Update | News From the Portal
– Charlie S – Posted on: March 14, 2022
On Saturday,, we posted a note where we mentioned that the Sooners had their eye on a potential transfer to add to the running back room:
‘***On his journeys Super K picked up a note of interest in regard to the portal…
Throughout the winter, Brent Venables has repeatedly mentioned that OU will continue to be aggressive in regard to adding players to their program that they see as fits.
While there are two high school players left out there that the Sooners are pursuing in OL Josh Conerly and DL Lebbeus Overton, K was told that the Sooners have their eye on a potential addition via the portal to the running back room.
The player in question has not yet entered the portal, so we will not be dropping the name right now, but should he enter the portal, or the May 1st deadline come to pass, we will point back to this post and name names. I will say he was a class of 2021 running back and I think his style would be a very good fit for Lebby’s offense.’
I mentioned in that note that once the player entered the portal or the May 1st deadline passed, we would name names…
Here you go…
USC freshman running back Brandon Campbell has entered the portal.
He was a 2021 recruit as I mentioned on Saturday and I feel like his style, one cut and go with some physicality, would be a good fit for Lebby’s offense.
We are not ready to say this is a done deal, but we can tell you we believe there is mutual interest.
Possibility of Visitors from the Northwest
– Charlie S – Posted on: March 14, 2022
Touched base with Ryan Clary who is the player personnel director for Ford Sports Performance out of the Pacific Northwest.
They have a 7v7 program, which Sooners ’23 WR commit Ashton Cozart plays on when available, and they are playing in a Pylon event in Dallas this weekend, and Ryan told me they are working on finalizing plans to get to Norman while out this way.
Why is this noteworthy? Well they have a very talented roster, which includes ’23 OU defensive line offer, Jayden Wayne (6’5 245) out of Tacoma, Washington.
Interestingly enough, there is another familiar name on the roster in ’23 WR and former OU commit DeAndre Moore (6’0 185) out of Los Alamitos, California.
Clary tells me ‘they are getting things all confirmed’ in regard to dropping by Norman.
FSP has a very talented roster which is west coast heavy for sure, and potentially getting that group on campus is a pretty cool deal.
Shortly after I posted this note o the site, Jayden Wayne tweeted…
So, there’s that.
Quick Hitter | OU Surging for 2023 DL Jordan Renaud
– CJ Vogel – Posted on: March 14, 2022
I was able to catch up with 2023 Tyler Legacy DL Jordan Renaud this weekend at the Under Armour camp.
*** I will post a longer, more in-depth report on Renaud later in the week, but wanted to share my initial thoughts of our conversation together.
OU made a really strong impression on the four star Tyler prospect. Renaud spoke very highly of his time with Brent Venables and Todd Bates while on campus. Bates is building a great relationship and ultimately doing a tremendous job in this recruitment.
Originally, I had expected Texas A&M to be the team to beat here, though that is no longer the case and it appears that the Aggies have fallen out of favor.
I believe this recruitment will last a bit longer, but right now, I have to imagine OU is in a very good position to land Renaud.
Notes & Standouts from 2022 Under Armour Camp Series
– CJ Vogel – Posted on: March 14, 2022
Many of the best prospects in the region gathered in Arlington on Sunday for the 2022 Under Armour Camp Series with the opportunity to earn an invitation to the 2023 UA All American game on the line.
There were plenty of Oklahoma targets in attendance, and for now, I will run through several of the top performers before getting into recruiting notes throughout the week.
*** Off the bat, let’s dive into the camp MVP’s.
- DL – Xadavien Sims and Terrance Green
OL – Isaiah Robinson
LB – S’Maje Burrell
RB – Cam Cook and Marquise Collins
WR – Jaxson Lavender and Noble Johnson
DB – Mario Buford
QB – Jake Strong
*** This is the second camp/showcase in a row where Isaiah Robinson has been honored as the top offensive linemen in attendance. It appears he has really put things together and has learned to play with that necessary mean-streak.
*** Also for the second consecutive camp, 2023 North Forney WR Earnest Thomas has looked tremendous. When the verified track times come out for Thomas, look out. He could be one of the fastest risers in the state for the 2023 cycle.
*** I am not really sure what regional schools are waiting for with Terrance Green. The Cypress product earned MVP honors and has been scorching hot on the recruiting trail. He has been impressive both times I have seen him in person now.
*** This was my first time getting to see San Antonio Brennan DB Tyler Turner in action. Turner recently opened up his recruitment following a brief stint as a Baylor pledge, he wants to take the process slowly as more and more schools get involved. Turner was very impressive.
*** Obviously, winning MVP honors indicates a solid outing for North Crowley’s S’Maje Burrell, but it really gave me an idea of just how well he can move in space. Burrell is one of my favorite linebacker options in the state this cycle and has his eyes set on setting up visits for the remainder of the month.
*** I am a big, big fan of Mayde Creek’s TayShawn Wilson. An ideal nickel in my opinion.
*** The defensive line group was loaded once again. Guys like DJ Hicks, Jordan Renaud and Zina Umeozulu all had impressive showings.
*** On the flip side, Connor Stroh was superb all afternoon. He was successful in all but one of his reps Sunday afternoon. Most schools are pitching him at tackle, however, he mentioned after the camp that there is some interest at guard.
*** Texas A&M commit Anthony James said he is still exploring options despite having verbally committed to A&M for over a year and a half. Right now he is looking around at potential visits for the remainder of the spring.
*** Oklahoma WR commit Ashton Cozart was a guy that had a solid day as well. I continue to be a fan of Cozart’s route running. He is really good at understanding blind spots.
I heard after the camp that Cozart ran the fastest 40 yard dash of the day.
*** College Station RB Marquise Collins is a guy DT has been very high on for quite some time now. He won MVP honors at the running back position and drew praise from several other backs in attendance.
*** Speaking of running backs, Tre Wisner says he will get back down to Norman in the near future. Again, Demarco Murray has been tremendous here.
Overheard some of the UA coaches talking about Wisner’s game, saying he was the most complete back in attendance.
*** One of the top performers in my opinion was 2024 Waco Connally CB Kobe Black. Kid is a stud and held his own against plenty of the state’s best in the 2023 class
