Well, while we wait we can all enjoy watching a Texas A&M throw a shoulder and a punch at WV players that ran into the TAMU sideline.

He wasn’t allowed back on the field after halftime. Doubt he returns to the field with the Aggies and rightfully so.
It’s pretty poorly officiated. That was an obvious targeting call when A and M hit helmet to helmet on Howard, and the roughing the kicker call was nonsense and should have been five yards not fifteen. A&M is dirty and even their coaches are throwing forearms into players. That’s so chicken$hit it’s unbelievable! Go big 12. Both teams are kind of a mess as far as play goes and the penalties are all but out of control. There will be blood in the second half! And there’s no way they will be done in time for our game…

Not just OU either. I caught a game earlier this year, not knowing it was him. He made about five comments in a row along the lines of, “they have to pass on this play,” “they will kick for sure” etc. He missed badly on each one. Unbelievable.

We haven’t been a good tackling team in about 7 years. Especially in the secondary. That crap doesn’t go on Mike, or the position coaches. That is on the players, and it should be embarrassing to them.

We should be recruiting guys that can tackle and coaching them to tackle better. That is a coached skill, doesn’t always come natural.
I disagree. Completely. Not saying the guys can’t be better, or more fundementally sound tacklers in college, but the kind of players OU is recruiting should know 90% of what they need to know about tackling, before they ever set foot in Norman.
So they can’t evaluate kids well enough to know if they can tackle in space at the d1 level? When this trend continues year after year the constant is the coaches they’re here every year with new players that can’t tackle…hmnnn

We had our run from 2000 to 2008. Better than anybody. Unfortunate and a bit unlucky that we only have 1 NC to show for that period, but it is what it is.
Look at the other teams that are powerhouses. Look at Florida. Look at USC. Look at Michigan. LSU. Nebraska. Every one of those teams has ended up in a much worse position than OU is currently in. And outside of Saban and Bama, even with OU’s recent struggles, no other team/coach has outperformed OU and Bob Stoops.
I used to freak out when fans of other teams said OU fans were obnoxious. They were right. We have some pretty shitty fans. Embarrassing.
And 4/5 of those teams just fired their coaches! We are NOT bad fans because we recognize grossly unprepared teams and poor game planning! Calling out an underperforming staff needs to happen when this CRAP product is put on the field!! I appreciate the fact you support OUr team, but so do we without the crimson colored glasses.

Soonerfan, I don’t think anyone I’d complaining about not winning a MNC. The complaints are about not being prepared, not being motivated, not playing to their abilities and basically laying a gigantic egg. This reminds me of the Orange Bowl against Arkansas after the 77 season.
Bob has shown that a can’t get a flat team to get up off the mat. Whether USC in 04 BCS Championship or this game, they are clueless about what to do. Clemson is emotional as USC was in 04. We’re as flat.

No. Should I expect less from them because of their human imperfection? No. Does that mean they should expect to fail? No. Should they expect their brothers to fail because they won’t be number one? No. Should their Drill Instructors have said “You won’t always win in combat so let’s just sit around wasting the next thirteen weeks.”? Oh hell no. I damn sure start each season expecting a NC, and to do less belittles my program. Will we spend some seasons sucking? Yep. But that shouldn’t – and will never be – my standard for my Oklahoma Sooners Football team. Go…fly a kite and be assured that what you say doesn’t mean diddly squat to more of us than you’re comfy knowing. That attitude of expecting less is what’s embarrassing.

My dad grew up helping the equipment manager pick up tackling dummies in the late 30’s and early 40’s, sold concessions just to get into the games, and taught me to love the Sooners in the 60’s. I’ve followed the Sooners intently since about ’69 and watched Berry feed the monster that my dad had watched Bud create. That, sir, is Oklahoma football – winning championships and contending for national championships more years than not. My dad, an Oklahoma all-state OT/DE in ’48, would be the first to call out the keystone cops running the OU sideline. If we are shitty fans, the so be it. But, it is not unreasonable for us to expect OU to play at a high level every year. Fans that make excuses for coaches that put a product on the field that more resembles a powderpuff team are more fans of the coaches than they are of the Sooners.

