– Anthony Hines: Earlier this week, Greg Powers of Scout.com reported that Anthony Hines will visit Penn State this weekend. We had recently been told by Hines’ father that they would be in Norman for the OU vs. Ohio State game. We were able to confirm via a source close to the Hines family that those plans have indeed changed and that Anthony is no longer expected to visit OU this weekend.
We were also told that the Sooners are a bit back in the race now. Texas A&M and Texas are currently the two favorites. It seems Hines is a little concerned about the number of linebackers already committed to Oklahoma.
Having said that, the Sooners do feel good about Phillips and we continue to hear that it will likely come down to a battle between OU and Alabama. Phillips feels very comfortable in Norman but obviously Tuscaloosa is significantly closer for the Phillips family which we are told is going to help Alabama. – (Super K & Brandon)
– K’Lavon Chaisson: I checked in again with Chaisson’s coach and the trip this weekend remains a go. I only confirm it because as of a week or so ago, Chaisson had told a number of people including writers that he was no longer interested in Oklahoma. Clearly whatever issues there were, OU has done a good job of clearing it up. – (Super K)
– Team Note | Attitude: Was asked yesterday in the ‘Town Hall’ about the teams attitude this week of practice leading up to the Ohio State game. Nothing earth shattering here or anything unexpected given the magnitude of this game but was told, “There’s a focus. Everyone is locked in and there’s an emphasis on running to the ball on defense and finishing the plays on both sides of the ball”.
There are definitely some positions on the field where the Buckeyes will have talent advantages. Oklahoma will absolutely need to be fully “locked in” this week to ensure that they are prepared to play without hesitation. Beyond that, effort and attitude can mask a plethora of weaknesses. – (Super K)
– Team Note | Parrish Cobb: Have been told, Cobb is having a great week of practice so far. He and whoever else rotates at the cornerback spot are going to be critical in this game. There is little doubt, Meyer is going to test that side early and often. No word on who the starter will be but based on how well I’ve heard Cobb is doing, I’d be a bit surprised if it wasn’t Cobb.
Having said that, I’m told Dakota is back in the rotation in terms of getting reps. He wasn’t getting many at all last week. He’s still not getting a ton but is getting some. – (Super K)
– Team Note | Kyler Murray: Kyler Murray’s chance to get on the field is still a ways away. But given the number of talented running quarterbacks the Sooners have to face this year, Murray has been a more than sufficient decoy. In fact, one could argue that Murray is more athletic than any quarterback the Sooners will face.
I spoke to a couple sources about Murray just to get a feel for how he’s looked against the first team defense. This is the gist of what I was told…
No surprise but there was a lot of talk about his athleticism. He is truly an elite athlete and one person talked about how on multiple occasions he’s made first team linebackers look silly. In fact source particularly mentioned him freezing guys like Obo and Jordan Evans.
“He drops dimes”…a lot was said about his ability to throw the ball as well. One person actually said he’s every bit as accurate as Mayfield. Another person wasn’t prepared to go that far but said he is accurate. One source said that at times he will fit balls into extremely tight windows. The same source mentioned a specific time when Kyler side armed a ball “effortlessly” and squeezed it into a tight window…”everyone was just kind of looking and wondering how he did that”. Apparently he routinely makes throws that have people saying, “wow”.
One source also noted, “he’s a winner”. Everyone knows how much he won in high school. His college career is limited to what we saw at Texas A&M. But what this particular person was talking about is his ability to win in practice…to compete each snap and win more often than not. – (Super K)
– Team Note | Charles Walker: Walker still isn’t full go at practice. I was told he was mostly taken in yesterday to lift weights. He doesn’t seem to be doing any work in team period, etc. We will continue to check on him throughout the week. HC Stoops mentioned in his presser that they expect him to be ready for the game this weekend. – (Super K)

First…great write up!
1st BOOMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2nd post
Nice Metz…Sooner!
Charles Walker:
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g246/sey115/sey115070/weneedyou_zpsy22sa9lb.gif
Pick up Charles !!!!!!!!!!
LOL. PLS
lol
A preview of what’s to come.
Obvious but would be a HUGE blow to the Sooners defense if Walker can’t go. Can’t not have your best DL on the field for a game of this magnitude.
he will play unless he is in a wheel chair. no way he would want to miss a game like this
he missed the CFP game against clemson with a headache, so i’m not putting it past him.
haha true
He was held out for a concussion… C’mon now.
Thank you, Andrew.
Headache? lol, you might sit out for a toothache, sir.
zing.
Exactly need him for this, he can rest @ TCU if he needs to (they don’t pose the rushing threat tOSU does). Even if they have to just rotate him in and out…gotta have him out there to eat blocks.
I am just glad that there is still a CHANCE that he plays. Will take him at even half strength. BEAST.
Yes, this is not good. I knew immediately that we were doomed when he went down right before Clemson. Even if he doesn’t go, I would keep this a game time decision, IMO
Excellent- thanks for the OP – encouraged re. Cobb’s performance feedback…
“…effort and attitude can mask a plethora of weaknesses.” I love it.
Leave it all on the field, fellas!
Do you think walker plays Saturday even if he doesn’t practice at all this week?
yes. too much talent not to
I read where its a muscle pull. My guess is that he’s probably ok to go but they dont want to aggravate it and rest it as much as possible.
So you think he will play? We’re just holding him out of practice to make sure he’s as healthy as possible for Saturday. Which would make sense if it’s a muscle
I think he will play at 70% then re-injure the pulled muscle n the first quarter and not see the field again. IMHO.
Thank you for your prediction Mr Sunshine.

So what you wrote is the “truth”?
