beautiful Friday. Payday for workers and retirees alike. also another day in the saga of football recruiting as the last of the desired targets make decisions and the ‘bridesmaids’ make plans for “C” & “D” list athletes ……..ah, life in the Little 12-2 !!!!!

Howdy Sam! Had to get ready for work and now have to make the slog in. See all you great TFBers in 45min!

I’m working from home today. We got a little dusting of snow but very mild winter compared to the last three years in Northeast Ohio.

        Dick, good morning!

Plus, you get to work on your leadership skills.

        • Dick Bump says:

Good morning! That too. You can tell a big difference in how they handle interviews. OU does an excellent job in providing opportunities to develop public speaking skills as well as leadership. You know?

Good morning TFB weirdos. I’m ready for some rather good sooner FB updates today.

Can’t wait for this Simmons and Hield go at it. I’ve got the good guys by 12. Boomer!

  • OUhound says:

Agree with most of what you say, Jordan, but not about Boren. The guy has done more for OU than any other president that I am aware of, and I go back a long long way. You may disagree with what he says, and you have that right, but frankly, a statement like “somebody pulled his string” is down right disrespectful. Personally, I’ll continue to give him the benefit of the doubt as he certainly has a ton more that belongs in the asset column that the liability column.

And we wonder why kids are choosing Texass
every freshman should have a new Cadillac

  • Birddawg says:

How do you justify to several schools to take a pay cut in tv revenue by adding two schools in order to save the conference when Texsa has a 300 mil dollar deal with espn?
    Answer: You don’t.. You leave

    • JrsySooner says:

      but go where
      road games to ksu…isu…osu…texass…tt…ku…
Tcu..etc. Not that bad….you start flying a team…. band whatever around half of the US you defeat the purpose…I say get Miss and Neb back and try to figure this out with texass

      • SamSooner says:

It shouldn’t be that bad if OU went to the SEC. I mean, consider that OU would play Mizz, Arkansas, possibly A&M most years. The only teams that would be a problem are the teams in the SEC East.

        • Jim Casy says:

As much as I hate it, I’ve come to terms that SEC is the best choice for OU football both geographically and for recruiting. We’d make it easy on the SEC by bringing little brother for an easy rivalry week game for the conference plus expanding the area.
Schlongwhorns wouldn’t want to admit it, but this would be a crushing blow for them, when you combine aggy, LSU, Ark, plus other SEC teams and us recruiting the hell outta the area. The OU/Tex game gets played every year regardless, I don’t care what anyone says…it will happen with too much pressure for UT to bailout of it for spite.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

I don’t think the SEC would ever consider OSU. OU brings all of Oklahoma, OSU brings what?

      • Mark_in_VA says:

No one who left this rotting conference is ever coming back. Not even CU, who is plummeting and stinking it up in the PAC. And we are not going to peel away any teams in other P5 conferences, no matter how much sense it seems to make for schools like Arky and LSU to join.

      • Birddawg says:

Are you a season ticket holder or travel?
SEC schedule brings a lot of value to your ticket..
I wouldn’t mind seeing Gainesville Fl in September… Baton rouge Lsu… Tenn was a lot of fun.
        SEC is perfect.
        They have 2 spots.
instead of wasting time surgically replacing crap with crap in Big 12, we should be making a deal with the SEC to bring us and little bro.
Lock up the SEC and force Texsa to play games 11am games on the west coast or go play cold weather ball in Big 10

        • SamSooner says:

          I agree.

Good morning, Birddawg. As much as I hate it, OU should join the SEC. At this time, that makes the most sense.

        • Jordan Esco says:

I don’t know how every season ticket holder isn’t screaming from the rooftops constantly for a move to the SEC.

The value of your ticket goes up exponentially w/ that conference and the home schedule vs. really any other league, especially the one they’re in now.

In the years where OU’s marquee non-con game is on the road, the home schedules tend to be pretty much dog crap, IMO. Big reason why I’ve never seriously pursued buying season tickets.

          • metzker says:

How do you really feel Jordan?

          • JrsySooner says:

Jordan is there a vacancy in the sec???..that ship has sailed unless they expand
sure we all want to be in a proud conf but wtf it aint happening in our lifetime so fix this bs conf you’re stuck in

          • Jordan Esco says:

If OU were actually serious about leaving, the SEC isn’t telling them no, IMO.

          • JrsySooner says:

And another thing a$m and Miss are getting butt slammed every year and for what???
You’re going to leave a conference when you have the best chance of winning a title and for what to struggle through your schedule. Yea that makes a lot of sense.
We can barely compete with the likes of the big 12 And you want to go against the SEC
Being in the big 12 got us another conference championship and a shot and a national title

          • Jim Casy says:

Don’t be so afraid of theSEC especially when our recruiting will go up exponentially. They are top heavy no different than the Big12. Stoops is right all they do is play each other and shift positions in the rankings each week based upon which SEC team beat the other SEC team.

          • Birddawg says:

No sooner should be scared going into the SEC. We could hold our own. LSU has lost to bama 5 years in a row?
We beat them just two years ago..
SEC would be just as worried adding a Quality winner in OU on their schedules.

          • Bob Edwards says:

And everyone keeps complain how we are getting beat in recruiting because we aren’t in the SEC, well…

          • JrsySooner says:

Not afraid but why rob Peter to pay Paul? No more osu or RRR . ..we just won a championship and was in a title hunt….you think we walk in and do the same? He’ll we can’t recruit after all that even in this fkd up situation so leave it alone…

          • Bob Edwards says:

You do realize Missouri has been to two SEC championship games in four years. That’s as many as they went to in the B12 in fifteen years. A&M’s record is better in the SEC over the last four years than it was in the last four years in the B12?

