    Happy Friday, TFB!!

And thanks for the Switzer video!

  • Eric Hoffpauir says:

Wow! According to that article, those goats in Stillwater will be “absolutely loved on by two men.”

    • pitbull17 says:

that whole story is hilarious and kinda describes the pukes in a nutshell. But if they don’t want peta causing problems for them, they better get those goats a chastity belt.

  • pitbull17 says:

Looks like we dodged a bullet with DBG. I can remember all of us really wanting that kid at OU, but I’m glad he didn’t come now. Just think if OU would have had him and Metoyer on the same team, WR would look totally different right now.

    • ND52 says:

Just another reason to not put too much stock in the whole recruiting affair. We’ve no idea what these kids are really like or how they’ll adjust to college life. If they even adjust at all.

I’d really like to get with a shrink and have them explain the psychological ramifications of being a blue-chip recruit in today’s NCAA. I can’t imagine how big these ego’s get when you’ve got adults telling you how great you are 24/7.

  • pitbull17 says:

Just incase you didn’t want to read it, I pulled this quote straight from the article about Stillwater, You’re welcome:

“As far as the goats go. It gives you something
to get out of bed and come and do.”

  • Dustin Parish says:

Here are a few notes from the student practice: Dakota Austin looks like he may be pushing to be the starter opposite of Zanchez. He picked off Knight on the first play of the short. scrimage.
Derrick Woods has a lot of potential at reciever, he caught a pretty sweet TD pass from Knight in the corner if the end zone.
The run game didn’t look as strong as one would imagine it to be, probably because of the changes with the O-line. However, it didn’t look weak either just average at this point.
In my opinon, Baker Mayfield would be the number two guy for sure if he was eligible. He and Trevor just throw much tighter/accurate passes than the other two.
Hatari Byrd was flying around in practice although one time he was out of position and Mike was pretty quick to let him know so.
Justice Hansen still looks like he has a lot to learn but at one point he threw about a beautiful 40 yard pass to K.J. Young (I believe) and it looks like he has a lot of potential.

All of this info is just coming from a 30 minute scrimage so there wasn’t a ton that could stand out but it is what I noticed

  • Leroy Jenkins says:

That “Meet the Bag Man” story you linked to is eye-opening. Lots of intriguing quotes, but this one hits home for me:

“Hey, how’d he get that ride? His uncle bought it. How did his uncle buy
it? Paid cash. Paid cash, how’d he do that? S*&t, we don’t know, but
here’s the receipt where he paid cash, and now y’all ain’t got s*&t. Go
tell the NCAA you think we’re cheating because this kid’s uncle bought
him a used Tahoe in cash, you racist.”

True story I’m about to share here. I am very good friends, for the past 8.5 years, with the brother and 1st cousin of a very prominent recruit that went to Okie State. This kid was a really great player and had a long offer sheet, but decided to go to OSU. My friends and I were really excited for him because Gundy told him he’d play right away (this was several years ago, I’m not giving away his name or dates). Anyways, Christmas time rolls around and I go to pick them up in my 2004 Honda Civic. They get in the car and we head to Buffalo Wild Wings to watch a college bowl game. Here’s the conversation we had:

Brother: “Bro, when you gonna give me your car?” (They did not come from money).
Me: “Bro, you know I can’t do that. Maybe (this recruit’s name) will hook you up when he gets to the NFL.”
1st cousin: “S*&t, hope so. He came home for the break in that bad ass Escalade and everything.”
    Me: “I call B.S.”
Brother: “It’s a couple years old, but it’s got rims, sound system, tinted windows, everything. Rode in it yesterday to McDonalds.”
Me: “Huh… So, how’d he afford that? He didn’t have a car in high school here.”
1st Cousin: “So you saying that since he’s black he can’t get a nice ride like that?”
Me: “Uh, no…I’m saying he couldn’t afford an old Pontiac just a year ago and now he’s got a nice Escalade.”
Brother: “S*&t you in college and everything, why do you care? You’ll buy a better car soon, he took the Escalade while he could.”

This went on for a while, basically ending up where I (a Caucasian) couldn’t ask where he got the Escalade from because he’s African American. When I hung out with the recruit and the rest of their family, it wasn’t brought up at all, but sure enough his silver Escalade was always sitting right out front.

That recruit isn’t at Okie State any more, but that article reminded me of that conversation. I know this isn’t surprising to anyone reading this, but it’s different when you personally know someone who’s received these “gifts.”

Sorry this was so lenghty, and great work as usual!

