Crazy Weekend | Sooners on the Rise: After the crazy weekend we just saw, the Sooners came in at number eight in the coaches poll and figure to be someone around there in in this weekend playoff committee rankings.

The Sooners still need quite a bit of help to get back in that top four.

ACC: Houston can do the Sooners a big favor by beating Louisville this Thursday. Do that, it’s unlikely the ACC ends up with any more than one team in the CFP.

SEC: Alabama will be the team out of the SEC.

PAC 12: The Sooners need Washington to drop another game. It is possible. Washington still has to play ASU, Washington State and in the PAC 12 championship game. If Washington loses another, I just don’t think the CFP will put a two-loss PAC 12 team in over the Sooners. There is too much talk about Mayfield, Mixon and Westbrook.

Big 10: Sooners are in a bit of a pickle when it comes to the Big 10. On one hand, they need Ohio State to beat Michigan in my opinion. If I am a playoff committee member and I’m looking at a two-loss Ohio State team and a two-loss OU team, I don’t care how much improvement there may have been or whether they won their conference, I can’t put a team in that got beat by a significant margin by the other team at home.

If Ohio State beats Michigan, I think it’s safe to assume Michigan drops behind OU. However, if Penn State wins out and Ohio State beats Michigan then Penn State ends up in the Big 10 championship against perhaps, Wisconsin in which case one of those teams could get he bid along with Ohio State.

Again, a lot needs to happen and the Sooners have to keep winning but these last few weeks are going to be a lot more fun than I would’ve guessed they would be back when the Sooners were sitting at 1 and 2. – (Super K)

Latavious Brini: 2017 Miami area DB, Latavious Brini took an official visit to Oklahoma this past weekend.

I plan on catching up with Brini more extensively this weekend but we did exchange a few messages in which Brini said the trip exceeded his expectations and he went into the trip expecting a lot. The Sooners biggest threat for Brini, I’m told, is Miami. Miami has proximity to home and Brini is friends with guys like former OU commit, Trajan Bandy. But my initial sense is that the advantages OU has over Miami, like crowds, facilities, etc., made an impression.

I hope to have more on Brini’s trip and a timeline for a decision later this week. – (Super K)

Hunter Echols: Another top player the Sooners hosted this weekend was USC DE commit, Hunter Echols (Los Angeles, CA). Echols didn’t say much given his status as a USC commit but it was pretty obvious from our exchange that OU made an impression. He offered no comment when I asked him if the Sooners made him rethink his USC commitment.

He say that the trip was better than expected and said he took the visit with his mother and, “she loved it”. You’ll recall, Echols mother used to live in Oklahoma so he has previous ties to the state. – (Super K)
