Alston Orji: In case you missed it, Sooners LB target, Alston Orji (Rockwall, TX) committed to Vanderbilt…

This doesn’t come as a complete surprise. We mentioned a couple weeks back that Vanderbilt was a dark horse in Orji’s recruitment. In speaking to Alston’s father it’s always been clear that academics were going to play a big part in their decision. The Orji family was also clearly very impressed with the Vanderbilt staff. They visited Nashville earlier this spring.

This morning I caught up briefly with Alston’s father who said, “The (Vanderbilt) coaching staff are some of the most amazing group…I really like their values. Alston was recruited by the whole staff, not just one coach”.

Fortunately for OU they recruited well at the LB position last year. – (Super K)

Brian Asamoah:  A bit of good news on the LB recruiting front though…some of you may recall that the Sooners offered athletic 2018 LB, Brian Asamoah (Columbus, OH) earlier this spring.

Asamoah let me know recently that he has scheduled a visit to OU for the last week of July. I can’t confirm but I suspect the Sooner staff will be holding their summer barbecue around that time and Asamoah plans to attend. – (Super K)

Dashaun White: Another Sooners LB target is 2018 prospect, Dashaun White (North Richland Hills, TX). I spoke with White recently and he couldn’t confirm an announcement date but it does sound like he’s looking at making a decision sometime this summer.

White holds offers from OU, TCU, OSU, UCLA, Texas A&M, Baylor and a number of other schools and says he has not yet made a decision but feels like he will most likely stay within the region. White is no stranger to OU. He’s been on visits to Norman on multiple occasions and the Sooners are definitely within his top group. – (Super K)

Tanner McCalister: The Sooners stopped by to see 2018 DB, Tanner McCalister (Rockwall, TX) yesterday. McCalister is a talented defensive back than the Sooners have had their eye on for a while. In fact he’s been up to Norman on a visit.

TCU and Oklahoma State appear to be his leaders. My sources on the OU side tell me that an offer from Oklahoma could be on the way.

Should that happen I’d expect McCalister to make his way back up to Norman in short order.

I’m pretty familiar with Tanner and I think he’d be a good offer for Oklahoma. He has great size and athleticism but is also a very competitive and high character player with a strong work ethic. – (Super K)
