Open Post | Weekend, April 21st – 23rd

Not a ton of recruiting news this week…

More on Mario Goodrich: Earlier this week the Sooners offered 2018 DB, Mario Goodrich (Lee’s Summit, MO). Goodrich is a fantastic defensive back target and really fits what Oklahoma likes to do and what they look for in a DB prospect – quick twitch out of his break and a great feel for the game and the ball.

I was able to catch up with Goodrich after his offer. Goodrich was apparently very close to committing to Nebraska last weekend but he’s decided to slow things down, “I’m going to wait it out. I think it will be the best decision”.

That bodes well for OU. Goodrich said he will visit Oklahoma but has not yet set a date. He says he plans on visiting this summer but will have to work around his AAU schedule.

Goodrich sent me a basketball video of him windmill dunking. At 6’1 that’s pretty dang impressive. – (Super K)

Another In-State DB Emerging?: Yesterday, Tulsa offered OK preps DB/WR, Issac Beverly (Del City, OK). I’ve had my eye on Beverly for a bit. At nearly 6’2 and with his ability to play the ball in the air, he looks like a guy who should garner some Big 12 attention. I wouldn’t be surprised to see OU stop by and see him this spring.

He has so far been very much under the radar. I spoke with him yesterday and he said Tulsa was his first FBS offer and really one of the only FBS schools he’s heard from. Tulsa offered him as a wide receiver (you can see why on film). I think a lot of schools will look at him as a DB just because DBs like him are harder to find. If he’s as good in person as he is on film, I suspect his offer will list will expand.

His film is worth a look…

More on Upcoming Commit: Yesterday I mentioned the Sooners are expecting some good news from a recruit on the defensive side of the ball in the near future.

I was able to confirm that the recruit is ready to make his announcement but it sounds like they might be doing some kind of a video announcement so it may take a week or two. – (Super K)

Marcus Stripling: The Sooners will host standout 2019 defensive end, Marcus Stripling (Houston, TX) this weekend.

Stripling already holds offers from Oklahoma, Texas, TCU, TAMU and others. Stripling says it’s still early in his process so at this point he’s just visiting the regional schools to get acquainted with everyone.

Now that the Sooners have moved to a 4 man front, a guy like Stripling with his ability to come off the ball and hold the POA would make a nice 5 technique in the Sooners defense. But at already 6’3 250 lbs, it’s tough to tell whether he may outgrow that spot. Either way he has a nice frame to be a multi front guy. I love the way he uses his hands for such a young guy. It’s obvious he’s had some good coaching. If there is one initial thing of note that he could work on is just overall hip flexibility and COD. But this is a good young prospect. – (Super K)

Tre Turner: The Sooners made the top ten for 2018 WR, Tre Turner (Greensboro, NC). As you all know, Lincoln Riley has some ties to the state of North Carolina through his previous position at East Carolina. I haven’t spoken to Tre yet but Lincoln Riley + OU’s offense usually = at least a visit…
