– Greg Rogers: Last weekend the Sooners hosted defensive tackle, Greg Rogers (Las Vegas, NV). Unfortunately we have not been able to reach Greg over the phone. I did exchange a few messages with Rogers who said, “everything was just a great overall trip…was treated well too”. In talking to sources close to the program we are told that the Sooners have been given the impression that after the visit they are in a good spot with Rogers.
Prior to the visit Rogers had mentioned to us in previous conversations that USC was a school he really liked. In fact, K tells me the first time he spoke to Rogers it seemed USC was the offer he was waiting for. However, the current instability at USC could be helping the Sooners with multiple targets, including Rogers. – (Brandon)
– JK Dobbins: Texas native and 2017 Ohio State commit, JK Dobbins is one of the most talented running backs in the country. For quite some time last spring it seemed like he would ending up being a Sooner. Once he committed to Ohio State and Sermon committed to Oklahoma, it looked like things were over.
However, in speaking to Dobbins he tells me that he and the Sooner staff are still in communication. While this is speculation on my part, it should be noted that the second injury to Rodney Anderson may be playing a role here. The Sooners could very well lose their top two running backs after this season if Perine and Mixon decide to declare. And with Anderson’s health in question, the Sooners may very well need to take another back. Again, that is speculation on my part.
The interesting thing is Dobbins tells me that he will attend the OU vs. Texas game this year as a guest of the Sooners.
While Oklahoma may have lost out on their playoff chances, what they do from here on out in the Big 12 could still have a major impact on this recruiting class. – (Brandon)
– Kenneth Murray: If anyone was wondering how last weekend’s game may have affected OU LB commit, Kenneth Murray, wonder no more. Murray said last weekend was, “the best weekend of my life”.
I asked Murray who is host was and he said he forgot. Doesn’t sound good, right? Wrong. I’ll let Murray explain, “I was hosted by a couple of linebackers…I had some much fun with the commits and stuff though, I forgot *laughs*” Murray added, “definitely we (SS17) are family”.
Murray is hopeful he will make a return trip to Norman soon, “I was going to try to get to the Texas game but I think I may have a game that day which sucks but I will visit again most likely”.
As you all know, Murray is a key recruit, in part, because he is an early enrollee. It sounds like all is well between Murray and Oklahoma. – (Brandon)
– Coaches On the Road: The Sooner staff is out seeing players this weekend. Some of those players are…
K’Lavon Chaisson – Was told coach Thibodeaux stopped by to see the talented OLB/DE target yesterday. I suspect they are trying to make sure Chaisson gets back up to Oklahoma for a return visit.
Darrell Simpson – Sooners also going by to see 2018 OT, Darrell Simpson (Justin, TX). Simpson is very high on the Sooners and would make a heck of a grab to add to their commitment from Brey Walker.
Tyrese Robinson – Sooner commit.
Chuck Filiaga – Oklahoma is in a great spot with Adrian Ealy who we suspect may pull the trigger next month. But that isn’t stopping them from continuing to recruit. Filiaga has moved from California to Texas and is looking at programs like Texas, TCU and OU among others. Filiaga hasn’t made a return trip to Norman but tells us he plans on it. A visit from the OU coaches could be just what they need to ensure that visit happens.
Reece Moore – Offensive coordinator, Lincoln Riley stopped by Seminole, TX yesterday to see 2018 TE/OL, Reece Moore. Moore recently visited OU and said the visit was, “awesome…I loved the atmosphere and coach Riley is a great guy!” Moore said he has also been in regular contact with coach Bedenbaugh.
Ceedee Lamb – Sooner commit was visited by OU yesterday.
Joshua Moore – We are told Oklahoma will be by to see 2018 WR target, Joshua Moore today. Oklahoma is in a good spot with Moore.
– UPDATE (Fri., 1:01 pm): I am told Sooners LB coach, Tim Kish was in Georgia yesterday to see recent OU visitor, Tyler Taylor. Also, Kish will be at Jacob Phillips game today. – (Brandon)
