    More like typical Landry

  • Tony B says:

As a Steelers fan I hope and pray that Ben stays healthy. Bad Landry is correct!

  • Big Tiddays says:

Landry should keep his bags packed. Arena league needs QBs.

  • ⚡️Electric Sooner⚡️ says:

Not sure how you rebound from a 4 int game. Pocket awareness has always been his Achilles heel, I would say he’s done!

    • Clay Davis says:

Watching him last night, he made a lot of great throws. One INT bounced off his receiver’s hands and then off the CB’s helmet, with enough hang time for another DB to come in and make a diving interception. Another was because his receiver gave up on the route.

  • AltoidSooner says:

Landry, thanks for that 2010 Big 12 champ game against Nebraska. This NFL thing is not your gig though.

  • Cole G. Dixon says:

Landry just doesn’t know how to NOT stare down a wide receiver. He did with Broyles every single time.

  • SoonerFan92 says:

I watched Landry last night. One of the interceptions was an unlucky bounce. One got knocked out of his hands, and two were blamed on the WR for not coming back on the ball as hard as he was supposed to.

Nice showing for the Linebackers! Pulling for Dom and I hope Striker has a good game Saturday

  • Wild Will says:

I mean really, Landry was actually 16-20, which is amazing! He just completed four to the other team. Still didn’t hit the ground though!!

  • LBS says:

Landry will always be an enigma to me. He would almost will the team to lose winnable games (mizzou 2010 comes to mind)…and then also the guy that would pull a definite loss back from the brink for the win (wvu 2011, osu 2012 etc). Maddeningly inconsistent.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

3-1 in bowl games thought and record holder.

      • ND52 says:

A record holder only due to him being on campus for so long. Barring injury, Mayfield will most likely surpass him when all is said and done.

        • lefty67 says:

He’ll have to average over 5,000 yards a year to catch Landry, & with the ground game he’s got (the caliber of which LJ never had) to take the heat off, that ain’t happening.

          • ND52 says:

            @lefty67:disqus

Mayfield will have the better overall record and better career. Jones will own the yardage record as well as other meaningless stats but that’s about it. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/9a991f79c1c9e4016cdcc192a740650e110b6415c041ed361a6aae89bcd6cd4f.png

& with the ground game he’s got (the caliber of which LJ never had) to take the heat off,…

OU’s O-line last year was awful at times.

Landry Jones is the Emmitt Smith of OU football.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

…Smith is in the hall of fame. LOL.

          • ND52 says:

My point @dhuntersanchez:disqus is that having great stats does not make you the greatest. ES is not even one of the top 5 backs in history just as LJ is not a top 5 OU QB.

Maybe not even one of the top 5 QBs of the Stoops Era.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I get the point. However, when you talk about top 5 Qbs at OU, it depends on what you are looking for in your QB. If you want a wishbone QB, does Bradford make the top 5? If you want a traditional passer, surely Jones is top 5 in my view (Bradford, White, Heupel, Mayfield, Jones).

          • ND52 says:

I’ll take Jones—-but only if I can have him in a more traditional offense where he doesn’t have to pass the ball more than 30x a game at most. I absolutely would not want him playing point guard in an air raid system @dhuntersanchez:disqus

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

            Fair enough.

          • lefty67 says:

People tend to have better records & careers when they have better players around them like BM does. Thanks to our backfield, you’re never going to see Mayfield have to throw 71 times in order to pull a game out of OU’s arse the way LJ had to in Bedlam ’12 ( OU barely had 100 yards on the ground that game & that’s counting the 25 Millard & Clay had in OT ) & as for sacks allowed stat, BM would’ve mitigated that a TON had he just hit his checkdown instead of trying to hit something downfield that just wasn’t there. He himself has admitted more than a few times that this is something he needs to get a lot better at. Perine & Mixon aren’t sitting out there in the flats just for looks.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Yes sir. Swing pass with Mixon or Perine one on one, forgetaboutit.

          • ND52 says:

OU’s O-line was absolutely putrid during the early part of last season @lefty67:disqus and LJ would’ve probably been knocked-out had he played behind it. Without BM back there, OU would’ve absolutely repeated 2014’s record.

