Updates | Defensive Line Official Visitors
– Super K

This weekend, the Sooners will be hosting a couple of defensive linemen.

***2020 JUCO DT, Perrion Winfrey may be the most highly coveted JUCO defensive linemen in the country. He’s being heavily pursued by OU, Texas, Alabama, LSU and a number of others.

In May, Winfrey let me know that he will take an official visit to Oklahoma this upcoming weekend (June 7th-9th).

With Oklahoma losing guys like Tatum, Lott and Green along with the loss of key guys next year due to graduation, Winfrey would be a really nice addition to the 2020 class.

***We’ve already mentioned that 2020 4-star DT, Tyler Baron (Knoxville, TN) is expected to be in for an official visit, as well.

As I also mentioned, the Sooners like where they are in this one. I, however, have my reservations due to Baron’s ties to Tennessee through his father who is the Football High School Relations Director for the University of Tennessee.

***Also, it’s worth noting that I believe with those two official visits, Oklahoma will only have one more official visit left for the summer. I’m sure most of you are aware of the fact that there are limits to the number of official visits each university is permitted each cycle. The new cycle will begin around the start of the season.

The mother of 2020 DL, Blayne Toll (Haven, AR) did mention that they plan on taking their OU official visit during the month of June, as well. But they were coordinating things for the June visit in early May. So, I’m not sure if that number has already been counted.

I believe Riley likes to hold on to at least one official visit over the summer to use on a possible grad transfer just in case someone of interest becomes available.

Lathan Ransom | Update
– Super K

2020 DB, Lathan Ransom released his top five and the Sooners made the cut…

I can tell you that as of right now, I think the Sooners are sitting towards the back on that list.

Ransom still has a few official visits left (Texas, Notre Dame and Ohio State).

If OU wants to push here, I think they can. Ransom talked to me about his relationship with head coaches at Ohio State and LSU. So, if Riley wants to really get involved here, I think he can turn it and possibly get him back on campus.

Just not sure that will happen. I suppose it depends on how things go with Washington and Burns.

Jalin Conyers Top Three | Discussion
– Super K

2020 ATH/TE, Jalin Conyers released his top three and there was a pretty significant omission from his list and OU was not that omission…

As we mentioned before Conyers took his official visits, Conyers has noted to us that distance could play a factor. We’d heard that Texas Tech was the biggest threat to Oklahoma. With Texas Tech out, it looks pretty promising for OU as the other two schools in his top three certainly are at a proximity disadvantage.

Perrion Winfrey | Quick Update + Insider Note
– Super K

As I mentioned, Sooners will be hosting 2020 JUCO DT, Perrion Winfrey this upcoming weekend for an official visit.

I had a bit of an off the record chat with Perrion about what to expect.

On the record he a) reconfirmed that he will be taking his official to OU and is arriving Friday and b) that, interestingly, he has no other official visits set up.

That leads me to what he said off the record…

Quick Hitters | Groce, Watts, & Conyers
– Charlie S

*** 2020 Linebacker Rodney Groce Jr out of Pleasant Grove, AL, let me know he is planning on visiting Norman on June 15. If you recall, Groce was offered back in early May and he mentioned he was very excited to receive an OU offer and he included them in his Top Eight shortly thereafter.

I will check in with him next week to confirm the visit will take place as planned.

*** 2020 Sooners defensive back commit Ryan Watts will be visiting Michigan this weekend. I caught up with Watts who let me know this trip had been planned for a while and it is ‘nothing serious’ in his words.

I asked Watts when he may get back up to Norman and if the BBQ was a possibility and he said ‘Hopefully I will be in town for that, but in July my family and I are going to Trinidad & Tobago for two weeks to see the rest of my family’.

Not a bad place to have family. Beautiful Islands.

*** As you know Sooners 2020 TE Target Jalin Conyers dropped his Top Three on Twitter.

Super K was in touch with Conyers and Jalin let him know that he is looking to make his announcement ‘probably in July’.

It was no shock that the Sooners made the cut, but it was a little revealing that Texas Tech did not make the cut as we felt they were the biggest regional competition for his signature.

Have to feel good about where OU stands in this one and with him planning on announcing his choice in July, it looks like the Sooners are in a position to build on what could be a very good summer on the recruiting trail.

New Weekend Visitor
– Super K

2020 LB, Brynden Walker (Bishop McGuinness) tells us he will visit Oklahoma this weekend.

As you know, Walker is currently committed to Oklahoma State but he picked up a Sooners offer this spring.

This will be another one to watch. Walker is a special athlete with an athletic pedigree. He’s been to OU on multiple occasions. So, this won’t be his first visit.

Regarding Major Burns & OU DB Recruiting
– Super K

A few of things I’ll note here…

1) I’m sure most of you suspected but he was one of the pair of eyes. He committed at the Spring Game.

2) I mentioned this morning in my post on Burns (Chech the Donor Board) that what’s working against OU now is the fact that Roy Manning was a linebacker who coached has primarily coached linebackers.

This isn’t just an issue with Burns. Not surprisingly, schools are using this against OU in a big way. Despite that narrative, OU has done a great job so far…landing Manning and Watts.

Burns committing to LSU should take the spot offered to Dontae Manning. But still, this narrative is going to persist.

At least two things can help with this…

a) the defense and in particular the corners play well this fall

b) Manning gets moved to OLBs but that won’t happen (assuming it does) until after the season

3) In addition to holding on to Watts and Manning, a few key targets moving forward are…

***Bryson Washington – I’ve spoken to him and believe OU holds a lead here but he will visit Texas this month.

***Jacobe Covington – OU still in it

***Ramon Henderson – out of Cali who will likely visit OU later this summer. He’s originally from Oklahoma

***Lathan Ransom – Ransom told me earlier this week that OU has fallen a bit behind…one thing that can help here is Lincoln Riley getting into this recruitment

***Kitan Crawford – he is set to release a top three so we will see if OU makes the cut

Landing Washington would be big because it tightens the numbers and keeps leverage in OU’s favor with Watts and Manning. It’s a lot harder to take visits or decommit when you know you’re spot won’t be there if you want to come back.
