Jordan Hudson | My Take
– Super K

You will recall that a while back, we were first to report that Sooners wide receiver target was being heavily pursued by Texas.

Back on February 2nd we said the following (here):

Hudson said the new Texas staff has been heavily recruiting him and it goes back to the days at Bama.

We also said that despite a pretty good ranking, Hudson was probably still too low:

***Since then, Hudson has been dominating the select 7v7 circuit.

***Also, since then, it’s been widely reported that Hudson is being heavily pursued by Texas.

***Where we depart from some others is that while there are some who believe Texas may be able to flip Hudson, I have a hard time seeing it.

***A couple weekend’s ago at the Pylon in Bullhead City, Hudson said the following…

***A lot of the talk about Hudson and Texas began after that event, in part, because of Hudson’s relationship with Texas QB commit, Maalik Murphy.

***I spent some time with Hudson, Maalik and their mothers who were at the events. And, while they are friends, the discussion most people don’t know about is that Hudson has been trying to recruit Maalik to play in the state of TX next fall for his senior season, assuming the Covid protocols have not been lifted.

***In other words, my sense is that the recruiting going back and forth between them is more about that than college ball.

***Also, I spoke with Hudson off camera and again, I get the sense he is extremely solid to OU.

***Once things open up, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Hudson and plenty of other commits take some visits because they haven’t had a chance to go through the recruiting process. That wouldn’t make Hudson any different than other recruits.

Hell Week Wrap Up | Sourced Notes
– James Hale

Hell week is over, and now the Sooner coaches will take this week to evaluate their team as they get ready for spring ball set to start March 22nd. For the past week, the Sooner coaches put the team through a week of intense workouts with various drills to find out who will compete, lead, and be tough enough to hang in there. Invariably every day, an athlete or two will not be able to make it through. The drills are that hard. They either didn’t eat right or get enough rest, and for some reason, they get sick and can’t finish.

For the most part, a great majority of them did, and now that the week is over, the team seems to have become a closer unit making through the week.

By the end of the week, the team finished strong, and the coaches felt they became a better team.

The team also celebrated another Big 12 Championship on Friday.

You can talk to different people in camp and get different answers as to who did well. I was told Sophomores Trejan Bridges (6’1, 180) and Jadon Haselwood (6’2, 200) had great weeks getting through all the drills and showing off their incredible athletic ability. Word is redshirt freshman Marvin Mims has picked up where he left off in 7v7 drills, and he is a guy that the DBs have trouble holding.

The offense is looking for a new leader in the offensive line now that Creed Humphrey is heading to the NFL. I’m told Junior Tyrese Robinson (6’3, 335) is trying to be more vocal and lead. To be honest, this is a position as far as leadership that is a little bit in development mode. Junior Chris Murray (6’3, 297) is a natural leader, but he is battling for the starting center job, and until the guys really know who is where with a position, as far as a leader goes, is a little bit up in the air.

I was told he three Tennessee transfers, sophomore offensive tackle Wanya Morris (6’5, 320), sophomore running back Eric Gray (5’10, 205), and second year freshman Key Lawrence (6’2, 200), were outstanding this week. All three are very athletic and can really run and do all the things that show up in the drills that they were put through. Athletically, all three players are what you look for in college football, and they all showed up many times this week.

It’s not surprising to me that it sounds like junior Pat Fields (5’11, 204), Delarrin Turner-Yell (5’10, 195), and Jaden Davis (5’10, 185) are leading the secondary. They are the veterans back there, and Fields and Davis have always been pretty vocal. The team just respects DTY so much because he is always busting his butt, and the team counts on it.

What is great about the secondary is that their athleticism showed up and was outstanding all week. Through recruiting, the coaches have improved the athletic ability on the back end. I’m told guys like redshirt freshman Bryson Washington (6’2, 197), Lawrence, and Joshua Eaton (6’2, 175) all got long looks. All three have the size, length, and pedigree that the coaches want in the secondary. Sounds like Washington looks good flying around, and he has looked good early in 7v7.

Another player the coaches wanted to watch to see how he looked was freshman corner Latrell McCutchin (6’1, 175). OU has high hopes for McCutchin, and while it took a little while for him to get used to the intensity of the workouts, once he got his feet underneath him, word is that he was outstanding.

At linebacker, from what I was told, there is no question that senior Caleb Kelly (6’3, 232) is the leader. He didn’t go through all the drills. He went through as many as he could, but even when he was not in a drill he was a leader on the sideline. By all accounts, Sophomore David Ugwoegu (6’4, 251) is a man and is such a good athlete that he just excels in any drill they put him in. The more this guy is on campus, the more he looks like a star in the making.

One player who really stood out this week according to my source is freshman quarterback Caleb Williams (6’1, 210), who is very athletic. Williams is a born leader, and that showed up even more than his athletic ability during the drills. Williams won’t beat out elite signal-caller Spencer Rattler (6’1, 205), but he will help lead the team with Rattler this year.

Quick Hitter | Ish Harris Top 5
– CJ Vogel

2022 Pilot Point LB Ish Harris has announced a top five is on the way.

I am able to confirm that the Sooners will be in the top schools list when it eventually drops.

I reported on February 23 that there were a number of schools coming after Harris already.

Harris told me there are four teams hot on his tail right now, Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma and Baylor.

I would expect some type of combination of those schools to accompany Oklahoma in the top five.