He’s undoubtedly the most valuable player OU’s had since AD.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I’ll take BM over Jones too. Not comparing. Love BM, just please dump some passes off…For the record, I am kind of nervous about the OL for game 1.

          • ND52 says:

Could not agree more about the O-Line @dhuntersanchez:disqus. If the O-line doesn’t come through early then it’s gonna get ugly.

      • LBS says:

True, but he won against UCONN, Stanford w/o Andrew Luck, and Iowa. Bradford healthy wouldve destroyed records. He already led the country in TDs in both of his seasons. Landry always seemed to have potential and Heupel just couldnt get it out of him, bell, or Tk. It cant be coincidence that once heupel split duties OC/QB they both suffered

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

You can only beat who they put in front of you. Without Luck? So? I suppose you will not credit Mayfield for beating Baylor, TCU and Ok St without their best Qbs as well? A number of posters have said those Landry years represented a downturn in overall talent on the roster, if that’s true, Jones should get MORE credit for winning two Big 12 titles in his four years! TK and BB couldn’t throw a pea in the ocean!

          • LBS says:

Maybe i wasnt clear in my original post, im not saying Landry was bad…im saying he was always the cause of a loss and the hero of the win. It was maddening. Hed carry the team on his back one game and throw it away the next. And he has always had a stare down WR problem. But he did have the luxury lf Ryan broyles and kenny stills

    • ND52 says:

Same goes for Trevor Knight and both had the same OC during their time in Norman.

      Coincidence? I think not……

  • Ed Cotter says:

Rip had some nice blocks last night. He also did drop a pass about two plays after he caught his first one.

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

There was a lot of blame to go around on those INTs, not just Landry.

  • OUgrad82 says:

looks like Geneo had a nice night!

  • SoonerMagic76 says:

Good for Dom getting some PT – wasn’t sure how much he would get

    • Jordan Esco says:

Has looked pretty good so far from what I can gather. Seen multiple people say he has better than decent odds to make the actual roster.

    • Defend Colfax says:

I’m excited about that as well, I really didn’t know what to expect. A lot of fight in that dog. Go represent okie boys.

  • OceanDescender says:

Saw that Eagles-Steelers preseason game yesterday and I think “#badlandry” is getting hung out to dry here without context. The QB will always share blame for interceptions but there are other positions, particularly last night, that contribute to those bad plays as well. I still believe in the most unpopular OU quarterback of the Stoops era not named Bomar.

    • SoonerMagic76 says:

He might be more unpopular than Bomar – most people just forget about him

    • Dick Bump says:

Hell of a drop off when he left.

    • JB says:

I think Landry’s biggest problem has always been a lack of mental toughness and belief/confidence in himself. He has all the skills and can make nearly every throw. But he doesn’t expect great things of himself and he can’t carry a team on his shoulders. If things start going badly for him, it just mushrooms into a larger disaster.

If you could clone Baker’s mindset and infuse it in Landry’s head, Landry could be an NFL starter right now.

      • OceanDescender says:

Perhaps but I do recall nights where Oklahoma’s defense had absolutely collapsed and Jones DID put the team on his shoulders. It’s tough to make that kind of a judgement call on his willpower and fortitude from a fan’s perspective; it’s just too much of an assumption IMO.

        • JB says:

Not really. A person’s attitude is reflected in how he carries himself and how he plays on the field. It also helps when you know people who were on the sidelines during those years. That was always the knock on him…he wasnt a strong, vocal leader. He didn’t possess that strong personality that Baker Mayfield has.

As for games where he carried the team on his shoulders, I can think of 2 in his time at OU. I can think of at least 7 where the opposite happened.

          • OceanDescender says:

I must have missed when his teammates questioned his mental toughness, not to say that it never happened or anything. I do recall him being more of a lead by example kind of guy. All I’m pushing is that I’m of the opinion that he was a great player at OU and a is a great leader in his own way much different from Baker’s very entertaining style. And boy could he rack up the points against Texas.

      • BoomerShauner says:

If I recall correctly, didn’t Landry carry the team against WV the night that Tavon Austin went crazy? There was also another game that season that Landry did absolutely everything he had to to get the win. Maybe that year’s Bedlam. My memory is failing me. Someone help me out. Was it 2012?

