– Team News | Baker Mayfield: Spoke to a source over the weekend who told me that Mayfield is telling folks he will be ready to go for fall camp. As expected, however, he will sit the rest of the summer. But it seems at least he feels he will be ready to go for fall camp, which is good news. – (Super K)

Team News | A.D. Miller: Watch out for this guy! I had heard things about him earlier in the summer, and even shared some of that with you here on TFB, but things cooled down because he had some sort of minor injury that kept him out for a little bit. But he’s back now and from everything I’ve been told, he has been very difficult to cover.

I’m told Miller and Trevor Knight have developed a bit of a chemistry, finding success and hooking up regularly on deep routes. Miller apparently has great speed, but also good length and route running ability. He’s a little on the thin side right now and still needs to develop his strength, but it sounds like his ability to separate is legit.

Miller is in that mold of a track sprinter type at receiver, but a tad taller than your typical track guy. He’s not as big as Dahu Green or Jeffrey Mead, but he is faster and more explosive. He seems like that perfect combination of length, agility & speed. I can’t say whether he will be a contributor this year because you never know how a player is going to process the playbook, but the reviews I have received from a strictly performance standpoint thus far just keep getting better. And to be honest, I think some of these young receivers are going to, at a point, surpass the guys ahead of them already on campus. – (Super K)

Team News | Fall Camp: Just wanted to pass along to you an approximate schedule for the team leading up to fall camp, in case you’re interested. I think we’re all ready for some freakin’ real football. I’m told the team will work out this week as normal (7-on-7, lifting, etc.). Next week they will have off to focus on finishing summer classes. The following week they will have a few days to go home, rest, and then come back to begin fall camp somewhere around August 5, 6, or 7 (not sure on the exact day).

It’s coming folks. – (Super K)

Anthony Hines: 2017 linebackers seem to be committing left and right these days. With Baron Browning and Levi Draper both committing in the last week, OU’s 2017 LB board seems to be slimming down. That’s why it was a positive the OU staff put on a good show for all-everything linebacker, Anthony Hines.

Hines has a good relationship with the OU staff and told me, “I talk to Coach Kish and Bob Stoops every week.” I asked for his thoughts on some of the other linebackers that have already committed, and he made it clear he would not be following suit with regards to an early commitment.

He did, however, say he was trimming his list down fairly soon and OU, in his words, “will no doubt make that list.” It’s been no secret that OU has put forth a great effort in recruiting Hines. He has been to Norman on several occasions and can be expected to be on campus this fall for a game as well. – (Brandon)

Tre Brown: Dear OU, please pull the trigger on an offer already. That’s all. – (Super K)

– UPDATE (1:25 pm): Tutt wound up having a late change of plans, so he will not be in Norman today after all. He did say there are plans to take in an OU home game at some point this coming season. – (Brandon)

First two days in a row. Boom. Lol

  • Zack says:

    Has Tre visited Norman yet?

    • Super K says:

Camped twice at OU this summer. Ran a sub 4.4

      • Zack says:

Well hopefully they look at the situation with draper and decide to be more proactive.

        • SoonerMGB56 says:

I’m sorry, but I can’t see an offer in the summer after sophomore year, as a late offer.

          • Zack says:

I don’t see it that way either. I’m just saying hopefully OU doesn’t wait too long.

I get why they don’t offer in state kids just because osu, Tulsa and then smaller schools in the area have offered. But as soon as they knew Clemson, fsu and bama were sniffing around they should have already been in position as far as conversations with the kid and building that relationship, to extend the offer.

          • James Starr says:

If I’m not mistaken, I thought Mike Stoops had been talking to him and had been to Collinsville to see him and his coach. Had informed him that they wanted to see a couple games this year before offering. I don’t think this is not conversing with him.

          • thill says:

            Late is relative, not absolute……
If everyone else offers him before you then you are late.

          • SoonerMGB56 says:

Sorry, I don’t see it. If you’ve not played a down of your junior year, it’s not late.

Just because 20 guys jump off a cliff, it doesn’t make it the right thing to do.

If they’ve seen him in action, and are comfortable with an offer at this point, then ok, it’s their job on the line. But offering someone just because 20 other teams have?

          • thill says:

Not saying offer because 20 teams have, just pointing out that late is still relative.
I never said it was right or wrong, just that it is late. You can say its not, but when the recruit says it is, well then it is, cause guess what, he’s the one making the decision, not you.
My point is everything is relative and specific to the situation. And what we are seeing is the situation changing. Kids are being offered earlier. We chose not to do so, right or wrong, but don’t think for a minute that a recruit is not being told by other schools over and over that we were #19 out of 20.

          • SoonerMGB56 says:

I guess I’m saying that if not having an offer by spring of your sophomore year is a really big deal to a recruit, then I’m concerned he’s a prima donna. “SEE ME”.

Because by spring of soph year, many played but one year of HS football. It’s reasonable for college coaches to want to see more than that.

Just my view. My concern is that a kid who gets all po’d about not having an offer at that point is not going to have the intangibles that I would want in my college players. I could be wrong.

          • thill says:

I get it. Don’t disagree. There is a fine line developing these days for sure.

      • Brandon says:

man it would be nice to get this homegrown talent

      • Mr. Jones says:

Any other B12 teams close to offering that you know of?

        • Super K says:

          OSU

        • Coach K says:

Just imagine if the Union coaching staff tried to get Tre some help in recruiting. The kid is fast and will only get faster as he is sooooo raw.

Tre ran hand held 10.8 in 8th grade.
He is quicker than Dominique franks and faster too. Needs to work on mechanics but has all the tools and is more naturally gifted than a guy who was pretty good for OU.

Tre loves loves loves Oregon but OU would be a good bet if offered.

      • Brandon says:

what about the lewis kid from southmoore what is he like as a corner

        • Super K says:

He’s pretty good. Better feet in person than I would’ve expected. I would continue to eval him. I’d offer Tre for two reasons 1. He’s hungry and 2. He’s fast fast fast. I can work with that.

      • Wilson says:

Any personality or character issues? How’s his academics?

  • BR says:

Trevor and a deep route completion? I get it, you meant to say a floating lob that will get recievers hurt like shep…ok that makes more sense…lol

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

actually deep passes are what he is good at, its the 5 yard outs and crosses that give him trouble

      • BR says:

I know what ya mean, but most of his deep balls last year were under thrown lob jump balls….I cant begin to count how many times shep had to slow down & jump up over defender…and then watch the play he got hurt on…exact same thing.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

I know, but I think Heupel wanted the stop fade route thrown a lot of the time. The come back to the ball and either catch it or get a PI call type of thing the NFL does

      • hemisooner says:

I thought his deep ball wasn’t too bad either.

    • yungkobra says:

Trevor just sucks at passing in general. He is the most inaccurate passer you will ever see.

      • Sooner Ray says:

Obviously you’ve never watched me throw.

      • Lincoln Hawk says:

Pretty strong opinion there bud. Hopefully with a new offense and QB coach he can be more accurate.

        • yungkobra says:

I don’t think a new offense and coach can solve his throwing problems. Obviously I hope I am wrong.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Not too much longer and we will find out 🙂

          • yungkobra says:

Hopefully we won’t! I want Baker to be the starter.

          • Krys Allen says:

His completion percentage against B12 teams is on par with TK9. Not sure why Trevor is the worst you have seen yet you are so excited about BM

          • yungkobra says:

On par? 64% vs. Trevor’s best year 59% thats not on par to me!

          • Krys Allen says:

64% was against everyone (out of conference cupcakes)… its was in the 50’s against TCU, Baylor and I believe Texas

          • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

Indeed. We’ve already addressed this before.

          • yungkobra says:

So Trevor had 40% against TCU and 44% against Baylor. Lets also take into consideration Baker threw the ball a lot more then Trevor.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

I want whoever gives us the best chance to win to be the starter.

          • SoonerBredCD says:

I’m not trying to compare Trevor Knight to Trevone Boykin (that wouldn’t be fair to Knight)…. But your comments are identical to what TCU fans were saying about Boykin prior to Doug Meacham and the 2014 season.