Its speculation pure and simple.

But I used “the scry” technique. First with a crystal ball, then for confirmation, repeated it with tea leaves and then again with smoke and mirrors. It’s scientific not magic…according to Scientology.
That made me chuckle, TSFFKAG.
You might want to take your ball in for a tune up.
That’s where you messed up. You’re supposed to START with the smoke and mirrors…
“Blame it on the Rain”-Milli Vanilli (1989-Forever)
did mv really say that or was it someone else?
We will never know…
Not what we want. Shep did the same if I recall. Hard to rest him, but this is non-conference and we’ll need him down the road. That said I hope recovers and dominates
Gallimore playing significant snaps and playing well is Sooo huge for OU this week. Dude is a stud, and you know he’s hungry to eat some buckeyes. I need Bob to start. Along talent over longevity in the program a little more
Also really good to hear about Cobb this week. We’re going to need him, especially in the big12
Glad it looks like Cobb will get the start. Kyler Murray is electric and I’m glad we have him to practice against. Charles Walker needs to be healthy for this game ( quite obvious ) for us to be successful against their run game.
So did the coaches really iron things out with K’Lavon or is he just playing us like a fiddle since his friends are going to the game? Last thing I want is kids who aren’t really serious about us attending and bringing down the crowd.
I’d wager he just wants to go to a big game with his friends for free. I don’t care though. If he’s too weak to compete for a spot i’d rather he didn’t come, IMO. I think the atmosphere and huge underdog win will speak louder than any naysayers who may be amongst us.
Exactly, I’m sure I’m not alone when I say I don’t really want him there. Should be interesting. Our coaches have been tweeting out ” don’t get left behind” along with some other quotes that are similar and the kids continue to watch SS17 pile up and they’ll miss out.
If they don’t have 5 stars, the OU coaches will not hold a spot for them. The 5 star guys can, and likely will, wait till National Signing Day, and that won’t be a problem for Stoops.
I think K’lavon wasn’t sure if OU had a spot for him.
I’m not buying that.
That last OLB spot will go out to Daley or Chaisson, it’s interesting that their both visting this weekend.
I have 0…nada…none…inside info. But, to me, it kinda feels like he’s cooled on us, but isn’t going to pass up a chance to see one of the biggest non-con matchups for free. Plus all the other perks that come with visits.
BOOMER GOD DAM SOONER!!!!!!!!!! GAYLORD STADIUM WILL BE ROCKING ON SATURDAY NIGHT.
Still dont understand hines. All our starting LB’s right now are juniors or seniors. Shouldnt matter how many we take this year when hes the #1 ILB in the country and we run 2 ILB’s.
If hes truly the #1 ilb in the country, hes like a day 1 rotational player at worst, and would start full time as a sophmore.
If he thinks hes going to get ANY snaps with malik jefferson there, hes nuts.
Malik and Anthony wheeler are there. It really is crazy, but honestly I won’t give a rats if we sign Phillips.
I’m more than fine with Phillips over Hines. Phillips is a total specimen.
Yeah, I’d rather have Phillips too. He’s more of a “total package” than Hines.
I remember Hines ankles broke against Najee Harris at the Opening.
Yeah Draper out performed him at the Opening. If I remember correctly, Phillips won LB MVP at a 5star camp.
Phillips won the LB MVP at the 5 star camp ( Browning & Moses were in attendance) , Draper was on the 1st team all opening Defense.
Im hoping he knows something we dont about phillips lol.
im not buying the excuse. something else going on there. he said he wanted to see how texas looked, i think he liked what he saw and he wants to go there. Good news is Phillips is better imo…bad news, if Bama really wants him it might be hard to get him to pick us over them
Thanks. You saved me some typing. I was about to write all of the above.
Well OU is still recruiting Tyler Taylor and Jordan Anthony. OU has some really nice backup plans if we miss out on Phillips.
i know they r recruiting them but not sure really how serious they are in OU…i have seen OU miss out on too many players to get over excited about certain guys
the only way id buy it is if he went to A&M, their ILB position isnt nearly as stacked.
If phillips wants early PT, that gives us a pretty good advantage. Bama LB’s dont typically play until junior/rs sophmore years.
good point…either way something weird with Hines…for a while he is all OU, rumors that he would commit or was a silent and now OU is behind the pack?
i dont get it either. recruiting is a fickle business lol.
Fickle as a fart in the wind, I always say…. I said that once
His mom wants him to stay in Texas.
Then why visit Penn State? Gross. LOL
For the ride. Texas and A&M both built good relationships with her early on in the process. We lost that battle.
Yea If Momma ain’t happy, nobody is happy. I think I would head to one of the coasts for my free trip, Penn State would be WAY down the list, some bad bad things happened there.
The Sooners “home turf” is from KC to D/FW (north/south) and Little Rock to Albuquerque (east/west)
kinda what i’m thinking , too.
hes not the #1 ILB in the country. his stock has been falling for several months.
Maybe that’s why his confidence at getting enough early playing time is falling as well.
The guy was probably waiting for more contact from Texas.. He was using OU as a ‘fall back plan’ till his ‘dream school’ showed more interest….So , if Hines stays in state and Phillips does likewise, is there another prospect at Lackawanna that might be a D-1 prospect OU could sign ?
Come on sd really!
I know. you were going to say the same thing and I beat you to it….
Tyler Taylor is probably #2 behind Phillips now.
ha remember i have your llama!
That’s funny!!!
You guys crack me up.
I think theres a couple other 4 star high school kids we are in on before we have to go the JUCO route again.