When there is little to no fire and passion from the head coach there won’t be any from the players and when you play afraid you create more bad luck. There have been signs for a while that a complete overhaul wad needed but as far as I’m concerned this is the nail in the coffin we need to start over with someone who has a real passion to coach and recruit. What proof do you have? These are kids. There is nothing to be gained? You want a Knute Rockne speech? What do you see that tells you they aren’t prepared? Poor tackling in on the Db, offsides on the Db, poor blocking on the OL, passing on the QB.
What more proof do you need other than the performance on the field. If you think coaching matters so little to the success on the field then why have a coach at all cause its all on the players to play right?
Poor preparation leads to all the mistakes you mentioned. Poor tackling due to not tackling enough in practice. Poor blocking due to not preparing for the blitzes and stunts a defense is going to use against you. Offsides due to lack of discipline coaching. Poor QB play due to failure to recruitt properly its all right there you just choose to excuse the caoches and I choose to hold them accountable for their production.
There isn’t a soul who played this game watching tonight who wouldn’t tell you that this team is poorly coached and woefully prepared. If there is, they’re intellectually dishonest.

I really have no problem with our QB’s. i think that they all have a ton of raw talent. What worries me is that its still raw, and their development is just non-existent.

I have a ton of problems with OU’s QB situation. Outside of Mayfield (who was not evaluated by Stoops) this team has a pack of horribly mis-evaluated youngsters at that position. Knight is TRULY the best of them, IMO and that scares the hell out of me. Maybe Hansen has a shot, but I don’t feel this staff can evaluate talent anymore, period.
Chief as long as Hansen shouts out to the Lord…. Heupel will make him the starter…Trust me, it’s all about the faith with ole’ Heupel…

When I was at OU it was during the 70’s and Switzer. I remember us losing a few games (very few) but I don’t ever remember losing like this – just getting totally owned. I honestly feel like we are lucky to only be down 34-0.

There is no quick fix. Hopefully we are in the middle of fixing it. I think we’re probably looking at 3-4 coaches gone shortly. Coupled with the 2-3 we ran off two years ago, we’ll have nearly complete staff turnover in a 3 year period.

Well they sure can’t tackle. D Alexander is weak. The Qb ran right past him on the goal line. OU does not have LB who can cover and fill holes or drive runners back. Jordan Thomas can’t tackle, hayes is a stiff at safety, A Thomas is playing scared and so is Parker. Sanchez was just dumb tonight.

It’s a reality when it comes to CFB. I don’t know how long you’ve been watching OU, but in 84 against Washington they didn’t prepare as Bosworth notes in his book. In 1977, against Arkansas, same situation. Still it’s not an excuse you are right. Bama against Utah in 2010? Perhaps some players don’t consider certain games that important. Bama last year? I say they did because it was a game. They scored 31 points didn’t they? The QB was running the length of the field to celebrate TD’s against us.

i’ve been saying this about OU for a couple of years, they are what I like to call a “bully team”, basically, if they have more talent than you and can beat you up they will run all over you. However, if you smack them in the mouth and make them taste some adversity, they run into a corner like a little girl

Disappointed that we showed some quit twice this season. No excuse for that. if you’ve been on a team before then you know they all wanted to win every game and how much work goes into that before the whistle blows. The results were unacceptable. But at the end of the day it’s over and I’m still A sooner supporter.

But I think it needs to be made clear to him that he isn’t “Coach for Life.” We expect better from him and the tea and I think he would agree.
One of the things that bothers me most about this year is that we seemed to get worse as the season went on. That is a leadership problem. It is not normal for players to get worse. It is fixable, but it is going to take soe work.

