Sooners News Daily 3.31.14

Okay, we’re trying something new here at The Football Brainiacs. I’m pretty confident most, if not all, of you are familiar with this style of ‘blogging’ as it is a common — and in my experience, popular — practice amongst the online community.

But as with everything we do here, the goal is to give the people what they want. So we’re going to try this on a trial basis to start and then pending your feedback, we can either make it a fixture of the site or discontinue it altogether. So please be sure to let us know what you think in the comments below.

The local media isn’t doing Sooners RB Alex Ross any favors in terms of tempering expectations amongst OU fans. (Tulsa World)

RECRUITING

We’ll have to check with K to see if he can follow up with Gibson’s people and see if this was just ‘knowing your audience’ or if this blurb is any more substantial.

OTHER

Thanks Jordan, now I can just cancel newspaper subscriptions because you give me all the news here in one place! 🙂 Trying to put Hale out of a job?

As far as Gibson, why is that tweet so shocking? He came to OU during spring break and even most coaches were on the road. I don’t see anything to be upset about.

What has PapaBear been smoking? Get me his bet lined out STAT!

    • Jordan Esco says:

re: Gibson – I guess I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s shocking per se. But if some were to read into it, they might come away w/ it not being as promising for OU’s chances is all. Though, I’d very much agree that at this point there w/b little to be upset about.

      • Sooner Ray says:

Gibson has been a long shot from day one. I know Super K has hope because he has some close contact but the average fan is just hoping for the best and expecting reality. Keep up the good work BTW.

    • Indy_sooner says:

Not surprised, even before the visit. I just think the allure of an immediate (or sooner) start will be too much a pull for a kid like TG. I see Auburn leading this one guys, unfortunately.

      • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Tennessee is making quite a push for him, plus the amount of Vols tweeting him to go there is ridiculous. So I could see the Vols along with Auburn being at top for him.

  • Steve Cooke says:

We made LB Justin Hilliard’s top ten & LB DeBerry announces his leaders tonite @ 1730 central.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Take it fwiw, but Gibson has continued to reiterate what was said in the tweet above in a couple other interviews. No mention of OU in any of those that I’ve read.

    • CoachStauder says:

      $$$$

    • hOUligan says:

It sounded like he spent a lot of time going over the offense with Coach H but, in the end, didn’t see himself there. If he’s set on the sec with Auburn and UTenn as leaders, great. Coach H can move on. As far as the links, meh. It’s cool as long as you do what TFB does best, give the masses football/recruit breakdowns and not more
reporter speak fluff. TFB is different and a grateful Sooner Nation thanks you!!

  • kt-raida says:

This format is perfect makes FB a one stop shop for information!

    • Jordan Esco says:

      Appreciate the feedback!

    • PLAW0720 says:

Ditto. Really nice job. Making we wonder why I would go back to any other OU message board. The conversation here is crisp, clean, and on message. It’s a pleasure not having to read through all of the pre-adolescent garbage on other boards. Thank you! Boomer!

  • j l says:

I like this format, even if it was a once a week type of post. Love to read lots of articles.

  • John says:

Great format Jordan. Your efforts are much appreciated. As for Gibson, I’m not surprised. He was always a longshot. A very longshot. Maybe now Josh can focus his efforts on another Trevor Knight-type prospect. I’ll take one of those any day.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Sounds like mostly positive feedback, so I’ll go ahead w/ this (at least for now). If things change or you’d like to see something different, please just let me know.

    Thanks, y’all

    • Doobie74OU says:

I”M JUST NOT SURE THIS IS A GOOD IDEA! I’m on FB about half the day already and it is going to be very hard to keep my job if you keep this up! LOL! JK

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

I don’t typically have a need to go to any OK news sites (since I don’t live there), and miss out on a lot of OU articles, so it’s nice to have them all in one place. Thanks, I like this.

  • WilliamJack says:

Always good info from the best OU site around! BOOMER!

  • Alexander says:

I like it. The only thing I wish you guys had is a forum where us regular visitors could discuss topics

  • JB says:

I’m not that interested in a page that links to other websites and their stories. Quite frankly, I’m more interested in hearing the opinions of the Brainiacs’ staff than the same old reporters spouting the same old shite.

    • tforce says:

The landthieves aggregator does the same thing.

    • nisakat2 says:

      amen

    • Jordan Esco says:

I don’t entirely disagree w/ any of you on this side of things. It’s why I’ve been hesitant to do something like this in the past. But some seem to like it for whatever reasons they find it helpful. We’ll see how it goes, not necessarily a permanent thing at the moment.

    • Jordan Esco says:

Also, fwiw, my plan isn’t to link to any and everything OU related article (or whatever) simply b/c it’s OU related. I couldn’t possibly agree more w/ your stance on “the same old shite” as you put it. Thus, I don’t plan on linking to that kind of crap.

It’s a work in progress and quite honestly it’s meant to serve primarily as a compliment to what I’d like to believe are the main features of this site, much like what you’ve suggested, educated opinions and intelligent insight. That will continue to be the focus, this is more for slower news days when there isn’t a ton to talk about (like this time of year) and, let’s be honest, more of a content driver.

  • tforce says:

Not OU related, but UCLA is taking OOC scheduling to a new level
    2014: Texas
    2015: UVa (weak link)
    2016: A&M
    2017: A&M
    2018: OU
    2019: OU
    2020:
    2021: LSU
    2022: Michigan
    2023: Michigan
    2014: LSU

    • hOUligan says:

Nice. The home and home with UCLA will keep OU’s footprint on the west coast solid.

  • oupunk says:

I hope that whatever the issue is, it get resolved quickly. Miss the practice updates

  • EasTex says:

Actually, I was wondering about Bomar and actually meant to do a search the other day to see what he was up to. Thanks.
So does Tramel think Shepherd is chopped liver?
Hambone has an OU teaser up as of a few hours ago.
