Weekend Recruiting Updates
– Super K

***As you know, Sooners hosted 2020 OT, Seth MClaughlin (Buford, GA) this weekend. This was Seth’s third visit.

I’ve only exchanged a few texts with Seth so far but I have spoken to some people about his recruitment and as you know by now, he decided not to pull the trigger to OU.

I’m told he’d still like to take some additional trips but the Sooners remain his leader.

I’ll be traveling out west to see a few players this week but hopefully, we can bring you a fuller update on McLaughlin once I get back in town.

***I also exchanged some text messages with 2021 DE/DT, Tunmise Adeleye. I’m scheduled to speak with him later this evening but among the text messages we exchanged, he said the following regarding the visit…

”It was amazing man, I don’t know how to describe it”

***I spoke with Sooners 2020 LB target and weekend visitor, Brennon Scott (Bishop Dunne).

I’ll have my full write up on him, shortly.

But a quick note on him: Very very high priority, it seems, for the Sooners. Before this visit, Scott said he’d already been visited at his school by Lincoln Riley once and both coach Grinch and coach Odom twice.

Cut on his film and you can see why he’s a high priority target, he’s exactly what Oklahoma is looking for in that Rush/Jack position. Scott told me that is the position they are recruiting him to play.

Five Star 2020 Running Back Visiting This Weekend
– Charlie S

Some pretty significant news here…

Chatted briefly with five star running back Chris Tyree (Chester, VA) and he let me know that he will be visiting Norman this weekend, February 2nd – 3rd, for an unofficial visit.

Tyree had let me know that Coach Beamer had dropped by multiple times to see him and last week, he stopped by again and this time Head Coach Lincoln Riley accompanied him.

I will have more on Tyree later, but I just wanted to get that news out to you.

Fast Five: Team Notes | Sourced | Walk-Thru & 7v7
– Super K

Below, you will find the return of our ‘Fast Five’ feature.

In this feature we bring you five sourced notes, in this case ‘Team Notes’. If you would like to read the rest of the notes, please click the Donor Link below!

As I mentioned, the Sooners had their first walk-thru on Friday followed by their first player led 7v7 session on Saturday morning. A few things we’ve been able to find out.

***Was told cornerback pre-snap alignments are…wait for it…press. Obviously don’t know yet what kind of techniques they’ll be using (nor would I report on things of that level of detail anyway). But for those of us who have been wishing OU would show pre-snap press looks more, it sounds like you’ll get that.

***Heard more about the defense being really simple. Have already noted that and Cody Alexander will still have more breakdowns from Grinch’s Washington State film.

***As we expected, single gap. No more of that, catch a block and then primary/secondary gap stuff. You’re gap is set pre-snap. If you’re at a ghost 9 you may long stick to a 3 and obviously you’ll know it before the ball is snapped. Again, Cody may show some of this stuff from WSU film.

***I already noted the first team folks in a post last week. For a refresher check that here. But was told that there is no entitlement. This is where guys are starting but that doesn’t mean they’ll stay there or even stay in that position. An example obviously is in the case of Bookie who was given the starting spot almost as soon as he got on campus last year. He’s now behind Tre Norwood at the nickel. Though I’ll tell you that in my opinion, I suspect Bookie wins that nickel spot in this defense because of instincts. And I’d guess Norwood gets moved back to cornerback. But just a guess.

***Not much depth at cornerback. It’s Brown and Motley with Miguel Edwards rotating in.
