With shots going into arms, there is a growing sense we can be pretty much back to normal by Independence Day if we all do our due diligence. We know that the Sooners plan to have full capacity in the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium this fall, and college programs are making the same kind of plans all across the country.

In recruiting, the Sooner coaches are counting on the dead period being lifted on May 31st. They are not totally sure because they are dealing with the NCAA, but with major plans to return to normal this fall, there is no reason why recruiting can’t be open up back up in some capacity on June 1st.

OU has not had a prospect on their campus that they could talk to for over a year, and once again, OU is very aggressive. OU usually holds their ChampUBBQ in late June, right before their training camp starts, but they haven’t seen recruits so long that they will move it up to June 12th.

Prospects from all over the country are trying to lock down that date on the schedule so that they can get a look at OU. Soon you will start to see a list of players that Charlie and the rest of us will start to put together of the prospects coming in for that event. It’s has become a prime event for recruits to get an invite too, and when players do get that word, they try very hard to make it in.

OU four-star linebacker commit Kobie McKinzie (6’3, 227) of Lubbock (Cooper), Texas, says he plans on making it in. Five-star Raleek Brown (5;8, 185) of Santa Anna (Mater Die), California, also hopes to make it back for the third time, but for the first time since the pandemic, and the first time since he committed.

You know four-star wide receiver Talyn Shettron (6’3, 185) of Edmond (Santa Fe), Oklahoma will be on campus, and so will four-star wide receiver Jordan Hudson (6’1, 180).

You would think that all the commits will be coming in for that prestigious event, but it’s early, and phone calls, texts, and DMs are just going out to find out who is in. Three-star ‘Rush End’ prospect Derrick Brown (6’4, 210) of Texarkana (Texas High), Texas, says he will come back and visit his old friend Clayton Smith.

Kam Dewberry Announcement Info
– Charlie S

Recently Kam Dewberry tweeted out the following…

Spoke to CJ who let me know that this will be a top schools list and you can expect OU to make the cut.

The date is significant to Kam as it is his grandmothers birthday…the same one who accompanied him on his trip to Norman last spring.

So again, top schools list, expect OU to be on it.

Quick-Hitters | Jacoby Mathews & Kris Ross
– Super K

***I don’t think anyone here was getting their hopes up about landing 5-star DB, Jacoby Mathews (Ponchatoula, Louisiana).

But, we had heard that the Sooners were running tied for third with Texas behind LSU and Florida.

I spoke with Mathews this weekend and it sounds like he already has a top three in his mind and the Sooners are not one of them.

I will say that he spoke highly of Oklahoma in terms of their success as a program and the direction of their defense. But, the issue seems to be that he hasn’t visited Oklahoma and has visited the other schools and it sounds like he wants to start getting down to a decision. If he holds off and the Sooners get him on campus in the summer then they’ll be able to make their pitch but for now they’re running behind three other schools.

Again, OU already has quite a few DB targets and I’m sure they are well aware that pulling a kid out of Louisiana is tough, anyway. But did want to supplement what we initial thought with my most recent conversation with Jacoby.

***Also, 2022 DL, Kris Ross (North Shore) is set to announce his decision on March 23rd. Last night, he let me know that he has yet to make a decision. He is still weighing things.

I did find out though that he is planning to visit USC for a self guided tour in the next week or two.

But, still believe the big players in this one are going to be OU, LSU, Texas and perhaps Baylor.

Myles Pollard | Sooners DB Target | Visit Update
– Super K

This past weekend, we saw Sooners 2022 DB target, Myles Pollard out of Ravenwood High School (TN).

Pollard looks exactly like I imagine coach Grinch and Manning would draw up a corner. Solid 6’ or taller with a great frame.

Myles does have a top six which includes: Oklahoma, Tennessee, Michigan, Washington, Kentucky and Virginia Tech.

He told me that Auburn has made a big push and they are now in his top group.

The reality is, I sense this one is really down to Oklahoma, Michigan and Auburn.

This is a recruitment the Sooners can absolutely win. They seem to really like Oklahoma. They are set to take an unofficial self-guided visit to Michigan this week. And, I get the feeling Mo Linguist is a big draw at Michigan. Linguist coached defensive backs for the Cowboys and Myles’ uncle played in the NFL.

On Saturday when I spoke to Myles and his father, they told me as soon as visits open at the end of May (assuming they do), they plan on heading to Norman for a visit. However, when I spoke to Myles’ father on Sunday, he mentioned that they’re considering getting in the car and just driving over to Norman sometime in the next couple of weeks to see the area.

So, while the Sooners definitely have some competition, again, Myles and his family have built a good relationship with OU and the Sooners are in striking distance here.

Should have even more on this later.