He always loved OU, his mom dont want him going here. His dad likes OU as well, but momma runs his house. She wants her boy to stay local in Texas. That’s the true issue
ok, that sounds about right. Charlie , no doubt, has wooed momma.
Seems like that happens a lot. Thanks for the insight!
It does, ppl overlook momma’s input.
Thanks! That’s not the only house where Momma is boss.
Maybe we can find out what kind of flowers she likes???
one poster said Hines and his dad liked Oklahoma ; HOWEVER his dear old mom likes Texas and aTm and he’s likely to sign with one or the other……
Hines and Chaisson are not coming to OU so let’s move on…
You know OU is recruiting 3 other top 10 ILB’s right now.
They better get 2 of 3 then
Will OU have a wildcat package for Murray in 2017?
For all we know he might be our starting QB in 2017
You think Mayfield leaves early or just that much upside for Murray
No, if Mayfield comes back then Baker is our QB but if not it should be a dog fight between Kendall and Kyler.
Yeah thats how I see it too. Both look capable
If Baker comes back next year, I’ll be a bit torn on how to handle the QB position. We’ll really need to get snaps for both Murray and maybe even an additional QB. Would an early loss @Ohio State change the reps for the backups?
I hate saying this, but I was kind of hoping Baker wouldn’t get the extra year. At least, not at OU. I worry about running some of our young talent off. Of course, a NC next year would obviously change my mind.
i think murray needs to start next year.
If OU makes the playoff again, BM’s going to be awfully hard to unseat. Taking this team back to back playoffs (or further) not including his general impact on the attitude of the team.
BM will leave if he has the type of year that gets us back to the playoff…stock and his profile can only go down
imagine(if we get lucky) a backfield of murray mixon perine throw in andrews mykel jones ad miller…scary good and fast
Looking forward to seeing ’em all compete next spring. In the meantime, let’s kick some Buckeyes all over the field on Saturday!
I’d like to see one. Especially if Perine and Mixon are back.
Me too, especially in games where they need a spark
He’s a QB.
I just want to take a step back for sec,
Parrish Cobb a True Freshmen getting to start against a top 5 blueblood program the biggest non-con home game in Stoops era. He’s been with us a month?
That young man has a huge opportunity to start his own legacy.
I’m rooting for him.
Im rooting for him as well.
We better be lol
It would be pretty awesome if he has a big play to turn big MO in OUs favor
we need any sort of big play. 0 interceptions so far…need one on saturday
Yep or a couple strip sacks
or a couple of strip sacks and some interceptions to boot!!!
Another Derrick Strait perhaps… We could use that!
He will be under heavy fire all day. Between conversations with Meyer and Herman plus game tape, they should be relentless attacking that CB spot.
The D Line getting pressure on JT Barrett is going to be key to relieve some pressure off the secondary.
Stunts and blitzes coupled with man-to-man coverage. I think we’ll be alright.
Absolutely THE key in my opinion. No corner can be expected to blanket (lockdown?) a good receiver beyond 4-5 seconds. Don’t care if it’s stunts, blitzes but pressure is a must if we want to win this game.
An interception would do wonders for his confidence level. I remember like daylight the moment we all realized Sanchez, Colvin and Thomas were gamers. I’m with him.
From what I’ve seen, he’s far and away our best bet. I say saddle him up and let’s see how he runs. He’s looking at a baptism by fire here. He could come out razor-sharp steel, or smoldering. I’d take the chance on the former, if it were me.
Kind of funny hearing that the #1 ILB is afraid of competition. Already been said, but we only have one other ILB committed, and a bunch of upper-classmen.
Be curious to see TFB do a unit comparison (hehe) between OU and Ohio State.
I hope Cobb gets most of the snaps. Only rotate him out if he struggles mightily, or for rest. Also glad Austin isn’t being banished. I think he is better than he showed against Houston.
Im glad Cobbs getting most of the snaps too. He might not be there yet but its beginning to sound like he can be our shut down corner of the future.
If PJ is banished, Austin should be locked in a closet. I just want competent corner play really. Even JT scares me a bit.
i have been saying this too. did the secondary play pretty good last year? yes. but losing sanchez changes the dynamic big time. JT is scary sometimes, he’s good but not great like ppl say. ahmad thomas is just ok 2nd corner spot is scary as hell. steven parker looks to be a baller so hope he is 100%
Thomas is sort of a clone of Colvin (maybe not as good yet but still), not great speed but excellent body control and mechanics. He can be beat, but generally only in straight foot races. Consider all of the #1 WRs he shut down last year. If we get anyone with ability opposite of him, its going to be a real tough out to pass on OU.
label me skeptical until i see it…like i said JT opposite of sanchez was one thing, the dynamic has changed
Austin simply doesn’t have the tools to compete with bigger guys.
Maybe we can all find out what P.J.’s bail was set at and get him out of the doghouse before the season is over.
if Walker doesn’t play this week after missing the Orange Bowl too? Man, talk about becoming a story in Sooner history. The best player who never played in big games.
That title is reserved for Demarco Murray until further notice
I really can’t see the Sooners having a chance without Walker.
Gallimore can hold down the fort unless the D is on the field too long and he gets worn down.
best case gallimore and walker on the field at the same time
+1,000,000
Gallimore is not as good against the run as Walker. Walker was one of the best in the country against the run last year.
Figured that out after one game of seeing Gallimore huh?
Great scouting.
Thanks, I try.
OU would certainly still have a chance but Walker being out would hurt significantly.
Next man up.
We don’t have that depth. Especially with Overton out.
Sure we do. Dimon, Romar, Wade, Roberts, Ward, Gallimore, and Bledsoe.
That is plenty of depth.
