Open Post | Weekend, June 2nd – 4th – UPDATED: 8:40 AM Friday

Leon O’Neal: 2018 DB, Leon O’Neal (Houston, TX) released his list of top schools yesterday and, as expected, the Sooners made the cut. Also included in his top seven are TAMU, Clemson, Georgia, Texas, Nebraska, and LSU.

O’Neal visited Oklahoma back in the winter for the Sooners first jr day and had a good visit. However, based on conversations I’ve had with folks around O’Neal the team to beat in this one is TAMU. I have also been told O’Neal could announce as early as July.

While I expect it to go TAMU’s way at this point O’Neal remains a target to watch for a few reasons: 1) he is close to Sooners DB commit, Starrland Baldwin 2) the season tends to be where teams like OU shine and should TAMU have a shaky season things could change very quickly 3) related to point two, I think OU is in that group of top 3-4 schools that are within striking distance so should the Sooners have a good season and O’Neal makes it up for an official, things could change quickly.

Having said all that, the Sooners seem to be putting themselves in a stronger and stronger position for a couple DBs out in California who are expected to visit later this summer. So, it remains to be seen whether OU will have open spots at the defensive backs position for much longer. – (Super K)

Weekend Visitor: We can confirm that the Sooners will host an instant impact defensive visitor this weekend. However, we’ve been asked not to release the name.

We should be able to post more information regarding the prospect after his visit is complete. – (Brandon)

Trevon Johnson: Giddings (TX) wide receiver Treveon Johnson was committed to Texas Tech for some time. As a matter of fact, Johnson committed to the Red Raiders back in August of 2016. The star 2018 wide receiver visited Oklahoma back in January, ten days after being offered, for the Sooners Junior Day. Since then Johnson and Sooners outside wide receiver coach, Dennis Simmons, have created quit the bond. Johnson tells TFB he is set to make a return visit to OU on June 7th.

Johnson also let me know that he is visiting LSU this weekend. Johnson didn’t not confirm a commitment date but one can expect him to be deciding pretty soon. From all the information we have gathered, the Sooners sit in a really good position here. It’ll be interesting to see where things stand after this trip to LSU. – (Brandon)

More on Treveon Johnson: Just wanted to note that I did ask Johnson if the Sooners should be on Boom alert when he makes his return visit next week. His response?

“Of course”.

So it does appear that Johnson is at least considering pulling the trigger on this upcoming visit. But, as Brandon mentioned, we should know better after this upcoming trip to Baton Rouge. – (Super K)

Jaqualyn Crawford: The star Rockdale (TX) receiver that visited OU a few weeks back reached out to TFB yesterday to inform us that he is planning to make a return trip to Norman on July 29th. That was the date that he had a originally told us he would like to visit, but now the visit seems to be set for Crawford.

Crawford had previously told us that he plans to announce a decision sometime in August. Things may have changed…for the better. Crawford says he is now contemplating committing earlier than August.

The Sooners sit in great spot for the explosive athlete. Obviously things can change but as of right now I feel very very good about where OU stands here. – (Brandon)

More on Crawford: Just to add a bit to what Brandon mentioned, Crawford and Treveon Johnson are good friends and have known each other for a while. So, I certainly think that one will help with the other. – (Super K)

Turning to Asamoah | Linebacker Recruiting: Last month the Sooners missed out on one of their 2018 LB targets, Alston Orji (Rockwall, TX). I’ve got a bit of bad news, it does appear that the Sooners will also miss out on a linebacker target, Ayodele Adeoye (St. Louis, MO). I had recently been told that Adeoye may make a return trip to Norman but in speaking to him earlier this week, that sounds less and less likely.

However, the good news is the Sooners still have an excellent target who is very much interested in Oklahoma in Ohio linebacker, Brian Asamoah (Columbus, OH). Yesterday Asamoah tweeted out…

Asamoah confirmed that he is scheduled to visit OU in late July for the BBQ. In previous conversations I’ve had with Asamoah he has said that if things feel right he could pull the trigger.

Asamoah holds offers from quite a few of the top programs in his region including Penn State, Notre Dame, Michigan and Michigan State so there is certainly plenty of competition but a person doesn’t fly down to Oklahoma on his own dime if he is interested. In speaking to Asamoah it was clear right when OU offered that he was intent on making it down to OU for a visit. – (Super K)

2018 DE Miles Emery has informed TFB that he may announce a decision next week. He also added that, if it’s not next week, it’ll be soon. – (Super K)
