I spoke with White yesterday around 8:00 pm and he had mentioned that he was still uncertain about where he was heading but planned on speaking to his mother that night to discuss his decision and an announcement timeline.

He had a number of great things to say about Lincoln Riley and the BBQ which I’ll share later. For now though, I wanted to quickly note that it was pretty clear based, in part, on my conversation with White that going into the OU trip, he had decided on another school. As you know, he recently visited TAMU and UCLA. In fact while on the phone he actually said that he had even considered not taking the visit to OU but did so in order to keep his promise.

What also became clear is that the OU visit was a game changer. It made the decision much more challenging. The OU event was just far more than he expected it would be.

One of the more interesting things he shared with me about his new connection with coach Riley was just how accessible coach Riley is. “No disrespect to coach Stoops, he’s a great coach and a great guy, but back in the spring when I tried to call coach Stoops, I was told I had to set up a meeting with his secretary but with coach Riley, I called him on the way home from the barbecue and he picked up right away”.

– Team Note | Safety: The team practiced till late last night. I believe they ended practice around 10 pm. So, we haven’t heard much from the first day. However, I did hear that during walk-throughs in the morning, Will Johnson was actually positioned at free safety. I don’t know if that was just a temporary thing or if it means they’ve decided to go that route. As we’ve previously mentioned, Johnson did take some reps at safety during the spring and I have long suspected that they may look at him there just to ensure there is a veteran presence on the back end.