Bledsoe’s definitely a wildcard. Maybe getting to play that half flipped the switch. He looked like he was absolutely going to be a stud. Maybe it’ll be starting this week.
To replace a guy like Dimon or Roberts, sure. We don’t have another Walker just waiting to step in. Gallimore and Overton are supposed to provide that depth. Overton is now out for the season.
Agreed. We’ve got to have him.
Check out @BrandonTFB’s Tweet: https://twitter.com/BrandonTFB/status/776056508576477184?s=09
Stoops didn’t let anything on about Walker until the morning of the Orange Bowl. Put me down as skeptical Walker plays at all.
https://twitter.com/TRowOU/status/775865043271290881
“Play with effort, physicality, and tackle well Bob.”
above all, tackle well… and throw in a few shovel passes PLEASE!
That’s a good point. Nothing would be more fun than to see LR mix it up on offense.
Yep cant have Barrett dead to rights on 3rd and long and miss the sack and he throws a 40 yd pass
Or get called for roughing the passer. Those were killers vs. Houston.
I wonder if Dantonio told him his team needs to execute to win.
lol
Ah, Stoops going “Foreigner” here. Head Games!
https://youtu.be/WqdUC9SBUxQ
Kyler Murray, Bobby Evans, Tay Evans, Lee Morris – that school can become a good pipeline for us
Glad we have Murray but admit it feels “tainted” due to transferring in opposed to committing. Nonetheless, we’re making good use of him running scout for our 1’s on defense.
baker transferred in too
different dynamic imo, Murray created much drama surrounding his recruitment and it felt like a loss when he chose A&M. Mayfield was a walk-on at Tech, and quietly showed up in Norman. again, just my opinion.
i hear you…but murray is here now and is a baller. if he is as good as they say he is he would terrorize big 12 defenses, especially of we had mixon back there with him
Murray had drama during his recruitment, Mayfield had way more drama in his transfer. A rule was made after him!
Nothing quiet about it.
No taint on Murray, he is out of A&M jersey, that was the only taint he had.
By the time Murray takes the field as a Sooner, he will have been thoroughly cleansed of all things aggie. One of the benefits of sitting a year.
Understand what you’re saying. And a lot of folks said the same thing about Cobb, including moi, but are very glad to see him pushing to start so early in his career. OU finished 2nd for both but now they are full blood Sooners.
His open field moves are unreal…he could simulate Mike Weber as much as he could simulate JT Barrett. That being said, he carries the ball like Mike Vick…scary. Hopefully someone has taught him to tuck it by now.
Man you ain’t kidding on him needing to tuck the ball away.
So Walker is having a leg reinstalled but will be ready game day,we are good!
Next leg up!
We have the technology. We can rebuild this D-lineman!
Wait, that was the original Steve Austin/Lee Majors.
This is a really good Open Post this morning. Thanks TFB. Sad news about Walker, really hope me makes it.
What is wrong with Walker ? What is injured?
Will miss Walker this weekend if he isn’t full speed but JMHO this still bodes well for next year as far as Walker. He is having trouble staying healthy and being ready to play. He’s going to need to another season to show nfl scouts that he is not ‘injury prone’ and a draft risk.
Problem is, he seems injury prone.
He stated before this season it would be his last. He planned on going in the draft. I think has a kid and wants to take care of it.
It is great that Gallimore got some time last week and showed out. He won’t be Walker but he will be a good replacement if he can’t go or isn’t 100%
https://twitter.com/JustinbroilesJ/status/776096398840254464
Can’t wait for this weekend games. Lots of good ones, and to cap it all off, the MOTHER of all games. Wish it was on espn though, fox has always bad commentary and coverage.
The game feels like a toss up. Both are talented teams, each in different areas. If you truly look at it from match ups, its a wash every where. So, its going to come down to which team makes less mistakes, turnovers especially.
One thing that I really wish our D does is take some chances. It’s acceptable if we get beat sometimes and give up some 10-15 yrd completions. They are bound to make some plays. Just don’t have any busts for TDs. But we need to keep blitzing and hit Barrett a few times, and get him to make a few errant throws. Get some turnovers and we can pull it off.
On the offense, Riley needs to keep running the ball. Doesn’t matter the game situation, it shortens the game, and if we go into the 4th with a close game, we can pull it off with the home crowd advantage.
Especially that last part. Its so crucial for defensive rhythm to limit the number of total plays. If our offense can’t extend drives, Riley needs to recognize that and instead just start shortening the game to keep our defense from getting gassed. That is pretty much what we did against TN. I’ve been waiting years to see efficient offense return to OU, we have been so reliant on just rolling over opponents on big plays for way too long.
Agree. Especially, this year with the backs we have and the young receiving core, the first part of the year has to be about run mauling opponents. It establishes an identity for the OLine (help them get comfortable as a group) and it helps us on the defense as well.
The other thing is to not get discouraged with the mistakes the Line is bound to make. They are young and it will happen, but we need to keep going back to it, and we could bust some big ones since they are bound to correct them eventually.
I think I saw somewhere that Gus Johnson and Joel Klatt are in the booth for this weeks game. I’ll take them every game.
They are the better ones for sure. But still not as good as Kirk or Todd.
I’d agree with that. The thing I hate about Fox is them putting RRS on FS1. When the games are on the main network I prefer them to ESPN/ABC.
Ya, that is just disrespectful to be honest.
You mean like this pair better than Brent Musberger and Mack Brown ?
Honestly for play by play those old guys like Musberger and Verne are kinda fun to listen to now and then. Kinda bring a different flavour.