          • yungkobra says:

So you expect the same results for Trevor. You do realize that is highly unlikely. Sorry I have the ability to take the crimson colored glasses off and be realistic. I think Baker is the answer IMO

          • Boom says:

Where do you teach QB training? Or, do you evaluate QB’s for any schools? Curious.

          • yungkobra says:

YungKobra QB School for the homeless look me up!

          • Boom says:

That’s all I needed to know.

          • SoonerBredCD says:

Not at all. I think it is extremely unlikely that Trevor will have the same type of year that Boykin had in 2014. My point is that we shouldn’t just assume that Trevor can’t improve dramatically with better coaching and a simplified system that may magnify his talents. Boykin was a spare his first two seasons at TCU…. much worse that Trevor Knight.

          • SoonerBredCD says:

Not at all. Its unrealistic to expect Knight to have the same year as Boykin. But that wasn’t my point. My point is that it isn’t unrealistic to expect Knight to improve with better coaching, and a simplified system that might just magnify his talents. Much like it did for Boykin. Lets not forget how bad Boykin was his freshman and sophomore years. Much worse than Knight. He was awful.

          • boomersooner says:

You’re explaining it perfectly. It’s easy to understand except for the guy you’re actually talking to. Haha. I swear they get something in their head and won’t come off it

          • boomersooner says:

You need to entirely change how you put things. If you come on here running your mouth about someone sucks, your opinion is disregarded and rightfully so. Troll somewhere else. Oh and blasting someone and throwing a disclaimer of “I hope I’m wrong” is pretty small of you. So, in summary, troll elsewhere

          • yungkobra says:

sensitive much! Im not a troll just a realist!

          • boomersooner says:

Another “realist”? You clowns are a full on movement. Reminds me of bowel movements. Sensitive? Negative. Some idiot on a msg board does not ruffle my feathers. What have you ever done with your life to say somebody sucks at something? I’m gonna go out on a limb and say nothing. Saying somebody sucks at something is not opinion, it’s trollish

          • yungkobra says:

He does suck are you watching the same games as I am. I never asked you to comment so why don’t you move along if I don’t ruffle your feathers.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

When you repeatedly write that a kid in college doing his best to represent his school sucks, you will probably offend some people and get some comments. Most of us on here do not appreciate it, there are other ways to get your point across in a respectable manner.

          • boomersooner says:

Watching the same thing, sparkles. I’d say knight is pretty good. I’d just say you suck at trolling

          • yungkobra says:

good at running yes! again not trolling. I guess no one can have an opinion on this board.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Opinions are welcome, bashing a college kid is not.

          • boomersooner says:

Change your approach or scram. The one thing you “realists” don’t get is when you make your opinion sound like fact, you’re gonna catch hell for it. And then y’all all get up in arms about it and whine. So you’re pretty much right on script. Congrats

          • yungkobra says:

I am sorry I hurt your feelings because I said Trevor sucks. I did not really think it was new news. I am fine with catching hell because I know I am right.

          • boomersooner says:

Whatever makes you feel better about yourself, hoss. You feel the need to let us know what’s on your mind, next time ask permission 1st. Oh and you couldn’t be further away from right

          • yungkobra says:

I’ll continue to do me without your permission thanks!

          • boomersooner says:

You do you as much as possible if that’s what you’re into. Just wash your hands

          • Boom says:

I guess we are asking, is it his footwork, throwing motion, or offense. If you are specific on what he isn’t able to physically do, let us in on this info. I’m not saying he’s Brady/Manning but help us understand your knowledge of the position.

          • Brad Warren says:

Exactly. Trevor is clearly talented and can throw the football effectively. We’ve all seen it. Yes, last year was disappointing but again I point to there being no real offensive structure or system. Trevor never looked comfortable. The coaches often weren’t getting play calls delivered in a timely manner. I love Josh Heupel and greatly appreciate everything he did as a player and coach, but he wasn’t effective last yr. I am really excited to see this year’s version of Trevor in new offense under Riley.

