope they do give him a lot more of the responsibility! Very impressed with the guy.

    • Daddy R says:

I think there may have been serious, serious interest in Monty from other teams, and this is how Bob got him to stay. I think most of us agree with Bob, that monty is definitely a rising star.

  • soonerthunder says:

do you that it is possible that OU would go after both cumbie and meacham as co-Os?

  • Billy says:

So… Hopefully mike finds a job?

  • thebigdroot says:

From what I’m hearing (I know, annonymous sources) but just want to put it out there. Mike is looking for a HC position, actively looking. Like something is in the works type of looking.

  • bjwalker82 says:

TFB what do you know about further staff changes? Are we really done?

    • Jordan Esco says:

We’ve heard at least two more were coming, but based on what Bob said today who the hell knows.

      • RBear says:

Retirements/reassignments and folks leaving the program for other gigs are different than dismissals so… stay tuned?

      • ellisbr says:

then I think at least 2 more are coming. if he would have said that at the conference without saying names he would have never been able to get past that question, look how long it took him to get away from his personal time ?…that guy just wasn’t giving up.

    • JJSoona says:

      Wait for it…….

  • leatherneck1061 says:

Don’t know why I’m so disappointed we didn’t get any new information from BS….as though he ever gives us anything but coach-speak at these things anyway.

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

So are we back to waiting now? πŸ™

  • William Ryan says:

If kish isnt next there is a problem hes not a good x and o guy nor a great recruiter

    • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

Based on your expert experience as a coach? Are you a coach?

      • boomersooner says:

Supposedly we can’t ask that anymore. We just have to let em bitch. I believe someone said “who are we to question their questioning?” I’m half kidding

        • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

If Will Ryan is very knowledgeable of defensive tactics, then I’d like “him” to help us understand what is wrong with OU’s defense. I don’t know the technical details on why OU struggled. K and JY do this very nicely. If “he” doesn’t know much of anything about defensive tactics, then the most prudent approach would be to not make claims that imply intimate knowledge of something.

          • boomersooner says:

Amen. I’m with you. Just being silly since the pessimists are the “realists” and optimists have the plague or whatever we got this week

  • SoonerCub18 says:

The bottom line here is that Bob doesn’t want to step on his brother’s toes. It’s obvious to everyone where the changes needed to be made. No way Kish should still be on this staff. LBs have not developed and he sure as heck can’t recruit. Bob whiffed at the opportunity to make the right moves. He only got it half right. We can only hope that there will be more changes in the near future. If not, all he’s done is attempt to plug one of two holes in a sinking ship.

    • Peabody Thekat says:

Bob told Boren he will NOT fire Mike. ? ? ? ?

      • paganpink says:

I’m sure Boren leaves it up to Bob to fix what’s wrong. And if it doesn’t get fixed it’s Bob’s job on the line as well. That’s just the way it works. Give him enough freedom to fix the problem and if he can’t he knows it was his baby all the way and his failure as well, not something forced on him. I think Bob has a year to show a lot of progress or it IS him. I thought at the time of the Alabama win that that was a “two year” win regardless of what happened later! I do think he will fix it. And if he doesn’t then he has no one to blame but himself.

  • Defend Colfax says:

OMG! The internet moves faster than real life? Shock. So much shock

  • rphokc says:

    verysurprised/ disappointing for d…………half a loaf…….

  • Sooner786 says:

Will DGB say “University of Oklahoma” or “University of Missouri” on Sunday Night Football, if he makes it? Maybe “School of Hard Knocks”?

  • SoonerCub18 says:

Anyone want to take a stab at what Bob meant by “a change of direction” of the offense? Is he referring to the idea that Hueple didn’t know how to call zone read/pass offense and wants someone who can? Or does he mean he wants to change the style of offense to more of a spread? If that is the case, I’m not sure we have any of those QBs on campus. And I’m definitely not sold on Mayfield. His body of work at TT is nothing to boast about.

    • ccmosaic says:

Right after talking about change in the direction he started talking about QBs that can throw the ball. I think we are about to see us go back to passing the ball and finding QBs that can pass first. He did say if they can run that is an extra. Bob wants to pass the dang ball and he wants a QB coach that can hello us get there as well as WR coach that can get kids open.

      • leatherneck1061 says:

What’s confusing about that is JH coached Sam, and he threw the ball pretty darn well. Don’t understand why not just demote JH back to what he was doing before.

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Taking a step down has a drastic affect on ones career. It implies lack of ambition and passivity.

          • leatherneck1061 says:

True. From JH’s perspective, it’s probably better to go make his bones as an OC at a lower tier program.

        • Tulsa Terry says:

Sam had an all pro offensive line.

          • leatherneck1061 says:

He did indeed. But I would also say he did a much better job at decision making. Trevor’s protection this year hasn’t exactly been terrible.

        • Randy Hilliard says:

Heupel would not have taken a demotion. It would have not have been fair to the new coach.

      • SoonerCub18 says:

That’s how I interpreted it as well. However, I’ve always thought Trevor could throw the ball. I felt like he wasn’t put in the right situations to allow him to succeed this year. The play calling did not remotely resemble what we saw last year. I agree on the WRs. None of them could get open, except for Shepard. It was a combination of several things that caused Trevor to have a down year, IMO.

    • Sooner_Ace says:

could be as simple as change of voice/messenger…

    • hOUligan says:

A bit confused about it too. Implied they were heading the direction on offense that Bob wants to go and Josh wasn’t the guy to get them there. Then says, again, as long as he is at OU he will favor a strong passing game. Which direction is this offense going?