Lindsey Nelson, Ray Scott, Chris Schenkel, & Curt Gowdy were some of the best on the 70’s….None of this quartet were ‘homers’ like so many of today’s broadcasters…
Never Musberger, for me! Verne Lundquist is a true professional and excellent at his job.
True, Verne is much better than Musberger.
I really believe Kyler is going to be a player for you guys and I’ve always thought A&M didn’t do good by having an adequate plan for him, which either should have been to fully commit to him as a starter, or redshirt him and allow him to develop. As a longhorn fan, I do like that Charlie takes his time with the recruiting process and doesn’t push for early commits. It seems like the Big Fish wait until later in the process to commit, do you guys agree or am I being delusional?
You’re a horn so yeah you are delusional.
haha touche!
Couldn’t resist. LOL
Always respected Charlie, he started off on the wrong foot, recruiting wise, but did a fantastic job this year. Yes, with the receiving talent A&M had, they should have done better with Murray, though I won’t complain.
I think Charlie tells his recruits to hold off and commit at the end.
I agree with the Big wait until later in the process. I think charlie and Bob are similar in that they don’t push kids to commit but they are honest with the reality of numbers and who they can and can’t take therefore if you wait you might miss out. As much as I don’t like texas I can respect strong and his way of coaching and recruiting. Seems to run a good program.
I agree…but being from that yucky side still makes you delusional. That’s just physics. That’s inevitable!
And just a few short weeks ago the majority of people here “Cobb can go somewhere else” “We don’t want him here” “He had his chance” etc…
Jesus, who said that?
There were several.
151 really———————
Bacardi?
Yes Pagan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If I’m Mike Stoops I come out with my biggest, most athletic front to open the game. Walker-Wade-Gallimore. OBO-Evans-Evans-Doucet. And bring the heat because you can’t let JT sit back there and find open WRs. Get the ball out of his hand early and often. (You’ve heard this before from me haha).
Disguise blitzes, dont show your hand too early where JT can adjust to what he sees. Houston did a great job of this and because of it forced OU into some bad plays. Run stunts with OSU having a young/inexperienced offensive line. CONFUSION.
Hopefully Mike learned from the Houston game.
Isn’t saying ‘Mike learned’ like saying ‘purple unicorns are real’.
that, too.
that’s an oxymoron .
Mike Stoops should read TFB.
You mean rushing 2 and dropping 9 into coverage won’t do?
LOL or the famous 4-1-6 formation he used vs West Virginia haha
about like it did against Texas & Clemson last year……
The old 29 defense
1-10 we used was great against wv
Tavon is still running wild
did he just score again?
Yawn….
100% agree!!! I would delay blitz 90% of the time. Lets be the aggressor not passive. It sounds really silly but I still think that maybe the thing that gave UH so much confidence was the hit their safety put on Perine. Both sidelines took notice of that and I think our defense needs to do the same. I would even be willing to take 1 personal foul penalty if it meant that the whole stadium said, “OOOOOOOOOOOOO!”
As a 5’8 140lber in HS its like my youth pastor told me once when he knew that guys gave me crap for my size. He said you tell them, “I might lose this fight, this game, or battle, but I will make you bleed before its over.” I want our defense and offense to have that mentality
No doubt, it seems even this season when Mike has dialed up pressure they have shown it immediately and allowed the QB every chance to adjust. Don’t show it early!!
This has always been my biggest complaint with MS. Anyone is going to make passes when given the time, especially elite qb’s. BRING THE HEAT!
I’ve heard so many times about scout team players leaving everyone in awe, and so many times it doesn’t translate to the field. I sincerely hope KM is da bomb, but I’m channeling my inner Missouri here: show me (next year).
I gotta agree with ya on this one. Although, I think KM “might” be the exception to the norm.
curious………are you also on oui
Would just like to remind everyone that no one was complaining about Dakota Austin’s play last year when he filled in for Sanchez.
I was. I complained when he got an offer. JMHO
To be fair he came in after Sanchez was injured at TT. He started against KU and ISU hardly the meat of our schedule.
He’s a scrappy player that often plays bigger than he is but he’s awful small to hang with the big receivers. Sometimes no amount of heart or technique will make up for the physical shortcomings of a player.
Why do I feel the last sentence was directed at me?
If the shoe fits… or maybe doesn’t in this case.
8th grade basketball tryouts were difficult for me….
Basketball was never an option for me. Stocky slow guy with a credit card vertical (when I jump you can slide a credit card under my feet).
I am excellent at putt putt
I have no doubts Mr. Metz!
Winner! How people either don’t see or ignore this is beyond me.
What position will Mark Stoops have on the OU staff next year?
Was it you that asked this last night?
No it was Farmer.
haha!
HCiW
We’ll be the first program with 3 Co-D coordinators. Maybe 4, if Kish doesn’t get fired.
Oh, then we can hire Ron Stoops Jr to be the Coordinator of Coordinators.
Sounds like that would be the natural next hire and position. Certainly.
Director of nepotism.
ILB Coach and Co-DC.
Has anyone heard the status of Dahu Green?
What about DJ Ward, is he good to go?
Most likely not, from the type of injury we saw
From Bob Stoops Presser on monday “DJ Ward checked out well, should be okay”
Not sure if that has changed
Anyone else okay with NOT seeing any QB option this weekend?
I am…
Me too…
Just so he remembers that the word “option,” means he doesn’t have to keep it.
I’m okay as long as Mixon is the QB on the play.
I concur.
Thirded!!!
Wildcat, anyone?
For what it’s worth I think we are better on defense then they are- and once we start getting ahold of JT Barrett their offense will suffer greatly. We aren’t Tulsa, and as long as Baker does his job with help from the best running back group in college football we WILL win this game!