Texas is the sleeping giant of college football. The make more than $30M than any other program.
They chased Nebraska and Missouri out of the Big 12 because they demand a bigger payout of conference revenue. Nobody in the SEC, Big 10 or PAC 12 does that. They are evil incarnate. But if they ever get their act together they will be a juggernaut.

Bob stoops has become mack brown, lloyd Carr, bo pelini, etc… He’ll give you 8+ wins a year, but he will never win you another title. If you’re ok with that then he’s your guy. But those schools weren’t, so why should we?
Folks, I don’t believe there is a Plan B. Fire coaches all you want but the complacency from our storied University is blindingly (is that a word?) obvious. Giving a coaching staff raises for the last several years with mediocre results, and trending downward, is irresponsible at best. Top recruits are attracted to the “brand”, and ours is not at all attractive. I’m not smart enough to know exactly what to do, but doing nothing is not acceptable.

1. Becoming early NFL picks
2. Playing for National Championships
Sadly, we don’t really have a recent past in either area, especially in the defensive side of the ball

I can damn near guarantee you JH is quite capable of screwing up Mayfield too – whether it’s improperly utilizing his abilities, calling terrible pass option plays, or just doing a miserable job of developing him as a player, JH has proven, to my satisfaction at least, he cannot coach qb’s and call the plays at the same time. This guy clearly can’t ride 2 horses with one ass, and it’s time the HC figured that out.

The key if you want to make changes and keep BS is to allow MS to save face so to speak. He remains co-coordinator but is only really responsible for the secondary, that is what he will be in charge of. Bring in a def coordinator to game plan and be the assistant HC, that way MS is diminished but not embarrassed too much. JH is another matter. I don’t have an answer seeing he is connected to Boren.
Or BS can tell MS and JH it’s either me or you guys, and ask Pelini to take them at Youngstown.

Did you see the graphic during the game? BS is the 2nd most winning coach against the big 5 conferences. He has an amazing record.
Things may have gotten stale, and/or perhaps they just did some bad recruiting … but, yes … I’m optimistic they can turn things around. I don’t pretend to understand what will be required, but BS has a track record that warrants optimism, IMHO.
It is not helpful to sit around whining and grousing about how bad things went. Let’s feel bad for the players, particularly the seniors, but I’m ready to turn the page and start rooting for recruiting and next season.

Who cares? Most bowl games mean crap. You think this bowl game means anything as far as analyzing how good OU is or isn’t? Really? We’ve shown that bowl game results don’t necessarily carry over into the next season.
I’ve said it before…..non-Playoff bowl games don’t mean crap. It would be nice to win them all, but they don’t mean anything.
And that is where you would be totally wrong. The bowl games are measuring stick of the progress a team has made. win or lose you get a chance to work with guys you hadn’t and to get guys healthy and then you get to watch where they are compared to where they started the year. We went backwards.

For years when we screwed up there was talk about this assistant coach or that assistant coach or lack of talent at such and such position. One wondered how long it would be before some folks finally wised up to the one common denominator. Whether it was getting blown out by USC in 2005, not bothering to get off the bus for the fiesta bowl against WVU in 2007, or the disaster we witnessed tonight, there is one guy in a rather prominent position that has always been significantly involved in these embarrassments and keeps collecting rather large pay checks.
For a long time we have heard how Bob Stoops is committed to doing it right with integrity, even if it costs us key players. We heard how he leaves the office at quitting time and never, ever took his work home with him, because family comes first. At times it started to give the impression Bob was quite content to have a mediocre program so long as he was home in time for dinner. If that is the case, isn’t it about time for someone to ask why on earth OU has made him one of the top 3 or 4 highest paid coaches in the country? Do the results we have been getting the past 5 years justify such generous compensation?

