Open Post | Weekend, Dec. 11th – 13th (UPDATE Sun., 11:30 am)

Jack Jones: Last night 2016 star WR, Jack Jones (Long Beach, CA) tweeted out that he will not visiting Oklahoma this weekend. Prior to that he was indeed expected to visit. As I mentioned earlier in the week Jones was an extreme long shot. Most believe that if leaves California he will head to Texas A&M.

Which leads me to…

Velus Jones: Wide receiver, Velus Jones (Saraland, AL) is about the same size as Jack Jones and we’ve seen this current staff look to bring in different size wide receivers. In speaking to Jones last night I continue to feel very very good about where OU stands with him. My suspicion is the staff knows it as well and may have cooled their pursuit of Jack Jones. – (Super K)

Tyrie Cleveland: A big fast, wide receiver that OU is pursuing is Tyrie Cleveland (Houston, TX). Cleveland committed to Houston last night. But in talking to folks with knowledge of the situation, I’ve been told that this one isn’t necessarily over. The Sooners continue to recruit Cleveland and Cleveland continues to communicate with the Sooners. – (Brandon)

Parrish Cobb: Coach Kerry Cooks stopped by to see Oklahoma DB commit, Parrish Cobb yesterday:

I spoke to some folks around Waco who confirmed something to me that I’ve long believed, OU got a steal in Parrish Cobb. They say that Cobb is the best DB in the area, hands down. – (Super K)

Jon-Michael Terry Visiting: An additional visitor that is expected to be on campus this weekend is OU commit, Jon Michael Terry. – (Brandon)

Andraez Williams: Wanted to also note that, as we have reported, LSU CB commit, Andraez Williams was expected to visit this weekend. However, we are told he has a conflict and will not be able to make it. He has rescheduled the visit for January after the dead period. – (Brandon)

– (UPDATE Fri., 4:34 pm) Cedarian Lamb: My apologies, I forgot to add a few notes about OU’s most recent commitment. Last night OU received a commitment from star 2017 WR, Cedarian Lamb (Richmond, TX). I can tell you that I have seen Lamb in person and OU got an absolute potential stud. Something I always note in wide receivers is their ability, when covered, to turn, find and fight for the ball…and ultimately come down with. I was able to see Lamb do this in a camp setting when quarterbacks had thrown the ball very poorly. Folks in the Houston area will tell you that while there are some higher rated wide receivers down this way in the 2017 class, Lamb may be the prize of them all.

I asked Cedarian how it felt to be committed to the Sooners and he said, “Honestly, the best feeling in the world”. There is so much he seems to like about OU and scheme is certainly one, “The ability to spread the ball and get their receivers in open field…I love he offense…and the coaching staff”. He talked about how the updated coaching staff is “really making a difference…especially with coach Stoop being the great leader that he is”.

Sooners got a good one. Generally, there are some players in each class that I like…some that I think OU should’ve passed on. In the 2017 class, I can honestly say that there isn’t one commit I’m not a fan of (I don’t evaluate quarterbacks so I’m not offering any opinion on the 2017 QB commitment one way or another). – (Super K)

– UPDATE (Sun., 8:56 am): We are well aware of the situation with Sooners CB Jordan Thomas and were so last night as well. However, we’re also of the opinion it’s a non-issue. Hence why we’re not making a big deal of it. Which is not to be critical of others, we all hold ourselves to different standards. Because we do what we do here at TFB and the way we’ve chosen to do it, we have the ability to choose what we cover. Others simply do not have that same luxury.

So, in short, we’re not going to make a big deal out of something that isn’t. At this time there is no reason to believe this incident will affect his ability for the bowl game. Obviously if that changes, we’ll let you know.
