First Day of Practice: Yesterday, the Sooners had their first day of spring practice. No pads of course. I’m still checking with some folks but here are a few quick things I was told.

The media was permitted access to the first bit of practice so you may have seen the videos of RB Rodney Anderson who looks physically fantastic. Source didn’t say much about him other than to say the staff is still taking it slow with him and he remained limited as practice went on.

I was told the wide receiver who looked definitely different than he did last fall was Mykel Jones. I was told, “you can tell he’s starting to really figure it out”.

I was told, “Broiles looked better than expected”. Keep in mind Broiles has been limited the past few weeks due to an Achilles strain. Source also said that, as a player, “he’s young and has some work [to do] but he’s going to be ok. I’m not sure if his future is at CB, it’s too early, but he was better in my eyes [than expected]”

Heard strong compliments for young safety, Chanse Sylvie. One source said, “looks much more refined. He’s becoming his own player. He used to look to the older guys a lot but he’s trusting himself. He looked good”.

Some videos of new JUCO WR, Marquise Brown, at practice were circulating on twitter yesterday. And right away you could see he had some juice to him. When I asked my source how he looked through the rest of practice in genera…the source laughed! It was like a, “wow!” laugh. Source said, “He’s fast, fast, fast. He dropped some but man, he is precise with his routes and he’s just fast! They’re (QB and WRs) are working on the chemistry but he’s going to get it”. I asked how Brown compared to Westbrook in terms of his speed and quickness, “tough to tell right now but trust me, he’s fast”. The fact that it’s even a question of whether Brown can compare to Westbrook tells you just how explosive and speedy Brown is.

In terms of the linemen, I didn’t hear much. Source said, “it was just an extension of winter practice. Lots of evaluation, not much moving around personnel wise”