    • DCinAZ says:

I think he means somebody that actually has an offensive philosophy and system of their own instead of a cobbled together, incoherent, hodge podge offense consisting of parts of multiple offenses bolted on to the Leach offense to form what is currently our frankenoffense.
In other words, he is actually going to hire a true OC with an actual offensive system and not just hand the playbook off to somebody else like he has since 2001.

  • Exiled In Ohio says:

My guess is that MS is looking for a new job, and that he would take Kish with him. Even if not, the new DC would bring in his own team and Kish would be gone. So … if that is what BS thinks is going to happen, why fire any of those guys now? Likewise with BJW, he can gracefully step down when the new DC arrives.

If my wild guess is true, then no one on the defensive side would go through the humiliation of being fired, but they would still be gone. But nothing happens till MS gets the new job.

  • Easton says:

The press is so dam relentless in their pursuit of publishing a story that will be forgotten 3 hours after its published. These pressers are grueling to me because of the questions. Bob Stoops is a great man. Thats all.

  • Sooner_Ace says:

Playing devils advocate, if Monty and and MS stay co-def coordinators ( think MS is gone for the record ) Do you think the actual play calling will be held with Monty ?( I hope so)

    • SCKSChief says:

      No

    • ccmosaic says:

Yes, Monty will be the play caller on D. If Mike some how stays he will work with DBs under the guidance of JM. I do however think we will see a new DC to work with Jerry.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

I agree. I think MS is gone if a job comes up in the next week or two. Otherwise, performance next season will determine the outcome.

  • sooners12thman says:

Jerry Montgomery got upped also a scapegoat for Mike Stoops to be able to stay.

  • leatherneck1061 says:

On a different note, when it comes to the D I’m still excited to see what JM can do with Gallimore.

    • Mizuno44 says:

Without question, excellent point. And, he’s getting the guys HE wants for his scheme, and not done, hopefully nailing down some of the remaining LB’s we’re after.

  • OUhound says:

Anybody see that unbelievably low comment prior to the presser from Hoover that he was driving by Stoops’ house and it was still there? This guy is such a scoundrel.

    • ccmosaic says:

Hoover does a good job of asking the hard questions we as fans want to be asked. But Hoover hates Bob with a passion. Hoover would have had a orgasm if Bob would have announced his retirement.

      • OUhound says:

Hoover also asks some really stupid questions. But from my perspective, he has no ability to be impartial.

  • Thomas Lenard says:

If MS is DC come Spring camp, I hope/wish/expect our D to be 4-3 again. MS was good at 4-3 and Nickel, and OU needs to get back to it. 3-4 D (or 50) did not produce what it was advertised to do.

    • hOUligan says:

Shift to 3-4 need based due to lack of dlinemen but got some good results blitzing Stiker out of it. Now OU is stocking up on dline with coach Monty. Maybe back to 4-3 or 4-2-5?

    • Sooner_Ace says:

the switch was made to the 3-4 due to lack of lineman, now we have a lack of LB, what’s next a 3-3-5? not in favor of the 3-3-5 fwiw

  • M Shuster says:

Mike Stoops and Tim Kish need to go. Linebacking is awful. Defense is lost and has lost any fire. Mike Stoops still being around is a major problem. We scored plenty of points to win most games. Defense is why we lost the season!

    • Mizuno44 says:

Interesting note, look at our final recruit list for both 2012 and 2013, not one LB signed. This problem at LB didn’t start overnight, 2014 we got three but clearly need more.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

There are 12 LB’s listed on the active.

        • Sooner_Ace says:

and a bunch CB’s that never see the field too

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Yeah. Just sayin! Where’s Stavon? Cortez? These guys were overrated or what? Frustrated.

        • Mizuno44 says:

I was referring to the final commitment lists from 2012 & 2013, not the active roster.

        • Mizuno44 says:

fyi, I was referring to the 2012 & 2013 final recruitment signee lists, not the active roster

        • Mizuno44 says:

fyi, I was referring to the 2012 & 2013 final recruitment lists, not the active roster. Just wanted to point out the lull during those years in recruiting at that position which are very evident now.

    • Sureyoubet says:

actually, with the exception of the Baylor game, the defense played well enough to win the rest. Offense and special teams lost K-State, TCU and OSU. Texas game was won in spite of the worst offensive performance in years. Neither side showed up for Clemson.

      • RBear says:

D did not look good this year, period (consistently good)

        • Daddy R says:

Agreed. But also agree with point above, they did play well enough to win all but the baylor and clemson game. though I wouldnt call it “well.”

          • RBear says:

I’d add the texas game to that, they did not play well enough for us to win, texas gave that game away

          • Daddy R says:

            True.

          • BleedCrimson says:

Or you could say that the Defense won the game with Sanchez pick six

          • RBear says:

That’s called “spin”! Check the box score, it doesn’t lie.

          • BleedCrimson says:

Yes, I agree for the most part.
We won despite the offense. Texsa had the ball 37+min of a 60 min game. It is tough to win a game with that stat. I felt at the time, the D did enough to keep them out of the endzone. Hated watching the inept offense.

          • Sureyoubet says:

And remember… look at the teams in the playoffs. Alabama is the gold standard for defense in this era. And they couldn’t stop Ohio State in a game where lack of motivation was not an excuse. I was as frustrated as anyone with our defense, but everyone is struggling. The lack of production on offense, when lots of other teams, freshman quarterbacks and all, are putting up points with relative ease, is by far a bigger problem.

      • Sooner_Ace says:

Respectfully disagree, when needed the D failed and the O failed, and ST failed. Is all lost, certainly not. 1/3 the equation is being addressed right now, a 1/3 is being reviewed, and the last 1/3 may go back to alma mater texsa

  • Michael Darling says:

For all of the people dogging Bob’s presser, I thought it was solid. I hate when people rag on him for bringing up the Alabama game, but I’d do the same thing. That was a huge win and it was recent. It’s not like he’s bringing up the 2000 NC game. Recruits liked positive coaches. I wouldn’t want to go play for a coach that (publicly) says we suck. We all know Bob has the “we sucked this year” discussions behind closed doors.

Second, Bob’s attitude in the presser was fiery. I liked it and I like the changes he’s made thus far. Hopefully there’s more on the defensive side, but this is a giant step forward.

    • OUhound says:

Sir, I respectfully disagree. It reminded me of a government presser where you only are told everything that you already knew. Other than confirmation that DGB would not return, exactly what did you learn in that presser?

      • Defend Colfax says:

He’s not going to announce firings that aren’t out yet. So what else did you want?

        • OUhound says:

I thought he’d announce firings. Why not? I don’t see the need for the mystery or why he can’t be the guy doing the announcing. Exactly what was the mind blowing revelation you received in this presser that was promised and billed as historical?

    • Easton says:

      Indeed sir.

    • ccmosaic says:

Bob did a great job today. I was very impressed with him taking ownership of the season and his willingness to make the changes on O. Changes on D will happen this year but he was not going to announce something before it was fully settled.

    • SamSooner says:

I agree. I could tell this was hard on Bob. The hard part was over: having that discussion with Jay and Josh must have been difficult.

The presser should have been a slam dunk but it wasn’t. I would work for Bob any day. The man has what we all want our leaders to have: genuine concern and loyalty.

  • kt-raida says:

Mike did very well with Venables as Co coordinators .Mike has had a rough go but i think he will right the ship with Montgomery by his side…..Kish must go though.

    • leatherneck1061 says:

Agreed Kish must definitely go. And I think I’d be interested in at least trying an arrangement where JM calls the plays and Mike focuses on coaching the secondary.

  • OUknowitscomin says:

Sheesh. I’m concerned about some of you having children. Wife pushes once & you’ll be freakin out catastrophic because it didn’t come out. Grab the Doc by the neck & demand a C-section NOW!

    • SCKSChief says:

      Ummm…no…?

    • boomersooner says:

Yikes. One guy was talking about how long it is til signing day. Since when is a month a long time? I guess being born in the internet age spoils some people. They sound like veruca salt or whatever her name is from willy wonka

  • OUhound says:

I know he is popular, but I really thought we’d see BJW out the door. Our secondary was an absolute train wreck. And playing the kids 10 yards off the receiver 90% of the time certainly didn’t help matters in the least.

    • ccmosaic says:

He will be out the door. They are currently trying to make room for him in the administrative role that Marv currently holds.

      • OUhound says:

That would make sense. But where did you hear it?

        • ccmosaic says:

Sooner Scoop insiders had that bug put in their ear. Mike is another story all together. No one either knows or no one is talking in fear of what Bob might do to them if he found out the source.

  • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

I would not prefer an Air Raid disciple.

I still want Scott Frost, regardless of whether it’s a dream. Gonna wish on an eyelash later…

  • Dixdotcom says:

Have we seen a defense spend more time on the field b/c of an inept offense then this year? Couldn’t buy a 1st down in the 2nd half against TCU, Defense won the game against Texas spending 40 minutes on the field b/c we couldn’t get a first down. There isn’t going to be a ‘no fly zone’ defense in the Big 12. There can only be a fast aggressive D that has to be rested to get to the QB. Offense put up a lot of stat stuffer numbers this year against Tulsa, Kansas and Iowa St. When it counted we couldn’t get it done on O. (TCU,KSU,Baylor)
PASSING YARDS 203.5 rank:85th Huep and Norvel gone
RUSHING YARDS 261.2 rank: 11th Bendy and Gundy staying

  • LKS says:

Agree about too much negativity here. We need time to let the dust settle and find some positives.

  • Bob Edwards says:

So summary. Bob is cleaning house. Bob talks to people affected trying to give them time to find a good landing place. Someone lets it out that Norvell has been fired. Bob has to come out and say something about that, so Bob calls a press conference to deal with that issue. Bob says something about that issue. Internet panics because he did not say everything about everything. Got it.

  • SamSooner says:

Here’s a thought: if in fact Kish can coach LBs, maybe the plan is to let Jerry Montgomery recruit for the front seven: linemen and LBs.

  • SCKSChief says:

Well, I’m out. Utterly depressed. Work ought to be fruitful now…

  • Trent Kaufmam says:

Outside of the Baylor and Clemson game the D was not awful, perhaps average. The offense, outside of the run game was outright awful all season. Not sure what everyone expected today, Stoops was not going to fire half his staff. I could see another change or 2 on the defensive side of the coaching staff coming at a latter date, after signing day. They have lacked talent and depth and development at wr since 2009 it was time for Jay to move on. Josh was in over his head, it was to big of a job for him.

    • Fear the Magic says:

I respectfully disagree. The D was awful through much of the year not just the Baylor and Clemson games. I’ve been watching OU football for quite a few years now and I cant ever remember thinking that when the other team had a 3rd and 15 that they would more than likely make a first down.
      Truly awful.

  • Jim says:

Quick summary confirmation request, please (been busy as hell at work):
    1. Norvell and Heupel are gone
    2. Mike Stoops, BJW, and Kish are all still here
    3. Monty now co-defensive coordinator

    Is this correct?

