Notebook | Evans, Haselwood, Georgia on my Mind & McCoy
– Super K

***Last weekend, I went over to North Shore to watch their pre-season scrimmage. As many of you know, they have 5-star running back, Zach Evans over there…

The two teams to watch in this one are Texas and Texas A&M. However, I spoke with Evans’ brother who said they have visited Oklahoma twice and they plan on making a return visit this season.

The issue of course, which they mentioned, is Oklahoma already has two running backs committed in Jace McClellan and Jaylan Knighton.

Btw I’ll be in Georgia to see some players this week. And one of the players I’ll get to see up close is 2020 OU commit, Jaylan Knighton. His team is traveling to Atlanta to play Buford. Interestingly, Buford’s running back is likely to end up at Texas. So, it’ll perhaps be a preview to a future Red River battle.

***The Sooners already have a great wide 2019 receiver class. But there are always plenty of balls to catch when you play in Lincoln Riley’s offense. In other words, everyone who’s hungry gets to eat.

This class may not be done yet. The Sooners are still pursuing the number one rated wide receiver in the country – Jadon Haselwood.

Haselwood is another player I plan on seeing later this week.

In regards to Haselwood, I’ve been simply told that

a) there is a possibility of yet another return trip this season depending on the scheduling and

b) nothing is done in this one until signing day. The exact words were, “don’t assume anything until signing day…”

Teams to watch, I’m told, beyond Georgia are Miami and Oklahoma.

***A quick update here on 2019 CA ATH target, Bru McCoy (Mater Dei). Checked in with his father over the weekend to see if the OU visit is still happening. To which he said, “for sure. Just not sure on the dates. We have limited dates we can go but that will be one of his officials unless something drastic changes on their end”.

In other words, his father is saying the only way they don’t visit OU is if OU doesn’t trip him.

Yeah, that’s not going to happen. Bru McCoy is elite…absolutely elite. USC and Texas are two schools to watch here but as the McCoy’s push their OU trip back, OU may end up with one of Bru’s last visits.

The plan for the McCoy’s is to announce at the All America game. However, Bru’s father has previously mentioned to me that he isn’t sure it’ll end up going that long.

Quick Hitters | NewWave19 Official Visits Set | Wilkins & Washington
– Charlie S

– Woodi Washington will be taking his official visit to Norman for the FAU game this weekend. Washington’s father let Super K know that he will be heading to town on Friday to spend the weekend in Norman.

– After sending out this tweet…

Stacey Wilkins confirmed with me that he will be taking his official visit for the UCLA game. I mentioned earlier this week, that Stacey let me know he was possibly visiting for UCLA.

Jaden Davis Visiting | Sooners Putting Up A Battle In Florida
– Charlie S

– The Sooners currently have three defensive backs verbally committed in the NewWave19 class in Woodi Washington, Jamal Morris, and Jaden Davis.

Kerry Cooks and the staff are currently looking to add at least one, and potentially two more athletes to that group. Jaden Davis is doing his part as well by recruiting 2019 safety Jordan Battle (St Thomas Aquinas, FL) to join him in Norman…

As we mentioned previously, Battle and the Sooners connected shortly after the Urban Meyer saga began to unfold in Columbus and by all appearance, things have progressed well as plans for him to officially visit Norman for the Baylor game are being finalized.

Additionally, Jaden Davis tells us he will be visiting for that weekend as well which is obviously good news as he and Battle are tight and Battle was even in his commitment video…

With Peyton Powell visiting Norman this week, the NewWave19 defensive back class could be seen in a much clearer picture by the time September ends…

Quick Hitter | JUCO OL Finley Felix
– Super K

***Spoke to a coach at Coffeyville C.C. JUCO OT regarding Finley Felix

Felix originally mentioned he was going to be able to make it to the Army game (September 22nd), however, his coach let us know that they will be playing that week so a visit would not be possible.

He did mention that their team has a bye week for the Baylor weekend (September 29th) so a visit could potentially take place at that point. So the Baylor game could be another important weekend for visitors.

On OU and Finley Felix, his coach said “OU has offered him and is recruiting him. He doesn’t have a visit date set yet. Right now he has a bunch of offers but he is focusing on our season”.

We will keep you updated on the plans for his visit.

Sooners Opener vs FAU | What I’ll Be Looking For
– JY

Hey Sooner Fans! It’s the best time of the year! Three days until the 2018 football season kicks off for our Sooners! Here is what I’ll be looking for on Saturday as the Sooners take on the FAU Owls!

1. Is Kyler Murray the man? As sooner fans we’ve been spoiled for a few years with Mayfield at QB. It would be unrealistic for us to believe that we won’t see a dropoff of some kind. Let’s face it. #6 was the Heisman Trophy winner and #1 pick in the draft. Those are tall shoes to fill. Will Kyler take the reins of the offense and be able to make plays when plays aren’t there? It’s funny because I was thinking about how Peyton Manning was the best QB in Tennessee history and when he left, Tee Martin did nothing but come in and win the National Championship the next year. Hoping we see that happen to the Sooners this year.

2. How is the defense going to play? The words “Rose Bowl” make me want to vomit in my mouth. I’ve watched that game over and over, and there were so many opportunities to put that thing away. With a little bit better defense it’s 31-7 at the half and a blowout in the 2nd. It’s possible that the Sooners chalk up #8 last year had the defense been there. What will we see? Is Kenneth Murray the guy who has studied film all summer like we’ve heard? I hope so.

3. Are the d linemen going to get turned loose? There’s no telling how many sacks Obo has last year if he rushes the passer more. Will Gumbs & Jackson be able to fill that role? Is Gallimore going to be the guy in the middle we all hope he can be?

4. Is it possible that the Sooners have a defense that is feared by other teams again this year? We haven’t seen that in a long time.

5. What happens if the Sooners get down a couple of scores early due to the new QB and question marks defensively. Who’s going to be the spark that lights a fire in the team to get them back?

6. Is the O-Line going to answer the bell? With almost everybody back, you’d expect a heavy dose of Rodney Anderson & Trey Sermon. With the new QB in charge of a potentially dominant offense, the O line needs to lead this team all year. Can they be the group that they have the talent to be? It’s certainly the deepest most talented group we’ve had in I can’t remember when.

7. We all know about CeeDee Lamb & Hollywood Brown. Who’s going to be the third and even fourth guy? Grant Calcaterra comes to mind. Will another talented youngster step up?

8. These first three weeks are going to say a TON about what kind of team this is. It’s very similar to two years ago when the Sooners went 1-2 with losses against Houston & Ohio State. Any of these three teams can beat the Sooners if they don’t come to play and aren’t assignment sound. As a guest on Terry and Rob’s podcast this last week I said that this team is talented enough to win the Sooner’s 8th national championship. It’s possible they lose two or three games too. There are a lot of unknowns right now, and if the Sooners come out as hungry as they say they are, then we’ll find out in a hurry what they’re about.
