– Merlin Robertson Visiting: We’ve already noted that the Sooners will host talented 2018 DB, Kalon Gervin a couple weeks from now for the Tulane game.
You can add another big name to the list of visitors for the Tulane game. 2018 LB, Merlin Robertson (Gardena, CA) tells me that he will also take an official visit to Oklahoma in a couple weeks.
We’ll have more on Robertson as the trip approaches. Robertson does hold an OU offer to go along with offers from schools like LSU, Oregon, USC and others. – (Super K)
– Derrick Shaw Visiting | Another 2018 DT: Yesterday, I caught up with a source who is close to Derrick Shaw, DT out of Broken Arrow, OK. Source let me know that after his showing on ESPN this past Saturday that Sooners DE Coach Calvin Thibodeaux got in touch on Sunday. In case you missed the Broken Arrow vs Tulsa Union game, Shaw finished with 12-tackles, 1-forced fumble, 1-fumble recovery, 2 pass breakups & 3-tackles for loss. Here are the highlights from Saturday and yes, this is all from one game.
I put out multiple tweets about him while I was watching during the 1st half (didn’t get to see the 2nd half) as he was obviously all over the place.
Broken Arrow 2018 DT Derrick Shaw has been impressive. Showed nice lateral agility and shot into the backfield in a hurry for TFL.

Theres Derrick Shaw again man. Nice quick arm over move and then shows that quickness getting down the line quickly for a TFL. Like this kid

Spring hightlights here to give you even more of a feel for his game.
On film, I really like what I see out of Shaw. Quick off the ball with the explosive burst up field to penetrate gaps. Impressive movement laterally & can run sideline to sideline. Powerful kid with natural leverage and shows the strength to handle/split double teams. He flashes the ‘long arm’ technique along with an effective arm over move. Love the ability he shows to use his hands to disengage from a block. Has a non-stop motor but also love the awareness he shows at times like he did on the screen vs Union. Shaw is further along technique wise then most defensive tackles you see at this level. Kid is flat out disruptive and with added weight fits the mold of a 3-tech in a 4-3 defense.
Now the question with him obviously is his size. Per the source I spoke with, Shaw is currently 6’1” and 270 pounds and holds FBS offers from Navy & Texas State at this time. Thibodeaux likes what he sees out of Shaw but wants to get a look at him in person to see how tall he is and I’m sure see if his frame can hold more weight (without sacrificing some of that athleticism).
I was able to catch up with Shaw himself last night who confirmed that he will be in Norman this Saturday for the Utep game. Not surprisingly, Oklahoma is a school Shaw is highly interested in. – (Alex)