But as I said after the TCU game, we are lazy at the coaching position because we do not know how to develop talent or scheme anymore. We never coach with an edge anymore!! This coaching staff lost our players weeks ago. The talent isn’t elite but there is talent on the field! Hell, you cannot tell me we have less talent than K St. or TCU. We simply do not know how to coach it!! I was told by the average sunshine pumpers to get off of the board, where are you boys now? Before you say I know nothing, please consider I am a retired coach who walked the sidelines for over 30 years!!!

I’ve just never been so disappointed in a season under Stoops and this game is the single biggest turd I’ve ever seen OU lay on a field. It’s not the loss. It’s not the score. It’s the way they did it. That really bothers me.
Just wish Stoops would stand up there and admit there are problems and state that he aims to fix those problems. The whole attitude and the “aw shucks it didn’t go our way what do you want me to do about it” thing has gotten stale. Get fired up about it and show some pride and some passion. But, instead, we will probably be reminded of Alabama. Of course I’m just a fan so he doesn’t care what I think anyway. He’s not in trouble until the money starts drying up anyway and he knows it.

Well as disappointed as I am in how we played for some reason I’m not as mad as I normally am. We all knew that changes needed to be made and I think this is exactly what we needed. Had we won this game I think the feeling would have been that maybe things were starting to get figured out and maybe give the coaches another year. Even if we had lost a close game maybe that is still the feeling, but after this embarrassment it is even more clear that changes need to be made and almost makes me feel certain that changes will be made. 2 years ago when Bob had to fire coaches he made hires that have turned out to be great for ou. I have 100% confidence that Bob will hire the right people. It has to get worse before it gets better. Ou will be great again. Boomer sooner!
In 5 more seasons with no changes in the coaching staff made we will be happy about an 8-5 season because we are stuck in Bob’s world of mediocrity!!!

I think we’ve put this off long enough. It may well be time for a serious discussion about Bob Stoops being shown the door. It’s not that Bob isn’t a capable coach; it seems more a matter of knowing when a coach doesn’t have the fire in his belly anymore. Can anyone honestly say Stoops really has the passion to win it all anymore?
It’s too late to snare a good coach at this point but the AD needs to start doing his homework for sure. I can’t believe that Stoops makes so much $$$……….

I wonder if Bob truly wants to coach anymore. It is a grueling job, even when you love it, and even if you get home for dinner most nights. After some number of years anyone could be a spent force. Could be he’s just used up. No shame in that, he’s grabbed for the brass ring four times (is that right?) and actually got it once.
But this year’s doormat games (Baylor and Clemson) and not paying attention at the end of Bedlam tell me he may have had enough.
I have thought the same thing many times. This job is demanding – no doubt about that. He really seems like he is burned out. I think he should really consider retirement.

Bill Snyder did more with his 2 and 3 star recruits (as did Briles) than Stoops has done with his “3.5 average” recruits in the past 3 years.

I remember the first time I really began to have doubts about whether Stoops would win the big one again . It was when I read a comment Bob Stoops had made to a reporter, I think after the 2007/08 Fiesta bowl embarrassment, and I wasn’t sure if many others really noticed it or not. He was asked about his players coming into big games unprepared, and he basically said that that being prepared was the players’ responsibility. I felt an almost overwhelming desire to ask him if he realized he was coaching a bunch of college kids or if he thought they were professional athletes. Today I feel like that same thought process is reflected every time he talks about “player execution” being responsible for a loss.
At the end of the day, I don’t think anyone is going to persuade Bob to commit any more time and energy into building a championship program than he already is. He seems to have already set the boundaries as to how much effort he’s willing to give in that regard. C’est la vie……I guess

Makes me think of the 30 for 30 on Bosworth. One of the things it showed was what a great motivator Switzer was. Brian talked about how he looked up to him and how Switzer made him believe. I don’t see anything even resembling that with this team. No belief. No fire. Nothing.
I’m sure the players at this point have become conditioned to these types of losses. We have them every season now. The expectations are no longer there from within the program.