…….just curious how tfb covers a live game and reports. I gather at least a couple of you don’t live in ok and don’t know about the others for sure. You’re not allowed to go to press conferences since that’s only for ‘regular media’, I think…………so, are at least one of you able to attend in person and that’s where the report will come from? Or do you rely on your own sources for the eyeball reports……or are these ‘state secrets’ and none of my business……enjoy the coverage……..thxs

    • Jordan Esco says:

Let me just preface all of this by CLEARLY stating this is in no way intended to come off as confrontational as it may possible read. So please just know that before going any further.

Who ever said TFB isn’t allowed to go to press conferences? TFB has been at press conferences, just one example —> https://thefootballbrainiacs.com/post-practice-quotes-and-notes-with-the-offense-we-will-keep-updating-this

But to your other point, no site/reporter worth a flip would reveal who their sources were. Thus no one here would be wiling to share that.

Which I can appreciate that is not what you’re asking, I just wanted to briefly make that point.

TFB is aware of the accusations being made from others and has, for the most part, refused to respond/acknowledge them because, quite frankly, they are ridiculous.

The premise that TFB has to be making up practice info because no one here is allowed to attend practices is ridiculous. Do other OU sites post practice info? Yes. Are other OU sites allowed to attend practices? No.

So by simple logic and reasoning wouldn’t that mean anyone propagating this asinine theory also then be guilty of the exact same thing they’re accusing another of being?

I’m not here to speak for the group, but I do feel confident in saying no one here is putting out info that is ‘make believe’ or something all of us wouldn’t stand behind. No matter what you might hear/read elsewhere.

      Thank you for reading!

      • rphdenton says:

….mr esco……I understand the spirit of your answer. I just got curious after reading that one of you guys is in Chicago……just interested in generalizations on how it worked, not specifics. Re media, that was my assumption. In any event, perhaps I shouldn’t have asked but thxs for your response. Carry on…..

        • Jordan Esco says:

No worries whatsoever on you asking. That’s one of the reasons we’re here, at your disposal 😉

The gist of what I was trying to get at was that “seeing things first-hand” isn’t something any site, be it OU related or not, can claim when Stoops is closing practices.

Again, not to speak for TFB, but they’re not here saying their sources are better than what everyone else has. Clearly some, who IMO seem to feel threatened, seem to think that, but I’d welcome anyone to show me where that has ever been said on the site. If it has then I’ll gladly take back what I’ve said, but I don’t believe that will be the case.

TFB stands by their sources or they wouldn’t bother posting what they’ve been told in the first place. Now, are they gonna be right 100% of the time? No, obviously not. The Nick Saban thing being a primary example.

Sorry for the novel type lengthy response 😉

But, at the same time, no site/reporter is going to have an unblemished track record. When you rely on sources, you’re putting your trust in that person. Sometimes they burn you, or sometimes they’re just wrong. It happens to everyone.

Much like w/ anything in life, you try your best to learn from your mistakes in order to not repeat them in the future. IMO, I firmly believe that is what TFB is doing here on a daily basis.

    Red/White game visitors:

I saw this list from Borba22 on expected visitors for tomorrow’s spring game and it’s pretty close to what I’ve been able to find via the Twitter-verse. So I’m just going to put it here (w/ some minor edits) in lieu of making an entirely separate post about it. Mainly b/c I’ve always hated those type of posts b/c it’s such a fluid situation. Kids’ plans change all the time, so these type of lists are almost always impossible to be accurate on.

For instance, there is already talk on one OU $$$ board that Bo Wallace is now not going to be in Norman. So, like I was saying, this thing is fluid and almost impossible to get right.

    Joe Mixon
    Michiah Quick
    Will Sunderland
    Tay Evans
    Bobby Evans
    Dahu Green
    Dwayne Orso
    Matt Farniok
    Du’Vonta Lampkin
    Abdul Beecham
    Conner Dyer
    Drew Galitz
    Kahlil Haughton
    Reggie Hemphill
    Jaylon Henderson
    Wesley Horky
    Denver Johnson
    Caleb Kelly
    Will Lockett
    Kenneth Mann
    Tyler Moore
    C.J. O’Grady
    Samaje Perine
    Anthony Wheeler
    Tim Settle
    Jared Mayden
    Jace Sternberger

    • Steve Johns says:

Unless something has changed in the last day or so, Dallis Todd can be added to the list.

    • Will Narramore says:

chances we land a commitment this weekend and if so, from who?

    • wolfbuilder says:

It looks to me that Derrick Farniok little brother Matt could be a big time recruit. Looks like he has offers from Iowa St, Iowa, Nebraska, and Wash St

  • BigJoeBrown says:

I have never really paid much attention to recruiting until the closer to national signing day. But is it common for OU to have a bunch of recruits that the spring game or is that something new?

  • Jordan Esco says:

Joe Mixon says he’s expecting to wear No. 20, which carries some inherent expectations from one Billy Sims.
