Insider | Injury Note
– The Football Brainiacs

Yesterday morning, on the Donor Board, we were the first to report some disappointing news on the injury front…

***Sources told us that Sooners linebacker Caleb Kelly has suffered another lower-body injury that will likely keep him out for an extended period of time.

***The nature and extent of the injury is something we will let the team and player address at a time and place of their choosing.

***We believe the injury will also lead to David Ugwoegbu getting some looks at inside linebacker, as well as Barnes and Morris.

***Just feel terrible for Kelly who missed most of last season while recovering from a torn ACL.

Quick Hitter | Bryce Foster
– Charlie S

Sooners elite 2021 OL target Bryce Foster (6’4.5″ 315) out of Katy, TX has confirmed what you guys already knew, and that is that he will be committing in December.

I know there had been some buzz out on the interwebs and other places about him committing throughout the summer, but Bryce has always been straight up and told us that he will be committing in December and we have made that clear to you all.

As we have mentioned, OU is in a very good spot with him and they were the last program to have him on campus. Should visits open up, Foster will get out to Oregon and probably take a few other visits, including getting back to Norman.

Right now, no news is good news on the Foster front in my opinion.

Fast Five | Fall Camp | Sourced | Quick-Hitters | 8-2-20
– Super K

Below you will find five sourced team notes from camp. If you would like to read the additional notes, please check the Donor Board.

***A name I’ve heard from a few sources is that of Jeremiah Criddell. Am told he’s made strides. Sounds like he’s competing for the nickel spot with Bookie though I imagine they will cross train Criddell, as well.

***Despite his progress, I got the sense that Bookie will still be tough to beat. I know last year it seemed like Grinch was doing anything he could to find a replacement for Bookie but I’m told Bookie has cleaned up his technique significantly and it seems Grinch is pleased…for now.

***Norwood is technically starting over Davis at the cornerback spot opposite Tre Brown. But, I don’t know how long that will last or if they will decide to give Norwood some reps inside. I think this is more about helping Norwood build his confidence back up.

***I’m told Davis has been extremely sticky in one on ones. WRs can’t shake him. So, again the defensive back position is going to be in flux.

***Mims is really the only freshman name that we continue to hear. More and more praise for him. Heard he had a big TD again today.

Sourced Notes

Senior wide receiver Theo Howard (6’0, 182) is running routes and going through workouts and I tip my cap to him for coming back from an Achilles tendon tear as quickly as he has. Sounds as if it still doesn’t look like he is running free and clear as there is still a little hesitation there to really turn it loose, but he is running routes and is going through all the drills and all the team drills and every day that injury will get looser and he will get his running form back.

Word is that Junior Charleston Rambo (6’1, 179) and sophomore Theo Wease (6’3, 200) are off to great starts in camp, and both have stepped up in leadership and production early. As K mentioned, it sounds as if Freshman Marvin Mims (5’11, 174) has picked up where he left off from spring and is a definite playmaker in the making.

At the Y big inside lot position sophomore Austin Stogner (6’6, 251) is a natural receiver with an excellent feel for the passing game. Sources indicate he’s having a great camp. His ability to find seams in the defense and read where the hole in the secondary are is uncanny. I feel this is going to be a great position because junior Brayden Willis (6’3, 235) is a multi-talented athlete who can go shift out there and give a different look to a defense. I can also see Obi Obialo (6’3, 210) working some here to give another different look for the secondary.

Update | Can Confirm Tanner Mordecai Injured
– Charlie S

Upon seeing reports on Twitter (from Carey Murdock of SoonerScoop) about Sooners Quarterback Tanner Mordecai suffering an injury, we have been able to confirm he sustained an injury.

Sources tell us Mordecai left practice under assistance and went to the locker room and did not return to the field.

We are not able to currently verify the exact nature of the injury at this time.

If Mordecai misses an extended amount of time, you would think Spencer Rattler would officially be named the Sooners starting QB in the near future

Will update if we come up with any more info.

Big 12 Moving to a 9+1 Schedule
– Charlie S

The Big 12 Conference is moving to a (9) game conference schedule with (1) nonconference game per team.

The Sooners still have Missouri State and Army on their schedule, but with Army being an away game, you would think they keep the Missouri State game.

Will update when OU updates their schedule.