          • boomersooner says:

Yeah. I wonder if Josh wasn’t confident in himself or in his players or if he had too much confidence. But you’re right, something was amiss. I’m excited too. I like Lincoln a lot already

          • Fear The Magic says:

Im with you on that. I think Riley and his system will make all the difference in the world with TK plus the other QBs as well.

          • boomersooner says:

It seems that way don’t it? If somebody goes down (knock wood), it seems #2 won’t miss a beat

      • Krys Allen says:

obviously you didn’t watch Texas play the last 2 years

  • LLAdamJ7 says:

I hope Trevor has taken advantage of this time to separate himself. I really think he’s a better option long term than Mayfield.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Yeah he is if he ever becomes consistent

    • Lane Gilstrap says:

Trevor’s problem is he only looks for shep…that’s his biggest weakness

      • Krys Allen says:

And Landry Jones only looked for Broyles, and BB only looked for Saunders…. product of the OC IMO

      • CS says:

Trevor’s problem is not seeing the LB undercutting the route!!!! Don’t know if that was a result of coaching, I sure hope so. I remember Landry used to make those game changing mistakes, as well. Look at just the receivers, without being aware of the change in scheme by the defense.

      • Fear The Magic says:

Shep was the one target that TK could count on not only getting open but actually catching the ball. Its looking that TK ( or whoever the QB ends up being) will have a lot more choices this year than last.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

    Thank you sir!

  • Lincoln Hawk says:

Wasn’t it Miller that took a lot of simple slant routes to the house in his high school film?

      • Lincoln Hawk says:

Thanks Jordan, reminds me of of why I was pumped when he committed to us. Seems like a great fit for Riley’s offense, he can take the screens for big gains and looks lethal on the deep ball, can really high point it.

        • Fear The Magic says:

I remember that Miler was almost an afterthought after we missed out on a few other WRs near the end of the recruiting period last year. I also remember watching his HUDL and thinking Hell YEAH Im glad we got this guy.

          • Zack says:

I don’t remember why he was such an after thought, were people unsure if he would be able to qualify? Because he seems like a guy tech should have had locked up or tcu with the type of season they had last year.

      • WilliamJack says:

What a great highlight reel! He looks like a young Randy Moss.

  • Matt says:

I remember hearing alot about Mead last fall camp…is he expected to be a big contributor this year?

    • Jordan Esco says:

I think there will be a chance for a bunch of guys behind Shepard & probably Westbrook to be contributors, simply b/c they’re expected to rotate in a lot more guys at WR than they ever really did under Norvell.

      • Matt says:

does it frustrate you as much as it does me thinking of
Norvell’s tenure at OU? So many talented guys that never developed thanks to him. Can you imagine what OU’s record in ’12 & ’13 would’ve been if he hadn’t landed Brown, Saunders & Bester? In my understanding he could only develop 1 receiver at a time with us: Broyles then Stills then Shepard.

        • Jordan Esco says:

absolutely. hell of a recruiter, but for whatever reasons seemed to really struggle to actually develop guys (with a handful of obvious exceptions) once they got on campus.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

Maybe some guys were going to develop regardless, and that may be your point. Regardless, happy to see him in Texas.

          • Fear The Magic says:

Good to know that the Texas WRs will now be developing at a snails pace.

          • Zack says:

He sure did a hell of a job teaching guys to block downfield. If nothing else he was good at that.

        • hemisooner says:

that was his problem at all of his stops. Great guy and recruiter not so much on developing the talent. And this should be used against him while at texas

        • Brad Warren says:

Exactly and it wasn’t like he was working with a blank canvas w those three studs. Not sure he had to do much ” developing” in regards to them. On the other hand, I still think DeJuan Miller should’ve, could’ve been very effective. Of course, he along with countless other guys never panned out. I’m really excited that Cale is working with the receivers. I know he will get the job done.

  • Matt says:

also, I don’t care if we win the big 12 this year, I just wanna freaking beat Baylor. Geez!

  • Sooner 4Ever says:

I really, REALLY hope our receivers are world class, 1st-round-draft-pick type talents. Otherwise, hearing that Westbrook is almost impossible to cover, Dahu is lighting it up, Jeff Mead is looking great in 7-on-7, and now A.D. Miller is consistently getting on top of the defense on deep balls… that’s not what you want to hear concerning a secondary that was more floodgate than dam last year.

