OU Basketball Picks Up Late Addition To 2016 Class

Lon Kruger made a late addition to the Sooners’ 2016 recruiting class on Monday after picking up a commitment from 6’3″ point guard Jordan Shepherd (Asheville, NC).

Shepherd was in Norman over the weekend and though he had other visits planned after, evidently he saw/heard enough to commit to OU on the spot. While somewhat of an underrated player, at least in terms of his offer list, Shepherd is quite talented and more than capable of not only finding his teammates but also scoring from the point guard position.

Is this using a roster spot the used to be Manyang’s?
they have a scholly open. 2 if Manyang doesnt return
not exactly the talented Center the team really needs but an insurance policy in case OU doesn’t sign the PG from Norman North next season….in fact, signing this young man may indicate OU won’t get the nations top PG next recruiting cycle…..

I was laughing through the whole video. The kid doesn’t look too bad or anything, but it was hard to tell when they cut off most of the clips before he actually finished the pass or the shot.

That young dude is smooth. He won’t be making some of those passes in college, but still very smooth, nice touch, good passer and LONG. Should fit into Kruger’s offence quite nicely.
The small ball worked well, but im good with getting bigger across the board. A good 3 inch bump from cousins.
My initial thoughts are is that this kid will get playing time this year. He’s the kind of player defenders are going to find difficult to guard: he’s a stop-and-pop player, a la, Michael Jordan. Here’s what I mean: most players today are driving tot he hole or shooting Js. Not this kid: he’ll start to the hole and pull up for jumper. Speaking of jumper, how about his elevation?
Who is he going to take minutes from? Woodard? Strong? McGusty? Odomes? Grandstaff? James?
There are minutes to go around. I believe he’ll make the rotation.
I read somewhere that he has a 38″ vertical.

How did OU get him? How did he not sign with NC or Duke or another ACC school?
Maybe grade issues on him, and he just recently qualified? Just a guess.

If that were the case, North Carolina would be the pick, they have a special program there.
He was not heavily recruited at all. Best offers were Appalachian St or Middle Tennessee St.
Kid looks like a solid player. Has good vision, ball handling skills and can shoot from anywhere on the court. Can’t wait to see him progress under one of the best coaches in college basketball.

I feel that OU has only about a 1 in 4 chance with Young. Heard him and his dad on with James Hale several times. Sounded like Trae likes OU a lot, but his dad wants bigger and better for Trae. Duke, Kansas and Kentucky seem to be the other schools in contention.
Can’t blame him for wanting top prestige schools but I’d hope Kruger’s demeanor would win the day

Got meet the Coach today on a plane ride. Can’t say enough about the humility that he projects. Just a great guy, and after meeting him I’m even more proud that he our Coach at University of Oklahoma!

I’ve said it a million times here, so make it a million and one… I am so proud of Lon Kruger in every way. He is a world class human being and no university has a better representative for their program than Lon. There is ZERO fear of an NCAA violation or of him doing something embarrassing like choking a player (Bob Knight), showing up drunk at a Mizzou frat party (Larry Eustachy), handing players sums of cash in envelopes (Eddie Sutton) or trying to cover up a murder and framing the dead player in the process (Dave Bliss). He is the straightest arrow in sports.
He gets the maximum out of his players and finds many diamonds in the rough. I wish he could load up on a few classes of 4-5 star McDonald’s All American players at every position. If he did, he just might put the best basketball team anyone’s seen on a court because already highly talented players will be coached to fully realize ALL of their potential, and they’ll have the talent to win a national title.
I wouldn’t trade Lon for anyone, and I hope he coaches at OU for many years to come. He is what is right and good about sports.
