Open Post | Monday, April 3rd

Scott Pagano: This past weekend the Sooners hosted Clemson graduate DT transfer, Scott Pagano. Per Ryan Bartow of 247sports.com, Pagano has already visited Notre Dame (March 3rd – 5th). He is expected to visit Oregon this upcoming weekend (April 7th).

We haven’t heard much on Pagano but a source close to Pagano did say that he loved his visit to OU this weekend and that it seemed to exceed his expectations. The Sooners could certainly use the help on the defensive line. More on that below… – (Super K)

Gaelin Elmore: Back on March 23rd, Minnesota DE/DT, Gaelin Elmore announced that he will be a graduate transfer this upcoming season.

Elmore announced yesterday that he will visit OU this upcoming weekend…

Elmore tells us that he plans on taking all five of his official visits before making a decision. Elmore said that the Sooner staff has let him know they have a need on the defensive line. He also added, “OU is a great program…definitely has good players. They (OU staff) think I can help them accomplish their goals”.

The visit to Norman will be Elmore’s first official visit. He said he will also “for sure” visit West Virginia and South Carolina.

Elmore has spent time at both DE and DT. He’s a big defensive linemen listed at 6’6 275 lbs so really seems like a good fit for the Sooners multiple front. – (Super K)

Team Note | Defensive Line: I spoke to a source about how the Sooners defense has looked, especially in the scrimmage on Saturday. Keep in mind they were without Obo and Parker (they’re out all spring) and they were also without Kahlil Haughton who is competing with Will Sunderland for the open safety spot.

There is a lot of optimism about the potential the Sooners have at the LB and DB positions. And I think there is still optimism about what the defensive line can be but right now, as one source put it, “there is no dominant guy on the dline. They don’t have that guy that takes on two (offensive linemen) and can split a double team. The defense is going to be better because of the linebacker play but if they get a couple of those (defensive) line guys to step up it’ll help”.

This team really has a lot of potential at every position group but if there is one group that could really use that little boost it would be the defensive line. Pagano or Elmore could provide that. Having said that, there definitely are pieces to work with when you look at guys like Gallimore, Lampkin, etc. and I’d be mildly surprised if one of these young guys doesn’t have a light come on sometime between now and next season. – (Super K)

Team Note | Creed Humphrey: We mentioned in winter workouts that the early word on Creed Humphrey is he was looking very good. That praise has only continued into the spring. Multiple sources have raved about Humphrey. We are told the OU staff is really impressed with Creed.

One source said about Humphrey, “he’s a man among boys. Don’t be surprised if he eventually unseats Wren”.

Whether Humphrey can take Wren’s spot our not remains to be seen but if he’s getting that kind of praise this early in the game, the Sooners are very secure at that center position. – (Super K)

Darrell Simpson: As we’ve previously reported, the Sooners have long been the team to beat for 2018 OT, Darell Simpson (Justin, TX).

I was told by a source close to Simpson over the weekend that Simpson plans to announce a decision, “soon”. I’m hoping to catch up with Simpson this week to find out just how soon that could be. – (Super K)