Agree
Now that’s the spirit!!!!
Finally someone positive thank you
Great minds think alike!!!
A bunch of sd type comments today.
I know, what gives? I could see if it was the 90’s but sheesh!!
I have no idea but my first day this week to kinda read and post and people be bringing me down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ATTN: DEBBIE DOWNERS…
Good one!!!!!!!
been a while since I’ve seen a picture of Orsen Bean…..some of you old timers like EastTx Bob may remember Orsen from his game show days back in the early 60’s..
God send…even KJ is bumming me out this week.
Our D line should be able to push their line around. Really need Walker in this game though.
Man, I’m not feeling good about Walker and with Overton done too that is a huge loss for this game.
Gallimore is young but is ultimately going to be better than either of those guys IMO. I know they play different positions. Wade and Romar are definitely solid as long as they’re healthy.
I really believe we’re going to have at least one, if not two, WR’s have breakout games this weekend. If I were to pick two, they would be A.D. and Mykel.
I hope Riley and M. Stoops have breakout games.
yep 🙂
Me too, but speaking to my comment, they will wrap Westbrook and Andrews tightly, we’ll need guys to step up to open the field.
Andrews will get his. Not sure about Westbrook.
If that happens, I have no worries whatsoever.
Same here.
^^^^^^
THIS will be where we either win or lose the game.
As was the case in game 1 IMO.
In game one, the def only allowed 26 points and took away the running game. Offense plays their game OU wis 2-0.
I think we’re fine if they rotate in the guys who looked good last week and give them opportunities. If we stick with the “old” rotations, we might get the “old” results. I know its different levels of competition but don’t care. Gallimore and Jones need significant minutes.
Not sure I’ve seen this much lack of confidence in the OU fan base since John Blake was coaching. You would think we were Kansas or Iowa State fans.
A lot of cautious optimism. Definitely not as bad as the Blake days. lol
Hey at least this team doesn’t need a giant Twister mat to get the right number of players for a punt.
Yes, and we aren’t totally changing the offense every week either!
We believe what media feeds us.
And then complain that they don’t know what they are talking about.
Eggsxactly!
No they are waiting on the day that, Blake is the O-Coordinator, Gibbs is D-Coordinator and yes Schnelly is the Coach and ST-Coordinator.
I have no prob with gibbs
I don’t either, he was put in a tough predicament.
Gibbs was a very good D-Coordinator.
Yep
I was going to ask if you were drinking early then I realized you were talking Gibbs as DC. Good DC, not very good HC.
Yes DC!
It’s just being realistic after the play calling and performances we’ve seen when the team meets someone who wants to win more than them. So far, as best as I can recall, we are 1-3 in adverse games since Riley came on board. It’s not so much the players that I’m concerned with. It’s the coaches playing who’s best for the position and calling plays to give those players the best opportunity to win.
On second thought…..
Methinks the peanut gallery believes we are out manned at every position. But hoping OU steps up.
Mr. Burgundy have you been lurking?
think it’s more along the line of not knowing who this edition of ou is yet…….one embarrassing loss with some flaws exposed and win a practice game……….
Maybe this week, instead of a prediction thread, a prayer thread would be more appropriate.
Blake years? Pretty extreme.
I think it was hyperbole. 🙂
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9K30e9O3Nng
You do remember Landry Jones. Don’t you?
There are statistics that cause this “lack of confidence” that you talk about.
I think OU wins this game. 1. This OSU is an unknown as well. Who have they beaten? This is not the 2014 or 2015 11-1 version.
I get the feeling the game will go how our D goes. If our D can shut them down for the most part we win. If not, well, it will be a long game for the good guys.
I feel the opposite. In a lot of big games it has always been the offense that seems to struggle so I feel they go as far as Lincoln and Mayfield take them. But considering this season so far I would throw cobb in there as well assuming he is the starter
That’s what concerns me about this game. Can Riley call a good game to give Baker and the team a shot at winning.
He called great games last year, the flub was Texas.
I should say equally as important is our running game on O. Those are two key factors to watch.
Curious, Is there a TFB tailgate?
It is always brought up, however never has come to fruition that I know of.
I’m setting up at Reaves Park on Saturday.
Do you need a parking pass over there?
Walker may be out, Overton lost for the season, also Tay Evans was limited at practice yesterday and may miss Sat too. Really not liking the injury situation this early.
More on Tay Evans please?!
Ohio State basically stole Michigan State’s defensive scheme, which is designed to eliminate the run game, read option, etc. We’ll need our OL on their game to establish the run plus protect Baker to get our pass game rolling. This Saturday will tell us all we need to know about the rest of the season, I for one am optimistic after watching them against TU.
Downhill running!!! Pound the rock!!
I really hope Riley gets creative with the misdirection in this one. We have enough skill position players that a young team like tOSU could over commit to guys like Perine and Mixon if we fake to them enough. They are a fast defense, need to make them think a lot to slow them down a hair.
They need to be thinking a lot about how much it’s going to hurt trying to tackle Perine again!
Bob Stoops had a phone call with Michigan State’s head coach this week, interesting that you mentioned this
Bingo, I bet Dantonio was more than happy to have a conversation
Right. Quarters defense.
OU has to make one-on-one plays. And we’ll have to call the right plays to sting their defense. Yuh think smash routes will be called?

I just don’t see this being the case.
???????????
I thought they were limited on how much they could text with coaches? Or did that change?
IIRC, they reduced a LOT of the restrictions regarding text messaging.
Does he ask Butch about the rape culture at Tennessee? Funny how ESPN stopped talking about an SEC school and their rape issues.
