– Amani Bledsoe: As many of you know by now, Amani Bledsoe has been suspended indefinitely. Tom Keegan of the Lawrence Journal-World is reporting that the NCAA suspended Bledsoe for failing an NCAA performance enhancing drug test.
Stoops would not confirm the report when asked about it in his Monday presser, reiterating Bledsoe was suspended for a “violation of team policy”.
I have been informed by sources close to Bledsoe that he was indeed suspended for the use of PEDs. I was told that Bledsoe used a supplement without running it through compliance. Multiple sources said that Bledsoe is an excellent young man and the belief is, without question, that Bledsoe’s mistake was unintentional. – (Super K)
– Kansas or Not: Sooners coming off of the worst defensive game in the history of Oklahoma football needed something… anything…to get their confidence back. Along came Kansas, to Norman, a week later. Yes, this Kansas team was 1-6 entering the game on Saturday, but we all know they took OSU and TCU down to the wire in weeks leading up to game versus Oklahoma. So, this wasn’t Kansas from last year. This was a Kansas team that Coach David Beatty has been improving since he arrived when the cupboard was bare. Mike Stoops and the Sooners defense needed a confidence boost. OU got just that, and it might not have come at a better time with Oklahoma set to play after just five days of rest followed by the final stretch of what will be their most challenging Big 12 games.
I’m not necessarily saying Oklahoma has found their 2015 defense. All I am saying is that OU needed some confidence after Texas Tech. Jordan Evans needed an INT return after the rough year he has had so far. Jordan Thomas needed to intercept a pass that changed the complexion of the ball when it was tied 7-3 and Kansas had an opportunity to score after getting good field position. The defense came up big.
Regardless who you play, a play on the ball is a play on the ball. A tackle in space is a tackle in space. Oklahoma did things better this past weekend irrespective of the opponent. They were, hopefully, reminded that they are capable of playing sound defense. The skepticism due to the quality of the opponent is understandable and perhaps even warranted but at the very least we can hope that the Sooners defense is a more confident group than they were a week ago. – (Brandon)
We’ll have recruiting notes from this past weekend up tomorrow…
