– Jacob Phillips: In checking with sources this is the latest we’ve heard on Phillips…
The Sooners planned to do an in-home visit later this week with Phillips. The staff was able to connect with Phillips after his visit to Baton Rouge and he wants them to come as planned which sounds like good news.
Probably the best news was that the staff was able to connect with Phillips’ father. We are told that conversation went well. Again, the Sooners remain optimistic but certainly not with the same degree of confidence as there was last week.
Phillips was in touch with the OU coaches and members of the OU recruiting class throughout the weekend.
One source on the LSU side of this continues to tell us that the LSU staff is, “confident in flipping him”. But again, Oklahoma feels good as well and so long as the communication remains open, especially between OU and Phillips’ father, there is certainly reason to be optimistic. – (Brandon)
– Tyreece Lott: 2017 TCU DE/DT commit, Treece Lott (Ardmore, OK) took an official visit to Oklahoma this past weekend. It went well.
I spoke with Lott last night and he said playing in-state was a big draw, “I’m in my home state and there’s a lot of support for the program around here”. Lott said that Oklahoma’s message to him was, “stay home and play for your state and your family and in your home-state”. It’s pretty clear that message resonated with Lott.
Lott says in addition to the attraction of playing in his home-state, the Sooners are “a winning program…they win big and they have a plan for me and how I’ll fit into their front”. Oklahoma sees Lott as a B-gap player playing the 4i in Oklahoma’s 30 front or a 3 technique in the 4-man front.
The front change is helping Oklahoma. I spoke with a coach on Ardmore’s staff who mentioned, “everyone I talked to used that 3-4 against OU”.
Lott says he will make his final announcement this Friday. Things are looking very good for Oklahoma to keep the big man in the state. – (Super K)
