OU vs. Baylor Preview: Are The Sooners Ready?

Image via NewsOK

A few years ago we probably wouldn’t even had to bother previewing this game. But Art Briles has brought Baylor out of their Kansas-like slumber and onto the championship road.

Baylor is aggressive on both sides of the ball. On defense they play an attacking style defense with corners that get in the face of receivers and challenge them. They aren’t the most talented bunch, but they’ve got some guys on the defensive line that are certainly notable. Everyone knows 6’9″ defensive end Shawn Oakman. But they’ve also got an interior defensive lineman that I recall really wishing OU would’ve offered sooner. His name is Andrew Billings and though he’s a bit sawed off, he’s explosive and strong. If memory serves me correctly, he was a state championship power lifter back in high school. Though I never was one, I spent plenty of time around power lifters, including former US Olympian Shane Hamman, and I know just how explosive those guys can become. Through repeated and controlled incremental increases of Olympic movements, I’ve seen girls and guys alike turn into hyper-explosive athletes. Billings definitely fits that bill.

But while Baylor’s defense has improved over the years, it’s still their offense that scares everyone. Baylor stretches you in every way imaginable. They always have a great running game, and they include the addition of the QB run game to help that along. And while most spread teams build their offense around their quick game, Baylor takes as many deep shots as just about anyone. They align their receivers as far wide as they can, and they love taking an outside release to open the field even wider.

Earlier this season the Baylor offense absolutely embarrassed Gary Patterson’s TCU defense and that is no small feat. So can OU’s defense hold up? Here are a couple key reasons I think Oklahoma has a good chance of putting on a quality performance against Baylor and ultimately winning the game…perhaps even winning soundly.

1. Preparation (Insider Note): Last week I talked to a source who has never led me astray, and he told me an interesting note that I didn’t divulge on the site because I figured it would cause a stir before the Iowa State game. Now that OU has demolished Iowa State, I feel comfortable passing the info along. I was told that OU actually used much of the bye week, and some of the Iowa State prep week, working on Baylor. That means, according to my source (again, I can’t recall a time he’s ever been wrong), OU has been preparing for Baylor for the better part of three weeks.

This has the feel of one of those games where Bob Stoops has made the decision that the team is going to be absolutely ready to battle. When coach Stoops fully and completely focuses on a particular team, they usually don’t fare well against his squad.

2. The Psyche of Mikey: For large portions of this season, the Oklahoma defense has seemed content to sit back and play, what most would consider, a passive defense. We’ve see a ton of Cover-3 on the back end that, while is a pattern match defense, often leaves holes for opposing offenses. We’ve also seen some reluctance to let the dogs loose up front. Last week against Iowa State, OU got back to what made the Mike Stoops defense start to look closer to what we expect of an Oklahoma team. We saw more pressure and more man coverage on the back end.

I mentioned above that OU has been preparing for Baylor for three weeks, and I actually believe that OU even used the Iowa State game to play something closer to the defensive approach we can expect to on Saturday.

One of the more telling things that happened last week was when OU faced a 2×2 set on a few occasions, they played press-man coverage on both edges with a single high safety. Normally, you’ll only see Oklahoma press to the boundary or press with split-safety coverage. But OU pressed both edges. That’s the first time I’ve seen that this season, and it might foretell what they plan on doing against Baylor (at least in certain situations). Press coverage should help take away the quick game and can disrupt the timing of routes. I expect to see Mike pressure Bryce Petty a lot. Just like we saw West Virginia do, right?

Well, right and wrong. Right in that I expect him to pressure and play a lot of man coverage on the back end, but wrong in that it wasn’t the WVU coach that cracked the Baylor code. It was actually Mike Stoops that initiated that type of pressure defense out of a Cover-1 call last year in Waco. Not a lot of people took note of what he did because the final score didn’t look so hot. But those of us who watched the game know the defense actually played well and if it weren’t for the offense stalling and some off-sides calls, Oklahoma’s defense probably would have really been nails for the entire game.