    • hemisooner says:

7 on 7 is going to favor the offense bc there is no pass rush. I believe just a week or so ago. PJ made a nice int and people wanted to know who threw it. I look at the report as AD Miller has speed to stretch the field. Something we have been lacking.

      • Sooner 4Ever says:

Yeah, I’m quite aware of how 7-on-7 works. If we had been even decent last year in pass coverage, such reports wouldn’t be so concerning. The fact is, we were near the bottom of all of college football last year in pass coverage. We also didn’t have anyone on offense who could get open last year after Sterling went down.

It’s a little disconcerting to think that our receivers who couldn’t beat anyone on a rout last year have finally found some DBs they can beat… our DBs who couldn’t cover anyone last year. Especially given that the guys we’ve been hearing these glowing reports about are Mead (a guy who couldn’t get, or stay, on the field last year despite our troubles getting open), 2 true freshmen, and a juco transfer (albeit a highly regarded one).

So I say again, I hope these reports are a result of our receivers being really, really good. The alternative is not pleasant to think about.

        • hemisooner says:

our secondary was very young and inexperienced. Wilson was put in no win situation for him. He should have stayed as the NB. This year will be different. New Coach and year under their belt. Parker and Thomas will make huge jump this year. Plus add in a great pick up in Will Johnson, PJ, and Kahlil. Things are looking up in the secondary

          • SoonerMGB56 says:

I have ZERO faith in A Thomas. But I’m hopeful for the rest.

          • hemisooner says:

I can see the reasoning by not having faith. He didn’t play well but it was his first time starting. So we will see if he has improved.

          • SoonerMGB56 says:

Hey, if the kid steps up, great. I remember Gabe Lynn becoming a solid player, after an inauspicious start to his career.

But I’ll be popping Rolaids the whole time he’s in there, for a few games at least.

          • hemisooner says:

exactly, that’s why you can’t give up on a young man.

          • SoonerMGB56 says:

Fair enough. But I’ll keep my supply of Rolaids stocked up.

          • hemisooner says:

            hahahaha

          • Sooner 4Ever says:

Not go all Matteon on you, but you can’t have it both ways. We were bad last year because we were young… but we’re going to be better this year because of true freshmen?

I think we will be better this year (GOD I hope so anyway)… but I think it will be more the result of the coaching change. Having all the DBs under one coach, hearing one voice, will help. And Mike was so busy trying to coordinate the defense that he wasn’t effective at coaching up his guys during the game (which was where the greatest breakdown was occurring).

Could some of the incoming players help? Sure. But the same issues we had last year due to youth will likely rear their head again this year if we’re playing true freshmen.

          • hemisooner says:

those young freshman don’t have to start but provide depth. Big difference. Starting 3 inexperience S will hurt your pass defense and S is the hardest position to master. Plus, we had to throw a true freshman that never played the position before.I agree on the one voice. It makes a big difference for the players.

  • KJ1123 says:

Sounds like the receivers are looking good. However, not to be the boo bird here, but nothing is going to happen unless this O-line can get it straight. Bill’s a good coach, but this is the first year where he is really going to have to put in some work. He had 4 guys last year and the year before that kept that unit together. Nobody is getting the ball when the QB (whoever it is) is on their back or throwing picks because of the pressure. This unit more than any other unit needs to be solid, no other unit depends on each other to work as one. (Fingers crossed)

    • hemisooner says:

good thing in this offense is you don’t need much time to throw

      • Sooner Ray says:

That will be key this year.

      • KJ1123 says:

Definitely, 5-7 step drops would not be advised.

        • KJ1123 says:

And it makes me a little nervous that we never see any OL updates.

          • Sooner 4Ever says:

Don’t be too concerned about that… there’s not much linemen can do to get mentioned this time of year.

          • KJ1123 says:

They’ve been doing 1 on 1’s most of the summer, would be nice to hear how they are performing

          • Sooner 4Ever says:

True, but O-line is all about five big’uns playing as one, more so than 5 individual 1 on 1 matchups. Think of it this way… during a game, you don’t want to hear about or notice the O-line, as generally they only get noticed when they screw up. The same thing kind of applies to OL/DL work during the summer.

