Quick Hitter | Official Visit Set for Jacoby Jones + Insider Note
– Charlie S
– Touched base with Butler C.C. JUCO DE and Sooners offer Jacoby Jones this morning and he confirmed that he will be taking his official visit to Norman for the FAU game on September 1st.

Jones visited Norman for the ChampU BBQ and received his offer from the Sooners soon after he left campus.
As Super K reported previously, the Sooners are in a very good spot with the defensive end and as of right now it appears to be a Red River battle as Texas is still in play.
I asked him if he had set a date for an official visit to Austin and he let me know that has not yet finalized a date, but they are throwing around a November time frame for that visit.

Fall Camp Notes | August 17th | James Hales Mailbag
– The Football Brainiacs
James Hale has been a fixture on the Sooner beat for over 30 years. It is our pleasure to welcome him as a guest contributor for TFB as fall camp ramps up. James has deep ties to the Sooner football program and he will be providing us with sourced updates from fall camp as we continually seek to provide you with as much information as possible on your Sooners.
You can also catch James Hale’s show “Total Sports” on Monday – Friday 11 am to 2 pm on 99.3 FM, SportsTalk 1400AM or statewide on sportstalk1400.com
James’ Mailbag:
In James’ Tuesday report, we were asked about Tramonda Moore and the junior has had a very uneven camp. He has been banged up and has missed at least half the camp up to this point. That has been a disappointment for sure for Coach Bill Bedenbaugh and Coach Riley but they know he is very talented and he can redshirt this year with two left to play. Moore will probably fit into that four-game redshirt category as they will make sure that he gets his feet wet this year.
There is no rush to get Moore ready because of the outstanding tackle play of juniors Bobby Evans and Cody Ford. Plus senior Quinn Mittermeier is an outstanding technician and now at 294 pounds, he is better suited to win battles at the point of attack. The coaches also like sophomore Erik Swenson who has grown up in the program now at 6’5, 315. Mittermeier can play both, but he actually works more at the right tackle spot and Swenson at the left.
Redshirt freshman Adrian Ealy is still a work in progress but he is has improved his technique and footwork from the spring. Freshman Brey Walker and Darrell Simpson have been as good as advertised and the future is bright at offensive tackle for OU. Sophomore David Swaby, all 6’9, 320 pounds of him, is another work in progress that will redshirt this year, but he is very athletic and Coach Bedenbaugh feels he is s diamond in the rough.

He added 58 yards and another touchdown on the ground on five carries.

Sourced Scrimmage Quick-Hitters | Pick Six
– The Football Brainiacs
***Addison Gumbs appears locked into the starting role at Jack, at least for the season opener. He was the starter there today, also told Motley was stand out on the defensive side of the ball.
Interestingly, told that Creed Humphrey got the start at center but Alvarez split reps. I’ll check to confirm that with a second source. – (Super K)
***Sounds like there weren’t a ton of big offensive plays but the offense was consistent and able to move the ball. Top plays I’m told were from Calcaterra who apparently had a crazy one-handed grab. Also told Basquine was responsible for quite a few plays. – (Super K)
***Confirmed that Buzzy did indeed get the start over Caleb Kelley. Was told Caleb is still getting some things ironed out in terms of footwork and ability to take on blocks. But source added, still believes Kelley gets the start but said can’t call it yet because Buzzy has played well. – (Super K)
***Told neither quarterback played well enough to generate enough big plays against a good defense. I was told that if you have to give the edge to one of them then it goes to Austin Kendall over junior Kyler Murray because Kendall was more patient today, didn’t try to force things, took care of the football and took what the defense gave him. Murray hung in the pocket too long and scrambled to try to buy time downfield and then would misfire on a throw or take a sack and he had trouble holding onto the football today. – (James Hale)
Super K: As I mentioned above, my second source said similar to what James said in his note above. But my initial source still believes Kyler had the better day because of his ability to take off that was nullified by the touch rule.
***In the secondary Super K pointed out some of the secondary moves. Robert Barnes had a good day at free safety. He is tall and rangy and was really flying around today. As we said, Jordan Parker got most of the reps at SS because Bookie was held out but make no mistake they are holding the SS position for Bookie. – (James Hale)
***Calcaterra and Miller did well today catching the ball but the secondary hounded them all day. Great day for the corners and it looks like OU has three very good corners in starters Motely, Norwood, and super sub – Tre Brown. They, along with Broiles and Barnes challenged receivers all day. – (James Hale)