I have a long theory that I won’t bore anyone with about how money has changed the college game and it isn’t about the color of the jersey anymore, or the name of the school, for anyone. The players, the coaches, school admins. As long as the checks don’t bounce everyone is using each other to make more. Switzer did have a passion, he lives to this day with a fire to win. I am not saying Stoops doesn’t want to win, but the definition of winning has changed. Bosworth said being told he was done as a Sooner killed him, he wanted to play another year. Now kids want to get the big contract as soon as they can. That’s the feeling I get from this program, new dorms, new stadium, money in bank accounts is winning.

The team looked as interested to be in the game as most fans were watching the game. No passion from the team at all. Kind of a fitting end to a captacular year.
Twice since 2009 OU was pre-season Top 5 and finished the season with 5 losses. Seems we do better when expectations for the season are low (aka last year)

If the coaches were as passionate as us fans about changing the face of the program, we would have already fired some of the guys, told them that every job is open and we will be making changes to the schemes in the offense and defense.
hopefully this highlights the problems we’ve had for years with the program… there are about 2-3 games a year where we play with emotion and passion. otherwise, we’re as robotic as our coaches. i love bob, but his legacy is now in serious doubt. the best thing about this year is that they cannot point to our bowl ‘performance’ to provide an excuse for failure. both coordinators have to go —– but bob needs to find legit coaches to replace them. otherwise, we’re texas and he’s mack brown

After listening to post game, nobody seems terribly unhappy or concerned. That was more disheartening than the game. If you are the OU Qb and tonight doesn’t make you a little upset with yourself after throwing 3 picks, that’s sad. If you’re the head coach and all you can say is we didn’t play well, that’s salad. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t expect them to be throwing stuff angry, just admit the obvious – you failed.
It’s the same passion on the field, shouldn’t be shocked.

A lot of OU fans didn’t respect Clemson’s defensive ranking since they play in the ACC, but I have to admit, they have fire and attack as an aggressive and cohesive unit. I wish we could see this on our team.
They looked bigger, faster and stronger all the way across the board.

You don’t change coaches unless there is a viable candidate that you think will get more wins and compete on a national level. It’s like quiting a job before you have found another one. Whose your replacement?
At the moment given the time frame It would be impossible to say.. Perhaps giving Schiano a call would no hurt..? He better at College than at the pros. reminds me of a young Jimmy Johnson and was an assistant At Miami when they were really good and beating alot of ranked teams home & away. Wait so you want to hire Schiano because he was the D coordinator at Miami for 18 months during a time the defense had players like Ed Reed, Dan Morgan, and Jonathan Vilma (none of which he recruited). Heck my little brother could’ve had great defensive coaching numbers with those players. Why don’t you instead focus on his 68-67 coaching record at Rutgers, or his 11-21 record in the NFL. The guy is a below .500 coach. And you want to hire him because he happened to be at Miami at the same time as a bunch of NFL Pro-Bowlers 15 years ago?
If he can recruit which he can, and Gerald McCoy even said he taught him more in one training camp more than Stoops & Co. taught him in 4 yrs(one as a redshirt) at OU! And if that does not excite you I’m sorry, better find someone Like the ex- vanderbilt coach and give them the keys then…

Man last night hurt! But in retrospect that might have been the best thing to happen to this program.this offseason we have no sugar Bowl victory to ride high on all they have is defeat in their mouth Stoops can not ignore the glaring issues anymore changes will be made. I believe key players who might have entered the draft will come back next year. I belive with OU being the biggest disappointment of the college season. We will be a terror on the field with the renewed focus and changes. BOOMER SOONER!

IT BLOWS my mind that with all these back up QB’s (2nd & 3rd stringers) around the country can come in for their teams and perform…respectively and throw an accurate football. But at OU, our starter cant even throw a decent pass……AND!!! if he even gets one near a recievers hands they cant hang on to it. If Josh and Norvell are going to stay on the staff, it should be as QB & WR coaches and nothing more, no more of the double duty BS. Go out and spend some big $ like Michigan did and get a OC that knows what he’s doing