          • Birddawg says:

            That’s a big misconception.
IMO, big 12 is not the best way to get into the playoff.
The playoff committee has proved it doesn’t respect big 12 football.
Only reason why we got to go is because 1) ND lost 2) Stanford lost twice.
Committee will always choose the PAC-12 champion and ND over a tied record of big12.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

Actually, I would argue just the opposite. In fact, I would bet they are enjoying more success now than they did in the BIG XII, wins and financial.

          • Birddawg says:

I think they will soon enough..
Boren is doing the political dance right now.. This will take until next year.
But IMO, to really get the ball rolling. OU gets snubbed a playoff spot with a legitimate team. Joe C/Stoops would have to approve the move.
IF the playoff committee choses another conference over OU when each team is equal.
That’s when the flood gates open.

        • JrsySooner says:

Agreed….but now what…hey gamecocks your out. OUs in or go to 18 teams

          • Mark_in_VA says:

18? SEC currently has 14 teams. I suspect they see 2 more slots to fill long term. Bring in OU and WV, and that gives one more in the west and one more in the east, keeping a contiguous footprint for the conference. Split into a geographical western region, and OU’s travel is as close as the current XII travel, with a rotating cross-regional schedule.

          • SamSooner says:

Or, they could move Alabama or Auburn to the East. Probably Bama. That’s a guaranteed trip to the SEC title game.

          • Mark_in_VA says:

Yeah, I think they would definitely benefit from an internal reshuffling of regional divisions if they expand to 16. Have the east and west actually be east and west. They, unlike the XII’s idiocy, can make allowances for certain “permanent rivals” across regions if that becomes an issue, which we should have been able to do for OU/NU.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Actually it would probably be Auburn, they’ve always had a rivalry with Georgia since they sit right across the border. Ga and FL are their big recruiting areas.

          • SamSooner says:

Yep, you’re right. Auburn is about an hour from the Georgia/Bama line.

Sunny and 60s in January ??? Great day to be a Sooner and in the Sooner state!

What you regulars think about a rule for the day: don’t be negative but if you want t make negative comment it MUST be accompanied by good news/comment/insight.
    Example:
OMG Williams isn’t visiting the world is ending. BUT this Svenson kid looks like he could be a player esp now he has chip on his shoulder…

Still get to point out negative items but we try and keep it realistic and positive about OUr team!

    • 47 Straight OU Know says:

What is this that you speak of, that is just totally unacceptable.

    • SamSooner says:

Some folks are going to negative, regardless. I’ll check it out and decide if I want hang around.

      • Bob Edwards says:

My problem is not the negativity about negative news. It’s the group that assume we are going to lose every 50-50 on the board. That and the ones that have no actual facts to back up there negativity. For instance I don’t mind Jordan he contributes to the board and has good reasons for his pessimism. He just overall has a more pessimistic attitude than I have. That’s fine.

        • SamSooner says:

I agree. My issue is that you can’t reason with. They can’t see anywhere or any way that you could be right.

        • SamSooner says:

I agree. My issue is that you can’t reason with. They can’t see anywhere or any way that you could be right.

        • cush creekmont says:

Bob, we can be “positive” about the Negative Nancies – They are just setting our expectations sooooooooooooo low that our Wednesday joy will be that much better.

  • jonnyBgood says:

I have followed recruiting long enough to not let myself get set up for disappointment. With that being said I don’t think I will be able to handle a Kelly commit to ND. We have all followed this process (thanks to TFB!) from jump and so badly want CK to end up in Norman. The kid can just do so many things well he could be a game-changer for this program. I keep having visions of Kelly and Youngquist wrecking opposing offenses and bringing this defensive unit back to it’s early 2000’s level. I feel good about him ending up in Norman and wish the 3rd would get here already. Have a great Friday and hopefully we get a surprise #BOOM sometime today! BOOMer!

  • Maranatha846 says:

Guys, I’m not a newb here. Just started posting under this name instead of my real name that I always posted under ( Bill Holder ).

  • Bob Edwards says:

One thing to consider regarding OU leaving the B-12 is that the GOR is not a fixed penalty. It’s a loss of revenue which means that every year we get closer to the end of it, the less it will cost us to leave.

  • Walter Sobcek says:

I don’t follow recruiting, I just root for the players who take the field in crimson and cream. Hope it all goes well. Because if Bama wins another natty I’m gonna get pretty %&&^%((&^% pissed.

  • SoonerOracle737 says:

  • Ron Burgandy says:

** Two stars ? I see we have 3 guys that are 2 star players. I realize Alvarez was a two star and doing very well,.but looks like a bunch of others didn’t make the cut over the last several years? ?

  • Ron Burgandy says:

Crapola, sittin’ at No. 32 is depressing after a playoff season….

  • hOUligan says:

I understand that Jon Solomon is a cbs/sec shill but he does make a valid point. The state of Texas has always been the lifeblood of OU football. OU expanded that footprint during the ‘good times’ when OU was at the top of their game and the mountain. Now, while relevant, the ‘OU’ brand does not carry the cache’ nationally that it did and Texas is being raided by the sec. There’s a lot of talent in Texas but the top talent is finite.

    • Tulsa Terry says:

Solomon takes digs at the Big 12 every chance he gets. But yeah OU has lost it’s luster in Texas. National recruiting base is preferred and less costly

  • KJ1123 says:
