Capping in the end of what was an incredible four year career in Norman, Buddy Hield was named the 2016 John R. Wooden Award winner Friday evening.

It is Hield’s second (and well deserved) player of the year honor after winning the 2016 Naismith Award earlier this week.

We all just witnessed history. Is he the best player ever at OU? If not, who is? What a great player and class act. Thank you Buddy:)

    • Oscar says:

When asked what he was going to do with his money, he said, “church first, and then Momma.”

      • OohRah Mama says:

I don’t ever see fame and fortune changing Buddy for the worse. He has a level head, a humble heart and a shining soul to go with his talent and sharp mind.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

But Buddy won the Wooden. Tisdale, Griffin.

    • connie usa says:

Kinda hard to compare him to Wayman. Wayman was the BEST scorer and rebounder at OU. Buddy is great, but Wayman was the greatest.

  • OceanDescender says:

Boomer!! I’m so going to miss watching this guy play for the Crimson and cream; that being said, whoever drafts him may become the NBA team that I follow most (well, excluding the Thunder).

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Congrats Buddy and Congrats to the Sooners on a tremendous season. It ended too soon, but it was a great ride. BOOMER!

    Congrats Buddy!

  • Dick Bump says:

    Great! He deserves it!

  • Sooner Ray says:

Congrats to OUr boy. Team won’t be the same without him.

  • Jpsooner23 says:

Buddy! There will never be another like you my friend. The most complete person to EVER come through this program. Congrats brother!

  • Jpsooner23 says:

Wow, this is actually sad. The lack of posts for this kid. He’s been more to this program than anyone could predict. I wouldn’t trade his career for anyone else’s.

  • rphokc says:

hope he’s able to prove himself in the nba and gets filthy rich as a result

  • JJSoona says:

Coach K was so proud of him. The program is going the right direction, He’s had a signifcant impact on every player. Looking forward to surprising some folks next year.

    • OohRah Mama says:

Coach will continue to be proud of him, and will no doubt love him as one of his boys always. I imagine Lon Kruger will be just a call away, no matter when or where.

  • JJSoona says:

I Wish OKC could trade up for him. Perfect fit for them.

    • connie usa says:

They have NO first round pick in which to trade up with.

      • JJSoona says:

That doesn’t mean they couldn’t make some deals. Its happened before. They’ve got some players to trade with and at least one pick in the second round this year and a first round next year. It CAN be done.

    • Unofficial Longhorn says:

I would actually love to see him on the Spurs.

  • Slim Sooner says:

Proud of Buddy and all the boys. Buddy is something special for sure!

  • JrsySooner says:

Hey screw you AP, he won the award that really matters
    Boomer Sooner Buddy….Boomer Sooner

  • AgedBill says:

Well deserved and it couldn’t have gone to a finer young man and great representative for OU!

  • John Garner says:

Great person, great player, great rep for OU. Lon Kruger may not have been our 1st choice as coach, but he has certainly become our best.

  • ⚡️Electric Sooner⚡️ says:

Can’t wait to watch this kid flourish in the NBA! BOOMER!!

  • Matt S. says:

Congrats Buddy!! You are the type of young man our University can always stand behind and we know you will represent OU well for many years to come. I hope your success opens the eyes of many young men who will want to play for Coach Kruger.

    • hOUligan says:

Well said. Class young man playing for a 1st class coach. Love what Buddy has personally accomplished and what he has done to raise the University and Coach Lon and OU basketball. Thanks, Buddy. Well done.

  • Unofficial Longhorn says:

Longhorn fan here, but I come in peace. Although he is Sooner that nailed us with a Villanova-esque 3 pointer, I have to give it up for this young man. Buddy Hield was the most dominating player in CBB this year, and he absolutely deserves the praise and honor he’s receiving. He’s a true testament to how a player can develop by staying all four years. You can tell he’s easily going to be a 10-12 year NBA guy. With Battier like character, any coach would want him in their locker room. I’m sure as Ho U… I’m sorry, my inner fanhood was showing. Pardon… as OU fans, I know you guys are proud. If nothing else, as a black man, I’m proud to a role model like this coming into his own. Good luck next season you savages!… But not too much.

    • SoonerMagic76 says:

Thanks for both the praise on Buddy and the respectful post!

Never thought I’d see the day but… if a short-whorn… er…sorry….my inner fanhood..a representative of that much despised college in Austin can show up and give props to a deserving young man and tremendous athlete like OUr Buddy Hield, then I can say ‘thanks’ and give said rep an up-vote.

  • Gurry says:

Congrats to Buddy. Give em hell in the NBA, Mr. Buckets!

  • SoonerinLondon says:
