– Roshauud Paul: 2017 WR/ATH, Roshauud Paul (Bremond, TX) dropped his top 4 yesterday and the Sooners made the cut.

Paul tells me he will be in Norman this weekend. – (Super K)
– Weekend Visitors: We expect a few visitors this weekend.
2017 WR/ATH Roshauud Paul
2017 CBΒ Tre Brown, Brown is expected to visit Sunday instead of Saturday
2017 LB Levi Draper (OU commit)
2018 WR CJ Moore (Tulsa Union). Moore is a tall receiver that can run. There is a very good chance he will walk away with an OU offer.
2018 DB Isaiah Humphrey (Sachse, TX). Already holds an OU offer.
We suspect there will be more…
– UPDATE (2:08 pm): 247’s South Carolina site was the first to report and The Oklahoman is also now confirming that Steve Spurrier Jr. will be joining the staff at Oklahoma in some capacity. As to what exactly that will be is not known at this time, although you can guarantee Bob Stoops will be asked about this on Thursday when he is expected to meet with the media prior to the start of spring practices. Now whether or not Stoops will offer up any specifics at that time remains to be seen, but hopefully we’ll find out more relatively soon.

Are they good enough to be a mid-major?
Levi Draper coming to witness a Tre Brown commitment this weekend?

Can OU hold off the fighting catholics for Draper????
Yes and everybody else!
I dunno…why dont we ask Caleb Kelly.
seriously? you’re a joke.
Howdy Fear.
Hey Metz hows it going?
Im pretty sure you just thought “Open Post” and it materialized.
wtg!
Yea thats it,going good thanks
Good to hear. Saturday can’t get here fast enough.
So very true my friend!
Short answer….YES. Draper is all in at OU.
Kersey is breaking.. Spurrier Jr. Is joining the OU staff in an off field role..
fwiw, the 247 South Carolina site had word of this 24 hours ago. So if there is credit to be given for breaking the story, it’s theirs.
Ok
I mean, I get it. No reason for anyone to really care and please know I wasn’t calling you out for it in any way whatsoever.
Just wanted to make that clear π
So no props to Stoops for hiring a experienced coach for an off the field role? I mean, I mean, its not Saban doing this so not expecting any curtsy from you.
WTF?
All we hear from JE is Bob should do this, Bob should do that. Well here he is doing exactly one of those things and JE puts it off as some ploy and favor. Not saying he knocked it out of the park or this was some HR hire but just stating that this is a good thing and a much needed supportive role for the staff. Just find it odd that JE will praise Saban (numerous times) for hiring these “coaches” to fill supportive roles. The coach Saban just hired was a HC a Maryland “so that is some awesome hire” but Stoops hires a WR coach with 21 years of coaching experience with over a decade in the SEC and running these types of offense. Just odd response constantly from JE.
I understand jr.
If it’s the first hire of several adding an actual support/analyst staff that is full of (over)qualified individuals all there w/ the purpose of supporting the coaches & program, working to make sure OU reclaims it place among the elite programs of the country.
You’re damn right I’ll give Stoops props (like that would mean anything to anyone regardless).
Is this that?
I don’t know yet. And frankly, neither does anyone else outside of probably Bob & Jr.
Thanks for the update, man. That’s interesting for sure
Sooners post a tweet and the mod gets technical? The same mod posts tweets all day long as informative news. Thanks for sharing Jeremy.
update added
Wasn’t jr on staff Stoops first year?
first couple, yeah
thought so thanks.
Well looks like Stoops is taking your advice on bringing in advisers.
We’ll see. I want to be wrong, but to me this feels like it has “favor” written all over it.
Thats possible J .
That was my first thought too.
Great minds think alike! But maybe he helps recruiting..
Hopefully. The Spurrier name cant hurt.
How many on staff can recruit tho?
Good question
what has he been doing of late?
Working for his dad at South Carolina
what role?
WRs coach & recruiting coordinator
It really doesn’t matter how/why someone gets on staff does it? The question is can they contribute to the success of the team?
Wide receivers coach if I remember correctly.
yessir
That update has me like:
Heck yeah! I remember what Jr. did with a bunch of average DBs once he put them through the tennis-ball machine at WR! This is great freakin’ news!
I’m excited, man!
Will Steve be bringing his bucket of tennis balls? As I recall that was one way he taught our WRs to catch when he was here in the beginning with Bob.
John you look a little young to remember that far back.
LOL! I wish. In fact today is my birthday. I’m — dare I say it — 66 and still kickin’ ass.
Happy Birthday and Boomer!
Thanx! Sooner!
Happy Bday!
Thanx guys.
Happy Birthday, John!
Happy birthday, sir!
Happy Burthday, John. Kickin’ it is better than the opposite!!
Exactly. LOL.
Happy Day John!
Keep kickin it!
Happy Birthday!!!
Happy Birthday John!!! Any kin to James? I just turned 71 and still treading water.
Maybe Wade but I doubt it. I’m butt-ugly.
That’s why I used this picture with my beautiful wife beside me.
Just view the world and all it’s richness and the blessing that you have had to have lived almost 7 decades. And if anyone brings you down just say: “F**k those sonsabitches!” and go back to contemplatin’.
Love the spirit in that reply. I may be “old” but I refuse to be invisible or irrelevant. Still dancing like no one is watching. (And generally no one is. LOL).
Steve Spurrier this season, probably:
So…. Just now seeing that it’s Steve “JR”.
Epic fail
On his way JR Sweet visor
J can jr legally recruit for us or no?
Depends on what role they officially place him in, but not likely he could do anything off campus.
Thx well then your probably correct in your assessment.
I know there is a fixed number that can recruit off campus during any given period. They let Viney recruit off campus when BJW left and before they had hired Cooks. However, Viney was a GA at the time so I don’t know if they are in a different category than a ‘QA’ coach or whatever they call Spurrier Jr.
Thx Bob.
Could this be move with Spurrier be as a consultant like was mentioned OU should do like Alabama does?
It’s certainly possible.
Exactly my thoughts.
We hear all kind of comments about Bama having coaches out the ying/yang and then question whatup when we hire people.
Reaction to the hiring of Steve Spurrier Jr. is a little bit

Made me laugh!
My dream scenario:
Suprrier Jr – Inside WRs coach
(which doesn’t have as much to do w/ Jr. so much as just getting Gundy back to RBs)
Gundy – Move back to RB coach
Boulware – Out
Kish – “Retired”
Think Kish is doing good now.Granted im no coach.
Best LB class in 2016 for OU under Bob Stoops wasn’t good enough for the moderator.
You’re new here. Jordan hates everything about Bob Stoops. Just get used to it. This site is excellent except for the moderator’s constant negativity.
Jordan isn’t afraid to speak his mind or point out problems where they exist. Unfortunately, so many “fans” cannot handle any criticism of OU whatsoever, and immediately bash anyone who dares to say otherwise and call them a “hater.”
I’ve found Jordan to be very honest and fair in the past. I haven’t posted much since the Clemson game, but what I’ve read from JE hasn’t been hatred of Bob or OU. I like Bob Stoops, but I have my sincere doubts he’ll ever win another NC. I think we’ll be a good solid team under him, but he’s no Saban or Meyer or Carroll. That isn’t going to stop me from rooting for my Sooners. Doesn’t make him bad or me a hater, but I guarantee there will be replies to that effect.
Oh well, no sleep lost on my end.
Neither is Jardan Esco.
Who?
Local radio reported it as an ” off the field” position, no idea about the source.
That is straight from Kersey’s report. Nobody knows exactly what role he’ll be in at the moment. Hopefully Stoops will offer some details at his presser tomorrow.
Don’t lose your day job as moderator. Ha!
You’re cut throat Jordan! But I agree! Lol
I liked to know what the problem with Kish is? He can recruit. What? He isn’t a solid LB coach?
He’s not bling enough for the mod.
I don’t believe he is a great recruiter or coach, and I believe there is evidence to back both of those up.
Done! Make it happen.
I don’t understand the Kish hate. We brought in some great LBs (would have had more if one didn’t show); 3 of his LBs were invited to the combine. Jeez if I was a kid looking to play LB at a D1 school I would have taken note that the one position that had multiples going to get ready to play in the NFL was LB. @jordanesco:disqus as a moderator of a site that recruits frequent I would think you could hold that opinion to yourself or at least support it with facts.
Sorry, Tim.
No hard feelings?
Glad you responded, I figured it would be something snarky and not anything of substance.
You have no evidence to support your statement the LBs they are bringing in are, or will be, great. – Fact
Kish didn’t recruit Striker. – Fact
By virtually any measure and/or opinion of those who would be considered “experts” on the subject, i.e. not myself, Kish is not a good recruiter. Kids like him, which is great, but he’s not a true closer, at least on elite level kids, and there is a clear and proven track record to support that assertion. – Fact
Very few, if any, OU LBs under his tutelage have made significant, tangible improvements. – Fact
Is that substance enough?
Yes you could say that about any position being recruited or kid that is on campus, production is measured on the field. . So you think Striker, Bond and Alexander came to campus at their ceiling potential? Coaching had nothing to do with getting them to the combine? I am sure you will tell me that Kish had nothing to do with DeBerry or Kelly or Youngquist or McGinnis but those kids knew who was going to coach them up and committed to OU. Obviously the NFL folks disagree with the assertion that they players haven’t made tangib,le improvements.
The fact that the kids knew who would be their coach — especially Kelly, a 5-star, and Youngquist, a 4-star. They’re coming in from Cali — is a very important fact. And I guess Kish had nothing to do with Dom’s being — what was it? — a Freshman AA or some such thing?
Youngquist is coming after all?
I think esco is saying that Striker, Bond and Alexander didn’t reach their ceiling on potential under Kish.
How exactly do they disagree? Because they got an invite to the combine? This is a conversation we can have after the draft w/ respect to the three you’ve referenced. Until then, care to tell me who else Kish has actually put into the league, not just got a Combine invite?
Let’s do that for all of the coaches past and current. Then we can see how Kish, and whoever else is someone’s pet pin cushion, stacks up against other coaches.
Kish is not Venables. Tim does not have the same level of enthusiasm as Brent. Kish is not as amiable with the media as Brent. Kish does not exhibit the same type of behaviors on the sideline as Brent.
However, the same arguments you have made for Kish I can make for Venables.
Should we attribute Tony Jefferson’s success in the NFL (undrafted, however) to Willie Martinez? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-er8oh2toMw
Overall, regardless of coach, how many LBs has OU put into the NFL that turned into good/solid/productive players?
Little bit of a double standard here. You and the whole TFB staff tout Monty as this great recruiter. Two years out and not a single one of his recruits have produced one bit on the field, with the possible exception of Que and my 2-year-old grandson could have recruited him to OU.
The on-field stuff is undeniable, albeit most of those kids are redshirt freshman so it’s not exactly as if it’s time to write them off.
That said, he landed multiple “elite” kids — both here and at Michigan –, at least based on rankings (which have all kind of flaws, but that’s an argument for another day). Which is why he was/is considered a ‘great’ recruiter.
The same cannot be said for Kish. Which is why he is not considered a ‘great’ recruiter.
in your dream, who is the new ILB coach?
I’d have to put some more thought into it. The chances of this actually happening appear so slim, I haven’t really wasted any time looking into potential replacements.
OBC II
Off the field job is most likely to help Bob in his day to day job as HC like Saban brings on to the staff. That’s the only way Spurrier Jr can stay plugged in and learn from a Top 5 coach until something comes around for him down the road.
why hire Jr. ? is Cale or Dennis Simmons leaving?
Saban hires experienced coaches in limbo all the time to bolster the staff off the field until they find their next gig. Why not OU?
He’s out of a job at South Carolina and needs a soft spot to land.
Was looking at the mock drafts and noticing the two Clem DE’s are projected to go somewhere inside the top 10-15. Puts in perspective what our 2 young tackles had to deal with in Miami.
Definitely. Brent was pretty quick to say after the game that they knew they could handle OU’s OT’s because although they knew they’d be good in time, right now they were freshmen.
I heard the 2 boys were pretty down about it after, but I think when it’s all said and done, these kids will have pretty darn good college careers and will eventually play on Sundays for a little while.
..
So they hire a relatively untested DL coach in but then bring in Spurrier?
It’s not like Spurrier Jr. is a hot property. He’s been coaching for 21 years and has never gotten a job from anyone other than daddy or the Stoops brothers.
Well people at least recognize the name, he’s gother 21 years of familiarity with the processes. It’s just strange hire. Hopefully Bob will explain the motives and goals of it tomorrow.
Bob’s going to open up and explain to the media his thought process? I think you must be pulling my leg.
Well, given the events of the last week or two, I wouldn’t be too friendly but you never know. Still, unless someone is moving in the coaching staff, it sounds like it’s a buddy move for the Spurrier family.
Would having Jr. be the Director of Recruiting full-time be allowed or would that count against the coaching staff count?
That’s Cale’s other job isn’t it?
Yeah
Im not sure if the Director of Recruiting is necessarily a football staff position. I think it’s more of a compliance position.
That’s what got me curious because if they are by definition two different positions then the staff position would be labeled Recruiting Coordinator or no? It seems like there is a lot of sifting through semantics trying to find a title that makes the spot NCAA compliant.
Yeah true, I”m sure they would differentiate between an actual working classification and a working title, I would hope.
My impression is that is one of those titles given to bolster the guy’s resume and give him a bump in salary. Kind of like “Running Game Coordinator.” Let’s see we have an offensive coordinator, a running game coordinator, a passing game coordinator, hmm can we give the last guy a title? Oh, I know Director of Recruiting.
Director of Game Coordinators. Well, I guess that would be the Head Coach…
Director of Hydration Services?

Nice!
Foosball is the devil!
Tha, tha, tha, that’s some quality H2O!
it’s 4:20 and JE still hates Kish
The bashing is too predictable, if not pathetic. A mod can write a couple of paragraphs about their point of view, then quickly moves on to think he can coach college football on the same level as Bob because he gets a couple of upticks.
With all due respect, but taking what was actually said and wildly misrepresenting it into “quickly move on to think he can coach college football on the same level as Bob” is beyond idiotic.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVTpCViyUwM
Love that!
Guys, guys. I said it was 4:20. No reason for this. You focused on the part that wasn’t important.
4:20. Marijuana time?
os……….Maybe OU could hire Steve Spurrier Sr to do Stoops pressers for him?
With a bottle of Coke as a permanent prop!! Oh, wait that was…….
You need some Golden Flake potato chips too.
I would pay to watch the pressers if they did that.
Oh I vote for that!

Nice. Like how OU retains the red brick look.
#ExtendAllTheCoaches
SCAR fans were high on Spurrier’s coaching and ability to develop WR’s. Would be a waste if he wasn’t allowed to get involved.
Did a helluva job converting some DBs to WR the first time he was here.
Let’s see……Boulware mysteriously and suddenly gets another job. Cale goes back to RB coach and Spurrier Jr. Coaches inside receivers. What do you think?
It appears we offered Trevor Kent from Pittsburg Kansas. I wonder if it’s for TE or DE?
Good size already at almost 6’5 and 242. Do you know of his speed?
Think I saw 5.8 40 so I wasn’t impressed until I watched his film, kids a baller.
Hopefully you meant 4.8. Yea, may have seen the same clip. Bob likes those big TE H backs. The only one we have now is Woods from Big Mac. Hope he produces.
Funny, I read his name (Trevor) and thought, I wouldn’t want to be a QB recruit with a name of Trevor right now. : )
LOL, I went and looked again, it was 4.8. I was looking at several things at once and misread the stats.
On the flip side, I wish this kids name was Clark Kent and he wore buddy holly glasses. : )
We could call him Clark. I’m still laughing because I had that 5.8 in my head and after watching 3 or 4 plays I was like damn, kid looks a LOT faster than that on the field. π
LOL. From where I grew up, anytime I see Pittsburg, I think Pittsburg county, not Kansas.
The Gorillas are a pretty darn good football team in Pittsbug, KS. My nephew went to college there to play football, but had a third ACL tear and gave it up.
We also have Carson Meier.
Wonder how he’s getting along? I had high hopes for him out of HS.
He was pretty slim coming out of HS, Andrews was much more physically developed. Assuming the emergence of Andrews as a pass catcher and Knight as a blocker put Meier back on the depth chart. Still, I’m intrigued to see what role they use him in the Spring Game.
Didn’t Carson move to OT?
I don’t believe so. It would be news to me if that’s so.
Thought I read that some time back or saw it on a depth chart.
I saw defensive end.
Steve Spurrier, Jr., back on the OU staff? I love it! I thought he did an excellent job as a WR coach–arguably the best technical WR coach Bob’s had–and he got the most out of a former QB in Antwone Savage, Damien Mackey (who had never done much in his OU career until SSJr), Curtis Fagan (who became a darn good college WR), Andre Woolfolk who made one of the most amazing catches I’ve ever seen (never understood why we had him switch to CB full time…should have played both ways, as much on both sides of the ball!), and the development of Josh Norman from RB go NFL caliber receiver!
I really hope he works with the receivers in some capacity again.