Individually you’re right, definitely don’t want to hear their names called. But sometimes no news doesn’t always equate to good news.

          • James Starr says:

How about running OL against DL in blocking schemes. That would let them get some cohesion

          • Boom says:

Here’s one, they are lifting heavy weights and running hard. : )

          • KJ1123 says:

            And eating ALOT…

          • Super K says:

The OL lift and work on pass rush drills and whatnot so getting an assessment of their progress is more difficult. WRs, DBs, LBs and QBs play in 7 on 7 so we can at least get competition info

          • KJ1123 says:

I hear you K, not saying you guys aren’t reporting or getting info, just nervous that every position has had at least one person stand out and reported on this summer, and the only real thing that stood out for the OL in the summer and spring I think was Nila’s injury updates.

  • jonnyBgood says:

How has Tre Brown not been offered yet?!? #1 player in the state at a premium position from a prestigious program from which many D1 kids have come. No freaking brainer! I am scratching my head on this one. Offer the kid already….please!!!

    • Super K says:

I think the reality is that under a traditional timeline OU would be correct in waiting. But things are changing and OU is going to have to quit reacting and start being proactive; creating trends instead of continually trying to catch up. The loss of Montgomery was a huge blow but his success and methodology should also have been eye opening for fans and for the staff. I am beginning to actually think a modified version of Alabama’s offer strategy is something that needs to be considered.

      • SoonerMGB56 says:

K, I could listen to you all day….could you be more specific about the strategy you’re espousing?

      • CS says:

Hi K, big fan, but very interested to know your thinking behind this. So, do you feel that we need to offer a lot of kids or you think we need to offer them very early or both?

But, the question here is with respect to Bobs commitment to these young men. Following recruiting under Bobs time, we have always been very conservative w.r.t to offers, but when someone commits, we never (I don’t remember an incident) where we rescind the offer, or ask the kid to grey-shirt, which Alabama does, quite often. I personally believe that is a correct/ethical approach. But, looks like most of the SEC don’t heed to ethics any more. Most of the time, this approach is also lucrative, when kids transfer or are dismissed, you are over filled, and you are not short of players. But, I know you are not in support of that either, just curious what that ‘modified version’ will entail.

        • Super K says:

OU essentially did it just last yr with Tyrell Jacobs. They would’ve honored his commitment but they made it pretty clear where they stood. Jerry was a very aggressive recruiter in that way. I’ll have to write something up explicating my points above a little better though; specifically related to the offers.

      • Mysterio1 says:

Recruiting is now 24/7/365, waiting is pretty much over IMO……
Oklahoma appears to be behind again with modern college football. I really miss the excitement Montgomery brought to the program.

    • Jeff says:

      FINALLY!!!

  • Indy_sooner says:

I don’t think I have fully processed the depth of quality guys we got in DB and WR last year. First time in a long time for sure.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Whoever can protect the ball the best will be the guy for us at QB – Bob Stoops

  • Mizuno44 says:

Super K, any insight from your sources on Cody Thomas? Is he progressing enough to be a legitimate contender for the starting job?

    • SoonerGoneEast says:

He was ALMOST listed as an afterthought when BS was asked about the QB race in the PC today. Bob did say he was progressing nicely and was a big guy with a strong arm.

    • Super K says:

While some of the things coach Stoops said were absolutely coach speak, I’ll admit on this point I have def heard (and written on here earlier in the summer) that Cody is closing the gap. Just wouldn’t wager it’ll be enough but who knows? Everyone counted Knight out a couple yrs ago

      • Mizuno44 says:

Great thanks. Sure would like to see Cody develop into the mold of a Bryce Petty type.

  • kt-raida says:

Is there any news concerning Mixon and Shannon we should be worried about?

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

2018 kid back after already visiting less than 4 days ago? Interesting, he must have really loved his visit

    • hOUligan says:

Seriously! All the way from GA or does he have family in OK that he is visiting? Still, hard to get very excited about a 2018 kid, much less hanging on to him even if he were to commit, when we have immediate needs.

