News From the Portal | Potential Addition
– Charlie S
Penn State quarterback Micah Bowens (6’0″ 195) out of Las Vegas, NV, has entered the NCAA transfer portal…
Last week Super K mentioned this possibility in our TFB Group Text message. What does he have to do with OU?
***We believe OU is in the running to land him, and it could be as a potential walk-on.
Bowens signed with the Nittany Lions with the 2020 class and did not receive any playing time.
Something to keep an eye on as OU is high in quality at QB with Rattler and Williams, but low in depth as Chandler Morris and Tanner Mordecai both transferred out.
Sooners Offer 2021 OT Austin Uke
– Charlie S
Recently the Sooners offered 2021 offensive tackle Austin Uke (6’4″265) out of Dallas, TX (Parish Episcopal).
Last week in chat, I mentioned that Uke was a guy OU had been in some communication with and they have now thrown their hat in the ring for his services.
Uke holds over 20 offers which include offers from Texas, USC, Penn State, Stanford and Northwestern. He also holds offers from Vanderbilt, Georgetown, and Columbia which says a lot about his academic prowess.
Our owb Darius Terrell calls Uke ‘The most athletic tackle in the ’21 class’…in fact, back in December of 2020, he had this to say in his post about the top 60 in Texas…
’30. (NR) Austin Uke OT 6’4 260 Dallas (Parish Episcopal)
Analysis: Say hello to the most athletic lineman in the state of Texas. His feet are terrific and his comfort level in space can’t be taught. He’s a natural knee-bender that shows the repeatedly shows the desire to finish plays. Uke is a late-bloomer that is just getting started. After some time getting bigger and stronger at the college level, he could be a guy I look back on and say I still had rated too low. Watch the video.
Recruitment Status: Uke’s stock has exploded over the past month with over two dozen offers coming in from all over the country. He will narrow things down in the next few weeks and decide on National Signing Day II.‘
***As far as his recruitment goes, the Sooners are jumping in late and will have a lot of ground to make up on the programs who have been recruiting him for a longer period of time.
***We are working to see where OU stands in his eyes, but initially, we do believe he is open to listening what the Sooners have to say and then we will see how things develop from there.
***I actually like this offer more than I did the Strickland offer (yes I understand they were recruited at different positions).
***We will keep an eye on how things progress here and if the Sooners can make a late move.
Pruitt Firing Fall out | Another Thing to Watch
– Super K
Another thing to watch is going to be possible transfer portal moves. A specific name we’ve heard recently is that of former Sooners DB target, Keshawn Lawrence.
You’ll recall, Lawrence took an official visit to Oklahoma back in 2019. I went out to Tennessee to see Lawrence and at the time his mother was recovering from a life threatening illness and while he seemed very high on the Sooners, he felt it was best to stay closer to home.
Lawrence is very good friends with Sooners DB, Woodi Washington and Sooners OLB/DE, Reggie Grimes.
I don’t know whether a transfer will actually happen but sources in Tennessee have indicated that it is a possibility.
So, for now, I’ll just say, again, it’s something to watch. And, should he enter the portal then I think OU is going to very much be a possible destination. And yes, the Sooners would take him.
Bookie | Status Update
– Super K
As you know, we’ve been waiting to hear final word on whether Bookie will be returning to OU or not.
We had been hearing that Bookie was actually contemplating a jump straight to the NFL to try his luck there.
However, earlier today, I heard from a California who told me that the word out there is Bookie is actually considering a transfer to a PAC 12 school.
I don’t know if anything has been decided. So, he certainly could return to OU. But this is something that is on our radar and last I checked with sources close to OU, they still didn’t know what he was planning on doing.