Thats odd. On twitter he seems to love OU

Why all this bullsh@#$# talk people be positive ok?This isnt hallmark week its FOOTBALL———————
But Hallmark gives us warm, cuddly fuzzies. I like fuzzies.
I haven’t felt this hopeless about a game since the Sugar Bowl against Alabama…
And you know how that one turned out.
exactly 🙂
😉
bazinga!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think after the Houston game, we really don’t know what type of football team we have. As far as the coaching decisions and preparations, they have had two weeks and another game to make changes and hopefully improvements there. This game will tell us a great deal on how good or not so good OU is, including it’s coaches on their ability to make adjustments. I predict a win at home and behind an impressive offensive performance all around, FWTW.
Agreed on the first part. I’m hesitant on an OU win.
Seems like a lot of tOSU fans are worried about our run game vs their defense. I’m curious to see how that plays out. Size over speed?
Happily our run game has size AND speed. They should be worried.
On the flip side, Urban Meyer is lighting a fire under his running backs and even JT Barrett by saying it will be nearly impossible to run and comparing OU’s d-line to Alabama’s. He’s an evil genius
You can’t knock his coaching ability, no matter how slimy he is.
Our D has done a good job against the run so far this year. Held two good running QBs to, I think, 6 yards. But I was talking about their defense vs our run game. Of course, if used correctly, every team should be worried about Perine and Mixon in the backfield together.
That’s probably Urban’s greatest fear, that Perine and Mixon will be used properly.
You know who else LR needs to use properly? Mark Friggin Andrews!
And it would be about time!
I think Mixon will show up, he really wants to go to the league after this season and playing his best on the big stage will really help
You spoke to him?
It’s called stating the obvious, who would want to constantly be hounded by the media bringing up their past, not that going to the NFL will cause it to end but at least he’ll be a professional getting paid. And how about ignore my posts since you always say some sideways remark
They held Houston to 89 yards on 40 carries. That is ridiculous against a team like that.
If there’s one thing Mike Stoops is good at, it’s taking a dimension out of an offense; it’s the fact that the other dimension ends up being better than expected. We will stop their run game, I have no doubt but it comes down to our pass rush/coverage
Exactly.
Considering their young, inexperienced defense has never seen a RB, much less two, like we have, they should be worried.
Hopefully JY’s dream will come true, and we’ll further compound the issue for OSU by running to the numbers advantage.
Hey man…you’re going to the game with us right?
Yep!
Awesome. Mo and his family are coming to town for the game. Our section is the white stripe……
Excellent, ok.
haha if they ever did that, mixon and perine both would be 1000yd backs no question.
Which is why I wonder why they don’t. I’m not a football wizard, but I would expect the coaches to be aware of it, and at least have a line of logic for not doing it.
Now, that’s a question that a reporter ought ask at the next Presser!
If our run game works, then I like our chances.
OUr run game HAS to work to win. Do not see OU receivers getting open otherwise and Baker running for his life. Riley will have to commit to it, maybe some misdirection. Do not think OU will gain big yards early but either back is capable of turning a 3 yard run into 12. Just keep moving the sticks, dink and dunk, keep the D on the sidelines resting and gotta get 7, not 3. If OU has to take 3’s it’s likely a loss. Andrews and Jones need breakOUt games.
I think we will have some receivers open. TU did.
This. I’m not so sure it won’t be our passing game that carries us. I don’t see us lining up and running all over Ohio State. But on the flip side, I don’t see them doing that to us either. QB that has the best game, his team wins, IMO.
It probably comes down to what tOSU D is willing to give us. Most of our plays are RPO’s, so Bake needs to make the right call and take what they give us. But our O line needs to respond and drive that D line apart for our backs to hit the seams.
He better PITCH it to Perine if he runs an option as open to pitch as he missed against Houston. One more like that and a gang of former Switzer QBs will need to give him a talking to – along with the ghost of Jack Mildren.
Holieway was at the game on Saturday a couple of rows in front of me. Maybe he’ll give Baker a good talking to…
Jack – beat him a couple of games of pool in the ’70s.
To be fair though he was a better quarterback than me.
I’m assuming you mean Baker has the option of calling the pass or run play at the LOS for each play?
When I think of RPO, I think of a play where he has both options post-snap. Maybe I’m mistaken.
RPO meaning each play has an option to run or pass depending upon the defensive formation and the actions after the ball is snapped. Bake needs to pick the correct option as play evolves.
Need Walker and Perine, two of our best, to be full speed and balling the entire game to have a chance IMO
Need the O-line to give them just a little space to run through. None of this getting pushed into your own backfield crap. And LRneeds to stick with the run even if we’re only getting 3-4 yards a pop early.
3-4 yards a play gives you a first down every series and keeps their offense on the sidelines.
I agree. But Riley has shown a propensity for abandoning the run game if we’re not picking up 5+ yards per carry. All you have to do is look at how bama handled USC. USC was selling out to stop the run and was limiting Bamas back to 2-3 yards per carry typically. But they kept hammering away and in the second half all those body blows opened the flood gates. With our backs Riley needs to take a page out of that book.

He looks so happy.
Almost as happy as a puppy with a chew toy
The picture on the top of his twitter is hilarious. He looks like he is bigger than the rest of the team combined.
I hope the D-line remembers that its still okay to raise your arms to block passes.
What going on with Tay Evans? Read stoops didn’t know if he’d play or not.
Got banged up. Heard he was fine though.
Good! We need his size..
Beat Ohio State——————
I’d love to see the tOSU equivalent of the ‘Bama “wow” girl come Monday AM.