  • Bob Edwards says:

People also need to realize that Bob needs to be careful what he says in public about those being let go. In our litigious society he or the university could be sued if they did damage to someone’s future job chances. Many big companies won’t let you give references for people out of fear of being sued by the employee if you give a negative reference and the company if you give a positive reference and the person doesn’t work out. I would not expect him to give out information about anything that was not already public to some degree.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

I liked hearing about Bob and the University supporting what it takes financially to bring someone in.

  • Daddy R says:

These are exciting times! I’m really not sure why everyone is so animated and disappointed right now…

I agree we expected more changes on defense, but in all honesty, moving Monty up to co-DC is a HUGE change (not one I’m sure I agree with either, but..)
Who knows what will happen with his influence in that position. And I won’t be shocked if we lose more coaches, or if we don’t. Everyone being so hard on Kish, and I can’t argue against his perceived “lack of recruiting,” however, our linebacking play really wasn’t all that bad. Deberry and Shannon, along with J.Thomas could be a helluva unit next season.

I’m guessing Monty was promoted to keep him here for long-term. Stoops KNOWS his value and even said he is a “rising-star.” A point to which none of us contend… And who knows which teams may have already contacted Monty about becoming their DC right now.. Had to keep him.

Offensively, this couldn’t be more exciting! We should have an entire new system, and hopefully some “clutch” playcalling will come with that. A new chance to develop QB’s and WR’s… this is what most on here have been clamoring for.

Now, to hose who want Bob gone right now, my points are moot. But to those who wanted to give him another year or two, then let’s give him another year or two and let him do things his way, which is how he’s always done it.

    I’m actually really excited,
    BOOMER SOONER!!

    • paganpink says:

It’s not hard to imagine our defense being far more effective and even our season possibly being far different if Shannon hadn’t been suspended!

    • thebigdroot says:

Our LB’s couldn’t cover my Grandma,

    • Easton says:

      Nice. NICE.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

      Well done.
I think you are spot on. I too will not be surprised if spring practice starts with a different coaching lineup than what we see today. I suspect Mike is still looking, but don’t necessarily expect him to go. I suspect Kish will be interviewing at the coaching convention next week and I expect BJW to promoted out of his current role.

    • Indy_sooner says:

J.Thomas is a CB. I’m assuming you meant Evans? But yes, Bond too has been good and Curtis Bolton is on there as well. That being said, if this year showed us anything is that you absolutely need depth at LB . Most (I included) are mad at Kish for whiffing on primary targets at positions of urgency especially with folks that were at one time strong OU leans. Grissom is gone and after this year, we lose Shanon, Striker and Bond.
Last year, the depth in the trenches was a question, B and M fixed that quickly. Same cannot be said of the LB side with a month remaining before NSD

  • Fear the Magic says:

I havent scrolled through the discussion on here. Too many posts and Im at work lol but did anyone else find it “interesting” that Bob acted like he didnt know that DGB hadnt announced that he was leaving for the NFL? I was thinking…sure…you didnt know that Bob?

  • Sam Philbeck says:

I fully expect this site to have a countdown clock to when Bob leaves with the way most are acting today lol. I’m in the majority or minority whatever it may be that thinks more changes are coming, namely on defense, if not then I’ll be upset about it as well, but I’m not doomsdaying just yet.

  • Glocal Sooner says:

I will say this about the presser, we all knew that Heupel and Norvell had been let go. So that wasn’t new but I thought Stoops would have the replacements to announce during the presser. No big surprise that no defensive changes were announced because apparently nothing has been done yet. Appears that accurate information is leaked pretty quick so I’m sure we’ll know what’s up before any “official” announcements are made.

    • Easton says:

Measured and methodical, within the Spirit of doing right by good people. This is one the of the reasons I am behind Stoops.

      • eastoksooner says:

Yeah, we all know Bob is not gonna throw his people under the bus. I respect that but we need changes on defense too. Hopefully they are coming.

  • Rene Goupillaud says:

Random thoughts. First, this can’t be all the changes. Second, first and foremost we need a Qb and so replacing the co-OCs is a priority. This w I’ll enable kids to evaluate their new coach before signing day. Third, not likely that any defensive signee, not already committed, is so important that he needed to move right away. Four, gives time for guys to look for another job, something Bob would want to do. Five, I would disagree with Bob’s public position on DGB. He should be very disappointed that he gave the kid a home and the kid didn’t repay him. In the future, some other kid won’t get the opportunity because coaches will realize it’s not worth it. If DGB had really grown up, he wouldn’t leave for the draft (IMHO), but then I’m old school.

    • Greg sparks says:

It obivious Mike wants out, and Bob is going to let him choose how that happens. So giving the reigns to JM allows him to contact all recruits and keep everybody in the fold. I expect the new OC to be hired soon and a qb commit there after, I really believe that was JH nail in the coffin. And DGB, yeah I bet they thought he was going to play this year can’t really blame him for not sticking around, he could be the first WR picked. He would’ve looked so good in Crimson.

      • BigJoeBrown says:

That is what I think as well with Mike. You don’t do job interview’s if you are pleased or feel good with were you are at. Bob, is giving Mike the time to find something else, if he can.

        • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

Right. And re-shuffle BJW to an admin position is the rumor. Then, Bob will be forced to get new DCs.

I still think Mike can do the job, but with a proper DB coach. Or just get back to being aggressive with his DBs.

Another thought is that Bob told Mike if we wants to leave he has his support. If he wants to stay, he better fix the D.

All speculation and wild musings by me.

          • RBear says:

IDK, didn’t Mike actually go with an alignment that had ZERO LB’s in it at one point in ’13? Grasping at straws.

  • Mark Evans says:

Leaving this defensive staff intact is a recipe for mediocrity. Good start but the job is not complete in my estimation. This is only cleaning a room, not cleaning the house.

    • bjwalker82 says:

      Why Boulware?

      • Sooner_Ace says:

he has been offered a coaching gig at texsa (his alma mater) I think

        • bjwalker82 says:

I hope he stays. The Special teams immediately got better once he arrived.

          • Bill Duncan says:

His special teams was great at Auburn too…. keep him

          • SCKSChief says:

Not arguing. Punt returns MUST improve next year though. STs is likely a symptom of poor roster construction and misses on recruits. Lots of tired starters running down the field or too many under-skilled bench players in. I don’t know which…leaning toward the prior

          • Mark Evans says:

Sooo agree with this SCKSChief! WAY too many starters on OUr special teams. Just my opinion.

          • territorysooner says:

87 total yards in punt returns vs 181 by our opponents. Our longest punt return was for 18 yards. Regression of one of the best kickers in OU history. 2 blocked PATs. No KO return longer than 36 yards after the Texas game. How much better did we get?

          • soonermusic says:

According to statistics (Phil Steele), OU’s special teams were ranked 16th in 2011; 14th in 2012; and 34th in Boulware’s first year.

Due primarily to the exceptional kick returning of Ross this year, they were much better this season. But to say that they were poor before Boulware arrived, or that they immediately improved, imho, is incorrect.

      • Mark Evans says:

Great ?? BJ. I regretted that one when I realized we don’t really know much since his position players never really had opportunities as receivers. However, they blocked well in the run game. Josh apparently has ZERO use for the tight end (passing) which is mind-numbing considering how TE’s have historically torched our D between the hash marks.

      • MrBigsby says:

93 punt return yards in 13 games. No TE game to speak of.

        • bjwalker82 says:

And how many PR yards did he have last year? TE position at least existed this year. Blake Bell was our best receiver behind Shep.

How many KR and PR yards and TDs have we allowed since he got here? Now go look at the prior two years.

He brings in good recruits and he’s demonstrated his ability to immediately change our team for the better.

I reiterate. I want him to stay.

        • BleedCrimson says:

Bell was open a lot, but seldom targeted. That is not on positon coach

    • Easton says:

Good graphic work Mark. I think the pieces are going to fall into place, in a good way.

    • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

Interesting. Fire almost everyone and start over. Completely realistic.

    • MrBigsby says:

I think you need a redcircle/slash thru Jerry Schmidt too.

    • Jared William Reininger says:

I don’t agree with Boulware….I hear he rubs other coaches and some players the wrong way but our TE position was WAY better. Our Special Teams was WAY better, go ahead and bring up Hunnicutt, but I think that was a personal thing where it got in his head.

      • MrBigsby says:

Special teams better? Did you miss the part about 93 punt return yards on the season? That’s 13 games and 93 punt return yards. And the TE position was virtually non-existent. Blake Bell was under utilized. He should have been a safety valve the QB all season and he was rarely targeted.

        • Jared William Reininger says:

You completely miss that our kickoff returning was among the best in the nation.

The punt returns, by my understanding, was due to so many fair catches because they didn’t want Shephard or sanchez getting hurt.

The tight ends is on heupEl because they weren’t utilized enough. Blake bell was wide open A LOT. And their blocking was pretty good. So I would say it’s miles ahead of not even playing them. Heupel being gone and bringing in new blood may give boulware the chance to show what the tight ends can do .

And he grabbed us the best kicker in the nation for next year.

          • MrBigsby says:

I wasn’t aware that Boulware was the one recruiting Seibert, so I’ll give him that, even though most schools don’t even offer full schollies to kickers. But the problem with our good KO returns is practice makes perfect. Meaning the other team was scoring and giving us too many opportunities!

      • Mark Evans says:

Justify ANY part of your comment Jared. I would agree as I mentioned above, we don’t really have great info on his coaching results given Josh rarely used TE’s in the passing game. However, their run blocking was generally superb. If I did my graphic over, I would leave coach Boulware off the list. Agree that Hunnicutt’s missteps were not on Coach B, just something that affects all kickers eventually. (and hopefully sporadically)

        • Jared William Reininger says:

I meant I didn’t agree with the graphic. I don’t think boulware should be gone. That’s all. I agree with the rest of your graphic.

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

To be honest, I’d be okay with Mike staying, but ONLY if they replace Kish and BJW.

  • pag says:

    i’m just wondering,If Mike wasn’t Bob’s brother , he would still be here…

  • Roy C says:

I think the reason for the press conference is so he could tell the fans how upset he is with the current situation and he hasn’t been sleeping. He has the fire that he had when he started.
He has been getting a lot of heat for not sharing his feelings. Sounds like a consultant was used.

    • Herman Bubbert says:

Until Hoover brought up that ridiculous vacation. I’m sure the response to that left the consultant holding his head.

  • soonerbred4ever says:

If we had a productive offense this year , the damn defense wouldn’t have had to be on the field so much.

    • SCKSChief says:

I don’t think it’s that easy. I didn’t see them get off the field very often early in games. Hurt themselves a lot.

    • Jared William Reininger says:

I agree but truth is our secondary was pretty bad. Our linebackers weren’t very physical. Our DLine was by far our strongest position group on defense.

