Open Post | Weekend, December 9th – 11th (UPDATED Sun., 2:40 pm)

Weekend Visitors: So far we have word on a few visitors that the Sooners will host this weekend. If we receive any additional names we will pass them along.

Marcelius Sutton: JUCO ATH and Sooner commit out of Lackawanna CC is expected to be in town.

Mathew Leo: A couple weeks back (Nov. 30th) the Sooners offered JUCO DL, Matthew Leo (Arizona Western College). I exchanged a few messages with a staff member at Arizona Western who let me know that Leo will take an official visit to OU this weekend.

Jaylon Johnson: As we mentioned yesterday, 2017 CB Jaylon Johnson (Fresno, CA) will take an official visit this weekend as well.

Jerry Drake: Last week the Sooners hosted 2017 OT, Jerry Drake (Palm Beach Gardens, FL). I am hearing that the visit couldn’t have gone better and there is a sense around the program that the Sooners are a real player in this one.

A little note I stumbled on that could really help the Sooners is that Drake and current OLB commit, K’Jakyre Daley are friends. I asked Drake if Daley is recruiting him to OU and he said, “I’m being recruited by the coaches but he’s my friend so he’ll recommend it”.

Drake says he has not decided on which, if any, other official visits he will take and doesn’t yet have a commitment date set. – (Super K)

Joshua Rogers: The Sooners also hosted 2017 DT, Joshua Rogers (Houston, TX) last weekend. I haven’t had a chance to get Rogers on the phone yet. But I have spoken to a source familiar with Rogers recruitment and was told that Rogers likes OU but if TAMU were to push hard for him that would be his likely landing spot. Hope to get something from Rogers or a staff member at his school to see if there is any word on a commitment timeline. – (Super K)

Addison Gumbs: As you all know by now, Addison Gumbs had in-home visits with Oklahoma, TAMU and UCLA this week.

There have been reports that Gumbs may be quietly favoring TAMU or even possibly UCLA and may even take a visit to one of those schools this weekend. The word around Oklahoma’s program is that they feel good about where things stand with Gumbs. Brandon has also spoken to Gumbs throughout the week and he has assured him that he is solid to OU and doesn’t intend to take a visit this weekend. When Brandon asked about a possible visit happening, Addison said, “I’m still not visiting”.

If Gumbs does visit TAMU this weekend, it certainly won’t be the first time a recruit has tried to take a visit and keep it a secret. I know the narrative on the Oklahoma side of this is that he’s solid and that may very well be true but it when a player is expected to enroll in a month but is still doing in-home visits it does raise some questions. I should note that Gumbs father is a UCLA graduate so that may have played a factor in them doing the in-home visit.

I plan on checking with a source on the TAMU side of this later today or tomorrow to find out if Gumbs does indeed take a trip to College Station this weekend. As of now, sources around the OU program feel good but we’ll keep an eye on it. – (Super K)

Reese Leitao: Earlier this week the Sooners offered 2017 TE/DE, Reese Leitao (Jenks, OK). Leitao tells us that the offer was made as a defensive end. The offer to Leitao made the second in-state defensive line offer this week as the Sooners also offered 2017 DL, Tyreece Lott (Adrmore, OK).

Jeffrey Okudah: The Sooners are one of three teams that Jeffrey Okudah is accepting an in-home visit from. Okudah tells me the Sooners will do an in-home visit with him on Sunday.

This one seems to be all Ohio State but the Sooners are going to do their best Timmy T impression and give it “one more try”…or in this case, one last try. – (Super K)

Marquise Brown: I spoke to a source this morning about the in-home visit with Brown and I was told that OU feels like they are in a really good spot with the star JUCO receiver. I was also told that having Mayfield and the Sooners offensive line back is playing a huge role in Brown’s decision.

We will know Oklahoma’s fit in a few days but it’s looking good for Oklahoma. – (Brandon)

UPDATED (Fri., 8:58 am): Just got word from someone on the TAMU side that whatever hopes they had of Addison Gumbs taking a visit to College Station this weekend have been dashed. Looks like the Sooners can breathe easy.

UPDATED (Sun., 2:40 pm): 2017 CB, Noah Daniels is expected to announce his decision today at 4 pm. Folks on the TCU side of this tell me they feel pretty good about this one. Daniels visited the Sooners last weekend but visited TCU this past weekend. Daniels hasn’t given us a tip either way.

Also, should note that a source close to Gumbs tells me the Sooners aren’t out of the woods just yet. Source said we should have a better idea of where things stand tomorrow. – (Super K)