If Mike does decide to go that route again, I just hope he will stay with it even if Baylor gets a couple deep shots early. You’ve got to have the stomach to play that kind of defense and trust they can’t hit those shots all day.

A Quick Note on What I’d Do:

So I am totally on board with what Mike did last year. Again, I think the only way to play a team like Baylor is with about 70% man coverage and pressure. But I’d add one of thing that I don’t necessarily expect from Oklahoma, but I’d still like to see. I know a lot of folks will disagree with me on this because of Baylor’s ability to run the ball, but I’d actually consider starting out by playing everything out of a 2-deep shell.

Last week TCU played WVU like that for much of the game and I kept thinking, “West Virginia is going to run all over them.” And at times they did, but over the course of the game it ultimately forced WVU to run the ball more than they would have liked. And it allowed TCU to play their corners more aggressively, which proved successful.

I think if you’re going to play Baylor out of a 2-deep shell, you’re going to want to align your corners just outside the box, similar to Michigan State’s quarters alignment. The beauty of the 2-deep is you can show Petty and the Baylor offense the same thing, but OU has shown on a number of occasions they can show 2-deep pre-snap look and then alter their coverage into a number of different things.

One of the my favorite things they go to out of that pre-snap look is a ‘Man-1 robber.’ I think you try this coverage early, because you allow your secondary guys time to acclimate to Baylor’s explosive wide receivers. Obviously some may argue that you don’t want to let the run game get going early, but I’d simply bring my safeties down then perhaps stagger them slightly to the strength of offense’s formation and tell them to play aggressive early and have my corners to give more ground after the snap.

Either way, I really feel Oklahoma is going to be ready for this game. And I’m hopeful we will see a great performance from the Sooners. It goes without saying Oklahoma could really use a big win here. Playoff chances or not…shutting Baylor up for a while is prize enough.

On prep, it’s interesting to note that Baylor was able to embarass TCU’s defense a week after TCU held us largely in check. It could mean that Baylor’s offense is just light years beyond us. Or it could be that it’s really hard to prep for OU, then turn around and face a different high powered offense within a single week.

    • boomersooner says:

But could you imagine having to face sec teams every week? I mean my goodness, the humanity…..hahahahahahahahaha. sorry couldn’t keep a straight face

    • soonermusic says:

Not to beat a dead horse, but our offense held itself in check as much as TCU did. There were so many errors in blocking and protection, and route running and ball catching, etc. that contributed. Make no mistake, TCU has a talented defense and played many things very well, but OU helped them quite a bit.

    • EasTex says:

True, but BU’s last 24 points in the 4th qtr were against a gassed TCU defense that has no depth and they were playing at BU.

      • Boom says:

Late in the 4th, Baylor got an interesting pass interference call against TCU on a 3rd & long. Hmm, they helped Baylor get their last TD

  • red clay says:

    To answer the headline’s question
    Yes!
Sooners win a shoot out – could be either:
    1. OUr D turns them back to save the day; or
    2. OUr O gits it done.
It will be apparent that our squad has the dog in ’em
    BU 42
    OU 49

  • Ballard says:

Baylor has only played two teams with a pulse this year, WVU and TCU. The lost to one and the other put up 59. As long as the D can get off the field on some key third downs, I don’t see this game being close in the fourth quarter. OU 45 BU 27.

    • soonerthunder says:

Also, only 2 decent Ds on the road. @ UT and @ WV, 28pts and 27pts, only. One of BU’s TDs against UT was a blked FG returned 62 yds for TD, so BU’s only scored 3 TDs against UT’s D. Against WV on the road BU scored 27 pts, but one TD was a drive of only 7 yds, so, again, on the road, BU’s O scored 20 pts other than that. I’m hoping they show that on the road their O is not as potent. I hope our O keeps their O off the field.