  • Defend Colfax says:

All this talk about which was worse offense or defense when really it doesn’t matter.

    We failed to compete.

    • Defend Colfax says:

Our coaches are really gonna have to test their mettle this year. What are we made of? Ohio State went 3 QBs deep to get to this point.

      • Peabody Thekat says:

If memory serves…Lavell Edwards at BYU gave scholarships to 18 QBs in one year alone. Of course before limits. When one didn’t pan out, they were turned into a TE, FB, LB or went packin’..

It just shows how important he thought getting a great QB was. And depth.

  • James D-Space says:

Bob did fine today. Do I feel like it was full disclosure? Heck no, but at the end of the day…. He knows that we know that promoting Monty to Assistant to the assistant isn’t going to solve all the issues.
However, it’s a start. I don’t believe that he is done. I suspect Mike could still leave or their could be some shuffling of responsibility.
I want to thank DGB for all the nothing that he gave us in his one year. Glad OU could give him room and board while he prepared for the NFL combines. However, the potential of getting Shannon for one more year makes me feel better. Buys a little time for the coaches to go recruit lb’s aggressively for the 2016 class.
Interesting that Bob wouldn’t elaborate on the new offensive style…. Makes me think that it would be a pretty easy guess on our part. As in, the new OC still has 1 game left in the season.
    My guess, Scott Frost!

    • leatherneck1061 says:

Aside from possibly more money, I can’t imagine why he would want to make a lateral move like that. However, I can see him perhaps wanting to use another university as leverage against Oregon to extort a raise.

      • Jeremy Phillips says:

if Frost isn’t calling plays at Oregon(Helfrich)… that could be a reason to leave as well… but if that’s the case, I wouldn’t want him… I want someone with play calling experience…

      • James D-Space says:

Very possible or just wishful thinking on my part.
I’ve read a couple of tweets indicating wheels down in Bowling Green.
Maybe Bob is indeed talking with the WKU OC.
IMO, if you’re going to fire Josh, you have to make a “homerun” hire. Right?
Heck who knows….. I’m good with whomever so long as he can score points, develop players and recruit like crazy. Have to trust Bob to make the right hire.

  • ellisbr says:

hey brainiacs, any news floating around out there? does what Bob said today seem to be truth or is he protecting other coaches that are searching new places of employment or potentially being showed the door?

  • Paul Lott says:

The retirement thing was kinda funny…I think everyone knew that wasn’t the case….any word on the incoming OC…also I heard that OU interviewed will muschamp. Or at least reached out to him…if so what’s that all about?

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Tidbit from Teddy Lehman show, there is a private flight log scheduled from Bowling Green Kentucky, to Oklahoma. Helton of WK?

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

I’m not convinced that there are more changes coming. It wouldn’t shock me if they were waiting on Bobby Jack Wright until after national signing day. After all you do have two excellent safeties as well as another highly rated corner that you don’t want to scare off. I don’t think it would happen, but you never know. It really seems like Doug meacham and sunny cumbie would be a perfect match for what we need. The question is can we draw them away from TCU? Money talks so let’s hope they pony up.

  • leatherneck1061 says:

I would also like to take this opportunity to say thanks for nothing to DGB. So glad our athletic department wasted a valuable scholarship on you so that we could be your stepping stone to an NFL career. We’re all busy with important business now, so please show yourself to the door.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

You sound like a baby posting about this multiple times. There was risk and reward for both OU and DGB. Bob appears comfortable with DGB leaving, so I don’t see any reason to bash the kid.

      • Jeremy Phillips says:

Thayer Evans said earlier today that DGB is still reviewing his NFL prospects and hasn’t made a final decision… having said that… he’s most assuredly gone…

      • leatherneck1061 says:

This is my first post on the subject.

        • MooseanzSqwirrul says:

About a guy in the public eye. I don’t see anything wrong with it. Don’t care myself but I can see where you’re coming from.

        • SoonerfanTU says:

Dude, just this morning you made a comment about him. I know, bc I replied to that post too.

          • leatherneck1061 says:

Then you should learn some reading comprehension before responding with tantrums. The only other comment I made about the kid was questioning the notion of “great character” concerning someone who had already assaulted a woman – whether here or anywhere else.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

So you were whining about him earlier, just like I said.

          • leatherneck1061 says:

Good grief. Do your parents know you are on the computer this late? You accused me of posting about “this” multiple times. Not “him”.

Yep. I think we’re done here.

      • Greg sparks says:

Agreed, let it go if you think the plan was for him to be here 2 yrs that’s not being realistic. Stoops said himself he helped the team by being the best teammate and scout player he could be, things don’t go to plan sometimes.

      • Billy says:

I have nothing to add that’s useful, but it bugs me when people call these adults kids.

      • Steve Johns says:

I wish all the best for DGB, just don’t want him to use OU as his “from” school – since he never played a down. He can use his HS or Mizzou.

  • Jeff says:

I bet if everyone on here sucked at there job like Kish does they would be fired!

  • nicjams says:

Firing both coordinators at the same time could be devastating to a team in my my opinion. Promoting Monty was probably the best move we could reasonably expect. To me, it’s a way for Bob to send a signal to Mike to let him know that he better get his stuff together or else. I still think Mike probably has a good mind for coaching, but he needs new influence. Kish and Wright need to go- They’re mostly useless and probably cause more harm than good at this point. Here’s to hoping for a slam dunk OC hire though! I’m excited to hear a real candidate list and not just speculation.

