– More on Rising: I was able to speak to a few more people and connect with Rising’s father a second time regarding Cameron Rising’s flip to Texas.
The more I spoke with Rising’s father on Sunday the more I got the strong sense that of all the factors that played into Cameron’s decision, and there were many, his connection to Tom Herman may have been the biggest one. Rising obviously had a great connection with coach Lincoln Riley but Tom Herman, as a young head coach was able to connect with Rising and the fact that Herman is the head coach gave Texas an advantage.
The idea that the depth chart was the end all doesn’t feel accurate to me. In fact Rising’s father and I spoke about the fact that Texas will likely have a starter this upcoming year who will be a true sophomore who doesn’t project to leave early. – (Super K)
– Casey Thompson: I am told that the staff stayed in touch with Casey Thompson periodically even while Rising was committed. I am also told that Oregon is a school to watch for Thompson. I’ll try to have more on whether OU will go full out to flip Thompson but I do not expect him to stick with Texas. – (Super K)
– Arjei Henderson Decommits: As many of you know by now 2019 WR, Arjei Henderson (Richmond, TX) decommitted from Oklahoma last night.
I spoke with a source who is very familiar with Henderson’s recruitment and while the timing feels like it had something to do with Oklahoma, it didn’t. Simply put, Arjei has picked up so many offers since his commitment to OU that he’d like to go through the process. As the source put it, “he just committed too early. He still likes OU but he hasn’t had a chance to look at all of his options because he didn’t have those options when he committed”. – (Super K)
– Theo Wease: I am told that OU’s 2019 WR commit, Theo Wease, could be next to decommit and it may happen as early as this evening.
Again, if this were to happen it would be less about anything OU is or isn’t doing and more about a young person who committed to a school before all the options were on the table. – (Super K)
– Reese More: Also, in case you missed it, 2018 OT/TE, Reese Moore (Seminole, TX) committed to Texas over OU and TCU this past weekend.
Moore built a very strong relationship with Cameron Rising. They visited OU and the Texas spring games together and I’m told they bonded quite a bit. – (Super K)
– Recruiting in General: I’m going to try to formulate my general thoughts on OU’s current recruiting efforts but I think it’s important to note that while the last couple weeks haven’t been great for OU, the happenings are not all occurring for the same reasons.
There are a number of story lines but one that isn’t talked about much that is highly notable to me is the fact that outside of Darrell Simpson, OU does not appear to lead for any of the top prospects in Texas.
Again, more on this later… – (Super K)
– Commit Coming: To try and end on a good note here, I still the Sooners to land a commitment sometime this week. – (Super K)