  • Boom says:

I would like to see our S’s clock the Baylor WRs early and often. CB’s abuse them at the line of scrimmage and throw them off the routes. I want to see some hard hitting from our LB’s in the run game. Watching the 30-30, we were brash, in your face, and the other team knew we were going to knock them out of their shoes. Like to see that from our D.
I want to see Rip blow up Oakman.

IMO, TCU got beat late cause they didn’t have the depth on D and were tired.

  • F1at1ined says:

Without sounding like I am picking on Ahmad Thomas here, perhaps facing a team that puts out so many fleet footed WRs means he won’t see the field as often. He looks like our weakest coverage guy at the moment and it aint even close. If I see Thomas having to cover a Cannon or Coleman or Goodley one on one I will be far less happy than Bryce Petty if he sees that.

    • kt-raida says:

Every time I see Byrd play I wonder why Thomas stays over him. They will pick on him early and often.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

I want to see our offense just dominate. At least use some clock, a lot of ball control and marching down the field. Your right, when I think of last years Baylor game, the score didn’t portray the actual game. The O just had a bunch of 3 and outs, seemed like they were out on the field for 45 seconds at a time. We were 4-17 on 3rd downs, with 2 ints. So I want to see a lot from the offense.

I really think the defense is going to have a great game. We are going to see them tear it up, as long as they aren’t on the field the entire game.

  • Josh says:

K I would argue that the Sooners have been preparing for Baylor much of the year. I think some of Coach Mikes experimentation with the back end has been both seeing what the pups could do and seeing what might work against Baylors constant pick(offensive PI) plays. I think most of the time they will go man but I think he wanted other options to throw at Baylor from time to time possibly baiting Petty into a pick or two. This defense was lights out against Baylor last year until they simply got worn out. At that point the rub routes were deadly and things got out of hand. I think you’re right on in that I would light em up, play man, and live with the fact that you might give up a homer or two(not like we haven’t been giving them up anyway). Give up a big play, so what… get the O back out there and pound on the Baylor D. What kills you is getting picked apart, wearing out your own D, and letting them rest on the sidelines.

  • Jed says:

I’m thinking the linebackers are key. They will get some rushing yards. They’re too good not to. But we simply can’t afford to mush rush. Our three DL have to GO and penetrate. Force Petty into improvising on anything other than a hand off. And the LBs have got to be there to stop those handoffs from being very successful.

  • Ed Cotter says:

All I know is that Brice Petty is getting ready for OU.

  • Exiled In Ohio says:

Walker, Romar, Dimon – these guys need to have quality series so the D line will be fresh in the 4th.

  • T. says:

Can anybody tell me what Jordan Wade did and who he pissed off? He was really coming along last year and has all but disappeared this year. Maybe the other DT’s are just outperforming him, but I find that hard to believe.

    • Exiled In Ohio says:

He’s on the roster, but not on the 3-deep. Dunno.

    • OUknowitscomin says:

He came in before Romar against ISU, so maybe it has changed. Played pretty well I thought, significantly better than what I saw out of Romar in his series.

    • Super K says:

Been told that he did nothing wrong. Just been passed on the depth chart.

  • Stephen Dale says:

Super K,,,,,,,,,,,,,, hope you are right.

  • soonerthunder says:

I looked at the schedule before the season and saw that Baylor had 3 weeks to prepare for OU, too. They had 2 weeks to prepare for KANSAS at home! Don’t doubt it that they were preparing for OU for 3 weeks, an easier preparation than us for ISU on the road. That said, I like being at home, I like the way OU’s O opened up, and it seems ISU O is better than their D so our D played pretty well it seems. I think our O playing well is going to make our D look like it’s playing better. Last year, BU lead 24-5 at half and scored all 3 TDs in last 5 minutes. If our O could have used up any clock in 1st half, the half would have expired with us up 5-3. OU 5 drives in 1st half: 1) 3 and out–punt, 1 total yds, 1:16; 2) 3 and out–punt, 9 yds, 2:00; 3) to the BU 1 yd line turnover on downs to BU, 4:45; 4) from BU 12 yd line, 3 plays, manage a FG, 1:13; 5) 7 plays–punt, 2 1st downs, 2:49. 8 total minutes out of 30 minutes 1st half. Terrible! If we use any time at all, they don’t even have time to score the last 3 TDs b/f half, all scored in last 5 minutes. I know we had a bad O game against UT this year, but that half was horrible. And, we started the 2nd half with 2 three and outs for a total of 5yds and -1 yd, respectably. ONE possession to the 1 yd line w/o pts and only 3 pts when we get the ball on the BU 12 yd line in 2 1/2 quarters (basically, another 3 and out). You might say 6 out of 8 possessions are 3 and out, or worse (one was a 1 play “drive”–TO), and another with only 2 1st downs b/f punting, and still, only down 24-5. Like I said, if we had used any time at all in the 1st half, they wouldn’t have scored those 3 TDs in the 1st half. And you think that was bad? 6 of the 8 drives through 2 1/2 quarters are 3 and out, with one more with 2 1st downs b/f punting, then we had two more 3 and outs in the 4thQ. 8 drives of 3 and out. One more w/2 1st downs. That’s the most pathetic O showing I think I’ve seen, maybe including UT this yr.

    • Super K says:

      yeah it was rough

    • OUknowitscomin says:

I’d definitely say the Baylor game was much worse than UT this year. Not sure I’ve even seen that bad of entire game by OU O in life. Seriously. It was after that game that everyone knew there had to be some change, we were too easy for anyone to shut down at that point. Horrible.

  • boomersooner says:

the most important words outta bob’s mouth this week will be “watch the picks”

  • soonermusic says:

Bob Stoops referenced the preparation you refer to. It’s one of the very few times I’ve heard him mention “looking ahead” during a bye week, or any time for that matter.

  • soonermusic says:

Agree with your comments about last year, Super K. The defense was excellent until they got worn down by having to be on the field the entire game with no breaks. That’s not gonna happen this year.

  • OUknowitscomin says:

My biggest concern is still depth on D line. Having Dimon back is very good, but think Bond & Obo are going to have to have great games.
I watched Walker on replay & noticed he was only in on one series. Pretty tight in how he moved & much slower. Seemed to hold up decent rushing straight forward, but if needed to turn he really struggled. Just didn’t seem ready to be back & when coaches didn’t put him back in on next series I’m guessing they thought he wasn’t ready. Not sure if a week makes much difference.
Also noticed Wade in game ahead of Romar & looked decent, but Romar seemed to struggle a bit. Perhaps Wade has passed him back up on depth chart (albeit maybe not in writing)

OL Evans was mauling guys when he was in, just mauling. Would love to see him hitting Oakman for a while on double teams, just to let him know he’s there. 😉

  • rphokc says:

sk…………”Earlier this season the Baylor offense absolutely embarrassed Gary Patterson’s TCU defense and that is no small feet”……….you had a ‘james hale moment’……….try feat

  • Jason Rudd says:

Stoops preparing for a tough opponent during the bye week is not something new. When I knew players on the team they told me that OU routinely did this before OU-TX game. To me the key is our run game. If we can run well and come out with more 7s than 3s, I expect us to have a good chance. One last thing, no int’s or fumbles for TD please. Would love to see a turnover free game. Also, against WVU, Baylor had over 100 yards in penalty in the first half alone. Fans need to do their part and create that type of atmosphere.

    • SoonerSpock says:

No int’s and no fumbles is key. Most big football games are not won they are lost. OU needs to have no turnovers, no mental bust, no mental penalties and play field position football to earn a victory. Third down execution on both sides of the football is the key ingrediant to winning the football game. Play smart football. Go Sooners!!!

  • JJsooner1 says:

This was a post from jl on 11/6 from Sooner News Daily and I think will be critical tomorrow:

“Petty is dead last in completion % in the big 12, behind montell cozart, and richardson, the guy we held to 15/40 passing last week.

Petty is big, strong, and athletic, but hes simply not that accurate. he missed the 60% mark in 6 of his final 7 games last year, and is having the same issue this year. Sorry to those that think hes a 1st rounder, but just no, hes not.

Just as an FYI, knight is #1 in the big 12 in QBR, and 6th in the nation. Not too shabby with as inconsistent of a season as he has had.”

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

I think since BU tosses the long ball quite a bit it will drive down QB completion percentages. But I could be wrong.

      • Zack says:

Same excuse can be said about Trevor knights competition % all he did for several games was throw deep to Neal or shep.

        • Eric Hoffpauir says:

He threw it to others. They didn’t catch it (and it wasn’t always their fault) but he did target a few others

      • j l says:

while thats true to an extent, he also misses high on out routes, hitches and curls a lot too.

  • Andrew Kelemen says:

I keep on wondering what TK9 will show up for the game. ISU or Sugar Bowl TK9 or Texas TK9. I know the focus is the defense, but I think if he takes control of the game then OU wins.

  • Boom says:

    Good stuff above.
OK, so am I the only spoiled brat on this site who is holding out hope for the Friday recruiting update/open post.

    • Zack says:

You’re not alone. But I do know recruiting will pick up in the next couple weeks and especially after the osu game when there’s only one game left until next august.

  • Zack says:

I’m picking ou to win. Stoops and co know what they need to do to try to get in the national championship picture. It starts with beating the opponent in all phases of the game. If they are willing to kick to ross then I expect a return for a td. I expect us to hang 45 or more on Baylor and to be able to hold them in the 20s. The team is capable of that, the question is can the coaches and players execute tomorrow.

    • boomersooner says:

Yeah if we have the 10th ranked schedule before Baylor and chaos ensues, then we definitely have a shot at a good bowl and maybe even playoffs. You have to reward us sooner or later assuming we keep winning-disclaimer-we may be ranked 10th in schedule all because of Tenn and Tenn only 🙂

  • j l says:

I have a taco tech 2008 feel to this game, I just have this gut feeling we run away from them.

This team seemed pissed off(in the best of ways) last week, and I think they keep it going this week.

    52-28 sooners.

    • EasTex says:

All things being equal, I have been thinking OU by 24 most of this week, so I like the way you think.

      • j l says:

i rarely go out on a limb, hoping it works out. Ill take a 1 point win though lol.

        • EasTex says:

Same here, but for some reason the 24 point advantage has been rolling around in my brain pan for several days.

  • John Garner says:

If Heupel cuts TK loose, we win. Sugar Bowl revisited. That which may alter the offense is if Sheppard can’t play.

  • Super Keith says:

    Good read K.

  • rphokc says:

generally speaking, if the perceived more important games get the better tv time slots as sat goes on, why did ou/bu get 11a and wv/ut get 230p on the same network

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

My guess is networks examine competing games in same time slot to hopefully maximize viewership. That is what it always boils down to – maximum number of eyeballs generates optimal advertising revenue. I’ve heard OU gets better ratings than most, so maybe they want to dominate the early time slot?

  • boomersooner says:

wow. breaking news. winston’s lawyer is asking fsu for more time before the hearing. shocking. got those games to win and you can’t have your “star” qb suspended now can you?

    • Bluegrass Sooner says:

I saw today where fsu kicked a sophomore linebacker off the team. He must have really done something pretty bad to get kicked off that team. Or he didn’t do anything too bad, but he wasn’t a star and was used to try and show that the noles mean business in running a clean program…sorry I couldn’t say it without laughing!

    • Zack says:

I think the 11am time slot is more important to the networks than the 230. Not sure if that’s true but fox does seem to want to win the 11am slot more than espn does.

  • Stephen Dale says:

Boomer………….the delaying tactic will be used long enough to get Winston past the 4 team playoff format. if he is exonerated, he may return for another season. If not, I think he’ll declare for the NFL. In either instance, I wouldn’t expect FSU to suffer any penalties since the the judicial system will protect the university, coachs and players. Unlike Oklahoma, the team will go unscathed . Its the FSU way.

  • EasTex says:

Since I really don’t pay much attention to BU, I’ve heard they have lost three from their OL due to injury. If true, are they gone for the season or are any of them expected back for this game?
In that vein, do we know much about BU’s depth on both sides of the ball?
Last year I remember their thuggish DBs getting away with cheap shots, I also remember many of their players had to leave the game due to injury. I now question their conditioning and their depth and would love to know if there is any information available on their physical status as a team. We already know Goodly(sp?) missed some games and Petty had the cracked vertebrae issue. It will something I will watch for, how well they hold up physically against a well conditioned OU.
I hope Ford and Perrine introduce themselves to the BU LBs early and often.

  • EasTex says:

OU should win in a Slam Dunk.

  • mizzOUstu702 says:

Paint me a little concerned. There were a lot of times in the ISU game where I thought if Richardson had been accurate AT ALL, that they would have burned us on some third down plays where we were rushing more than covering.

    • Super K says:

agree because even though Mike was more aggressive than he has been…he still wasn’t aggressive enough IMO.

  • trusoonerA53 says:

Man please someone close to the sooner players, let our guy’s know that $aylor thinks they think they are the harder hitting team. They also have that illegal hit on Shepard last year up on thier board. They really think they are coming in here and unload on us. I need the defense to take offense. I’m especially hoping JH runs right at oakem and watch him get fished by Big T. Sooners will definitely make a statement tomorrow. BOOMER SOONER BABY

Excellent post and top flight information….. i would also love to see a solid performance if not just to stop all the trash talk i been reading about.

  • EasTex says:

Looking forward to the game in the a.m.
First things first, tonight is the last night of the regular season for high school football. Lots of big games across the state, with many win or stay home games…my home town included. They have to beat that pinball scoring machine out of Suphur Springs to go to the dance.

    • JJsooner1 says:

      Good luck to you!!

      • EasTex says:

Thanks. Love my old team, win or lose, they always face the fans and sing the alma mater after the game.

      • EasTex says:

        Whoo-Hoo!!!
My boys pulled it off, playoff bound.
They held Sulphur Springs to 27, they had been averaging 50 a game.
Final score Marshall 36-27. They held SS twice on 4th down in the 4th qtr, the back breaker was stopping them at the MHS 6 on 4th and 4, then taking it 94 yards for the game winner.

        • Sooner Ray says:

Congrats, my home town team had wrapped up first place last week so they lost tonight playing backups. I didn’t like it but I understand them wanting to be injury free going into playoffs.

          • EasTex says:

            Congrats to your boys.
I always hated that approach, but can’t argue with it. Probably has some bruises and boo-boos on his starters that could use some time to heal up.

  • JJsooner1 says:

I’ll be happy with Petty looking out his ear hole kinda like Trickett. That stupid smile went away and was replaced with a pain grimace. If the D can hit him early and often, Our Sooners will roll.

    • EasTex says:

Would love to see Petty’s pupils dilated like the Vols QB were after Striker and Phillips blasted him.

  • Zack says:

Using this as the open post topic…
Looks like John Humphrey signed his financial aid agreement with ou. Good news to me I know a lot of people get over recruits as soon as they announce but if his speed is real then he could be a special player for us for awhile.

    • EasTex says:

Thanks, man, that is good news.
I was checking up on him and his team last weekend. His team isn’t doing real well this year. Their roster has him listed now as 6’1″ 180, which is about 15-20lbs more than I used to see him listed as.

      • Zack says:

Yeah he doesn’t look very big not much bigger than Saunders IMO but Saunders is tough so his frame doesn’t concern me. I know his team lost their qb in like the 2nd game.

        • EasTex says:

If their roster is correct, the young man has put on some heft.