    • Doobie74OU says:

I would be excited to get three new offensive coaches! It would be great to get some new blood on that offensive side of the ball! A New QB Coach, a New WR Coach, and a OC/play caller! The more new minds and ideas in the offensive room the better! And agree Kish needs to be let go NOW!!!!! and BJW needs to move to some admin position, he is a good recruiter with a lot of connections and a loyal guy so he can become the new assoc. director of football operations or something but need new fresh coaches at LB & DB!

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

I really like the idea of a guy like Helton, totally unrelated to the current staff, his own offensive scheme and ideas… but I really wish he had more play calling experience, that’s the only thing preventing me from being all-in on him……

I would love to bring in all these “out of the box thinking” Offensive Minds!

  • Doobie74OU says:

Seems TFB are kind of quiet on this post today!?!? Maybe they still know something we don’t know! (please please I hope I hope I beg I beg)

  • soonerbred4ever says:

Barring changes we should probably have the best stable of running backs since Stoops has been here. Let’s hope whoever Bob brings in, will make good use of them.

  • JD says:

So is there still a chance the DGB comes back…just seen an article that he is in talks w the nfl to see if he will be affected by the new domestic violence policy…the nfl could tell him to go another year without issues ….or they could tell him it is up to the teams weather to pursue him or not…then it would come down to an agent working for him to get drafted earlier by the risk taking teams while some teams might not want to take the risk…I don’t think he’s coming back but if he hasn’t actually hired an agent yet there is still the slim slim chance that he would return…stayed tuned

Tyson Helton is great but please Bob, we can surely write a check that has proven themselves on a bigger stage… like a power 5 conference team!

    • James D-Space says:

      This^

      • JD says:

LOL I just arrowed you down

        • James D-Space says:

I see. I’d love to blame my phone, but truth is.., it’s Mike Stoops fault.

          • JD says:

Just messing with you…most threads you would have did it right but the board goes the other direction…kinda ironic considering this board is dif than other boards in more ways than one

          • Daddy R says:

at top of comments, under number of comments, click sort by Newest first…. not sure if your looking at different sort view, but it seems to “fix” thread view problems… Or maybe I’m confused and reading you wrong and if so, my bad and feel free to ignore me! lol

          • JD says:

I have mine set at “newest”..hence seeing his reply above the post his was trying to point at…lol…you have to do a lot worse for me to ignore you…you did point out that it can be view in dif ways though and so really it would be my bad to James if he were using the “oldest” option

          • Daddy R says:

So basically I’m just confused. “Well allriiiiighty then.. ” lol

EDIT: I see my mishap, and I was confused. but now I think I have it. This thread is backwards. HA!

          • JD says:

Justin posted something and James posted “this ^” but his post was “newer” than Justin’s so the “^” was pointing the wrong way from my view “newest”…he then replied to Justin and it looked normal to me because then the arrow was pointing to Justin…..did that clear things up or make worse LOL

          • Daddy R says:

I see! (said the blind man to the deaf woman.)

          • James D-Space says:

I think that I may be at fault on this….. My bad guys. Much easier to reply on the PC than the phone.

          • JD says:

No worries James..I agree about the phone

          • OU Boomer says:

If Mike Stoops would have caused it, it never would have happened. You would have been 8-10yds away from your phone when the action started…

          • James D-Space says:

            Oh my….
            Heehee

  • James D-Space says:

    This! ^

  • ruasoonerfan2 says:

  • Sooner Ray says:

700+ comments and no one here has managed to hire anyone yet…..I’m gonna eat some dinner, check back later.

  • mizzOUstu702 says:

Curious on the defensive side (assuming changes happen), is Jim Leavitt still too hot for the NCAA/Boren? He’s been coaching LBs for Harbaugh in San Fran for the past 4 years, and I’m assuming he’s looking for a job. Has the obvious Stoops/Snyder tie. Thoughts?

  • Mark Evans says:

A buddy of mine said the Tulsa Sports Animal was reporting an OU plane was waiting on Coach Helton to bring him back to Norman and announce him as the new OC. Anyone else hear that, or a version of it.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

The plane has been reported, but I don’t know that the deal is done or that it definitely is Helton.

As long as we don’t have another “on the job training” OC, I’ll feel we’ve made an improvement.

    • Zack says:

That’s what OKC sports animal was reporting also. I wouldn’t like that move as the oc unless it’s apparent when they interview him that he is extremely good at what he does. I would like him as either just the qb coach or just the wr coach and for us to make a big push for frost or meachem.

    • John Garner says:

Whoops! Just posted that I saw the flight plan for the aircraft at OUI. It’s originating from Kentucky so I’d have to believe it’s Tyson Helton.

  • curt gomer says:

Seems Bobs painted himself in a corner a little bit on D because if mike flops in 15 and Bob decides to get rid of MS Gonna be tough to land a big name DC with JM being co coordinator. Sorry if that been brought up, didn’t have a chance to read all the posts

    • Daddy R says:

IF Mike stays, AND flops in ’15, it aint gonna be just Mike leaving. Big bro is hedging his bets with little bro. And frankly, I commend that. Totally. If it fails, it fails, but he’s sticking with his bro. I’d do the same.

    • JD says:

IMO the D doesn’t have that much to fix…the glaring issue to me was coverages and playing too far back allowing quick pass completions…two years ago it was run D and pass D was good..now it’s opposite..these guys will fix it…another thing that will help the D is to keep them off the field longer…3 and outs and turnovers are killers for a D and a momentum changer…get some offense going and this D will feed and lock down

    • SoonerGoneEast says:

I don’t read too much in to titles, co or otherwise. What really establishes the pecking order are the zeros on the check. The titles are for ego’s and resumes. Example: BJW is the assistant head coach, but is one of the lowest paid coaches on staff. It’s unlikely his title provides him any authority beyond any of the others.

