TJ Pledger: As you all know by now, Sooners RB commit, TJ Pledger visited Nebraska this past weekend. While things did appear to be shaky prior to the visit, Pledger’s family seemed to remained  firmly in OU’s corner.

I spoke with a source close to Pledger who tells me that things seem to have settled and it’s this particular source’s belief that TJ is going to stick with the Sooners. – (Super K)

– Treveon Johnson: The Sooners picked up another commitment last night from a 2018 Brenham (TX) wide receiver.

Johnson, as most know, took a visit to Oklahoma last Tuesday. Before leaving, he told Sooner head coach Lincoln Riley and outside WR coach Dennis Simmons that he was committed and planned on announcing on June 25th. Johnson does not boast a ton of offers, but he is a guy that is deserving of many more than he holds. It doesn’t take long, when watching his film, to see what was so appealing to the Sooners staff. Johnson has really good straight-line speed; he also has some strong hands and above average body control.

If you’re wondering what Oklahoma gets in Treveon Johnson, you’re getting a confident, long, versatile receiver. At 6’2″, Johnson has the height to be primarily outside. It’s his feet and speed that make him versatile enough to play the slot. Johnson has spoken quite a bit about Oklahoma wanting to use him like they did 2016 Bilitnekof winning wide receiver, Dede Westbrook. Though Westbrook wasn’t used in the slot much, Westbrook doesn’t have the hips or agility that Johnson possess. Johnson, to me, is more in line of a Cedee Lamb – guys with their length don’t usually have the feet those two have. I am a firm believer in Johnson. His frame will allow him to fill out and become even more physical than he already is right now. It’s just a great evaluation by Dennis Simmons here; also, Coach Simmons might know a thing or two, having coached two Bilitnekof Award winners. Good get with a very high ceiling by Oklahoma. – (Brandon)

More on Treveon: Just wanted to chime in and add a few quick notes on Treveon Johnson.

1. He is a fantastic young man. Had a chance to spend some time with him when we shot the video and I was impressed. He walks that line of confidence and humility that you need to be a great football player and a great student of the game. He’s really comfortable in his own skin. And he strikes me as a young man with the maturity to maximize his immense talent at the next level.

2. For all that you’ve seen on Treveon, expect to see a lot more. Johnson apparently played last season injured. In fact he tells me he had hip surgery this past spring and is finally at 100%.

3. I tend to prefer the 100m sprinter type wide receivers with a lot of flexibility and good spring in their step. The really big wide receivers just tend to all too often be a little stiff for my taste. And the smaller receivers are obviously disadvantaged by lack of size. Treveon has that look of a classic Baylor (under Briles) WR, 6’1 (Treveon is prob a shade over 6’1), long , quick and loose. Take a look at Treveon’s length in the photo below. Also, Johnson is very aggressive. Love when a wide receiver plays defense and Treveon plays defense well. You need guys that can win the ball in the air. The simple reality is that in college you aren’t typically going to just blow by guys. Players have to be able to make competitive catches. – (Super K)

WR recruiting: There are only two spots left for Oklahoma, at the wide receiver spot, for 2018. Oklahoma could push for a fifth spot, depending on the guy trying to commit, obviously. It’s basically a numbers game, and Oklahoma would like to get a commitment from Jaylon Robinson and Jaqualyn Crawford soon, if they could. With Oklahoma holding commitments from Kundarrius Taylor and Johnson already, Riley, Simmons and Gundy are pushing to close out. Oklahoma is in a good spot for Robinson, Crawford, and Bryson Jackson. At this point, it becomes a first come, first serve type of deal. Jaylen Waddle is a take no matter what. – (Brandon)

Jaylon Robinson: In case you missed it, Sooners wide receiver target, Jaylon Robinson (Fort Worth, TX) is set to announce his decision later today…

Jaylen Waddle: I spent a good amount of time around Jaylen Waddle during the Pylon 7v7 Nationals this past weekend. Waddle talked quite a bit about his interest in OU, but, true to Waddle form, he didn’t tip his hand in any direction. He did tell me that Houston Fast Squad (Waddle’s 7v7 team) is set to visit Oklahoma sometime in July, and Waddle says he will come up then. This will be Waddle’s second time to Norman, the first was last summer when he made his way to OU for camp.

As I mentioned above, it doesn’t matter who OU has committed, they will find a roster spot for Waddle. You don’t turn down players of that caliber….ever. Seeing him live only confirms what us and many others have been saying about Waddle. He is a special athlete with a scorers mindset.

Waddle says that coaches Riley, Gundy, and Simmons are in constant in contact with him. But, there is still a ways to go in this one. At this point it’s really difficult to try and predict where Waddle ends up. At one time he seemed to be a heavy Texas lean, even telling K that they were his leader. He has since backed off of that stance.

Waddle will continue to take visits. He is expected to make a return trip to Oregon as well later this summer. Again, regardless of what happens with other potential commits, Oklahoma is going to continue to pursue the star slot receiver. – (Brandon)