  • Jordan Esco says:

  • Travis Coyle says:

tutts offer list is insane for 2018!

  • Jordan Esco says:

  • Sooner Ray says:

Good to hear the news on Walker.

  • Boom says:

Wasn’t he offered some time ago?

    • Jordan Esco says:

      yes

      • Boom says:

Didn’t mean to imply this was a new offer. Cool we are being proactive on some of the 2018 kids. Now let’s go get pro-re-active on a couple that you guys have mentioned.

  • Randy says:

I know everyone hates when Stoops brings up the Alabama game but I would like to look at it differently. The defense has 6 players back in ’15 that started that bowl game.. Shows how young they were then, and it should make us as OU fans more excited about the posibilties of the defense this year. To add with that, the days of beating teams 55-10 are probably over but with solid run d, pressure on the qb (Sacks), and some forced turnovers we should have the opportunity to put up a lot of points with the new offense and hold teams to more field goals. Hence winning more like 40-27 games.

    • boomersooner says:

Yeah. I’ve never taken it as “hey everybody, ignore what’s going on, look at what we did a while back”. I look at it as “this is who we are. I see it in practice every day. For some reason we can’t put it together in some games in all 3 phases. So we’re not far off”

      The short version:
Negative thinkers-we’re not that far removed
Positive thinkers-we’re not that far away

      • Zack says:

I would say both of those are optimistic views. “Not far removed” implies that you’re not far off either

    • Zack says:

What I want to see is the offense be more efficient in the areas of pass tds to ints, completion % and 3rd down conversion % we all know the completion rate last year was embarrassing and while we were a highly rated offense, we were about 48 or 50th in 3rd down conversions % which with the rushing attack we have/had that’s not good enough. I fully expect the points per game will be a touchdown better than last season and I think we averaged 36 last year.

Then the defense just needs to get back to attacking and not being reactive.

    • Krys Allen says:

My take is… what else do you expect him to say as far as positive news? Last year in my opinion our best win came against Tenesee. You really do have to do back to the sugar bowl to find something worth talking about. The alternative would be for him to get up in the spotlight with a frownie face and say “Well last year sucked, sorry” and that is just not going to happen. If we had curb stomped Clemson I guarantee that would be the game he mentioned.

  • rphokc says:

haven’t kept up closely with recruiting………who is tre brown………thxs

    • OohRah Mama says:

Get that horrid prison/safety cone orange off, young man. You look great in Crimson.

  • BleedCrimson says:

    G-Day minus 46
    Brandon Moore

    • EasTex says:

Good find, I had forgotten about Moore.
I have a personal connection to OU #46, Tremayne Green was from my home town and was the leader of our high school’s state championship team, as well as being 1st team All-State. He didn’t have as distinguished an OU career as he and us expected, he had a “pinched” nerve his junior year(93) and missed 7 games. In ’94 he took OU to court so he could play, an interesting story.
      http://newsok.com/court-order-green-will-play-for-ou-sooners-get-just-what-they-were-after/article/2476130/?page=2

I also remember a few other Sooners who wore that number, Cory Mayfield/Darryl Goodlow.

      • BleedCrimson says:

I remember reading about him winning the right to play. Looked high and low for a pic. Day is not over yet. 🙂

Kid went thru a lot for the right to play. Love the determination.

        • EasTex says:

I read a piece a few years back about Green and he had just moved into a house across the street from Switzer. He got up his nerve one day and crossed the street with his copy of Switzer’s book to ask for an autograph. He said before he got to the front door it opened and Switzer said “get your big butt in here, Tremayne.” He got a kick out of that.

        • EasTex says:

Here is a video from the 1990 5A Big School State Championship game, the only year it was called that because of Marshall having a smaller daily enrollment than the 5A Small School State Champion…by about 1300 fewer students. LOL!
Marshall is in white, and Tremayne Green was the MLB #44.

I have a personal connection also…..I wore that number for 3 years in HS. 🙂

Hey EastT…what’s the latest on your daughter? Released from ICU?

      • JB says:

        I thought Tremayne was 44?