  • sooner8 says:

I thought Bob did the correct thing at this time. The offense was just plain vanilla compared to the other offenses I watched during the bowl games.I really think more changes are coming ,it is a matter of timing for the defensive side at this point!

    • Zack says:

Even though the defense was bad in regards to passing. It was good against the run but could get much better against the run. But ou under stoops is know for offense and the last couple years as been tough to watch. I think these moves buy him some time to get it right and I think Mike believes he will get it right. Next season a little bit more experience will be there in the secondary and the dline shouldn’t slip even with phillips gone there are solid guys who take up just as much space.

    • soonerthunder says:

I think we can throw out this past bowl game b/c I don’t think the coaches had their heart into it at all. I think they’d already been told they were leaving, and, as Jesus says, No one can serve two masters. They were looking for a job more than they were interested in winning the bowl game. In other words, I wouldn’t use that game as proof they weren’t good OCs or DCs. I think there is enough other evidence though.

  • SoonerinLondon says:

For defense, we should get Gary Patterson. I think he’d be good.

  • John Garner says:

Just saw where the flight plan for an aircraft leaving Kentucky for Norman tonight was posted at OUI. Sounds like Tyson Helton is coming in for a sit down with Bobbie. Hope he talks to Lincoln Riley as well.

    • Zack says:

He needs to do whatever it takes to interview frost and the 2 tcu OC’s also. And then pick whichever 2 he wants the most. Money shouldn’t be a factor.

    • Fear The Magic says:

A lot of potential OCs in play right now. I just hope that we end up with one who can not only move an offense but can recruit too. To me thats a big must.

  • D'Brickashaw Ferguson says:

The local press was ruthless today in their questioning (Hoover in particular). He came across as a jerk, IMO. It’s gotta be hard firing your close friend, especially in the midst of a witch hunt; thought Bob handled the situation with grace. In the end it’s a business but it’s still tough to do.

I’m glad that Monty got a promotion to Co-DC, but the way Bob was sounding I gather that Mike is applying for other jobs. Anyone else get that feeling? Hoping for more staff changes and news soon.

    • Sooner Ray says:

Don’t be so stingy with your opinion of Hoover, most share your view. My feeling about MS is he has an option to stay in a reduced capacity if he fails to find another job. Bob did a lot of dancing in the presser where defensive coaches are concerned. I feel like he has encouraged some of them to seek other jobs so that they can step out gracefully without being fired. I think Mike is the only one with a possible stay option. That’s my opinion.

      • J J says:

Totally agree. Or are waiting for NSD to get here, let BJW ride off into the sunset (mervs a job) but Bob prolly has someone who is willing to wait quietly b4 coming on board

        • Sooner Ray says:

Agree. I think Bob got Josh and Jay out early so they could get in on some of the open jobs. He’s probably not as concerned for the defensive guys and like you said….NSD is coming.

          • J J says:

Defensive guys i think are most likely the coaches already w/ties to Stoops, willing to sit & let it ride. Let BJW keep recruiting the guys. I don’t think we have as many offensive commits. And those we do are Gundy & bedenbaugh recruits…

        • soonermusic says:

y’all may very well be right about that, but unlike the wr situation, and passing situation, unless I missed it, I haven’t heard anything from Stoops to indicate that he was unhappy with LB play–other than under the general umbrella remarks about everything needing to improve. That makes me think that Kish may end up wherever MS does…go or stay, in spite of the online drum beat for his exit.

          • J J says:

What part of BJW = Kish? Bobby Jack Wright. Never said anything about online drumbeat for his exit.

          • Sooner Ray says:

            Pour another? πŸ™‚

          • J J says:

Sounds good. Boss brought me bourbon from Breckenridge CO. Who knew??? Not me!!

          • Sooner Ray says:

            That’s a good boss!

          • J J says:

Yeah. I worked about 12 extra hours (which is a lot still on the ankle) last week covering his vacation time

          • soonermusic says:

Didn’t mean to suggest you did. I thought you and Sooner Ray were agreeing that MS was the only one with an option to stay.

          • Sooner Ray says:

That was my opinion and I could be wrong.

          • soonermusic says:

Maybe you already said, but do you think the promo of Montgomery is to position him as the DC, if Mike leaves, or do you think the available position would be “co-” with Monty? Seems like the latter might limit his options a bit.

          • Sooner Ray says:

Haven’t got a good read on that one yet. I don’t think he’s ready to take it on by himself this year ( could be wrong ) and it could make things more difficult if they end up going after a new DC. I feel like they were trying to block any outside interest but may have other issues to deal with down the road.

          • J J says:

No agreeing that any defense guys who might go, probably letting them gracefully exit. Which I think is true in particular ofBJW

          • soonermusic says:

Ah, I see. Yeah, that certainly makes sense at this point. It will be very interesting to see how that shakes out in the next week or so.

    • soonerbred4ever says:

I think giving Montgomery a much deserved promotion, he reassured Jerry’s recruits he will still be here when the dust settles.

    • soonerbred4ever says:

I really will be surprised if Mike is here in 30 days. I will be equally shocked if Kish is here in 2 weeks.

      • SoonerinLondon says:

I agree, or at least a week after signing date.

I think both are active on the interview circuit at the coaches convention next week.

  • ellisbr says:

    where the TFBs at?

  • J J says:

Hum. What a day. Pours another drink.
Really hope there’s more changes to come.
