Notebook | Coaches on the Road + New Visitor Name
– The Football Brainiacs

***While I was in Georgia last month, I spoke with 2020 OU CB offer, Jalen Huff (Buford). Huff wasn’t able to play that night due to a school transfer issue he was resolving.

He told me that he picked his OU offer back in the spring. Kerry Cooks stopped by his school and offered Huff shortly thereafter.

When I saw him last month he did mention wanting to visit but didn’t have a date set. This week he said, “I’m visiting OU soon. I’m just waiting on the K State game time to see if I can make it”.

***Jonathan Perkins tells us that coach Kish was by to visit him this week. Also, we were told to expect Kish to see 5-star 2020 LB, Justin Flowe. The Sooners are actually recruiting Flowe quite hard. Lincoln Riley is in on that recruitment. I’ll have notes up next week from my conversations with Flowe and others.

***Sooners also stopped in Fresno, CA to see 2020 WR Jalen McMillan and possibly 5-star running back Kendall Milton. McMillan appears to be the guy OU wants to land in this 2020 class at the wide receiver position. And, they have a very good chance of doing so.

***5-star 2020 running back, Zach Evans says that OU was by to see him as well.

***Woodi Washington tells me that coach Kerry Cooks was by to visit.

***I checked in with Sooners big DL commit, Derek Green, as well. Green said, “Coach Ruff is coming sometime but I haven’t bothered him these past few days with everything going on”.

Green was a guy that a number of SEC schools, including Georgia were trying hard to steal away from the Sooners. Coach Ruffin McNeil has a strong bond with Green. So, that’ll be even more important moving forward.

***Jaylan Knighton tells me that coach Boulware stopped by this week to see him, as well. Can’t confirm yet if anyone else was going to be at St. Thomas Aquinas. Spoke with the coach over there and he said he wasn’t sure just yet.

***Sooners top 2019 DE target, David Ugwoegbu is on a bye this weekend. I checked in with a coach over at his high school to see if OU is going to be stopping by. He said, “they were supposed to come to practice Thursday, but had some flight issues”.

Coach added OU rescheduled to be by Friday morning and I heard back from David, he said OU did stop by.

David says he’s still set to visit for the Kansas game.

***Coach Gundy was in Temple (TX) to see 2020 WR Quentin Johnston. Johnston is a big wide receiver who holds some early offers from the likes of Duke, TCU and Virginia Tech. (More on Quentin Below)

*** Coach over at Coffeyville CC tells me that OU stopped by earlier this week to see offensive tackle, Finley Felix.

I asked the coach when Finley is set to decide on a school. Coach responded by saying, “it’s already done”.

No word yet on when he will make his decision public.

Sooners Offer 2020 WR Quentin Johnston
– Charlie S

– The Sooners have extended an offer to 2020 wide receiver Quentin Johnston out of Temple, Texas.

Johnston is a 6’4″ 180 lb junior who currently holds offers from Virginia Tech, TCU, and Duke among others.

I was able to briefly catch up with Quentin and needless to say he was very excited about the OU offer.

– I asked him how the offer went down.

He said “Yeah, Coach Gundy called me about a week and a half ago and was getting to know me. Then he came to watch me at our recent game!” He added, “Then, the next day, the head coach, Coach Riley, called to offer me”.

I asked if he has been to Norman or if he was making plans to take a trip and he said, “I am planning on getting up there now!”

Not a lot of film on him, but he is obviously a big-bodied receiver who would fit nicely in the slot like Calcaterra or on the outside like these big wideouts that OU has been facing every week lately it seems.

I will have more on Johnston in the near future.

Chris Steele | Cali Update
– Super K

Friday night’s Mater Dei vs. St. John Bosco game was canceled due to weather. However, it was rescheduled for Saturday.

Before we left I was able to speak with a few people including 4-star DB, Chris Steele.

I asked Steele if the Mike Stoops departure would affect him, “no, not really. He didn’t recruit me and I know they’re going to get someone good”.

He went on to talk about where his interest in OU stems from, “part of it of course Bookie. You know he’s my older brother. And part of it is I feel like I can go in there and play early and that’s something Bookie and I talk about”.

Chris was pretty candid about what will happen if he decides against going to USC, “if I don’t stay (with USC) it’s going to end up being Oklahoma or maybe Florida. But if I go out of state it’s going to be one of those schools”.

Steele said he still hasn’t worked out the travel arrangements for the Bedlam game but is hoping it can work out.

OU is going to have to just continue to work on this one and see how things play out with USC.