  • Chris White says:

Jordan, just update Kenny Stills’ stats for the night with this

  • BoomerShauner says:

Not sure if anyone saw, or has mentioned this. But after Kenny Stills scored against the Cowboys he threw the “horns down”. Keep reppin’ those Sooners, big man.

  • Walter Sobcek says:

Bradford v Jones was bit lopsided.

  • Cush Creekmont says:

What’s happening with Charles Tapper? Saw the NICE double horn-down by Kenny Stills against Dallas, but no Tapper on D.

  • Cush Creekmont says:

Update on Stills was just a little off – it was a DOUBLE horns down as a TD celebration – WAY to represent Kenny, outstanding!

Dedicated fellow. I hope the Krauts appreciate you.

I have to run by my place so I’ll be ducking out in a couple of minutes – didn’t expect much here without an OP.

Keep’em alive if you can. I still hope for one last Practice Notes (beyond poor Rodney).

          Back in the evening.

FWIW, when I was watching the Bills-Giants game, the announcers were heaping a lot of praise on Casey Walker. He didn’t get stats, but he affected the game.

  • Indy_sooner says:

Honorable mention …Kendall Thompson with 1TD

  • Ed Cotter says:

Oh man, what a bummer for Trey. Fat Daddy just having some bad luck. Wishing him a full and speedy recovery.

  • Super Keith says:

    Hey all,

Was at the Bronco game last night and wanted to pass along a few notes:

Frank Shannon – I have no idea why no stats were recorded for Frank, because he was in on at least two tackles that I saw (and probably more). More importantly, he looked really good. He’s obviously got a big task in front of him to make the roster, but he didn’t hurt himself any last night.

Corey Nelson – Corey, for a second year, is the Bronco’s special teams captain. He’s also in a battle with Todd Davis for a starting job. There’s no danger of Corey not making the cut, he’s just a very good player. Unfortunately, after making a tackle on the goal line, he went out with a wrist injury. Don’t think it’s serious though.

Donald Stephenson – Again, no danger of Stephenson getting cut. He looked really, really good in the only real drive he was in on (the first drive of the game). It’s just about him staying healthy through pre season and gelling with a couple of other new O-linemen (one of which is O-State’s Russel Okung).

Durron Neal – As mentioned in the update, Neal scored a 4th quarter TD. Realistically, he should have had two. In the third quarter, Paxton Lynch threw a fade into the endzone, but was just overthrown. There was definitely interference (by the 49er DB on Neal), but it didn’t get called (it’s possible that they viewed the pass as too far to catch). Watching Neal in pre game warm-ups, he was very focused (not talking to anyone, just working). He stood by his position coach the entire game and when his number got called, he made a great case for himself. What made me proud was his blocking on some decent run gains. Kind of a calling card for Sooner WR’s in the league. Like Shannon, Neal has an uphill climb to make the team, but his play last night (along with some solid special teams work in the second half) helps. Honestly, I didn’t see him making the squad early in camp (there are just so many WRs in camp this year), however, he’s done nothing by make a strong case. At this point, I’m not ready to say he’ll make the final cut, but I think at the very least, he’s looking like a solid practice squad player (and the Broncos almost always bring practice squad guys up the following year or two).

    As for the 49ers:

Blake Bell – Blake got in on only one play that I saw. It was a quick sideline route. The QB fumbled the snap and that threw the timing off, so by the time the ball got to Blake we was more concerned with going out of bounds than catching the ball and had a drop. He didn’t play another down. Not sure where he stands with the 49ers, but he’s not going to replace Celek, but may make the squad as a competent back up (like last year).

  • Chris White says:

The Giants had an awful game but this is an awesome picture! I love seeing hung horns all over the league

  • CKill1 says:

Anyone know the extent of Trey’s injury?

  • Defend Colfax says:

Kendal Thompson is kinda a who knew? He made it known he wanted to be a QB at both his stops but it’s good to see him be able to show his talents. I love seeing the okie boys shine. Very good football is played in this state.

  • Daryl says:

I can’t believe that Travis Lewis is not on a roster somewhere. He nearly won the starting job at Detroit last year. Hope he finds a roster.
