Quick Postgame Thoughts | Big 12 Championship
– Charlie S

Your Sooners got the job done and won their sixth consecutive Big 12 Championship!

My quick thoughts on the game…

***’Defense wins championships’ is one of the most widely thrown around sayings when it comes to football…and in this case it proved to be accurate once again.

*** The Sooners defense forced 3 turnovers and they were the difference in the game. Tre Norwood, Pat Fields, and Tre Brown all came away with interceptions. Good on them for securing the ball…but…

*** The defensive line put a lot of pressure on Purdy which forced him into several poor throws. They did not get the number of sacks they have been getting of late, but they played the best OL in the conference and won the battle up front.

*** Perrion Winfrey was very disruptive and forced the issue many times. Dude just needs to learn how to close.

*** Isaiah Thomas and Ronnie Perkins were harassing Purdy all day and Nik Bonitto had a very impactful game as well!

*** The front 7 held Breece Hall under 100 yards and he really wasn’t much of a factor on the day. Huge credit to the Sooners defense in taking him out of the game in large part.

*** The secondary was ‘ok’ as they did get credit for the 3 turnovers, but there were still a lot of times when they lost their man in coverage or had an assignment bust.

*** Thought Woodi played well and DTY did as well for the most part. Solid day overall by the secondary, but they will see where and how they can improve upon watching the film.

*** The offense…underwhelming.

*** Give credit to ISU as they played their game and took some early haymakers on the chin but then settled down for the most part.

*** Thought Rattler had a very good day aside from one really poor decision that he got away with. Tried to throw a pick, turned into a first down for OU. Ball bounced well for OU there. He put up 272 yards and one TD on 22-34 pass attempts.

*** Rhamondre was a factor in spurts…feels like a lot of the reason behind that was based on play calling…which was a head scratcher at times once again.

*** Thought the OL was better than it was against Baylor and was encouraged to see Bedenbaugh finally sit Swenson down after another massive bust. Also liked the fact that he put Murray in for the fourth quarter at RG…think you may see those changes stick for the Bowl Game…wherever that is.

*** The WR’s are where my biggest frustration was at today (aside from the play calling). They were no different then they have been all year which is basically Marvin Mims for a big play and then you hope the others work themselves free.

*** Do not get me wrong, they made some strong catches…but they also dropped too many and were not able to separate consistently.

*** Give Trejan Bridges some time…the drop was unfortunate and it would have been a phenomenal catch…he will be fine and I hope we all get to see him be more of a factor for the bowl game.

*** Have to give it up for Tre Brown on special teams and his ability to rise to the occasion in the Big 12 Championship games year after year. Not only was the interception a game sealing deal, but those two kick returns were HUGE for Oklahoma.

Will get deeper into the game talk this week!

Enjoy the victory! OU continues on a historic run here!

Grinch | Arizona | Sourced Update
– Super K Posted on: December 20, 2020

***Sources on the OU side indicate that Grinch did not interview for the Arizona job. Obviously, this could be smoke screen but…

***Whether he did or didn’t, we are told that he is not interested in the Arizona job.

***So, the Sooners seem safe for now.

Camar Wheaton | Update
– Super K

***With the TJ Pledger to the portal news coming this morning, Camar Wheaton becomes a bit more important.

***As I noted last week, there was some early feeling on the OU side that Wheaton would sign in the early period but our DFW sources felt otherwise.

***I am told that the Sooners did not receive a NLI from Wheaton so either Wheaton didn’t sign at all in the early period or didn’t sign with OU in the early period. I believe it is the former and still think OU is in this one. They’ll just need to let it play out and not pressure Camar.

***Wheaton is set to announce this Wednesday. As I said last week, I have received no sourced information that this date will change but based on how Wheaton’s recruitment has gone so far, my gut tells me to be cautious and at least be prepared for a delay.

***If he does commit and things go as they’ve been trending then my pick is OU. If there is a delay, it could still end up being OU but it means the Sooners pressuring Camar a bit pre-signing day has him rethinking things. I still don’t believe Bama has a spot for him. I think they have limited numbers and are still waiting on three higher priority prospects (Terrion Arnold, Jaeden Roberts, JT Tuimoloau).

Tre Brown Declares for Draft | Opts Out of Cotton Bowl
– Charlie S

Sooners DB Tre Brown has announced he will forgo the Cotton Bowl against Florida and prepare for the NFL draft.

Brown is a senior who leaves one year of eligibility on the table in Norman which he was offered by the NCAA due to the COVID situation.

The move to the NFL was widely expected and it makes sense for him to begin preparing for the draft with all the uncertainty around the bowl games this season.

Good luck Tre! We will all be watching!