Give Meyer and his team a swift kick to the buckeyes and send them packing!
What part of the anatomy is a Buckeye, anyway?
A part that will get their attention, and maybe drop them to their knees.
Buckeye- Isn’t that a condition where one eye sticks out farther than the other?
Here, you filthy animals.

Is that time right on the Thursday Houston game?
no game @ 6:30
Thanks. I thought that was a little weird.
Farmer is right. I’m sure they’ll update it tomorrow. They also have Kelly Stouffer calling two different games @ 2:30.
Anyone know if this will be Dusty’s first game (North Texas @ 23 Florida) to commentate?
He did the LSU game last week
No had Northwestern game week 1 and LSU last week
Nope 3rd
https://twitter.com/FOXSports/status/776120849346629632
Sam, get yourself a sign letting the world know that you’re from Ohio, but yOU are 100% Sooner.
Good one. I’ll have to look into that.
Does Overton get a medical redshirt? With no DT’s in last years class I feel that will be important for future DL depth.
Brandon on his podcast said he thought he would.
From what I understand, he fits the criteria so it’s just a matter of getting all the forms filled out.
Visitor list just keeps growing!!!!!!!!!!!
Kinda quiet on here today what gives TFB’ERS?———–
I just got off work, do I get a chance to at least change into something comfortable.
lmao!!!!!!!!
The other option was well it would clear the room and no one would be in here. Ok, It looks like a lot of people are feeling good about this game. I still haven’t got that warm fuzzy and no I’m not saying we are going to lose, I feel like if we can play the way we are capable of then I see us winning. I plan on losing my voice this weekend and not have to talk next week.
We will be fine lots of downers on here today!
I don’t know why. We just need to be focused and ready to go.
Yeah, there is a bit of “woe is me” going on. Maybe, they’ll give their tickets away! I could help them out with that.
Work
There are rumors that Lebron James will be at the game this weekend
LeBron, an ass whooping, beautiful women, tailgating, new stadium and Oklahoma Football! Good recruiting tactics, this weekend looks better and better
I’d rather have Westbrook.
Screw Lebron. Screw Westbrook. Screw Durant.
Go Larry Bird!!! lol
Great OP today K,Brandon.Props to Jordan on the daily!Light it up night crew, see yall in the am BOOMER———–
SOONER!! Have a couple barley pop’s for me!
Calling it now, BS is holding the info. I hope I’m wrong, Walker will miss this game. SUCKS.
What’s his injury supposed to be?
“slight pull.”
Agreed, no one has ever been assigned to the weight room during a big game week like this and then actually ended up playing. And I’m sure he’s not lifting weights either! Not good.
We always have key injuries in big games. Mostly bowl games that cost victories. Going back, AD was only able to carry 3 times against Boise St, Kelly gets injured on the first play. Murray can’t play against WV in 07, Florida 08′ Bradford and Gresham out for most of 09′ Walker out v Clemson…
Lehman talking about this on the radio right now regarding Walker and all he’ll say is “if you don’t practice, you don’t play”. Won’t name any names but they were talking about Walker being out for the game.
Thanks. We need to win this freakin game! Freakin Walker is hurt every year. I am 54, all I want for my birthday this year is a victory on Saturday. Is that too much to ask?
When talking about Walker i think he must be a part time player. He has been out more than anyone i can recall in recent history. Would say he has missed 3/4 of his playing time at OU
Yep. He was like that in high school as a player as well.
Walker is about a must have as it gets.

Might have been asked already but any guesses on the starting o-line against tOSU?
My guess is same one from ULM game. Brown and Evans at tackle, Ford and Samia at guard, Alvarez at center
?????
I may be mistaken, but doesn’t T-Rob have a connection somehow, meaning he could be implying there is an impending BOOM?
Tyrese Robinsons Brother I believe. (Hope I spelled that correctly) #ST18 OLineman
Is committing? Or is the identity of T-Rob?
Identity!!
Nice! Then I would assume he does have great knowledge of what is going on! And a stud football playing brother!! Hopefully the news comes soon!
Or is he T Rob?
Tyrese Robinson SS17. He’s the man!
Tease.
Man oh man this is good. Really good
any idea?
well we know its not Hines haha
Is Denzel back on the road?
bring the boom
So I finally get to watch the game on replay this morning because well, I’m tight as a frogs mouth. And I’ve been thinking for the last four days – the oline, watch the trenches, the tOSU game is dependent on the fellas. Then damn, this Mixon guy…
Next time watch PPV for free, I did from Japan! Free free free

Had a great meal (octopos) in Yakota back in the day.
Edit. Octopus Dang spell check
Jpn..Tako…When I first came here years ago, I saw a sign on a door of a resturant that read in English Tako…I said, I miss tacos…lets go in…she laughed because she read the Kata-kana…I thought they were serving mexican tacos and spelled it wrong! I still miss mexican food…
i would NOT eat either one, DR
Ha
So, with Walker assumed by me and others to be out, what’s the DL rotation? Will Dimon give us some push into the backfield?
Based on what we’ve heard I’m afraid you’re right. I’d imagine Gallimore’s snaps just went up, but I’d prefer he and Walker were on the field at the same time. Dimon and Romar will likely see the bulk of the time with Ward rotating in as well I would think. Not sure Dimon gives us any push, but he is assignment sound.
Have we put Walker and Gallimore on the field together at all this season?
it has been said already but I will say it again, this is the biggest regular season game for the overall state of the program in a long while. If this team can beat tOSU and Texas this year not only would our playoff hopes look good our recruiting would soar to new levels. NEED the W on Saturday