          • Sooner Ray says:

Don’t trust rosters. I remember telling my coaches that I was listed too tall and too heavy, they just smiled and said that wasn’t meant for me to read.

          • EasTex says:

Our coach did our official weigh in after we ran gassers on the last day of 2adays, with no water breaks. He wanted our weights listed as low as they would ever be.

    • Sooner Ray says:

Thanks Zack, way to stay on top of things!

    • boomersooner says:

what else you got for us thou bearer of good news?

  • EasTex says:

Phil Steele just called it OU 45-Bu 34.

    • Sooner Ray says:

I’ll take it but the stingy Sooner in me want’s our score higher and theirs lower.

      • EasTex says:

I picture OU with a 3 TD lead and 9 minutes left in the game.
They line up in the Diamond with Flowers, Rip and Perine while the OL yells “all day.”
The Bears shrink and slink as they get pounded and the stadium goes wild.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
        /fingers crossed

The most they’ve scored on the road this year is 28 or maybe that’s in conference? But anyways I don’t want them to top that vs us. Holding them in the teens would be great.

Nothing quite like Friday Night lights in small town Texas.
Where else, on Senior Night, would the drill team dance with their Dads.

  • WilliamJack says:

Smother Bryce Petty. Even Tom Brady doesn’t have a good game if he keeps getting knocked to the ground. Relentless for 60 minutes. BOOM!

    • EasTex says:

You made me hear the long ago words from my dear, sweet Momma…“hit him!”

      • tfb_fortyseven says:

That’s what my Mom used to say too, and she also would scream, “Get the ball Sooners, get the ball!” It was amazing how many times the D would get a turnover when she’d start yelling that.

        • EasTex says:

My dear, sweet Momma was so quiet and sweet, always had a smile on her face, but when it came to football she was a screaming demon. Loved that old girl. She helped fuel the competitiveness in all us boys.

  • boomersooner says:

Congrats soccer girls. On to the tourney final. One more win Sunday for the auto birth

  • EasTex says:

Sure hope the Sooners are ready, I know I am.
Can’t sleep, keep hearing the theme song to Sooners Game Day.
So here I am drinking coffee and surfing the web.
Found an excellent video of Shep Smith(Ol Miss alum) having an on air meltdown.
Somebody needs to send Chris Wallace a cow bell.

“…We’re all probably going to get fired. I should be fired” – Shepard Smith

    • JJsooner1 says:

Smith is a complete narcissistic jerk. Had the misfortune to observe him on a flight. More than one person wanted to punch him in the face with his statement: ” The gene pool on this flight just went way up.” Referring to himself with a straight face no less.

      • EasTex says:

What an odd thing for him to say, considering the fact that he isn’t inclined to contribute to the gene pool.

    • JJsooner1 says:

Right there with you EasTex. Up at 0630 for no darn good reason. Congrats to your team last night:-)

      • EasTex says:

The boys done good. By beating SS by more than five and less than 13, they are the #1 D2 seed and get Nacogdoches instead of Ennis in the first round and don’t have to travel but 30 minutes for the game.
Biggest win for them since their deep playoff run in 2009.

  • Indy_sooner says:

I’m on a roll. Called the rout to ISU as well as the loss to KSU but I feel good about this one. Baylor’s getting annihilated. If anything, I would love for Striker to wipe that smug smile of Petty’s face.

  • Indy_sooner says:

I am not that worried, MS showed he could contain Baylor last year but that’s hard to do for 4 quarters. OSU used the same gameplan and came away with a win.

  • SamSooner says:

    Offensive line: “Honta Yo!!”

  • Gary Robbins says:

The most important game for OU is today. Win and season goals are within reach. Lose and no chance of Big 12 championship, National championship, or a very decent bowl game. At OU “it’s all about the attitude”. Life happens so before enlightenment ” chop wood, carry water” and after enlightenment “chop wood, carry water. Go Sooners!

    • EasTex says:

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age
of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it
was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the
season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of
despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were
all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way – in
short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its
noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for
evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.
