Sunday Visitor Updates
– Charlie S
*** Spoke to 2020 OL Turner Corcoran this morning as they make their way back home to Kansas after spending last night in Guthrie, OK.
The Corcoran’s once again enjoyed their time in Norman and the Sooners remain firmly in the race for his commitment. As for the visit itself, getting to meet and spend some time with former Sooner Orlando Brown was huge for Turner. Brown spoke about the transition from HS to college and college to the NFL and how well he was prepared for it after playing for Coach B. He also enjoyed getting to hang out with Kyler Murray as it seems both Brown and Murray spent a lot of time with the recruits.
I’ll have a full write up on Corcoran later this week, but I did want to note that he is really down to five schools at this point: OU, Ohio State, Nebraska, Kansas, and Kansas State. The way I wrote those schools out is how I feel they currently rank in terms of hierarchy for Turner.
He plans on getting back to OU for a spring practice, visiting Nebraska, KU, and KSU for a practice as well and attending the Ohio State spring game on April 13th. (He was actually a little upset that there are so many spring games on the same date). Those will all be unofficial visits.
*** As you know 2020 DB and Sooner legacy Avery Helm made it into Norman this weekend for an unofficial visit. There was talk of a possible offer, however, no offer has been made to this point and it sounds like the Sooners would like to further evaluate him in the spring.
*** 2020 surprise visitor Demon Clowney, the defensive end out of Washington, DC, made his way to Norman for an unofficial visit and while he held an offer from the old defensive staff at OU, the new staff will look to get out to see him in the spring for further evaluation.
*** One visitor who has already left is 2020 OL Akinola Ogunbiyi, and most of his talk with K was off the record and will remain so because of his commitment with Texas A&M. However, back in the summer following the BBQ K reported that he felt there was a very real chance the Sooners could flip the big man down the road and coming out of this junior day, that thought has only intensified as K feels comfortable in saying that he feels OU is either tied at the top with A&M or may, in fact, be a bit out front.
K feels the Sooners just need to keep working on this one. Obviously, Aki can get to College Station much easier than Norman, so that could play a factor, but we believe he will be back at OU in the very near future and the Sooners are in a good spot in regards to landing the cousin of former NBA star Hakeem Olajuwon.
For additional Junior Day updates, we just posted some this morning over on the Donor Board… https://donors.thefootballbrainiacs.com/notebook-kendall-milton-covington-huntley-akinola-mims/
TFB Talking Point | Visit Game…OU Turning It Up?
– Charlie S
We often get asked about the Sooners visit ‘game’.
“Why doesn’t OU do full uniform pictures like the other schools?”
“Why does OU seem to not hype the kids up when they are on visits?”
“Is OU hurting themselves by not doing the picture game with the recruits?”
Let me preface this with one note: Not once have I heard a recruit complain that they didn’t get any full uniform pictures while at OU. The subject has never really even been addressed.
However, I get it. I understand the sentiment that other schools seem to get a lot of mileage out of the photo-shoots.
OU has upped their game in the last few years, but they have yet to go full uniform.
While they don’t do the uniform thing, as we have been told it is too time consuming and they would rather focus on other things during the visit, they have done a better job with photo-shoots as a whole.
With that being said, new commit Mikey Henderson sent out a tweet earlier this week which included the picture below and it really caught my eye…

The reason that the picture caught my eye was not the ‘Play like a champion’ sign (although that is very cool)…not the jersey itself, as it is common for recruits to put on a jersey with their preferred number on it…
But the fact the jersey appears to have his last name on it…that is some next level stuff.
It will be interesting to see if this picture becomes a staple for OU as I think it adds a really cool touch to the visit.
Serves two purposes…keeps OU on their timeline for the visit and gives the kids a very personalized memento from their time in Norman.
I’ll allow it.
