Quick Hitter | Danny Stutsman
– Charlie S

Caught up with Sooners 2021 linebacker commit Danny Stutsman who is listed at (6’2.5 215) following his trip to Norman for the gathering that was put together by Caleb and Carl Williams a couple of weeks back.

Stutsman had committed to Oklahoma back in early May without ever having physically been to Norman.

The trip to Norman served to further solidify his commitment to Linebacker Coach Brian Odom and the Sooners. Danny was accompanied on the trip by his parents and he said “Everything we saw and did was way better than I expected”.

Stutsman and his high school team open their season this Friday night. One thing of note that caught my eye is that he told me he is heading into his senior year at 6’3″ 220 lbs according to his latest measurements.

Pick Six : Team | Sourced | Scrimmage Notes
– Super K

Saturday night, the Sooners held a scrimmage. Have not had a chance to get notes on all position groups but I will work to do so. Here are a first set of notes. In terms of offense and defense overall, am told that the offense started out hot but by the end it was a fairly even affair. Both sides got theirs.

These are six selected notes. If you would like to read all the notes from the scrimmage, please check the Donor Board.

*** While some players missed the scrimmage, OU had the guys where it mattered – in the trenches. Am told Bedenbaugh had his arsenal of big dogs on the OL. Remember earlier in the week how optimistic coach B seemed when talking about this year’s offensive line? Sources tell me after seeing them yesterday, he has every reason to be.

***Heard really excellent reviews about that group. But what blew my mind a bit was hearing that last night’s starting LT was true freshman, Anton Harrison. But that’s not at all a bad thing apparently. Word is Harrison is that good. One source said Harrison will be a first-rounder before he leaves here.

***Source also said Brey walker is making progress. Also, was told that Raym is indeed a stud. Can apparently play multiple positions, comfortably, on the offensive line.

***So as it stands now, it’s looking like Ealy at RT and Harrison may have won the starting job at LT. I’ll continue to check but again, I’m told he was the starter in yesterday’s scrimmage and he was impressive.

***Also, told while no one had a turnover, Kendall Dennis apparently almost had two. Dennis was an INT snatching machine in high school. So, as he gets more comfortable at OU, at some point we expect that aspect of his game to come out. It’s not there yet but sounds like there might be glimmers of possibilities, showing up.

***One source said that the defense, in general, is going to be good this year. Again, was told Grinch was overall pleased with yesterday’s performance. I think what’s important to remember is that coach B knows what a good OL looks like. So, when they feel like they have a good OL then you can trust that and it gives you a more realistic sense of where your defense is. At other programs, you may feel like your defense is good, but that could simply be because the OL isn’t. Most schools just don’t know what they really look like because everything can be relative unless you have a position group where you’ve had a lot of success in the past and your staff knows what “good” really looks like.

Fast Five from : Monday Notebook Part One | More Sourced Scrimmage Notes & Quotes
James Hale

One coach told me that they are getting the entire roster ready because, in essence, all the players are getting a free year. After all, they get to come back next year at the same classification. This is a free year for all the players, so you might as well get them all ready. Sure, you will still have quality players playing on the scout team, and you will still have a depth chart, but in the year of COVID-19, you never know when guys will be called upon to play.

One thing that is evident about how the team is practicing and scrimmaging is that there is a lot more depth in the secondary. ‘K’ pointed out that Kendall Dennis (5’11, 181) got his hands on a couple of balls but couldn’t quite bring them in. What is so encouraging about this group of defensive backs is that they appear to be great ball hawks and cover guys, with their length and experience covering in the passing game.

Junior Tre Norwood (6’0, 194) just returned to practice from quarantine hell and is in a major battle with sophomore Jaden Davis (5’10, 185), who I am told was on-point during the scrimmage and has been in camp. Freshmen Joshua Eaton (6’2, 175) and D.J. Graham (5’11, 200) all have had good moments but struggled early as senior Tre Brown (5’10, 186) was held out of the scrimmage for the most part, and Rattler and the offensive gang took advantage of match-ups early. I’m told senior Obi Obialo (6’3, 218) started at the H-receiver and made some nice catches and gains over the middle.

Senior Theo Howard (6’0, 182) is still the expected starter inside, but word is he worked outside with sophomore Theo Wease (6’3, 192) and junior Charleston Rambo (6’1, 175). Howard and Obialo are going to play, and Obialo is really coming on. They put some pressure on a young secondary, but the youngsters found their way during the scrimmage and held on.

I’m told Junior DaShaun White (6’0, 227) was held out of the scrimmage as the defensive coaches wanted to get a better look at the new linebackers and the young backers on the roster. Sounds like Sophomore David Ugwoegbu (6’4, 251) and junior Robert Barnes (6’2, 232) both got a ton of work with sophomore Brian Asamoah (6’1, 230). Both Ugwoegbu and Barnes showed well in the scrimmage, with Ugwoegbu making the biggest hit and Barnes flashing for three to four tackles.

TFB Talking Point | Captains | Who Ya Got?
– Charlie S

The Sooners opening game against Missouri State is less than two weeks away.

Over the course of the coming days, it is likely that Head Coach Lincoln Riley will announce his starting QB as well as his captains.

I think we are all pretty much in agreement that Spencer Rattler will be the starting quarterback, I want to see if any of you can nail who the captains for the program will be.

You can use this thread as a discussion post about who will be the captains and why you believe they will be.

But for fun, make a post stating the four names you think will be captains, and let’s see if anyone gets a bingo that we can point back at!
